I saw a thread here the other day that gave rough details regarding custom ROM creation... Anyone know where that thread is?
I would like to tinker with a ROM file and try to load it up, but I can't find the thread that describes the process...
Anyone know where that is?
Home Cooked Roms:

Be careful if you futz-up your bootloader then you've got a nice brick.
As long as you're already on a 2.x Rom I'd just make Roms without the bootloader (IPL/SPL) that way if you goof you can just flash an official Rom.
That's the one my man!
Thanks for the warning. Don't worry - I will research this fully before I actually try to load anything on my phone. I really want to create my own Extended ROM more than anything.
Thanks a lot for the link!!!

You can create a partial Rom which only has the extended Rom, Splash Screens or Radio Rom. See these threads were some of us have done exactly that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=52952
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=52768
If you don't flash the OS Rom then the Phone won't do a hard reset automatically so you can just replace your extended Rom and not HAVE to reset!
It looks like I've got some reading to do...
Thanks a lot!

Hi,
I would like to upgrade the rom on my Qtek 9100 as getting a hermes seems like a waste of time(not enough new developments) Can anyone reccommend a good rom and provide a link to it? - I cant find farias rom anywhere. I have the earliest revision of radio and os rom avail as I got my 9100 last December.
Please help as I think upgrading ROM would be much preferable to upgrading phone.
P.s do the new roms fix the screen calibration and alarm wakeup problems
Many Thanks,

It is highly unlikely that you will find Farias ROM as he has removed it from the general population. You need to read for about a week or two and after that you may be ready to upgrade your phone. I don't know if the new ROMs fix the problems you are talking about because I never had those problems to begin with.
Good Luck,

Do you have the info on what was in Farias ROM?
I don't want the ROM, but I'd like to see what he was doing. It's a shame that someone had to be an arse and ruin for other people, but then again, it's as a shame that people let people get to them over the interweb.

The best way to find out what his ROM had in it is to go to the first post in his thread and find the link that will show you his first post in the very first thread about this whole thing. He talks in detail about what the ROM contains.

It seems screen calibration is a hardware problem...
I had got this, was forced to visit service center (to replace the whole display). New screen is fine

Cheers, I have the knowledge to update my rom now, I just need to know a suitiable one with the minimum of hassle and problems with good apps already installed e.t.c. the rom I have now is fully unlocked and ext rom visibe e.t.c. but it is version 1.1.7.5 I hear there is a great speed dufference in the later revisions - is this correct?

You might want to take a look at what Molski has to offer. He has a fairly clean ROM that is quite stable.

Check the wiki...all your questions are already answered there
Edit : - got beaten to the punch
Please read the WIKI and all the stickies, they will guide you through the steps for installing hard SPL, unlocking and upgrading your device.
As for choosing which ROM to upgrade to, that will be personal choice for you. Again, read the threads on your selected ROMs and make your final choice from that. Or better yet, flash one and use it for a few days, then flash the other and see which one works best for you.
OMG Jimmy is around and I feel like this thread will be closed.
Jimmy hardly lets me have fun anymore. He's all serious now with his MOD rights.
Whad up Jimbo
This is very strange I know - but I have flashed a few roms recently to find the one I liked the best and now I cant remember which one I ended up with !

You don't have "ROM version"?? It's the first value in that page
sorry - I am not being clear - my bad
what I want is to know if it is your cooked ROM package, panosha's etc
I know that I could probably find it by going through the first part of the flash procedure and stop when it tells me what is being replace ? But is there a simpler and less dangerous way
cheers
Jim (and thanks for sticking with me on this

You can try that, it's not so dangerous if you don't go over there. But for example I've not setted anything for those informations, and in this case it will show only "1.00".
did you try to do a soft-reset and check the booting screens? some of the cooks put some starting images which let you know the ROM version number/type etc.
think i've found it by checking features in the threads for each of the roms on which features, roms etc and have found which one it is by comparing back to mine
A nice feature I saw from one of the cooked roms was that it filled in the ExtRom description so that the Device settings would show that - maybe a nice way for any cook to document their rom on a PDA ?
cheers - and thanks all for the help - appreciated
Jim

You can't go wrong flashing one of the newer 1.56-based roms out now. If you read the guide in my signature you can't go wrong
As cRaCKwHoRe said you can't go wrong with one of the newer 1.56 roms based on either WM6.1 or WM6.5
As for which is better, your opening a whole can of worms there mate. This has been asked before and closed done just as often by Mod's
There is no best rom, its user dependant on what you as the user is looking for as they're lite roms, heavy roms, roms built for speed etc etc etc
Best advice I can offer is to go into each rom thread, read up on each and if you like the look of one of them, try it out. If your not happy, try another.
I've flashed countless rom's (60+) and I'm still not 100% happy.
Each rom thread should provide installation guides or direct you to them, though you couldn't go wrong with cRaCKwHoRe's
I'm personally testing Duttys V3.0 which isn't released yet, but should be in the next few days. Could be worth waiting for, though I'd maybe read up on others and try flashing to get accustomed to the process
Happy searching and I hope you find the right rom for you!!
Hi all!
I just bought a Touch pro 2 from a user that came with an old Energy rom
I allready checked many tuturials and videos but by fear its my first time flashing a rom into a pda.
Since it came with the old energy rom it is HardSpl allready.
My question is: Do i just need to run task29 to wipe out old rom and install the Energy.RHODIUM.21914.Sense2.5. and its all done or do i need any further proccedure?
sorry about asking but im just affraid to brake it, its so AWASOME this Phone!
cheers!
This Thread Should Answer Your ?'s http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
That's pretty much it. Task29, then run the ROM file of your choice (either over the SD card or over Active Sync). Some suggest to hard reset after your new ROM boots up. Just to make sure you start from a blank slate I guess? Although Task29 should more than take care of this.
After that, just load your programs of choice, sync your contacts, etc.
Its a little intimidating to flash for the first time. But once you've done it, you'll realize how easy it actually is. Just make sure your phone is charged up enough on each step, and don't mess with the phone or your desktop computer while you flash (and don't let it go to sleep or screensaver), and you'll be fine.

I did saw that post like many others in here allready including videos ...but the fear to do something wrong is always present thats why i wanted to listen a direct voice tolding me thatt that is right!
For example in the task29 topic it says : connect via Activesinc, Run task29 (there is no task29.exe file there, just RomupdateUtility. is this one we must run ?
After that its just need to get into bootscreen and flash the new rom by the PC?
cheers

That's correct, whether you flash Task29, a custom ROM, or a new radio, they all utilize the same RUU interface.
Ok, i will give it a try and hope everything run ok
Very appreciate for your help redpoint73, thanks a lot
cheers
thanks a lot again redpoint 73 , it all went good and the rom is now up and running and im loving its smooth and steady

welcome to the club. i've gone through so many flashe's always looking for something faster, better or anything worth the improvements. i think i have finally found what i've been looking for. energyrom reference serie's. with the overclock set at 749mhz its awesome try it. well try overclock at 729 and then see how it takes it before u step up to 749. let me know what u think.

Your very welcome. Easy, right? It quickly goes from something you're scared of, to an addiction!
Also, be sure to charge your battery to 100%, then let it drain to 0%, and do this once or twice to get the battery meter calibrated. Lots of people will flash a new ROM and freak out at the battery readings, thinking their battery life is all screwed up. When in reality, its just that they haven't given the battery meter a chance to get calibrated accurately.
which one is the energyrom reference series
i currently have a energy rom installed i just dont know if my device is over clocked
it just seems really slow

You'd be best off asking questions about EnergyROM in the EnergyROM thread
As for overclocking, if you haven't installed specific overclocking tools, or a ROM that includes overclocking (Energy's doesn't) then you don't have overclocking.
Op please read sticky before posting and nearly all ROM threads have a guide regards flashing.
Not ROM Development thread closed.
