I just received my Cingular 8125 this week and have run into some issues that I need to resolve that will require me to flash to "summiter's" 2.17 ROM flash. I have poured through so many posts and I still do not know whether I have a clear understanding of the steps that I need to follow. Here is what I have already done to the machine:
1. Received standard Cingular 8125 with standard ROM
2. Used LOKIWIZ to unlocked the phone and confirmed.
3. Flashed the phone to HTC's new release for Cingular new shipments. http://www.htcamerica.net/support/cingular_8125.htm
4. Reconfirmed that phone was still unlocked.
I have seen threads regarding CID unlock for the phones already upgraded to the 2.17. DID THE LOKIWIZ do a CID unlock on my unit. If not, what would be the procedure? Do I need to unlock the CID before upgrading if LOKIWIZ did not unlcok?
Help me with the confusion. Much appreciated.

Here is my understanding so far:
Lokwiz can do SIM unlock as well as CID unlock. But you have to specifically instruct it to do so. They are two different unlock steps.
Although you can apply Summiter's ROM without CID unlock. It is strongly recommended to do so before upgrade. I think none of the unlock tools work with new AKU2 ROMs.
Hey gang.
Sorry if this is a dupe somewhere but I tried to look around and could not find this information.
I have an 8125 which is unlocked. I am finding the device slow and am told the new upgraded 2.x rom fixes much of the speed issues.
What I couldn't find was, if I install one of the rom updates, is my phone now locked again and I have to manually unlock it myself?
If it remains unlocked, I was thinking of installing the following:
http://www.cingular.com/midtolarge/microsoft
Is this a 2.x rom?
Also I am on Rogers GSM network, do I have to redo anything as far as text messages, phone etc? It's a new phone so I have no contact list etc.
Just want to make sure I'm not getting myself into a bricked phone before I do it
Thanks and take care!
once u unlock it, its always unlocked.
That is the 2.25 ROM, official Cingular release. You don't need to be unlocked to upgrade to it though.
When you start going to ROM's like Summiter's and the Mr. Clean ROM (or even some of the other carrier ROM's), then you'll definitely have to be CID unlocked.
As far as text messaging, no. That's pretty much stored on the SIM card as far as I can tell (at least it was for me).
For your Internet and such, that you will have to likely input.
Good luck!
I have searched these forums for the last three hours, and I have not been able to find any answers to questions I have about CID unlocking.
1. I bought my 8125 on 3 July 2006.
IPL/SPL 2.25
GSM 2.25.11
OS 2.25.11.1
How can I tell if this phone is CID unlocked? I found a lot of people saying that IPL's ending in .0001 cannot be CID unlocked, but I don't have that.
2. Once I've determined if it's locked, but unlockable, how do I do it? I was surprised to find, after searching over 75 threads, the only thing I found wa that I gotta send it to England and pay a bunch of $, but only if I have .0001 IPL.
I want to install the Cingular AKU2.3 ROM, hoping to fix a problem with my phone where it freezes every time I use IE for more than about 5 minutes. I'm already on my second one, and I don't want to go through the hassle of another return (it took me a week to get a new one last time). I ran the installer, and it says I need to have a CID unlocked device, but then does nothing to tell me how to determine if it is or not.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
you phone isn't unlocked.
look for lokiwiz, threads are by a poster machinagod. These threads will be in the Wizard forum, not the upgrading forum.
I am a noob here, and i have no clue what the forum is talking aobut, can someone please help me, i need to unlock my T-Mobile MDA to work with the Cingular Service
Look through the threads. Lokiwiz has produced an unlocker that will unlock your MDA(SIM and CID). You will need to determine if you have a G3 or G4 and that will get you started:

Reda this also:

After you get it unlocked you may want to install one of the cooked roms that will make it perform better. I am currently using Molski's rom:

I was completely lost at first but within a few days I had mine unlocked and upgraded. Just keep reading.
Good luck!
Hello, I am going to buy an HTC TYTN II Unlocked phone. I am now using an ATT 8525 on which I installed the HTC TYTN rom with WM6. I unlocked the 8525 using the Hard/SPL and SIM/CID unlock. My question is, since the TYTN II I am buying will be unlocked, do I still need to do the HARD/SPL and SIM/CID unlock to make the phone work on multiple carriers? I don't think I will be playing around with any different roms on the TYTN II since I heard it is a good rom, so my main question is about the SIM issue.
Thanks, sorry if this is a stupid question.
nope. its an unlocked phone by default if you buy it htc branded, so you don't need to do anything to sim unlock it, it'll just work - just make sure you let it set everying up properly when you turn it on for the first time
If you are buying an "unlocked" phone, it is SIM unlocked. That's what makes it possible to use it on any GSM carrier.
You only need to flash HardSPL (CID unlock the phone) if you plan to flash ROMs. That being said - the HTC ROM is decent, but not up to par with what the pros are cooking up here. I was hesitant to flash, so I used it for the first week. When I started flashing, I never looked back. They take the best from the stock ROMs and improve upon it (particularly in the speed and performance arena). FWIW.
Hey thanks for the clarification. I guess I should consider using a cooked ROM like I did for my 8525, what a difference it made to use the TYTN rom. I know there is a link for the HardSPL, so all I need to do is flash that to the TYTN II and I can use any rom I find, right? What about the issues with the drivers for the TYTN II, do any new roms address those issues? If I flash HardSPL am I then forced to immediately flash a new rom?
Is this the link for the HardSPL for the TYTN II?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
I don't need to run the SIM unlocker obviously, right? Just HardSPL?
What about SuperCID and Security Unlocker?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361236
Do I need to bother with this?
Hey there. What if I do the SIM/CID unlock on the TYTN II already unlocked phone? I remember that I had to do that on my 8525 before I could do the HardSPL. In other words, should I do the SIM/CID unlock and then do the HardSPL??
Thanks!
SIM unlock and CID unlock are two different things. If you are buying an "unlocked" phone, it will be SIM unlocked and you don't need to run anything. I wouldn't run anything SIM related (like the SIM unlocker that was released), just so you don't cause an issue. HardSPL (which will CID unlock your phone) will not force you to immediately flash a new ROM...just gives you the option to. Does not affect the current ROM you have on it. So there is no confusion - you should be looking here for info on HardSPL. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679 If you have any issues with the HardSPL, there are several stickies and many topics related to problems.
I have not used SuperCID or Security Unlocker. As such, there is no need to in order to take advantage of custom ROMs.
Again...don't mess around with the SIM unlocker if you are buying an "unlocked" phone. You do HAVE to run HardSPL before you try to flash a ROM or radio or anything. However, once you flash HardSPL you do not HAVE to immediately flash a ROM or radio.
I highly encourage you to read the wiki and the stickies more than once before you start messing around with this stuff or if you are even slightly confused. The standard ROM isn't so bad that you have to run out and flash the first day if you are not comfortable doing so. Good luck.
I'm getting a locked ATT which I'll be CID unlocking as well as SIM unlocking. What then would be the best ROM to run for the best overall functionality etc etc
Thanks
JG
Hey thanks for the help. I am fairly conifdent about flashing roms. I did it with no problem on the 8525 and it has worked well so far. I guess I will wait and play with the standard rom on the TYTN II and then decide about changing, but I will definitely flash HardSPL as soon as I get it.
Thanks again!!

They don't like anyone to ask about which rom to use because ther are so many, you just have to decide and play around with them on your own.

What is the best religion?
Which is the best football team?
OK the last one doesnt really apply as everyone knows it is Man United but you get the idea. Everyone has their own needs, preferences etc.
Best advice is to read the relevent ROM threads and choose one that sounds most appropriate for your needs. FWIW though Duttys ROMs do seem very popular.
