Hi all,
Did anybody try using XDA 2i as a removable storage? Unfortunately I am not allowed to install MS Activesync on my work PC, so any possible way to use it without ActiveSync.
I have a 4GB MMC card in my XDA but i still have to use a pen drive or burn files on to CD
Basically I want it to be able to use as a normal USB pen drive.
Any help very much appreciated.
Thanx in advance
:
Well I've found that when I put my Xda IIi into my laptop (Windows XP Home edition) it comes up USB Mass Storage Device if I dont activesync it, but my Desktop PC (Windows XP Professional edition) doesn't.
In work (Windows XP Professional edition) it ocmes up as mass storage device again :S
I dont know how this works out, but anyway the easiest answer is to buy a card reader, then hey-presto, plug into ur usb and your laughing
Try add on software
try to installL
Softick card export, it can make your xda read as removable storage by windows..
Hello all,
I have a problem: When I connect my Kaiser with a USB cable to a foreign computer it always wants to install drivers for my device, which, especially when i don't have administrative privilegs (school) renders my PDA useless.
So:
Is there a way (program/software?) to make the Kaiser look just like a USB stick for a PC? Just so that you can copy files?
WM5Storage
Google WM5Storage. Also works for WM6 and is fantastic. If activated your device is recognized as generic mass storage device.

Is WM5torage working out of the box, or does it still need the workaround with Softick Card Export?
wow, extremely fast reply, will check it out, thanks a LOT
however...I believe it is USB 1.1, not 2.0
Hello, i have qteck 9090 and my USB connector on the PDA are Burned. so i can only use BLUETOOTH sync with my PC. Is possible make upgrade to WM6 by SD CARD only?
Best Thanks in advance
PAscal
I'm afraid the answer is no.
For the angel, one has to have a working USB connection. If there was a way to add SD card flashing (I made use of this today with my hermes, beautiful thing it was!), I would hope that someone would add it to the boot loader.
If I may ask, how did the connector on the phone end up ruined?
i connect a bad GPS/carcharger Haicom to the qteck. The model that i had whas IPAQ 2210 and the connector look the same. Now with the right cable e use it perfect with GPS cable and Charger. But no way to have a contact for the USB SYNC. ( device non found) Thats will i use BLUTOOTH SYNC.
Thanks for help
Ps
The only other way to upgrade without a cable is through the sd method as jdc has pointed out. Sometime ago, I needed to do the upgrade but could not find any help in that direction. My thread on that did not receive any replies.

Actually, I pointed out that there is no SD Card method for the angel.
Wish there was. Flashing images from a SD card on my hermes is a beautiful thing.

Hi There,
i have been searching for a while now but i could not find it anywhere.
is there a tool for the tytn II thats makes it possible to connect it to the computer and that you get a menu with the following:
active sync
disk drive mode
internet sharing
just like the diamond.
on my rom i only have these 2 options
active sync
internet sharing

That's because on the Kaiser nothing but the CardExport program manages to emulate disk drive mode.
Is the disk drive mode that CardExport gives you noticeably better than just exploring the phone when it's plugged in normally? I know when you do it that way it threatens to convert your files when you copy them over, but in my experience it never actually does.
The only time I used disk drive mode on my Hermes was so I could charge it via my PS3 usb port since I spend a considerable amount of time next to my PS3 (my ps3 is next to my theater chair since I have a 122" projection screen and the Projector and surround sound system - and PS3 - are next to the chairs in the back of the room.)
I haven't tried it on my Kaiser since when I got the Kaiser it came with another charger which I placed there so I don't need the PS3 to charge anymore.
I'd be interested to see if it would increase the transfer speed though.. my God is it slow..
There is one utility 'nueMassStorage' that is supposed to do this, however I can't get it to work. I have it cooked into my rom and it does indeed present you with the option of ActiveSync or Mass Storage when you connect it to a PC via USB. ActiveSync works as normal but unfortunately I can't get the Mass Storage to work - it appears as a drive but Windows can't open it.
Maybe you can have more luck with it? Its available here as an OEM package to cook into a ROM or as a .cab to install.

I think that's cooked into the HyperDragon III Raphael ROM.. I'll test it out later.. I only ever hit the active sync button since I don't like transferring over USB due to the ridiculously slow connection.
try WM5torage

does not work on kaiser unless you hack in the cardexport driver.

I'd like to know how they got this working? I have tried all the USB memory card utilities I could find (WM5torage, Card Export and nueMassStorage) and I can't get any of them to work. WM5Torage just doesn't work at all, Card Export & nueMassStorage seem to exhibit the same behaviour where they activate and Windows sees a storage card but can't access it (I think it asks if you want to format it). I have tried on 4 different Windows XP & 2003 machines and all behave the same so it is obviously the Kaiser (or the ROM).
I have MS Voice Command installed and I think I read that this might be the problem, however I gave up in the end and carry a tiny microSD-USB adapter on a keyring so I can at least get access, even if I have to take the microSD out.

Nope, nevermind. PLugged it in and it's just active sync or internet sharing.. I can't remember where I saw that... might have been another phone I was using.. lol..

Same here, much faster for big files like TomTom maps.

Hmmm... I might give it a try then. Normally I use my card reader when I have big stuff to transfer, but it'd be nice to not have to physically move my card.

I got the stock at&t 6.0 rom with the bloatware removed and lots of extra programs isntalled... Running Vista ultimate x64 edition....

It's faster than Activesync indeed, and maybe more importantly doesn't require it to be installed on the PC you want to transfer files from, but it's still MUCH slower than putting the card in a reader. The communication on the Kaiser's USB is done at USB1.1 speeds (~800kB/s max while a card in a reader usually results in 3-15MB/s depending on the card and reader).

Yes this was my findings exactly. If you can use the card reader then do because nothing comes close in terms of speed.
