Hi All;
Does anyone have a simple plugin to effectively close application (close button (X) doesn't close the application, it still runs in a background).
Is SPB PocketPlus the only option?
Cheers;

TranCreative MagicButton. Accept no substitutes. MB is simple, but really effective.
Wasn't that one of the new features of WM2005 when marketed by MicroSoft before the release? (among others that didn't make it into the final production)
I use GSPocketMagic++. Does it all, no need for any other sys utils.
close pplications using two clicks of the stylus
Hi,
I use a program called VBAR which is free ware and alows you to close individual programs or all programs using just two clicks of the stylus, Seems to be quite small so not a drain on my XDA II

P.s. I am running a 2400mah battery, lasts at least 2 full days on standby.
Surprised nobody's mentioned Harald-René Flasch's free 'Switch' app, an excellent little piece of software which I have on my phone and have had almost since day dot.

Thank you about your kind words about Switch.
Some hate it but a lot seems to love it
Of course I am using it also daily (on LOOX 600 using PPC2002 + MDA Compact II using WM2005).
Another vote for MagicButton, here. Use it and love it.
Guys,
For summary, I've created the list of plugins/task manager that can effectively close the applications.
Commercial
1. SPB Pocket Plus - http://spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/pocketplus/?en
2. Wisbar Advance / Wisbar Lite - http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/
3. HandySwitcher - http://www.dinarsoft.com/handyswitcher/
Freeware
3. smclose - http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/smclose.shtml (It's not a Task Manager but a utility to do real close).
4. vBar - http://www.vieka.com/vbar.htm
5. tMan - http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/tman.shtml
6. MagicButton - http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/magicbutton.shtml
7. Switch - http://www.hfrmobile.com/app_Switch_T1/index.htm
8. pBar - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284952
9. GSPocketMagi++ - http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/gspocketmagic.shtml
10. Small Menu - http://www.tillanosoft.com/ce/smenu.html
11. Quickmenu - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340352http://www.yonsm.net/attachment.php?f=attachment/QuickMenu.rar (so far this is the best Start Menu replacement and task manager I can find, kudos to Nanling!)
12. IcBar - http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/icbar.shtml
13. wisBar - http://walkers.ne.jp/ce00_wisbar.htm
14. WkTASK - http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html
This is what I found so far, feel free to add in to the list if you know others.
Cheers,
Vibranze
My vote goes for Wisbar.
Vibranze, great list.
I've used Small Menu Plus for several years, does what I need.
I like the look of pTask or pBar or whatever it's called, on this forum.
One of the older Wisbars, or GSPocket Magic are good alternatives.

PS Note that the Pocket PC Experts Awards judge this category of products. Check out their reviews. I'm judging this category this year

Do you have the URL for the reviews?
I tried small menu, it can't auto bind with Win key like WisBar, so I need to use AE Button to map it.

Don't have url. Just google for Pocket PC Experts Awards and then go through the required categories. Let me know if you have any specific issues with any of the reviewed apps.

CE 5.2 not supported ?!?
Hello everyone,
I have CE 5.2 (in case you don't know what this is, it's called popularly Windows Mobile 6 or WM6). But the tools I see here don't all work on 5.2 ... and the ones that don't work can be fully skinned, and that's what I want!
So: I want something FREEWARE (commercial is not an option for me... ) that can be fully skinned, like WisBar Advance (it's commercial, so no way), or like IcBar.
IcBar could be good, but it is not working on WM6.
BTW: Not all ones for WM5 (CE 5.0) work with WM6! ( ) And as far as I know, the ones for PPC2003SE or lower really don't work! (example: WisBar Advance 1.3.3.2 for PPC2003 worked at 1 frame/year)
an old thread but worth reopening: MagicButton!!!
I just downloaded and installed on my Axim 50Xv with LennySh L11 6.1
It looks great so far. Anyone should give it a try.
Find at: http://www.trancreative.com/mb.aspx
Yes, it's in the list Never tried before, heard after use several time there will be an issue, not sure though.

I vote for Wisbar but it cost, WkTask is free and kinda good
Also try PointUI at http://pointui.com
//Drakfisken
I'm using wkTask as well and it's good.

Ok, I see a lot of customisation done here, so I think it's time to make a rom based on user requests. Of course, please don't ask for headset, BT, SD, wifi, this will of course be added when found.
Just post what kind of rom you would like, and we will try to find a list of good programs to include.
Criteria are: small programs, specially usefull, and (possibly) free to use in a rom.
Adding as much as possible in a rom is counter productive, as it grabs more storage space than installing the cab afterward.
My guess is that programs should be in the following categories:
GPS aid tools
Phone aid tools
Today plugin tools
Memory and system managment tools
Core functionality
Default settings
The following post will compile what has been selected. Rom will be created when enough input is aquired. Requests can be done for removal also (like games for example)
now fire your requests

To me it is sufficient that there was an application that gives me the opportunity to do everything with your fingers. Without using the scrollbar. As in Mr gullum ROM. Thanks for this opportunity to express your wishes.

ClearTemp v1.2 (http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/cleartemp.shtml)
would like....
i would like one that has only the phone, text messages, touchflo (if possible) and GPS, for everything else we have the Vista side like office, messenger and any other app we could possibly want.
botton line the less you put in it the faster it will be and still leave room to install any other app an specific user may want.
just my 2 cents.
BTW great work we are all very thankfull for all your hard work and that goes to cmonex and the rest of your team.
thanks
Call firewall and what you have listed chat of some type (I use yahoo)
i would love to have a ROM based on MANILA or POINT UI or throttle launcher.
i know that there is not much space. but it can be done ( for some resone it works slow..)
please, im willing to donate ( again!!) to the one that will creat that kind of ROM. ( no need for SnupVue...or Office..
10x!
Your current rom is almost perfect. Everybody can install the programs they want. Only I would like have speaker phone forced on like iOO did in his rom and those three themes can be replaced with just one black snapvue theme. And also it should be possible to soft reset from wm side so you dont have to start vista to do that.
Less is more
Actually I would like to see more stripped out all non-essential files/ anything to make more room for programs and data!
I see you put the HTC tools in there, but with the exception of USBTool,RealVGA and cab install support - I wonder how many times I will fire up GPS Debugging...
There maybe some housecleaning opportunities in the Windows Directory (temp files and other such....)
A good screen rotation utility would be nice - I use Mobipocket for WM for reading ebooks and it also has the nice side effect of rotating the WinMo display (if you rotate the display within MobiPocket it keeps the WinMo display rotated after you exit the reader) *** side note to ask MobiPocket to enable rotation in the desktop version of their tool (funny that they didn't think to put it in there - if enough people harangue them from this forum maybe?) - which I also have running on the Vista side and it sets my teeth on edge to know that i can't rotate the display...grrr.... ****
So I am ok on the screen rotation - but maybe others dont want to install Mobipocket........
Anything that would help battery life -- power miser settings set as default in most things that you might otherwise have to configure --
Lean and mean........
thanks for the current state - which rocks!
Shame on HTC for crippling such a neat device.
regards
Sudipta
I'm registering all requests and also lean on to a clean rom.
lean for me too
first, thanks to all the ROM cooks. i have tried almost all of them and am now using thaihugo's latest. i haven't had this much fun configuring and reconfiguring a machine since installing Slackware 1.1 in 1994.
what a sad loser, i am. well, insomniac anyway.
i'd like a really lean ROM because i like to install my own selection of stuff: pocketxpdf, tcpmp. quickmenu, putty. i don't even need Activesync or the built in e-mail client and calendar. for me, it would be great if anything that i could easily install myself was left out.
Is it possible to include 800X480 resolution driver to fully utilize the screen. Thank you very much!
I've followed your requests here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=495143
wow, fast.. Maybe a easy way, to customize your ROM with standard European language packs.
(french, italia, german, spain,..
I Would prefer a ROM BASE on WinMo 6.1 as UDK's rom was cause it worked fine with haret.
I Woud like a complete Rom With:
- GPS Fix
- QuickGPS
- Phonestuff enabled
- Google Maps (if you have it working with GPS)
- Opera
- TouchFlo (if possible =)
Apps: (prefered as cabs to install them when needed)
- IM Slick
- Mobile Office
- Total Commander
- Finger Keyboard (If it will will work)
- GoogleMaps
- Adobe Reader
I liked your roms but they wont work with haret.
So hopefully will work in future !

SnapVue Cab
What I really want (and have no clue how to do) is the SnapVue as a today plugin cab.
Love your Light ROM (it is my current one). However, I love SnapVue as a concept also. Some things to think about/fix (?):
-The clock allows you to open it to the alarms and Time Zones (I am using a plug in similar to the SnapVue Clock/Calender)
-The "Settings" button is remapped to programs OR opens a shortcut tab for key programs (customisable)
-The Plugin does not "steal" all the real estate. Currently it covers the scroll bar so you can not add other plugin above or below it. This is very irritating (particularly for me who has several plugins).
Currently, I can only get SnapVue (with other ROMS) to work with other plug-ins if I use RealVGA. However, using RealVGA then stops my spb Travel Assistant working (don't understand why).
Food for thought
Cheers
even lighter if possible!
I am using Age of Reason, and it is fantastic - I now even have space to store a bit of my own audio and video. I have also just installed the new YouTube WM application from m.youtube.com which works but has very jerky motion.
I am using TCPMP, so have no use for WMP. I also do not use ActiveSync, so if that was optional, it would save me some space (as well as having to kill it from time to time).
I still think that any item that is available in a simple CAB install might as well be left out, unless it takes up less space by burning it into the ROM.
Thanks again for all your efforts.

Actually, removing this component will make you lose memory, so it's better to keep them. Don't ask me why, but it is this way. WMP and activesync are system components...
Need i say more? Thanks for this great ROM! Age of reason is on my shift and it works great!
So, I've decided to reflash my Xperia after I played with some of the settings and managed to make the whole thing really slow, choppy and buggy. There's nothing wrong with the device, I've just messed things up a bit. Nothing to worry, I'm not a newbie with stuff like this, just a bit over-enthusiastic and overconfident at times.
So, to the point, I'm looking for better alternatives to the ROM and software I already have. I'll give you a quick run-down of the stuff I have, the stuff I love and the stuff I never use with my Xperia.
The stuff I have:
-SEX1 R3.61 Barebone ROM (and all the apps et al that came with it) with SEX1cons F v3
-SPB Mobile Shell 3.x (the newest one ATM with the Weather widget)
-G-Alarm
-Opera Mobile (newest Beta)
-Opera Mini
-Pocket Player
-Google Maps
-VistaHide Battery Gauge
-Some YouTube stuff I would use if they worked properly (which they don't, partially thanks to me)
The stuff I love:
-The SPB Mobile Shell above all else. If someone would make a ROM based on the Shell alone, I would flash my Xperia with it immediately. It's got the most conventional interface in any operating system I've ever come across. I just love it.
-G-Alarm. Never has waking up been so easy. (OK, it's still not easy, but at least I do get up nowadays. )
-The conversation-style SMS
-The both Opera browsers (when they work, which is less often than I'd like)
-The tweaked camera of the SEX1 ROM
-Google Maps. I've lost count how many times I would have lost without it.
-The "notes" function.
-Messenger
-The music and video playing capabilities of the device (regardless of programs. I use Pocket Player out of habit and WMP for video playback because the PP can't handle videos all that well)
-VistaHide Battery Gauge & the fancy SEX1cons
The stuff I never use and would like to get rid off or at least hide/disable somehow:
-All the GPS garbage. QuickGPS etc. I have no GPS devices and I'm not about to buy any. Google Maps is more than enough for me.
-E-Mail. I use E-Mail so seldom anyway, I haven't even bothered to set up an account on my Xperia.
-Panels. They were fun in the beginning, but nowadays I prefer apps to panels. I don't even remember when was the last time I pressed the "X Panel"-button on purpose. Not useless, but unnecessary to me as I never use them anyway.
So, the thing I'm asking is what would be the best choices for a new ROM and whether there's some software I should consider adding or replacing some of my old apps with? For me, a ROM is just something to install SPB Mobile Shell over, so there's no need for a fancy interface or loads of apps or anything. Just the bare essentials; a fast and stable ROM plus some of the basic apps (calculator et al I seldom use, but couldn't live without). I'm not a conservatist, so I'm not afraid to abandon any of the stuff I have for something better if there is.
Also, as I obviously have to backup my PIM data, do most of the backup apps out there function correctly with the conversation-style SMS messaging?
Give me a hand here, guys, I know your collective brainpower and knowledge far exceeds mine, that's why I asked you in the first place. Thanks in advance of any tips, suggestions etc. you could give me.

Hey, if I wouldn't need the help I wouldn't have asked. It's a sign of respect, you know? That I trust in your knowledge? You don't need to answer to anything. Even small opinions and pieces of information are more than welcome.
I recently flashed my X1i, tbh it was piss easy, just install hardspl and copy the image to ur SD card!
I would suggest trying EnergyRom, or if u need Jack's 4.x full if u need asian language support
SPB Mobile shell 2.0 is was my favourite, but that was easily replaced by Touchflo3d!
The rest of the apps u listed u can easily install afterwards.
btw there's an entire forum section dedicated to X1 ROM's, so u're prob posting in the wrong place
As I told, I'm not a newbie with this stuff. It's pretty dang easy, it's just that as you guys've been here longer than I, you naturally know more about the different ROMs and software than I do. I'm not asking you how to flash or anything, I'm asking you which ROM would best suite my needs and whether or not I should replace some of the apps I've been using so far with something better.
I took a quick look at the EnergyRom and if the author knows his stuff (which it seems), it seems like a cool pile-o'-bytes. I'll take it into consideration.

I was thinking that, too, but then decided to post here as I'm not specifically talking about ROMs alone, but the whole device's software in general.
I agree with Mjollnir1983, jackleung's "Jack V4.x Lite" would most likely be a good choice for you. I also agree that Touch Flo 3D is better the SPB Mobile Shell, but that's your personal choice. If you wanted to try TF3D, "Jack V4.x Medium" would be a good combination of a clean rom and TF3D. I personally like agent_47's "Valkyrie v3.x FireStorm", because it is has TF3D and is a fast rom with some useful apps. However it may have to many apps for you. If you decide you like agent_47's roms, then "Xperio" might work out alright. It doesn't have TF3D, but still has some good HTC stuff that makes it look better and is a more clean rom than firestorm. Links are bellow. Also I thought I would mention that QuickGPS is something you might want to keep, because it helps Google Maps get a satellite lock quicker. It doesn't always work great, but their are some fixes if your having problems with it.

I tried the TouchFLO 3D on my friend's cell and it seemed okay after a short while of getting used to. Not that different from SPB Mobile Shell and no disadvantages whatsoever compared to it. I'll give it a shot. Thanks a million, guys.
Now, the biggest question is whether or not there's a PIM backup app available that works correctly with the conversation-style SMS. (At the moment every time I restore a backup, it only restores the messages I've sent, not received. It's the messaging app itself that is responsible, cos I've tried several backup apps.) Is there, or is it just the messaging app I've tried to tweak that is responsible?
About the other apps... Well, I'll do some research myself. I'll probably stick with at least some of them for a while.
Um... I don't know man, there are thousands of apps. I think ROMs are down to personal preference and you should just try many of them to find the best one for you. From the top of my head:
Pocket Music - best music player IMHO.
SkyFire - nice broswer for flash heavy sites.
HTC mp3 trimmer WVGA - perfect for making your own ringtones.
SKTools, advanced config and xperia tweak - best tune up software there is.
SPB Online - online games, radio and TV.
MyMobiler - lets you control the X1 from your PC.
Innobec Side Window - use the X1 as a secondary screen for your PC.
Resco Explorer and Photo Viewer.
SPB Weather
SPB Insight - RSS feeds.
HTorch - pocket flashlight.
WinMobileTorrent
Core Player - best player for every video file except mp4 (use WMP for that).
MS Reader - E-Book reader.
Skype mobile
MorphGear - perfecr emulator for every old game possible.
WK Task - best task manager/launcher/x button.
Homescreen ++ - lets you check your temp, cpu speed, ram usage and more, directly on your homescreen. You can havega taskbar launcher as well. This app is a must.
There are many more, but you have to be more specific about what you want.
Cheers

You have the internal GPS of the Xperia!!!
Google maps use A-GPS need data connection to work. The normal GPS is free (exception of software and maps).
@orelsi: Thanks, I'll take a look at those shortly.
kremlincrackers: The more you know...
Thanks a lot, I wasn't aware of that at all. That means I should keep the QuickGPS, then.
EDIT: I started flashing the Jack V4.x Medium ROM. Let's see what this thing's capable of...
What you're looking for is a similar version of what I have,
You could have any light/fast ROM, I prefer to use a tweaked ROM with cache and memory enhancements. At present I am using WM 6.5 but it's even more stable with 6.1
Then SPB Shell 3, as for applications adn in addition:
- Removed X Panels and remapped panel key to Resco Explorer.
- TOMTOM this is essential, if you wish not to spend money on it there are some free alternatives, although not as good.
- Resco Explorer and Registry editor
- SBP Television, Insight, Snapshot and Imageer.
- My Mobiler
- Finger Keyboard
- World Card Mobile
- Rhodium Dialer
Cumps
Okay, fellas, thanks for the help!
I tried the ROMs mentioned above, but finally settled for the awesome Touch X ULTIMATE X-TREME 10.1 Original Green which was suggested to me by a friend of mine. I can't praise it enough. I've used 8-12 ROMs (including big names like Valkyrie, Touch-IT and SEX1 R3) in the past and it's ultimately the fastest and most stable of them. As long as it keeps running as well as it is ATM, I seriously doubt I'll ever change the ROM again. The only tweaks I had to make were adding a Programs-tab to the TF3D and removing all the Panel Manager stuff while rebinding the panel key to Pocket Player.
Give it a shot, guys. You might fall in love just like I did.

I have cooked a ROM that came near to what you want.... but it's in German.
ht*p://w*w.htc-developers.de/viewtopic.php?f=87&t=5662
I think you need one in WWE.
I try to cook one for you...
Mark...
Yes, should be WWE and thank you.
Energy Android
Have you tried this? It has Harem installed which can be nicely ignored, but i believe it's desolate otherwise.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625330
Yes I have tried that ROM and there were some issues, I don't recall at the mment what it was. I will try it again and see.
So I checked again the recomended *Energy Android Super Lite ROM* and it just doesn't work for me for few reasons.
- It doesn't have the Start, Close/OK buttons on the bottombar.
- Atleast I couldn't disable the DualBoot app
- When changing the Start menu skin to make it 1-row, the Start menu stopped working, and the skin was OK in other ROMs
And here is some addition to my requerements for the ROM, that I just forgot to list before:
- The Default Windows keyboard, no touch keyboard (can be installed if needed)
- 20 MB Pagepool
- USB to PC should be present (it is just too usefull to omit)
- Should have .NET Framework 3.5
- The ROM should be UC capable
I'd be interested in this too, I'll keep an eye on this thread.
here is your rom:

let me know if you like it, and if you want something different, i will be your personal cooker
Well...Great! One thing though. After flash it wouldn't start and won't even allow me to Hard Reset. Thankfully I can still enter BootLoader.
Thanks for your work anyway.
base on your fist post, I think its best for you to buy a phone something
that does not resemble a windows based PPC.
i seriously think you'll attract more bogus people pretending to be a cook
rather than attract the attention of Real Cooks here in XDA.
I want a Clear ROM also
I know few ROM`s that are super cool i mean fast, stable and everything is fine the things i don`t like is ONLY that they have installed APPS that i don`t use and i never will use, so if someone can Edit this ROM`s i mean just to delate all APPs that i don`t need will save from the Main Memory and will be just perfect.

Let me guess - to you Windows based PPC meens Manilla, Internet Explore and Solitaire?
I would like to have options, a choise, and benefit from the rich treasury of Windows Mobile software. I would like to choose SPB Mobile Shell, PointUI, Androkkid, iFonz, Gsmart, rlToday, phoneAlarm, FreeStylWM, FEWidgets and countless other Today screen launchers, clocks and plugins.
I would like to choose a Comm Manager (there are different ones), use the Wireless Manager, or use the functions of a third party apps, PhonEx for instance.
I would like to choose which version of Internet Explorer to install or Opera 9.5, Opera 9.7 Beta, Opera 10 Beta, Opera Mini, Fennec, SkyFire, Iris Browser, UC Browser, Dorothy Browser (WebKit), Web Viewer, Maximus Web Browser, dedicated Facebook (or whatever) app or simply go radical and use only a RSS reader.
I would Like to choose if I want Ms Office 2007 or 2010, SoftMaker Office, pTab or just a notepad app.
I would like to choose Adobe Reader LE or Foxit Reader, Haali Reader, AlReader, PocketXpdf, PocketDjVu, CHMReader.NET or MobiPocket Reader.
I would Like to choose PocketCM Image Viewer, HTC Album, Resco Photo Viewer, XnView Pocket, S2V, Photoshop.com Mobile, NoniView or Image Explorer LE.
I would like to choose Total Commander, Voyager, Resco Explorer, Throttle Explorer or WinXplore.
I would like to choose Core Player, TCPMP, Pocket DivX Player, Kinoma Free Play, PocketMVP, Real Player, Mobile Media Center, PocketTV Classic, Nitrogen Player, GSPlayer, S2P, PocketMusic, MortPlayer, FingaThing, Pomod, WinVibe, YouTube app, MyPlayer, iPlayer.
I would like to choose scientific or simple or accountant calculator.
I would Like to choose my phone suite - Phone Canvas, PhonEx, Photo Contacts, Finger Friendly Friends, Contact Manager, Sunnysoft Contacts, Inesoft Phone, Yota Phone, Nektra Contact Manager, iContact+iDialer, Avatar, PocketCM, TouchCaller, QDz, SSContact, PhoneContacts, Minimal Dialer, o3touch, Aezy Contact or Full Screen Dialer.
I would like to choose my keyboard - SPB Keyboard, Resco Keyboard, Micron, VGA Keyboard, EzInput, PocketCM Keyboard, TouchPal, Smart Key Board, TapTap, Touch Keyboard, PDA keyboard, softKEY, FleXslide, etc.
See my point? I dont Want a HTC Phone or Windows Phone I DO Want a Pocket PC.
But hey, you can still disable Sense/Manila from the today and put the hell you want in your HD.
I don't get it, you just want to get rid all that things for what? To go to the Memory Settings and see that you have a looooot of free memory?!? For what?
It's like having a 8GBram with a 1TB disk computer and never use 100% it's of the capabilities...

Maybe I would like o make a Dedicated DOSBox PDA out of my Blackstone?
No seriosly - it's not about that. Why have Manilla and all other kinds of software in the first place if you will use something else anyway? Now I don't get that. It's about a clean slate (Now that's a name for a ROM - Tabula Rasa).

Hi!
Somebody important on this forum have sent my a himalaya!
I'm very happy of this, thank you, thank thank thank!!!
Now, when I have two phones, one himalaya which can't be used normally, and normal today use himalaya where I can test more stabler builds as normal use I can cook anywhere, everyday, everytime, always, and non-stop!
so I will COOK, COOK, COOK, COOK, COOOOOOK !!
Thank you muckelmaus !! You keept himalaya alive!
When I was no phone human (lol) I cooked a new rom, added so many useful things, etc!
Already built-in things:
- EzInput as default
- new graphics (more better)
- QuickMenu which can be used WITH homeycomb, you can use quickmenu and honeycomb at one moment!
- MS Tag reader
- Ms marketplace
- many fixes
I would build in manila
Here goes your propositions!
What you would have in your perfect rom?
Answer here, I will do anything to make best roms here! Ever!
Fine, that you happy again.
Do you like the aluminium cover? So, now you can sit down on your device, without braking it.
But I have to inform you: Be carefully, it does not swim! It even dives a lot better now!
I have a suggestion for a new signature for you:
Hey guys, take more corn flake, and less milk!

Done
Alluminium cover looks like bulletproof I use it
do not want.
things that should not! be in a ROM are -error reporting and customer feedback and marketplace.
and if u know how to remove them in a kitchen ie, which files, folders, .dll or .exe to delete please tell!
the amount of ROM's that are ruined and wasted by still having one of them installed especially having the icons for their tab in startmenu.
DAMN DAMN error reporting , customer feedback and marketplace
My perfect rom would be a wm 6.1 rom that is fast and has HTC Home and a honeycomb start menu.
AWESOME!!!! Or get HTC Home working in wm6.5

Firstly Welcome back Aeroflyluby
My ideal ROM will include the following
1: MS Office - A must include (I usually use alot of documents especially for work and University)
2: Adobe PDF - this is not essential but very useful in my view
3: Palringo - (I love it since you can login to MSN, Yahoo, Googletalk etc)
4: TOM TOM - As I travel alot to Europe with my little angel car I am more like dependent on TOMTOM - Only the program is needed I can get the maps with no issues
5: PIM Backup - *Most Important* since you can't tell when your hima dies out (talking with experience so this Utility is a big MUST.
6: PSSHUTXP - I use this when I get some problem with 'Hima getting stuck' and its quite handy - not very important though
7: Task Manager - One of the greatest things which should be on the main programs page and not under any folder such as System
8: A very simple Contact List just like we have in 6.1 and in some 6.5. The one I have right now I hate it but I don't know how to remove it and put the one I like so I left it as it is.
9: NoThreadedSMS - This is a must for me since I hate the conversational view of SMS - It just doesn't look natural to me so NoThreadedSMS please
10: Although I have been adding FastCleanup ever since I started upgrading Hima - I am not sure what it does to be honest - sometimes after browsing internet it doesn't show anything deleted yet at some time it does. Anyhow that is an optional for me.
11: The icons on the taskbar should be the same colour as of the background i.e. the buttons should not stand out with their individual background colours. The background (wallpaper) should be simple and not too shiny that you can't see a thing
Rest all is the usuall stuff which I am not too keen on changing ..

Jay

ROM isn't storage.
There is 2 chips on mainboard there, ROM, which can be read only in critical situations, like installing a new system on EMPTY doc.
DOC, which is storage, it is 64 mb (i guess it is because rom with compression takes 32 mb lol), partitioned as BIN-EXT-STOrAGE, but many people merge ext and storage part in one partition.
Hi guys,
My dad's handed me his Vario III / (Kaiser 120) to use.
I did a reset using the option in 'SETTINGS' to reset it and lose all date. Now, when I start it up, it looks like new and the time/date has to be set. All my dad's contacts have gone. Cool. - 1. Was this a Hard-Reset ?
I went to something like SETTINGS > INFO and got this:
Radio Vers 1.70.18.02
ROM DATE 9/01/08
ROM Vers. 3.31.110.3 WWE
Build 19212.1.03
When I start it up, it says Windows Mobile v6.1
A couple years ago, I loaded tomtom navigator on it for my dad. It was really good with the internal gps.
Anyway, now that I have the phone, I'd like to install tomtom navigator on it, use the camera (maybe 10 photos a week) and upload pics to my PC, and browse the internet (email, twitter etc.) from time to time. Also, I'd use the handset to connect via bluetooth to my laptop so I can use it for internet (in emergencies, as it is kinda slow). I also text (3-5 texts a day)
I also downloaded an app called Shazam.cab from a site called mobilism, which I would love to use as I have seen it on my lucky friend's iPhone and the app is awesome!
2. Apart from the usb cable, and active sync on my pc, do i need anything else to install shazam on my phone/micro sd card?
3. I assume a ROM means operating system? Like windows xp, 7 etc.
I see that people are putting new ROMs on their phone. My phone has
Storage Free Space: 121MB and Programs Free 55MB. There isn't a lot of 'bloatware' hogging up resources on there, as far as i can see.
4. Do I need to install a custom ROM now that you know my uses (in blue font above) for the phone? / do I need to flash it? I.e. will a new ROM/flash make my life a lot easier? Better to convert to android system? Will I need to do any of these things to install shazam?
I was goin to do this on the weekend so I can use other sims in my phone:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
fingers crossed it goes ok.
Can you please help?
Thank you
Sonny
ps. I may need to ask a couple more questions after this. Once again thank you for your help. If anyone needs advice on cameras, please let me know as I am a regular contributor to a photography forum.
1. Yes, it was HARD-Reset (removes all settings, contacts, messages, ...). It doesn't do anything to the MicroSD card.
2. I don't know anything about that. Sorry!
3. Yes, ROM means operating system. There are stock ROMs and modified ROMs. For Kaiser (a.k.a. HTC TyTN II) you'll find only stock Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM and lots of modified WM 6.1 and WM 6.5 ROMs. There's no stock WM 6.5 ROM for Kaiser.
4. Android is not stable enough. Sometimes it crashes, doesn't wake up and so on... All your mentioned things can be done with both WM 6.1 and 6.5, so it's for you to decide what to use. WM 6.1 looks a little bit old and terrible, but it uses less resources than WM 6.5 which looks a little bit... like system that was made to be similar to iPhone OS. Yes, WM 6.5 is more finger-friendly, but the applications grid drives me crazy, it uses more resources (and loves draining the battery)
Thank you very much for taking the time to post. I found it really useful.
I stuck with original HTC ROM with 6.1 and I am loving it. Shazam works wonderfully well. The phone is so damn sharp. And, using 2 apps at once is brilliant.
Does anyone know if I can put more icons/apps on the TODAY SCREEN?
At the moment, I am only allowed to put 6 in the start menu screen, and 1 (tom tom) on the today screen.
My Start menu has: 1 File explorer, 2 organiser (i use the calculator a lot), 3 internet explorer, 4 MS word (for my notes), 5 shazam (use a lot), 6 Resco photo manager (for uploading to FlickR)
I'd like to add 2 more apps (wunder radio + core player) somewhere with quick access.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Try copying applications links (.lnk files) from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ to \Windows\Start Menu\
I'm not sure if it's going to work with Windows Mobile 6.1, but it's safe to try
