Is there nothing to be done? I had a phone whose touch screen was acting a little off. I used Cingular_Custom_AKU2.3_Combo_Installer_V1 after unlocking the device and it ran fine. When the OS first comes up it requires you to recalibrate your pointer tho, and since my touch screen was fouling up, I couldn't. I called Cingular and got a replacement phone this morning. I turned it on and let it load up its OS. I used ActiveSync and had a successful sync. I unlocked the device. I used Cingular_Custom_AKU2.3_Combo_Installer_V1 again to upgrade the OS. At 40% my computer unexpectedly rebooted. According to the messages that appeared when the computer came back up it was a driver error that caused the reboot (http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.aspx?SGD=aa971456-440a-4269-a79e-1f07bda35989&SID=10). I tried to run the installer again but it could not find the phone; ActiveSync could not be engaged. I powered the phone off and back on and just get the RGB screen. I tried to reset the device but nothing still. Am I completely screwed??
Do a little reading on interrupted rom flashes. Search for "Bootloader Mode".
You need to flash your device again but this time you have to start in the Bootloader screen (RGB Bars).
Cool thanx. I looked around for people having problems installing ROMs but the only thread I found no one had answered. This gives me something to search for. Appreciate it!

One other tip, from what I've read, it is recommended to make sure your Wizard is connected to one of the MAIN USB ports on your computer, for desktops, these will be on the back of the computer (the ones soldered directly to the motherboard). The ones on the front are usually essentially connected to a USB hub, and not directly to the controller.
On a laptop, all of the ports should be good.
mine did the same thing last night with the 2.3 with cf2. i had chosen option 2 (no bootloader) and my machine rebooted at 40%. Since this has happened to me once or twice before, i walked in the other room and did the upgrade from the laptop without issue. then sync'd the phone back up with my desktop as was good to go.
On a side note, you don't need activesync installed to upgrade the phone. if you keep running into issues try from a different computer. thats what has worked for me.

Seconded. Use the USB ports on the back of the machine that are directly connected to the motherboard. Sometimes the ones on the front are connected to the motherboard via a cheap connection.
A number of manufacturers assume users will insert and remove devices which scrapes off the oxidation, and use cheaper metal because of this. A connection that stays in for a long time eventually builds a large enough oxide "crust" it causes problems with the electricial connection, and becomes flaky. This is possibly why a number of front-port USB plugs become intermittant after a while.
I've noticed newer PCs are using gold-plated contacts which tend to make this problem go away, but both mating contacts must be gold, else you get bi-metallic chemical reactions between them, and have the same problem as tin or copper-based contacts.
Sometimes there are so many things hanging off a computer's USB bus that you might just buy a PCI card with USB 2.0 plugs on it and use that.

Hi
First of all try to reinstall Microsoft ActiveSync, than in the ActiveSync options, in your device, be sure that in "Connections..." setting "Synchronize all PC by this connection" is checked and below "USB" showed!
Otherwise, if your device, when connected to the PC, also doesn't charge (if you have this option enebled on your PDA!) there is some problem on your PC settings concerning the USB! Try to connect to someother PC to test it!
Ciao

hello there, first n foremost thanks for your input!
Before trying out your possible solution i tried to connect and for some reason i was able to connect via the device today...??!!
i really dont know why, but will try your soln if this situation reocurrs.
NB: this happenned to me twice in the last 3-4 months, n i never figured out the cause ??
any other advice or ideas gratefully accepted.;
its probably the same as me and loads of other people - the pins have bent on your usb connector - probably caused by using non standard chargers and usb leads. Its been widely reported. The non-standard leads have too much space around them when plugged in and wiggle causing the connector on the tytn II to bend. Try using the lead which came in the box and see if it helps. and try using the charger that came with it too.
Can bent pins be fixed?
Hello -- I'm one of those people with a non-recognition problem. Is it possible to fix the bent pins? My problem seems to have begun around the time I lost my original USB cable. Now, all the cables I have -- ones that have been specifically sold to work with my HTC Tilt -- have the symmetrical, sort-of-trapezoidal mini-usb connection, rather than the rectangle-with-one-corner-cut-off shape of the original cable. I should say these cables do charge my device, but none of my computers recognizes it as a USB device.
Help?
Thank you,
J. Georgia
bent pins continued
I should add that the charging cable that originally came with my phone has the same connector shape, so I'm not sure what's going on.
USB Device not recognised
This is known to happen at times win Windows, and not just for the TYTN2 but a myriad of devices.
The fastest fix for this:
Reboot ur PC/ Laptop.
If this Doesn't help - Then add in a reboot for the TYTN 2 also.
The problem will go away for some time.
I know its annoying, but this is way faster than troubleshooting for contacting MicroShaft Support.

Unfortunately this is no soution for me. I seem to have this problem as well, since about two weeks.
I use two notebooks (Dell & Acer) and both do not show any activity when connecting my Kaiser to the original USB cable. The device is not even switched on when I connect it, nor does this happen when I connect it to the (original) cable in my car, which did work before.
Charging works fine, both in the car and when connected to both notebooks, but no Sync at all.
I have tried another USB-cable with the same result, so I suspect some hardware-problem causing me to be unable to copy files between my notebook and my phone and worse, rendering me unable to flash a new ROM onto it.
Who knows what to do next?
I am mystified, too. USB Charging and audio connections work. I have rebooted my computer and done a soft reset on my phone several times, to no effect. I uninstalled and reinstalled Windows Mobile Device Center. Still nothing at all via USB. Once, yesterday, I somehow got a Bluetooth connection long enough to sync, but haven't been able to since then. Even then, Windows Media and AudibleManager couldn't see the phone. The really weird thing is, I can see the phone connection in my Bluetooth manager, but even with all the proper boxes checked, I can't sync. When I try from my device, I get an empty progress box which disappears after a fraction of a second. When I try from my computer, it says the device is not connected, but doesn't give me any option to connect.
Would a hard reset help?
If so, would returning an unlocked AT&T Tilt to factory defaults lock it back up? And what do I do if it does?
Please help!
J. Georgia
I have had similar problems with my touch pro in the past, even bluetooth internet sharing eventually gave up the ghost.
I tried a myriad of leads and then eventually reinstalled active sync- which did the trick.

I've had the same problem with my first Tilt. There's multiple threads that detail this known problem. Some seem to be due to bent pins, some are general hardware failures (possibly the USB controller). There are some HardSPL images out there that have a "force usb" option enabled. This never worked for me, but it might be worth a shot for you.
...a word of warning....
If you end up reflashing your phone (via MicroSD) and the flash goes bad, you may be stuck, as many of the solutions for repairing a bad flash require you to USB sync. My first Tilt was a victim of this after a bad stock ROM flash that left my device without audio, and unable to flash via MicroSD.
replace usb board
you need to replace your usb board. It will run you less than $10 if you do it yourself. you can get the board on ebay
really? 4 years later?
Hello everyone,
I'm having a problem with my Diamond. When I attach it to a USB port nothing happens. No 'hardware found sound' or what so ever.
I tried several other pc's with no result. It does charge when it is connected and the phone asks whether it needs to be in USB mass storage mode or in Active sync mode. I havent found anyone with the same problem so I'm afraid it is a hardware failure?
I tried:
-Soft/Hard reset
-Several computers/usb ports
-Disable Advanced Network capabilities
Does anyone have some tips that I haven't tried already that could help me out?
Thanks for your time!!
Disable Advanced Network capabilities under USB->PC in your Settings, that should do it.
I tried that also. With no result yet. Any other tips maybe?
First, check your cable for any marks that resemble rabbit bite marks or alligator bite marks.
No, seriously, check the points where the cable goes into the plugs for any obvious signs of damage, then check the cable itself.
Maybe, try using a different cable, if that doesn't work your Diamond most likely has a problem. If the different cable works, your cable is a goner.
Although I think there's quite a small chance that that's it, it's worth trying, right?
Use the 6.1 version of the Windows Mobile Device Center under Vista
Thx for all the tips. I didn't manage to get it working though
When the phone is connected to the charger it asks if I want to use activesync or usb mass storage. A friend of mine has also a diamond and his doesn't ask this. My conclusion is that it is broken
Damn I got this phone as a replacement for my broken K850i from my provider...They will go crazy when they see me again
Hi,
I have the same problem.
My guess is that it all started with a non compatible charger.
When charging it asked for active sync or disk.
After that the problems started, active sync doesn't work anymore.
Sometimes it workes when advanved networking is off.
Tested on different pc's, freshly installed.
Complete factory settings, notting works.
If synchronised by bluetooth it works.
I'm affraid i have to send the phone back for repairs and trow away the bad charger.
I never used a 3rd party charger.
Is there a way to update the firmware via bluetooth?? Because i'm still using the old slow version...
Same problem here. I've used my tomtom USB car charger. Is this a guarante matter, or do i have to pay for the repair?
You may have set the default connection to other than ActiveSync when first seeing the pop-up.
Go to 'Settings' 'Connections' and select 'USB to PC'.
Ensure ActiveSync is selected.
If you want the pop-up to display when the USB is connected (its good when you want to use your internal micro-SD as a memory stick), check the box at the bottom. You can select ActiveSync, Memory or PC Modem from when it appears on connection but when you just ignore it, it will perform whatever default selection you wanted last and then dissappear.
If all else fails perform a hard reset!
I've tried /soft/hard reset. No luck..
Can this be a hardware related fault, or could a ROM flash resolve the problem?
Transfering video files via BT is a pain in the a*s...
i would try a flash before returning it. You can probably dl an official 1.93.xxx.xx from htc and try that. You don't need hard spl and all that for those ROMs.
I have the same problem:
no connection at all from the PC-side. The Diamond comes up with the ActiveSync/Discdrive question and starts charging, but nothing else.
I did use external chargers that also trigger the ActiveSync/Discdrive question.
Update:
Oops, it seems fixed after a soft reset.
Same problem, diamond would not connect to PC.
Solution: Warranty repair---> they changed the motherboard, and everythings is good. Everything was free.
Edit: But now I have a different problem. I connect diamond in to PC, everything is good, but about 30 seconds after, mobile center looses the diamond, and sync won't work. Any solutions?
I have the same problem before. My Diamond USB cannot be recognised by the PC. Took back to repair and now working. But one PC still cannot recognize the diamond. The service centre told me they have reset my unit and when came back, everything has been cleared. I suspected a full reprogram of the ROM.
I have the same problem
I cant have any connection to the PC
so, no solution but the service people
USB Connection ERROR
I have the same problem. No computer seems to be able to connect to my P3700. I tried DL new ROM but I don`t know where my device came from. On HTC site from HK, which is the only one where I found a neutral Diamond with no carrier associated like, Sprint , Telus, or the like, its says The ROM Code can only be updated on HTC Touch Diamond Hong Kong English Version Device
Does anybody have a clue how to find out where my device was originally intended to be marketed? My ROM is 1.93.456.2 WWE dated July-10-2008? Do the the numbers 456.2 mean anything?
Help is highly appreciated!!

Won't sync with PC
Hi,
I have the same thing where it won't sync with any PC and i've tried all the "other" fixes and I've sent it to the service people to have a look.
Thing is, because I thought it was an issue with the usb connector I thought I would have a poke around with it myself and i could see one of the prongs looked like it wasn't making contact. To cut a long story short whilst i was trying to fix it the plastic tab in the mini usb connector came out completely
Service people are now saying that I've abused the handset and want to charge me £70 to fix it. Now to be fair, I have made it worse, but in my defense it was only because a fault had occurred that I started to dabble.
I also reported to the service people that the led light under the "end call" button had stopped working completely. This was definiatley not due to miss use.
I'm wondering if this led is on the motherboard like the usb connector is. If so, can i be cheeky and just ask them to fix the led and not the usb? but by default because the m/b would be swapped out then the usb would be fixed anyway?
If you looked at my phone it looks well cared for (which it was!!!) and its not like I've hammered it in anyway.
Anyone have an opinion or know if the led for end call and the usb port are both on the motherboard?
Thanks
hi,
I think my cable or port on my diamond is a little screwed, active sync stopped working just a week after I got the phone.
I posted the problem here:
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/...c502e361-e0e4-4d26-9ead-7f2680ff160e/?lc=1033
I got Nothing so far. I did all the active sync troubleshooting I could when I noticed that when I charged my phone, the dialog to choose active sync or disk driver shows up!!? As if i plugged it into a pc, also I do plug is into any ANY pc as a Disk Drive, it doesn't work at all.
IOW.. when I connect my phone to *charge* a dialog shows up asking me whether I want Active Sync or Disk Drive as if i connected it to my PC. Nothing happens after that, and it will not connect to active sync or disk drive to ANY Pc (tried multiple pcs).
What could the problem be? Should I try htc tech support?
Please help, this phone is only a month old!
Thanks so much
Gideon
Ok.....I'm not sure what you're trying to say. What's the message you get on your screen when you connect your phone to the pc via activesync?
I'm sorry, I was freaking out just a little while writing that. I rephrased some of it.
I get the same dialog "Active Sync or Disk Drive" when I connect it to my PC, but nothing happens after that, and it doesn't work on any pc at all. And its driving me nuts, to send a file to my phone from my desktop(my main computer) I have to connect it to my laptop via a lan wire, then send the file over there, and send it from the laptop via WiFi to the phone! ! =X
Oh btw, I've also tried other mini USB cables. Same thing.
Thanks so much
Gideon
What version of activesync are you running? Download the latest version from here. Activesync runs on all OS versions from Win 2000 SP4 upto XP SP3. If you have Vista installed on your machine try this link.
Would you be able to paste a screen shot of the error message and the dialog box?
I use the latest 4.5, but that does'nt seem to be the problem.
It doesn't work as a Disk Drive on ANY computer? There isn't any message or error, on the phone I get the dialog "Connect To Pc" dialog, I choose DISK DRIVE but it doesn'nt work, not on MY pc not on ANY PC!! ='( And just nothing happens.
I've given up on active sync, i've read every post here on xda and elsewhere, I simple can't get it working, I don't have active sync on my pc now. On my laptop with *Vista* however, the windows mobile device center manages to connect and sync with my phone via *bluetooth* only
Thanks so much.
Gideon
Take out the memory card from your phone before connecting it to activesync and try again. Tell me what happens.

You cant take out the diamond's memory, it's build in internal memory m8, not like the touch pro's microsd or anything so he wouldnt be able to try/ do that
I've had active sync problems as well, I normally find it's simply the sh*tti microsoft OS's/ programme's problem & if you re-install or update the active sync prog or windows mobile centre if your using vista, it then see's the diamond again no problems & let's you then set it up correctly, so I'd try all that 1st before you go phoning htc or your carrier to complain m8
Had the exact same problem with my Diamond.
The fix was; return to reseller/change of mainboard in the phone.
A known problem with some Diamonds according to the technician who did the repair.
Humm, I ran into a similar problem with my Diamond when I bought it less then a week ago. Nothing happened when I connected the with the bundled cable though it did work at first. So I took a normal one (from the ps3 controller to be exact) and it worked fine, I've not messed with the bundled cable since.
Solution for me
Hi,
I had this exact problem, wouldn't sync with any PC/laptop tried all the active sync's and tried all the options in there. Also tried multiple cables and still no joy.
This needs sending to HTC for them to fix. Go here:
http://service.europe.htc.com/Tracking.aspx and book it in for repair.
This is a known fault that happens with these phones and they fix it without charge.
However, don't be like me and try and fix it yourself, otherwise you'll be £70 lighter. I thought one of the mini usb prongs wasn't making contact (as it still charged ok) and after messing about the little plastic in the mini usb port came out. HTC said I damaged it and so had to pay for repair. If I had just left it alone they would have fixed it.
Also when they fix it they should load on for you Rom 1.93 which I'm finding is making the phone so much better. Its worth the money I've had to pay just for that TBO its soooo much slicker now.
The reason why this fault has developed (that some people have said) is that some car chargers are delivering too much power for the port especially when plugged into the car charger and then starting your car. I've seen that the normal charger delivers 5 volts and 1 amp so i've bought a car charger that does the same volts/amps from here:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.688~r.53733725
I've used it once and it hasn't fried my Diamond yet. (it did however come up asking to activesync or usb drive when it was plugged in unlike the standard charger which doesn't prompt at all)
You also buy the official car charger which is more £££
You'll be without your phone for a week at least and you'll have to install your apps on it again.
Hope that helps
Hi,
I know this is an old thread, but thought i would add what i found as google brings this thread up when you search for this issue. I read through the solutions and through i would remove and reinstall mobile device centre. I found it had gone! Dont know why. I didnt uninstall it and havent ran a system restore etc. Anyway i reinstalled it and problem solved I think Bluetooth might have also been interfering.
Hey there
My phone has been connecting perfectly fine since I got it about a year ago right up to a couple of days ago.
I've just changed my contract and wanted to unlock the phone. However, before I could even go about doing I discovered that my computer (Vista 32bit) was no longer recognising the phone.
When I plug it in it does charge but the computer gives no reaction. Even when I put the Kaiser into bootloader it still says Serial instead of USB.
I have tried disabling enhanced network functionalities on the phone, I have reinstalled Windows Mobile Device Center, I have hard reset the Kaiser, I have used multiple USB cables and multiple USB ports (all of which work with other devices).
As a result of the hard reset I have now lost the majority of my data. It's all backed up on my computer but this isn't much use when it refuses to recognise the phone!
What can I do to fix this?
Any help would be very gratefully accepted!
Cheers
McAsh
I would try it on a friends XP machine or a friends Vista machine. Try to narrow down if it is the phone or your PC , and then proceed from there.
HI!
I have the same right problem!
The only way i can do activesync is connecting the phone in activesync by bluetooth and the sincronization is fine, but i need to put HardSPL in it and i need that it can be recognized by USB connection and my Kaiser is only charging from USB, it is not being detected by the computer.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks!
had same problem
no one help, I started a thread and no replies
till today I plugged my kaiser to usb and computer recognized and synced
I was using bluetooth to sync for a couple of months
I really didn't do anything to fix this first I thought it was usb connection but it wasn't because I was able to put new rom thru the usb so connetctoin was there when the phone is in the hard reset mode. WEIRD ha
mostly these things comes down to 3 reasons
1. defect usb connector in the ppc
2. corrupt activesync install full uninstall and clearing registry of the pc should fix that
3. issue with usb port chipset drivers for on the pc
Also having a similar problem.
My computer recognizes my Kaiser as "HTC USB Sync" in the Device manager but nothing more happends. Could it yet be the phone USB connector that is broken? Also I was able to flash the rom yesterday (from bootloader).
When plugged in, my phone totally freezes and becomes available again the moment I unplug it and by then starts "connecting to host".
If I uncheck the "allow usb connections" box in WMDC the phone is workable but very juddery.
Have tried to completely uninstall WMDC and reinstall it again with no success whatsoever.
Any tips or is my only solution to buy a bluetooth-dongle?
The solution for mine is really the repair center unfortunately!
It really seems to be a hardware problem in the USB connector, i can't even change a firmware, the pda simple isn't recognized by the computer :S
Anyway thanks for the help!
Regards!
I am also having the same problem!! My question is how do you use bluetooth to sync with the activesync(not too computer saavy!!)
Check the usb connection on the phone. It may have a contact pushed over or broken
I got the same sympton.
I can get my phone to sync by pushing the USB connector harder towards the phone. Yes, it is connected already, and it is not lose, and the PC recognise it as HTC device in Device Manager, but it is just not detected by the (Vista) Windows Mobile Device Center
If I keep pushing the usb connector in (towards the phone), then it would get detected and start syncing. If I relax my hand and stop pushing, the active sync connection will drop immediately (still detected as HTC USB device in Device manager though).
Therefore, I have to keep pushing it in to have a successful sync. I don't dare to flash the firmware anymore... :-(
P.S. I am using the official O2 WM6.1 firmware, and using the original USB sync cable. I noticed that the original USB cable's connector head is a bit longer than ALL my other USB cable's connector head (the mini USB head).
Originally I didn't need to do the push in for the phone to get recongised, so I figure it is some sort of wear and tear on the phone's connector... :-( This does put me off in purchasing another HTC phone, because the new one is likely to suffer from the same wear and tear...
btw, before the connector got that bad, when it was connected but not synchronising, I could get it to sync just by launching Windows mobile device center (which is a different program than sync center in vista); and of course, when it was all brand new, I just need to connect the phone to the PC via the USB cable, and everything happened automatically...
I am trying to flash my first rom and the computer would not detect the phone. Took a look at the female mini USB socket on the phone and the 3rd pin out of 5 was much lower. Took a tiny screw driver and pushed it up and I got success. Its a little sensitive but if you dont touch the phone it will work fine.
Good luck
Jason
HI gdarrenc!
The way to sync it via Bluetooth is when you open the activesync in your pda, in the options menu you have the option to sync via bluetooth
Regards!
possible solution if feeling brave
My hotsync failed a few days ago, did the usual searches and posting on here with no joy and then did a google search for a picture of the mini usbport.
on inspection of mine in comparison i noticed the two leftmost pins were down to the point they were in the sticky out black bit so with a pair of my wifes best precision tweazers i flexed the black bit down slightly and slid the tweazers to the right lifting them up slightly. as soon as retested it is now working again.
NOTE BE VERY VERY GENTLE WHEN DOING THIS - DO NOT USE ANY FORCE
my guess is this is due to an ill fitting usb cable as mine had a certain degree of up and down flex when connected.
hope this helps someone.
I am also having issues with pc-htc connection.
But, this happened when I pulled the usb out of the phone with my leg.
Now, I squezzed usb head a little, and it works fine.
Hello everyone. So I have a little problem over here, not even sure if it's a little one. So like 2 months back I decided to dissasemble my htc in order to change the camera as the previous one had purple tint and change my housing from white to red. I have done everything right now, I've been waiting for all those parts for these two months, replaced my camera, housing, UI board as I destroyed the camera socket of the old one and everything works pretty much, still got an issue with buzzing speaker even though it's a new one, but I'll find a way out. What bothering me now is that I cannot get my HTC recognized by PC. I'm not sure how I fixed my USB problems earlier, I had a lot of them until I found some drivers or something. So now I experience this problem that when I connect my HTC to the front socket it clearly doesn't make any signs of being recognized, but it still charges. When I connect it to one of the back sockets, PC makes a 'ding' sound that a USB device is connected. Although I cannot see any devices on my PC. I tried fastboot, PC can't find the device either, tired ADB in recovery, but it's loading forever, not sure if it should be that way. So after this long journey, USB is the only problem I'm facing. Could it be drivers or something else? As the phone charges whenever I connect it to a power source, it charges. One thing I noticed that no matter where I connect it, USB or wall socket it always says 'IF HTC Sync Manager installer doesn't automatically start, run it from CD-ROM drive on your PC' along with slow charge warning. Please help me.
Windows 8, or 7? Did the USB connection work perfectly before the disassembly?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
It's W7. I can't remember but I remember I had problems getting those drivers and all to work.
Probably not the issue in your case, but two of my friends had USB connectivity errors on W7 64bit SP1 - both HTC Ones.
The issues were malwares (iLivid & others) - after running malwarebytes and removing all the stuff (more than 1000 objects/scan) USB connectivity started working again.
Might worth a shot. Oh, and both had Antivirus (Nod32) running
Thanks, I'll try this. I got iLivid and some other bull**** auto installed on my pc.
oh my god, removed ilivid and other bull**** malwares and not it's working again, never thought of this, thanks!
