Just some minor niggles with WM5 left so far...
1) All wm5 ringtones seem to be .WAV, doesn't seem to support WMA any more. Does anyone have a fix / free software I can use to let me use WMA or MP3 or OGG or anything apart from WAV ?
2) Today themes - does anyone know how to make your own ? I see nothing to change them, it seems to have changed from 2003 ?
TIA
Loving WM5, so much more stable !
The only files that need to be WAV are incoming text alerts i think..
For ringtones.. copying MP3, WMA or any other supported format of Wmplayer into \Windows\Ringtones should show up in your ringtone selection.
ah - I was trying to use the "Add Ringtones" in the setup menu
what a dufus - thanks
Hi
I have a QTEK 2020i and I don't find a way to setup a mp3 ringtone.
If in file explorer I found a .wav or .mid I can open the shortcut menu and there is an option "Set as Ringtone". But with a mp3 file such option doesn't appear.
Also on Start/Settings/System/Add Ring Tone, mp3 files are not listed.
I finally tried to copy a mp3 file into \windows\rings directory.
The file appears in Start/Settings/Personal/Phone but doesn't play.
How can I set a mp3 file as a ringtone?
My regards
Ruka
use file explorer and navigate to Windows>Rings and drop ur mp3 into there
Hi
As I wrote on my first post, I've already tried that solution.
If I copy a mp3 file to windows\rings, it will appear as a ringtone (in Phone in Settings), but if I select it, it is rejected (it won't play, and when I press ok it will revert to Windows default ringtone).
I've seen on other posts that other people can setup a mp3 ringtone, but I can't. I wonder if it is some additional software release by some mobile phone company.
My regards
R.
hope this will help you.....
Don't work
Sorry.
Download and install then on the 2020i.
Even tried with a reset.
Nothing changes. Still can't set a mp3 file as a ringtone.
Where did you get these files: they say Helmi Mp3 RingTones.
Is there a site where I can check if there is another version of them?
Thanks anyway
Use a registry editor, then locate:
1) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp3 - Default = WMAFile
2) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMAFile\DefaultIcon - Default = wmplayer.exe,-2001
3) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMAFile\Shell\Open\command - Default = wmplayer.exe "%1"
It worked!!!
Actually I only had to change the first registry setting, (.mp3 - Default = WMAPlayer).
The other two settings were already there!!
And it worked!!!
I have PocketMusic installed and the .mp3 default setting pointed to it.
I always wonder why if those equipment could support mp3, why I couldn't set one as a ringtone.
The only thing that is still different (from the .wav or .mid files), although not important at all for me, is that I still don't have the "set as a ringtone" in the shortcut menu when I click on a mp3 file. I guess that via registry that could also be set.
Thank you very much
Ruka
Done that too!!!
Hi
I search the registry for the string "Set as ringtone"
and found it at
HKCR\wavfile\Shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{E88B4 ... }
with the values:
Default = Set as ringtone
DelayLoad = 1
Then I created the same structure inside HKCR\WMAFile.
Since
HKCR\WMAFile\Shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{E88B4... }
were already there (although witn no contents), I only had to create the values Default (as string) and DelayLoad (as number)
Thank you all again
Ruka
Is it possible to have Ogg files as ringtones ?
u can set mp4 files as ring tones.
i converted my fav mp3 to mp4 using nero wave editor.
copy the your_music.mp4 to any folder and right click set as ring-tone
it'll tell u that it has copied your music to the windows\rings folder
and thats it :d
i don't even have settings-syste-set as ringtone and i can use my wav music only with sms not with incoming call, help?

this worked great even with TCPMP assigned to mp3... thx!
okay so this broke again... solution was not change .mp3 to wmafile but look down for registry key "wmafile" and there is "shellex" key or something. I've copied that key to "mp3file" key and so it works with whatever association.
Hi bro
how to set mp3 as ringtone at dopod 838?
did they must installed some software for that ?
just point a second your stylus on one MP3 file. and there is another pop will apear then click set ringtone. hope its help
what I do is install this: http://www.freewareppc.com/communication/phoneprofiles.shtml
then I copy the mp3 files I want to use as ringtone to \windows
in the phoneprofile app, i then just choose the ringtone.
I can't assign mp3's as ringtones anymore for some reason.
They used to work, but now Windows doesn't allow me to even select them from the list of all available ringtones (they are listed, but when selecting them and pressing "ok", Windows automatically selects the next song from the list, which is in mwa format)
When I convert my mp3's to mwa, they can be played.
No one having the same kind of problems?
I can't set mp3's as ringtones or sms-sound. But I can play those same mp3's with AudioManager, with Mediaplayer, TCPMP and with Gsplayer.
Wav and mwa files can still be used (lucky me)
Is there perhaps a default player or some setting in the register that points to a default player that needs adjustment?
Had same problem before
I also experienced this problem before. I found out that in order for mp3's to work as ringtones, they had to be associated with windows media player. To fix this, go to GSPlayer, TCPMP, and any other media player you have, go to their respective settings, and uncheck Mp3 as a file association. Your mp3 ringtone should work now.
I have my mp3s associated with tcpmp and can assign them as a ringtone just fine. Not sure how you are assigning them, but this is how I do it.
Open file explorer, browse to mp3s, click-hold the mp3 I want as ringtone, choose "set as ringtone" from the context menu.

Ahh, thanks a lot. That seems to be it!
At least I was thinking in the good direction with that default player

This is exactly what I did when I had the same problem. Those file associations will cause you some problems.

If it works just fine with you with TCPMP, then the problem must lie with Gsplayer, since that was my default player for mp3's.
Fixing Ringtones
I had this problem and worked out how to fix it.
Look at the following Reg Key (change midifile to mp3file for mp3 issues)
Delete any EventSoundHandlers already in place and add this Key.
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\midifile\Shellex\EventSoundHandlers\{245F94CF-DD9C-46F9-B4C8-D2B14A877893}]
@="XME EventSound Player"
Problem fixed.

This is driving me mad! For the life of me my Kaiser won't let me change the phone's ringtone from the standard. When I open an MP3 in audiomanager then choose set as ringtone, I get the error message "there was an error copying the ring tone to \my documents\ my ringtones. The ringtone could not be set. Please verify you have enough room on your device and try again", i've even tried manually copying mp3's to the \my ringtones directory, I can view them but they don't play in the ringtone selection screen (they play OK in audiomanager), even if I select a different mp3 in the sounds and notifications screen and select OK, my kaiser defaults automatically back to the standard ringtone. Oh, there's loads of space free as well - about 47mb.
Any ideas?
mp3 extension
Did you change the program for the .mp3 extension?
I noticed the same behaviour when I assigned the mp3 extensions to MortPlayer:
my ringtone would revert back to the default and choosing the mp3 ringtone wouldn't work.
After unchecking the mp3 extension within MortPlayer, I could choose a mp3 ringtone again.
Thanks a lot dude - will give this a go.
