Just some minor niggles with WM5 left so far...
1) All wm5 ringtones seem to be .WAV, doesn't seem to support WMA any more. Does anyone have a fix / free software I can use to let me use WMA or MP3 or OGG or anything apart from WAV ?
2) Today themes - does anyone know how to make your own ? I see nothing to change them, it seems to have changed from 2003 ?
TIA
Loving WM5, so much more stable !
The only files that need to be WAV are incoming text alerts i think..
For ringtones.. copying MP3, WMA or any other supported format of Wmplayer into \Windows\Ringtones should show up in your ringtone selection.
ah - I was trying to use the "Add Ringtones" in the setup menu
what a dufus - thanks

Ok, I was wondering if anyone else was having a problem using midi ring/event sounds in the recently released AKU 3.3 with Crossbow enhancements ROM. Most of my midi ringtones don't play at all and those that do are horribly distorted. I don't think it's a hardware problem since Windows Media Player and CorePlayer (the commercial version not the included one since it doesn't play midi's at all). Almost all of my personalized per contact ringer id's are midi's so this is a major problem for me.
Other than this problem I'm really loving this ROM, kudos to Faria and everyone else who worked on this ROM ^_^
I too have that problem.
I'm using that WWE release WM6 ROM, and my .mid ringtones won't play.
Usually I'm using .mp3 tunes, but now I got my service providers sound theme, and I want to use it, bot no chance in hell...
What to do? :-S
i have no idea who on earth would use MIDI ringtones over MP3
Thats like going back to wooden spoons

Truthfully I use .m4a (Nero Digital AAC) @ .15 quality for my 'real' song ringtones but there are some songs with somewhat explicit lyrics that I'd rather use midi's for. I'll probably be doing a bit of music editing when I wake up later today to make some more ringtones if I don't find a fix for this...
I had the same problem with midi ringtones, and did some search, then found this.

On that page, you search for "patch", download it and install on your device.
Although we use differen ROM, it should work for you too.
Good luck
Anox.
I tried searching and did not see a similar topic, so I am posting this new one.
I have tried to move a ringtone to \windows\rings
I have tried to adapt the registry setting to change the ring directory to a different place
I have confirmed that I am using the Ring option for the Ring Type, as opposed to Vibrate or any of the other settings under the settings-->phone menu--I do see the ring tone options and have tried the windows ones as well
Any other suggestions I can try to enable ringing?
i put my ring tones in ram disk.(wave files)
Thank you for your reply. I tried to switch my ringtone folder to Storage Card and RamDisk--though the ringtones appeared as options, they would not play when the phone rang.
Are there other things I can try?
i just put ring tone in ram folder.
not ring tone folder in ram.and used wav file.not mp3.

what media type is your ringtone? wav, mp3, wma? all of these types can be used when located in \windows, \windows\rings, \Ramdisk root & \Storage Card root.
may i suggest trying out one of the default PPC ringtones if it plays when moved into any of the directories above.

I tried moving copies of the files into the folders you mentioned--it showed the duplicates as options for the ringtones, but unfortunately did not work. I used the oldphone.wav. Any other ideas?

thought you whould have change the name a little
like putting a 1 in front of the tone name.
I just ended up reinstalling the ROM. Not sure what the cause was... as I uninstalled everything I added... Oh well... all is good now...
What i would like to know is...
1) Can you store the sound files you use for SMS & MMS etc in anothor place than the "windows" directory (ie SD card)? Is it a reg fix?
2) Obviously WM6 supports WAV and WMA for this feature, is there a way to support MP3?
Maybe both these can be fixed with a program?

PS Thanks in advance!
A little Bump
been using mightyrom impact for a while. the os is wm 6.5.3.
i find that mp3 or wma ringtones for incoming calls work just fine until you launch wmplayer. once the wmplayer is launched, any mp3 or wma ringtones for incoming calls fail to work.
If you go to phone-menu-option-sounds, you'll find that when a wma file is selected, it shows "the file is either interrupted or unavailable"; when an mp3 file is select, it plays no sound...
the only way to make them work again is to do a soft reset.
those problem will not happen if you choose a wav file.
what's more, the htcvolumecontrol.dll is updated to 2.1.1922, the former version built in the previous taskbar.cab fail to work. when you press the volume keys, all you get is the original ugly control interface.
bugs also take place when using G-Alarm. it makes no sound when wmplayer is launched.
