Does Sprite Backup, backup your contacts? I'm not sure of your contacts are stored in the WM6 File system or not anyway. If Sprite Backup doesnt backup your contacts can anyone recommend a way of doing this as I have to many to store on the SIM card so i store them in the phone.
(I did search the forum for this but nothing of use came up)
Here is an easier method with no applications needed.
go to my device and copy the pim file using file explorer and when you do need to get your contacts back, simply copy the pim file back under my device.
If I flash my kaiser rom with a newer one will I lose my contacts, and just need to copy this file back or do my contacts remain untouched?
your contacts will remain the way it was when you copy it.
HUH? So i do need to back them up before I flash the rom or not?

Here is also a good idea. If you have Windows Outlook just sync your phone with that and it will place all of your contacts in outlook. That way when you flash to a ROM of your choice you will always have your contacts saved. That's what I do.

copy pim to storage card and paste it back to my device with your new rom flash.
yes, sprite does back-up your contacts if you specify in it's setting.
but for backing up just the contacts (as my fail-safe plan), i have always used a tiny app called PPCBackupContacts v1.6 authored by the great dotfred which can be found in this forum. it had always worked perfectly 100% each time. you can even select delete all contacts from it and restore the whole database again whenever you please to avoid duplicate contacts when restoring.
i hope this works for you too.

to avoid the shared file error. how do u paste back the copy of the pim file? Pim is locked whenever the phone is on and I can't delete it
I like PIM Backup as well. I use it not only to backup my contacts, but also my call history, ringtones, alarms, and various other custom files and folders. That way, when I flash a new ROM or do a hard reset, I just install my software and then use PIM Backup to restore all my customizations. It's great! And it'll do scheduled backups, so I get a nightly backup without even thinking about it.

How can I export my contacts to be imported again later? Does the gmail sync only work one way? I.e. from your gmail account to your phone and not the other way around?
There is a built-in import-export tool available in the menu in contacts.
It exports contacts to sd card.

What about the google sync question?
Just checked and it synced from phone to google
Sent from The Dark Captivate
Google sync is two way and I can't get the SD Card Export feature to work properly. Importing the resulting csv gives me a parse error
The only option I can see under import/export in the contacts menu is 'send namecard via'. I don't see the import option.
I have a csv file that I need to import, and I don't want to sync with gmail, any ideas? Thanks
Well I figured how to import contacts (not sync) without going through gmail. I know most of the users sync with gmail but in case you don't want to here's one way to do it on Windows. Eventually you'll need a single vCards (.vcf) file. If you can't export into vcf files from Outlook or whatever source you can do this:
-export contacts into a CSV file
-import into Windows contacts
-export into vCards (vcf files)
-combine all vcf files into 1 (in the command line navigate to the folder where your vcf files are and run this: "copy *.vcf allcontacts.vcf")
-copy the merged file allcontacts.vcf to your phone
-delete your phone contacts
-click on allcontacts.vcf to import the contacts to your phone
I'll be doing this until they come up with a sync tool over usb or bluetooth.
I have a vcf file from an old phone that I want to import. I mounted the phone as a mass storage device on my ubuntu box. Where should I put the file so that the contacts program can find it?
Thanks for any help!

Just stick it on your external sd (if you are using one) or the root of your internal mem.
Thanks zelendel. I'm actually so noob at this phone that I haven't quite learned how to use the UI very efficiently yet. I found the 'import' option for the contacts program, and that let me import my vcf file (which i put into the root of the phone since I don't have an external sd card yet). Again, thanks.
This is the way I do:
Backup "contacts storage" in TiBu. Save this backup in a safe place.
This I use to restore all contacts intact whenever I flash any new ROM. This restores "favorite contacts" too.
Put in the internal card the import should see the file. The other option is to go to the file via astro and select it will ask where to import
I have used TiBu and it works great
But I also sync with my GMail. I was bored one day so I actually went into my contacts on my lappy and updated everything in my contacts folder. And when I flash a new ROM all I do is log into my GMail and Sync. and POOF! Everything comes back up like nothing ever happened.
Also if you go into Contacts --> Settings --> Save New Contacts and set it to GMail or Google (Which ever it says) it will keep everything up to date and there is no need to backup.
Hope that helps
In my last few ROM updates I had problems with my contacts. I would export them menu>import/export>export to SD card, and then import them. However the contacts then would be all screwed up. Choosing a contact would bring up an entirely different contact. Moreover I found that I couldn't even correct it by hand. Even if I'd manually change the name and number, it would still decide to show me a completely different contact than the one I had chosen. SYncing with google seemed to make the process even more confusing.
So the last ROM update, I ended up starting from scratch and typing in all my contacts manually.
Before flashing another ROM I'd like to know if backing up the actual Contacts app (w/data) in Titanium would save all of my phone contact information.
I don't believe it does. I keep my contacts backed up in my google account. Every ROM I install syncs with my google account automatically and pulls my contacts to my phone
Titanium backup does backup contacts.
Just remember to backup "CONTACTS STORAGE" not "CONTACTS".
All contacts info is stored in contacts storage.

I am not sure of that. But contacts storage does restore contacts and favorites.
I am not sure of SMS groups. Maybe u should see for some file related to messaging app, or for sms storage.
Edit:
I just checked through TiBu. There are two entries:
1. [sms/MMS PREFS] Messaging 2.2.1 and
2. OMACP 1.0
Create a test group, backing these up, then delete one of ur groups, and try restoring back to see if these are the files that need to be backed up.
Please post ur outcome of we can all know if that works.

HI there
i recently restored my phone after flashing a different rom. everything went well and i restored almost everything using titanium backup. i clicked for "install missing apps and data" but unfortunately i could not restore my phone contacts. my contacts are also not synced with gmail. please help?
Did you click on the button in the top middle to bring up the list of programs, and restore contacts then reboot?(assuming you backed it up of course). Cause all it sounds like you did was that batch restore of MISSING apps. The contacts.apk was included so it didn't get restored.
i'm curious about this too. I dont need to restore my contacts but I've installed custom roms for a few friends who didnt have their contacts sync'd with gmail and after restoring what I thought was the contacts, it didnt actually restore.
so I've had this problem before, too. I'm curious to hear from someone who successfully restored phone contacts from TiBu.
Always sync your contacts with Google
I never used TiBu for contacts or calendar entries.

Not sure if this thread is dead or not but I just flashed my brother's phone and used TiBu to restore missing apps + data. For contacts I tried restoring [Contacts/Calls] Storage 2.2, rebooted and still nothing. I dont know what else can I do now. Is there any way I can pull the information out manually from TiBu backup files? I opened com.android.providers.contacts-20110625-144656.tar.gz and noticed the raw data is in the files. Any ideas would be helpful....
Thanks!

Did he sync contacts with his Google account? If so sign into Gmail from the phone and sync. I use the Backup with Gmail from the market to backup calls and texts too. All of my call history, contacts, and texts are synching with my Gmail, works great.

Restart the phone after restoring apps and system data.
When it comes to backing up my contact list I'm Old School. I still do it the same way I did on my Palm OS device. Export to a vCard file (*.vcf). Since android still has that feature I occasionally make a backup of my contacts as a *.vcf and copy it to my SD card, PC or dropbox. However, after reading this post I gave it a try and successfully restored my contacts, txt messages, call logs etc with TiBu. After a restore (I was able to confirm that the 'Restore missing apps + all system data' batch restore will restore your contacts etc. However they don't show in your contact list after a restore. You can try to force close the Contacts and Contact storage from the 'Manage Applications' -> 'Running' screen, and when you restart your contacts after that they should appear. However tried and true method is the simplest.
=> Do a Re-boot.
I tried it successfully four times and doing a restart of the phone worked the best, smoothest and easiest. Then all my contacts were successfully restored.
I performed this on a I897 running FireFly 3.0.2.2 (Froyo based ROM) I used the latest version of TiBu 3.9.0.1 free version and made sure that busybox was updated to 1.18.4
If you're worried about TiBu not working, exporting your contacts to a *.vcf file does give you a nice file that you can then import natively into Android and most other mobile OS. (I've personally verified that *.vcf works on Pantech and Lg messaging phones, Palm OS, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Thunderbird, Outlook)

Yea, don't use TiBU to restore any system apps like contacts or messaging ESPECIALLY when changing roms/android os versions.
I would recommend backing up ur contacts to your google account. Also, see if u can find a .vcf file in your TiBU backup
Hi, I backed up E-mail 1.0 and Email 2.0 (the default email client and the lg Widget) with Titanium backup, then uninstalled them, because I was trying to find the cause of some battery loss problem...
The problem is that Titanium Backup doesn't restore the E-mail Client or the LG widget once deleted... it just stays on restoring screen...
Could someone provide the files to copy to /system/app to restore those two services? Or maybe there is another way?
As a last resort I could restore to factory settings but that means a full system reinstall and I wouldn't go that far!

Thank you for the package, I tried to copy the .apk and .obex files to system/data/ set full permissions, but still no go... I use v10E???!?!
I reinstalled the whole phone... Thank you nonetheless!
