Need some help - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

I'm completely new to all of this....so forgive me if I posted this in the wrong spot, or the answer is posted somewhere (I already looked around for the answers, and didn't find them).
I want to upgrade my Blue Angel to the new ROM....and there are a couple things in the instructions that I don't understand how to do:
1) "Resize your Extended ROM to 128KB and your Storage ROM to 60MB. You will use your SD card as a replacement for your EXTROM."
2) "Modify the operator in the ROM as needed:
* Determine your operator Information e.g.: "T-MOB101", or "Vodafone", or O2. See GetDeviceData.
* Open a command prompt, go to the folder where the ROM file resides (nk.nbf) and execute: SetOperator ???"
With the second one, I've already used GetDeviceData to find out that my operator is "XGULA001".
Edit: Another question that I have.....is Windows Media Player 9 included on this when I install the ROM? (if not, will I be able to install it later?)

Please someone answer, I know that someone has to know how to do this.
1. Modify the operator in the ROM as needed
Open a command window and execute: SetOperator ????
- Replace ???? with your Operator Information
- i.e.: T-MOB101, or Vodafone, or O2, or ...
I have no idea what I'm suppost to do, but I do know what my operator is.

read section 'How do I find out what my device configuration is before upgrading?'
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_GettingStarted
download and extract the file i uploaded, copy nk.nbf over the extracted director. launch your dos prompt, nagivate to the extracted directory, and run SetOperator.bat.
example: SetOperator.bat O2ASI001
where O2ASI001 is the operator code.
hope it works.

Thanks, thats the program that I needed......but now I have another problem.
When my BA is in bootloader mode, I can't update because the updater doesn't recognize the BA. When I try updating out of bootloader mode, the updater recognizes it at first..,...but when I start the update it goes into bootloader mode again, and it stops recognizing the BA so it can't update.
What can I do to solve this problem?

what error did u get?

Remove SD Card
Make sure you remove your SD card before you start the flash program. I have noticed the same problem if my 4gb SD card is still in the slot. After upgrading, you return the SD card in the slot and reset the device so the EXT-ROM directory can be read.

Thanks, that fixed the problem.....but now I have yet another problem.
The phone won't work, and I can't connect to my operator.....how do I connect to my operator? (My operator isn't listed anywhere on the BA)

HELP! What is my country ID???

OK, I have a Cingular SX66, I flashed it using the WWE Versions With Arabic Customizing WITHOUT the ExtROM, meaning I kept the Cingular ExtROM, no problem, flashed find.
After that, I flashed the RadioROM 1.06.02 ALONE, and right now, when I hard reset, it says NO GSM, in other words, it became a PDA only, phone function is no longer avaiable. I tried to flash other i-Mate ROMs, but it keep says Country ID is not correct, N-N-12-12-12. I ran GetDeviceData.exe, it comes out like this:
PH20B1 B 1 WWE E 1.31.00 0 0 1.31.112
So now, what is my country ID so that I can use the xda3nbftool.exe? It used to be XGULA001, or is there a way to execute the program without checking the country code, or a ROM with no country code checking.
TIA for all of your helps!
Still looking for help, tried O2 launch ROM, wrong Mobile ID error.
BTW, this is the DeviceDate.txt, before and after:
Before:
PH20B1 B 1 WWE E XGULA001 1.20.10 1 0 1.20.115 1.02.10 02.10
After:
PH20B1 B 1 WWE E 1.31.00 0 0 1.31.112
Nevermind, problem solved by flash another RadioROM from QTEK.
Paper weight
JRSmooth, I just saw your posts. I'm experiencing the exact same thing!!
I tried to upgrade my phone during the Christmas vacasion and haven't been able to use it ever since. The radio says FAILED during the startup sequence (which takes forever after the "upgrade")
How exactly did you fix it??

Well your situation maybe different from mine.
The radioROM I used was corrupted, I kind of knew it because when I flashed it, it did not show what version of radioROM am I flashing into. Now, what error message if you try to flash it again? Try to use a different radioROM from the same mfg. as your last flash.
Hope this help.
Well, it's a kind of embarrassing situation...
I've flashed my GSM device with a CDMA radio stack... It shows up as FAILED if you look at the version.
Hello,
Because your device IDs are different, eg, PH20B1 as opposed to PH20B0, you'll have to make a batch file to fix this. Here are a few instructions I threw together but REMEMBER - I take no responsibility for any damage done to your device. You are following these instructions below at your own risk!
1.) Download a full ROM upgrade file of your choice. I recommend the i-mate one in this folder here - ftp://xda:[email protected]/Imate_PDA2k_WWE_12200_162_10600_SHIP/ but feel free to use another.
2.) Extract the files from your full ROM by opening it with Winzip or Winrar and dumping it's contents into a folder. From now on it will be refered to as "your folder".
3.) Copy the file "GetDeviceData.exe" from your folder to your device and run it. It wont appear to do anything but it has!
4.) From your PC, browse to the Windows folder on your device. Copy the file "DeviceData.txt" to your folder.
5.) Open the "DeviceData.txt" file on your PC. You will see what ROMs your device has installed on it. Mine reads (without the blank/null characters):
PH20B0 B
WWE E
O2___001
1.22.00 0 0
1.22.162
1.06.00 06.00
The "PH20B0" is the device id, the "WWE" part is the country code and the "O2___001" part is the operator ID. Identify this information from YOUR "DeviceData.txt" file as your devices are different from mine and you will need this info for your upgrade. Make sure you write them down because if it's incorrect, you'll get errors and your device will hang!!!
6.) Download the file attached to this post, "Fix.zip" and extract it to your folder. Make sure you have the two files "xda3nbftool.exe" and "Fix.bat" in the root of the folder, not in a folder of it's own!
7.) Edit the file in your folder "fix.bat" using notepad (DON'T RUN IT YET). Replace the words "PH20B0" with your device ID, "WWE" with your country code and "O2___001" with your operator ID. Now, exit this file and save your changes.
8.) Run "fix.bat" from you folder. A Command promt window should appear and process the ROM files. This will change the device ID, country code and the operator ID to the ones you specified, thus allowing the upgrade to work on your device.
AT THIS STAGE, IF YOU CONTINUE, YOU WILL LOSE ALL THE DATA AND PROGRAMS ON YOUR DEVICE!!! BACKUP ALL FILES THAT YOU NEED!!!
9.) Run the "BaUpgradeUt.exe" file from your folder. This will start the upgrade process, so follow the on-screen instructions. During this you will see a screen with "From:" and "To:" showing what versions you have got to what versions you're going to. Make sure this data is correct and then continue.
10.) Once the upgrade has finished you'll be instucted to do a hard reset.
YOUR DONE - You should now have the upgraded ROM!!!
Good luck with this and let me know how you get on!
Regards,
Dom
I got a device of a friend. I'm not sure he used a wrong ROM image or the upgrade failed but it ended up with no Radio or ext ROM version in the boot screen .. only Rom 1.12.
More over, running getdevicedata.exe gives empty file with only "PH20" written there!
.. and any rom flashing gives operator id error.
my question is, can I update the Rom files to have no operator ID ?
Biso007,
In theory, you should just be able to follow my instuctions above but instead of using the standard PH20B1 or PH20B0 in the -sd switch ot the batch file, use PH20. This should allow you to continue with the upgrade process.
Regards,
Dom
Upgrading iMate PDA2k to O2 Rom

Can't write Extended Rom

I am unable to unlock the extended ROM and read and copy the data contained there but I cannot write to or modify any of the files there.
Is there anyway to unlock the flash for write operations?
Thanks
G
Cabs are read only in ext rom, change the attrib.
The xda tool has an unlock and an unhide. one is to beable to see the ext rom the other to write to it
i gave that a try, it seems that the rom is read only, I am unable to copy additional cabs to the Extended rom.
Is this a Harier device?
XDAIIs BlueAngel
Did you do a softreset after the unlock?
Yip, I also tried the same process after an O2 upgrade rom, same results
If I use the exe lock tool with -unlock I get an error
Well dont think you are using the same tool. Pop of to wiki in the kitchen under kitchen tools. Try that one, its the one I use.
I used this tool
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_ERK_Tools
The unlock tool on the top of the page
I also did a hard reset and now when I execute the cab I cant even see the Extended Rom now, I was able to see it before, I just couldnt write to it.
I found a smaller rom viewer cab, I can see the extended rom now, but I still can't write to it, it tells me the media is write protected.
Hope you meant soft reset.
Thats the correct tool, you need to unhide, softreset, unlock, softreset
The files are under programms extrom tools
nope, did a hard reset to be sure, ok so I unhide with the cab file reboot, then run the exe with a -unlock and reboot then I should be ok?
I will try again.
ok, I get ERROR: FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION - A device attached to the system is not functioning.
any ideas?
Sorry time for me to give up on you. Just to convince myself that I was telling you the correct steps i installed the tool again, softreset, did a unlock (got an write protect error) so softreset again. Thus confirming the fact you need a softreset after both actions.
"then run the exe with a -unlock "
This part a fail to understand on the tool of wiki you end up with an icon, you tap it, "no run the exe with -unlock"
So as you have a BA and not a harrier were we know you need a differwnt tool, and as you are using a tool that we know that works the only 2 conculsions I can come up with are.
1) You have a faulty device
2) you are not using the tool or the steps needed to run the tool in the correct manor.

Qtek 9090 flesh over SD Card

I have a nk.nbf + ms_.nbf + radio_.nbf. How can I write this files to my SD Card.
Tnx.
I think you need some tools:
- BaUpgradeUt.exe
- HTCRUU.dll and HTCRUU.conf
- xda3nbftool.exe
- SetOperator.bat or editfix.bat
please refer to http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM5_Home

Hope this help...
I havn't a cradle !!! I have only FLASH CARD !!! Only flash ! How I can run program from flash?
I runned a "EnterBL.exe" and now I have only "serial" text on my PDA. In my ****ing country I havn't a shop where I can by a cradle.
Whoa... calm down there. I'm not sure that you can even flash from any sort of extending memory..
Try this:
http://en.pdamobiz.com/en/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=151
in the end of 1st topic
good luck
I did see this topic. I havn't a work rom on pda How I can write flash to SD Card from PC ? And then boot.
Oh Boy,
just read the topic #1, its all in...
all you need is a PC with Card Reader, this tool : http://files.pdamobiz.com/ROMs/XDA/ntrw.rar
a Rom Dump (image) with ending *.nb1 for your Device (just search this Forum, its there)
or here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Vodafone_VPx_1.22.nb1/Vodafone_VPx_1.22.nb1
and here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_Updates/OrangeUK_1.40_ROMDump_040805.rar
and here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/DUMP_QTEK_14000_148_12000_portuguese.rar
- Download ntrw.exe
- Copy ntrw.exe to C:\
- At Dos Command Prompt goto C:
- Type - ntrw write RomDump.nb1 X:
file RomDump.nb1 is the rom name (actually you can assign any word) and X: is Drive of SD Card Reader
- Now, the Rom Image is on your Card - you don´t see it in explorer !!
( don´t format your card now, as windows ask...)
Plug your Card in the Device, go into BootLoader Mode and wait a view seconds.
The BootLoader will ask you what to do.
Flash your Rom and HardReset the Device...
Worked perfect
good luck
sorry about my english
did anybody make the tuma ROM to flash from SD card ???
OK !
Greate TNX.
Now I have a "section=3" error
I think that Land ID error. How I can patch my XDAIIs.nb1 file ?
I have a O2 XDAIIs device.
i have downloaded the portuguese rom above ,it has 2 file radio.nba and os.nba,now when a try to write them to an sd card with ntrw.exe i get thi error,{could not lock xxx.nba---access is denied}
i also have noticed that everyone refers to files extencions like nb1 where this rom comes with nba.could someone please help thank you

if someone could help me

i need to change the operator in my ROM i guess... i am trying to flash a SX66 w/ WM5 (tuma 1.4) and i cant change the thing!! if someone could please help... i would be greatful. im new to this.. i havent flashed these kinda phones b4.. thanks in advance.
let me try... i assume you have already downloaded tuma 1.4, extracted it, saved the whole folder on your c:> directory (not desktop), and renamed the said folder into "ROM". also, you have executed the application GetDeviceData and you have identified your operator value. let's say that this operator value is ???
1. using your computer, go to START > Command Prompt. Type
CD\
then type
CD\ROM\
then type
SETOPERATOR ???
where ??? is the operator value you got from GetDeviceData.
2. you wait until it's completed. then that's it! you should be ready to take the next step. as i understand it, it is important that the nk.nbf file is in that ROM folder with the SetOperator application in order to make upgrading/downgrading work.
hope this helps.
by the way, have you been successful in repartitioning using the xda3nbftool/editfix.bat? i'm getting frustrated in not having a storage of 60MB (i only have 43MB) since i don't understand how to make it work. hope there's someone who could help me.
.... and read
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel and
http://sx66-blueangel.home.comcast.net/
also you should say what you have tried and give more specific error messages. How do you expect someone to be able to help you with
.. and i cant change the thing

What I did to get WM61 and the new radio installed with no sd card.....

After searching for hours on all the files, procedures, etc. on the subject, here's a quick guide for the n00b's out there that want to do this... Some information i will be repeating from other places on the internet.
----------------------------------
The following Files are needed (search the forums and google to locate)
1. CheetahUnlocker.rar (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334100)
2. Treo750_OS5_2_19199WWE_STD.rar
3. Treo750Radio1.54.07.00.rar
4. RUUWrapper.zip
OK.. Now here we go
unrar the first file 'cheetahunlocker' and basically follow the instructions from the above #1 link. Two things to note: Ignore any images for Hermes and you must have .net 2.0 framework installed on the device.
when you run the unlocker, the first one worked fine for me, the second process didn't work, but that doesn't matter. also watch the screen for the unit to ask you about opening files. if you don't do it, it can time out and then you'll have to start over.
Now here is the fun part.
1. Unzip the RUUwrapper file to it's own folder.
2. unrar the CHEEIMG.nbh file from Treo750_OS5_2_19199WWE_STD.rar into the same directory of the RUUwrapper files
3. rename the CHEEIMG.nbh file to CHEEIMG_FW.nbh
4. run the RUUWrapper.exe file and it will flash the rom of the unit to WM61. **remember to watch the screen for prompting of opening files at the beginning.
5. Done with WM61. Now for the radio update. It's basically the same process as above.
6. unrar the CHEEIMG.nbh file from Treo750Radio1.54.07.00.rar and put it into the RUUwrapper directory like before.
7. rename the CHEEIMG.nbh file to CHEEIMG_FW.nbh (delete the old one first)
8. Run the RUUwapper.exe file again to flash (this time) the radio to the unit. **remember to watch the screen for prompting of opening files at the beginning.
9. All Done.
----------------------
It worked fine for me with the Treo 750 and the AT&T network..
Main places i got information from were:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334100
Your method above just helped me escape a bootloader loop which was (apparently created) by trying to load a different custom rom after having installed hardSPL. The only precautionary measure I took was to place only one image (the same OS & Radio you used) into the RUUWrapper folder at a time and it loaded right up. Still checking and testing some things out because the bootup isn't exactly smooth as silk, and the old "TREO750-1.13-CNG" still shows up under About->Phone->Software Version, but all firmware references reflect the updates. MTTY was ineffective in my particular situation.
Now for testing the radio for reliability and battery drain,etc...
Thanks for the heads-up!
Witch one is the correct selection (see attachment)
Anybody? at least tell me where I can find information about RUUWrapper.
Well I clicked Force use safe SSPL and clicked through and I got a error message saying that it could not communicate with the 750 Error 246 check usb connection?
I read that Vista had some issues with usb connections and to download and use VistaRUU usb drivers, I installed it according to the description, still error 246 and sometimes error 202?
Any ideas?
honestly i don't remember seeing that screen you are getting. it looks like the software isn't detecting the rom you have on your phone, in which case i would use the autodetect.
Hello Eric,
If I use autodetect it says it can not detect what version I'm using "Recomend using Safe SSPL"
This was the ONLY process that worked for me. However, I did not use the Cheetah unlocker, it is unfriendly with my Vista USB connection. I used magic unlocker and then your instructions and now I running on WM 6.1..
Thanks.. great work!!
I wonder - do you have Voice Command anymore?
Just curious - I lost Voice Command when I did this upgrade. Sure, the OS runs nice, seems a little faster, but I sure do miss Voice command. I am running AT&T's Treo 750, which had Voice Command on it. Some people, on some websites, like TreoCentral said there was a 'lite' version, which did not have Voice Command, but I installed this version: Treo750_OS5_2_19199WWE_STD.rar, and that seems like the right one.
So, I wonder - do you have Voice Command anymore?
As I know it is the normal version's bug (missing the voice command).
I completed set 1, no success!
When u say add to directory what do you mean?
missing the voice command? Oh my...

This is great and it worked for me so I'm including the files here.
WM 6.1 does have some things that need to be debuged.
I havent tried WM 6.0 but from what I read on here it seems that 6.0 is more stable.
Does any one know if this route will work for WM 6.0?
If so does any one know which file do you download?
Will this set up work with WM 6.0?
http://omnifusionhosting.net/treo750/
http://forum.ppcwarez.org/viewtopic.php?f=221&t=41062
Well, WM6.0 is more stable, for one thing I had a faster battery drain with WM6.1 than I did with 6.0.
As mentioned earlier, some missing stuff like voice command, but one thing I thought wouldn't be there was messaging. For some reason that Messaging is half annoying me.
While I'm at it, anyone know how to backup SMS messages? That Messaging app is just keeping them to itself.
