i get this same problem when I try to connect using my Tzones $5.99 plan. When I connect via WiFi it works just fine. Skyfire FAQ's say it will not work with Tzones $5.99 plan, only the Unlimited Tmobile Internet plan.

Don't ask me why, but when I entered my email address etc from the physical (side opening) keyboard (not the small electronic keyboard) it all worked immediately! No understanding as to why.

I had the same problem. Try going to Settings>Connections (Tab)>Connections(icon)>Advanced(Tab)>Select Networks. Where it says "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:.." hit edit, then go to Proxy Settings (tab) and uncheck the box that says "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet." Hit Ok then try to launch Skyfire Beta and you should connect. This browser is AWESOME! Enjoy!

I am getting the same error. I tried the changes mentioned with the proxy, and for some reason when I go back, the proxy server boxes are checked again. What's up...?
had to reset my password a few times also...works just fine now
Check your Task manager settings for closing pages maybe, perhaps the page settings are not being confirmed when you close the page. Had these same connectivity issues, unchecking the proxy box or switching to isp and using Wi-fi fixes this issue for At&T. Truly an Awesome browser supporting every version of flash player on the real net, redtube anyone? Can't wait for Opera to integrate this
The skyfire beta server is often down thus makes you unable to connect, wait a bit and try to connect again you'll be able to log on and such. I found the server to be quite unstable at current beta test stat.

AT&T Full strength "3G" connection is only clocking in at around 350kbps. Horrible. Edge is more like 120kbps.
I am using Medianet, have the PDA connect plan (that they forced me into), and even went to the trouble to utilize the "restore proxy" program in "tools" - no matter - still 350kbps. Sometimes it will come in over 400, but not often.
Wouldn't be so frustrating if it weren't for the fact that I'm sitting there with my wifes 3G iphone on the same network in the same place using the same speed test and she will regularly come in around 1400kbps.
Called AT&T to no avail. They said they were going to research it and set up an appointment to call me back even, but then they no-showed the appointment and never called.
What on earth am I doing wrong? How can I speed this thing up?
Have you tried changing ur connection settings to AT&T ISP instead of medianet? That always gets me super fast speeds.
Haven't tried that - was under the impression that you had to have the "tethering" plan to utilize the ISP address.
Is that my problem? Anyone else having medianet speed issues? What speeds are others getting?

what site are you using and maybe we can compare?
Try enabling HSDPA and see the difference
And if you're doing it ON the phone, you're doing it wrong. USB tethered I see about 2000k/sec here sometimes, but more typically 1400. On the phone itself I MIGHT see 700k.
Tried enabling hsdpa - but no difference. Suposedly its already enabled on these phones - just reads "3g" all the time.
Also trying tethered and getting the exact same speeds.
Using dslreports.com - they have a lowbandwidth that works well with phones...
Other thoughts?

Are you able to do this without a tethering plan? I've tried to enable and it doesn't work. I do have the PDA unlimited plan. Any special settings needed other than changing from Media Net to AT&T ISP in the Network Management settings?
try mobilespeedtest.com. I get between 4mb and 6mb down, consistently. Until a month ago I never got higher than 400 to 700k. It does seem loads snappier. Come to think of it, I did upgrade to wm6.1 about the same time, and I do have HSDPA enabled via kaiser tweaks.

I don't know what you're doing exactly, but what you need to do is change your access point from wap.cingular to isp.cingular.
Last I checked, any plan over $30 gave you access to isp.cingular, but that may have changed. You can always use it, but if your plan doesn't have it they might charge you per kb. If that happens, I've never heard of a case where AT&T wouldn't remove the resulting charge.

If it's a Kaiser, it's not likely the phone. It's your provider. Unless you have two phones side-by-side and one is giving higher speeds than the other, it's likely just your provider/location/etc.

Hello,
I have a big problem with my AT&T Tilt... The GPRS connection isn't working.
When I want to add a new connection the password of my country is just three letters but when I go to the password field form I see about 15 characteres, and obviously the GPRS settings don't connect me.
What can I do? Do I have to flash my HTC or something like that?
Thanks.

I thought someone made a cab file that let you select your phone network and it would set the phone up for you. You might want to look for it.

RBenard ... do not be sad! Just you try to install -> SummaryUtilitySP2 with gprs settings that you can automatically
If you want to use the webtop browser without a tethering plan you can try the following:
1. Install and enable Proxoid (a http proxy) http://code.google.com/p/proxoid/
2. Set the Webtop Firefox proxy to localhost, port 8080
3. Browse the internet without limits
The only thing i have not figured out how to do is get rid of the popup that says "Verifying AT&T account status for webtop...", it eventually goes away but is annoying none the less. If anyone knows what process is responsible for that perhaps we can manually kill it.
Wait... you need tethering for BOTH docks simply to open the browser?!

Yea if you follow that post and change the APN it will also eventually let you use the browser. The only trouble is while that message says "Checking your AT&T account..." it wont work. You have to wait for that message to time out and disappear.
The proxy method is just a way to avoid waiting for that message every time you start webtop.
i guess this would only apply to the people with the laptop dock.....my hd dock i use wifi anyways.

i have an iphone unlimited plan (switching from iphone4, may switch back), and did the APN change for the tethering. That works great, webtop keeps trying to check my plan and gets denied. My guess is you dont have an unlimited data plan so tethering is enabled.
This is tremendously helpful for me.
I am also on the unlimited plan and don't want to change to the tether plan but hate having to be on wifi to use the webtop firefox.
Its working well for me.
Great find.
And this is why I'm seriously thinking of selling my ipad for the dock. Seriously.
Rooted/ROM Captivate
Rooted Atrix
does this proxoid method work with the laptop dock? you don't have to change apn settings, can keep the default in place? Wondering if this is a safer route to go if it works.
What happens if you attempt to use the dock on 3/4G without a tethering plan?
I have gon into the phone and edited the Default telephony .db with wap.cingular APN settings. So now the default connection that the phone falls back to IS the wap.cingular settings.
I get a message from webtop that says its verifying tethering on my acct, but then the message disapears and the browser allows me online.
The .db i modified was data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
I midified the settings for #4 AT&T HSDPA, which is the APN that the phone defaults to, and webtop uses.
It also does the same now when i use wifihotspot. It turns on, gives error that i do not have the feature enabled on my acct, then still lets me usee wifihotspot feature.
edit: I've attatched the modified telephony.db. Rename the files ext to "db" without quotes. This was the only way i could upload - as i am on Webtop right now. push the file to the directory i listed above. --try at your own risk-- I would verify with SQLite that the integrity of the file is still intact aft you rename it back to telephony.db
please let me know if this works for anyone else, as it has worked for me.
A smart thing to do would also be replacing ALL instances of isp.Cingular or broadband in that list in the 310 mmc range to wap.cingular or phone.
True .. but while in Webtop, i checked the connected APN, and it is still ATT HSDPA.
Then could we be missing something that may be programmed into the webdock?
The proxy method works great. Thank you very much for the info!

Can someone give more specific instructions please, including setting up from firefox on the webtop? Also when using the proxoid mehod did u also change apn settings or leave them alone?
NEVERMIND, figured out what to do. Proxoid rules! No tethering contract required, no changing my APN, and no losing my unlimited data. happy camper here.

Are you positive that wifi tethering works? I'm on 32002 too, I can connect but internet doesn't work. Niether any of market solutions. I use Open Garden which use bluetooth connection.
Kept meaning to make a thread like this. Wifi tethering not working here either - gives connection to the connected device but no internet (local connection only).
Tested with Win 8 PC, Win 7 laptop, 2 other android phones, nexus 7 tablet.
I have the same issue here. I enable WiFi Hotspot, then I just get "Mobile Data Link Lost". Motorola have just suggested I do a factory reset - I haven't got around to trying that, yet.
Not going to do that for something that didn't work out if the box on an unmodified device.
Is everyone here still able to use internet on phone while tethered? Only the connected device has no internet?

So far I have used it only for my wifi kindle, and it works.
Will test it with other gadgets when I'm at work again.
Update: tried with a NetBook and an iPhone, both worked like a charm.
I had the same issue ("mobile data link lost"), and solved it by changing the APN settings. Although settings vary from carrier to carrier, here is what i did: i changed the APN type from "default" to "default, dun". Hotspot and usb tethering works fine eversince.

j4nosf, thank you! I really appreciate you signing up and posting this! For me, I it didn't work straight away, but you certainly pointed me right at the problem!
So to fix it, I went Settings -> More... -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names, then I pressed the name of the APN with a dot by it, edited it's "APN type". I tried setting "default, dun", but it didn't work. I opened up another APN on my phone and copied it's type - setting it to this (no spaces) worked:
default,supl,dun,hipri

I have the same problem with tethering. Can you please explain what exactly did you changed in your New APN so it worked for you ?
As I have read in some other forum the key thing is to somehow insert "dun" into the apn type. However, there is no universal solution since every carrier has its own apn settings. Therefore, you have to experiment like I and searbe did, and sooner or later you will find a way to get it work. As a first step, I would try to simply insert "dun" after the current apn type (i.e. if your apn type is "x", change it to "x, dun").
You may also try to contact your carrier, maybe they know the correct settings.
Good luck!
