Dont need extended ROM on device, anyway to remove pemanently . Not hidden .
you can reize it to 128k, read the wiki (gives the extra space to storage)

I'm currently running WM5 patch 2 but I've now started havings problems unhiding and unlocking Ext ROM on my Device. I keep getting the following error message:
"FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION - The parameter is incorrect"
Athough when I click ok I still get a debug message saying "extrom unlocked" but when I browse my BA, I am unable to locate \Storage folder. Somebody please help!.
Hi
This is simple.
When you installed WM2005, you re-formatted the ROM.
WM2005 uses 'persistent storage' automatically.
This means that all volatile data is kept in ROM (not RAM).
You can't interfere with that.
To put it simply. There's no extrom or 'storage' in WM2005.
Thank you for the information Robal. Does this mean I can nolonger install programs into the ROM i.e IIWPO (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=IIWPO)?

You cannot. Even if you place a file to extended ROM it would not be instaled after hardreset. WM5 on BA knows nothing about extrom.
Thank you Mamaich!
There another thing bugging me. When I check my Memory Usage, it displays something like this:
Storage
Total: 60.78 MB
In use: 44.21 MB
Free: 17.45 MB
Program
Total: 123.15 MB
In use: 29.77 MB
Free: 93.36 MB
It seems to me that there's no way of me manipulating memory usage i.e. allocate some memory from Program to Storage. Can this be achieved?[/b]
I have upgraded my rom. In the upg. process the stage 2 (extended rom) freezed at 29%. Now I have OS and radio rom but I have no extended rom. However I can verify that about 23,9mb of my storage space ar reserved to the extended rom that doesn't exist. I think the upg freeze because the space of 23,9mb is not enought to the extended rom. In fact the ms.nbf file has more that 25 mb. Do you know if is ther any tool or way to resize the space for extended rom? Thank you
Hey, I have just had this idea.
We actually have a single ROM, which is segmented in 3 parts: ROM, EXTROM and STORAGE right?
originally we have 43MB for storage, 26MB for EXTROM and the rest (32MB? not sure) for the OS ROM.
originally, a way has been found out to reduce EXTROM to the minimum of 128KB and add it to storage, giving is a 60MB goodness of space.
The thing is, over time compaction can cause slowness, so it's preferred to use a storage card to manage data and keep internal storage empty, as BAs haev not been designed for WM5 (nor vs. nand and stuff, we know about that).
BUT compaction never messes with our IMGFS in the OS ROM right?
What if instead of adding the EXTROM space to torage we added it to OS ROM?
That would give us +16MB (more, since IMGFS is compressed) of OS ROM to play with.
That's an upgrade from a bacon-and-eggs kitchen to a Cordon Bleu Chef kitchen
Maybe even storage could be reduced to add even more OS ROM space...
OK, I have had the idea, what the ones which actually get their fingers greasy (Tuatara, mamaich, Bepe, Midget, Helmi & co.) have to say? Is it possible?
Hi guys. Here's the deal. Can you flash a WM5 ext rom in a WM6 device. I have a wizard and i'm just wondering. is it possible? or do I need a wm6 ext rom? OH and ive searched my head off and i cant find anywhere with the aforementioned ext roms..........any help? Thanks in advance.
You can (However you may need to use itsutils yourself), however note that software and settings in WM5 ext rom may not be fully compatible with WM6.
btw, you can just use Total Commander and navigate to \Extended_ROM and make a backup to files there to your SD card, then install what you need after flashing WM6, that's the same unless not automatic.

sorry to butt in but WST allows to copy all files (or just some) to the Hard Drive in an easy manner
btw, WST can also be used to flash an extended rom in .nb format (decrypted as a partition image)
Hello everyone,
I tried searching the forums but did not find exactly what I was looking for.. Please excuse me if I missed a post..
I need to move my sd card from my g1 to a new phone, and I currently am running super E w/ danger SPL running from SD card. I need to make the G1 boot from the internal phone memory withj something smaller like Super D, so I can use it in another phone. Can someone please verify the steps required to replace danger SPL with old one?
Questions:
I found something saying Hard SPL is the regular one.. I can just find this and flash it as an update.zip?
Or by chance, Is danger SPL sooo cool, where I can somehow flash super D rom but since its small, it will automagically install to phone memory instead of the sd card?
Thanks for reading this, I am just nevous since I do not have a replacement phone yet, so I have to make sure I dont brick my antique android phone just yet..
Dominic
I suppose you are mixing up several things:
- DangerSPL is the program loader used to start up your phone. It's starting always the ROM installed within you phone's memory and it's not related in any sense to SD-Card.
- Super-E is the name of the OS you are running on your phone. Also this is mostly independent from SPL and SD-Card. Mostly in that sense, that the SPL is defining some default partitioning of your phone's memory and if the system partition is too small you cannot install the ROM. But you can always use custom partitions to change the memory layout to your needs.
- The ROM (Super-E) should run also without any SD-Card inserted, unless you are using something like a2sd / a2ext / data2sd ... If you are using such settings, move the applications and data to your phone's internal memory, disable a2sd / a2ext / ... and you can remove your SD-Card while the phone is still running.
As you can see, I do not understand, why you want to change the SPL and the ROM
Basically, I was under the impression when i installed danger SPL, I thought this special SPL redirected the os partition to the sd card in order to install larger roms on the sdcard due to the limited internal phone memory on a g1.
Now that i need to repurpose the sd card, i need to install a smaller sized rom that will fit in the internal phone flash.
Is this not correct?
Thank you for your assistance!!! I appreciate the reply!
The "DangerSPL" was suggested to be used before the possibility of custom partition layout was known, because it has a different default memory partitioning (~92MB on /system, instead of ~75MB with the standard layout). So you can install ROMs which need more space, but DangerSPL is not moving / acessing any parts of the ROM from your SD-Card.
Nowadays with custom partitioning there is a much more flexible way to define your memory layout. From that point of view there is no longer the need for "DangerSPL", nevertheless this SPL provides full fastboot capabilities, but that's another thing.
