messaging problems w/ helmi - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

i just downloaded the newest helmi and its not working with my keyboard.. well it does but i have to type extremely slow. if anyone can possibly reccommend a diff. ROM that is as good as this please let me no.
nstefanelli

For me, text messaging is real slow. I use letter recognizer and its laggy. So laggy to the extent that its pretty hard to type out sentences for SMS. Its like, you have to write one letter and wait for it to recognize before writing the other.
It only occurs in text messaging though.

yea thats how it is. just in texting...

I only get that problem when a Media player is playing songs

All of the WM5 upgrades have this problem. There is another discussion of it going on at the moment in this topic:

Fastest and lightest Herald ROM!

I am so annoyed at my Herald these days. Everything is always so slow (even with overclocking) and I am always running out of space. Perhaps I run too much on it, but I was wondering, what is the fastest and lightest (most usable space and memory) ROM out there for the Herald. I would not even mind going back to WM5, but in my experience WM6 has been faster anyways.
I have used many ROMs but settled for PDAVIET 4.17.07.12 as it seems to be the least buggy and fast, but not as fast as some of the first iterations of the WM6 ROMS.
Just clicking on stuff and waiting all the time really is annoying me to death these days.
Try the Touch_It V2.3 rom.
It's really fast but still a beta; the rom is great except for the keyboard. IT'je promised to have it cleared on very short notice.
What happenes with the keyboard? If just a few symbols are mismatched, I could deal with that.
Anyhow, why don't we collect a list of the roms here and rate them on speed and lightness?

The xt9 won't shut off when using the hardware keyboard. Some keys work OK, some keys don't. Whenever I try to type an 'a' or an 'l' this annoying 'add word' pops up. It really gets on your nerves when typing text messages.
I have been fiddling with it on the train yesterday because it was frustrating me so much. I have edited the registry, which at least got rid of the 'add word' question. I searched for 'xt9' and started editing values from 1 to 0
Try editing values in
HKLM\Software\OEM\MASxt9 (change from 1 to 0 to turn stuff off)
Afterwards I also completely renamed the following entry:
HKLM\Software\Tegic (I renamed it to Tegicx)
And that seems to have got rid of the xt9 completely. Unfortunately the touch-it keyboard won't function anymore at all after doing this. But at least I can use my hardware keyboard again on this otherwise fine ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340403&highlight=terra
is it this rom you mean?
I am no authority as a matter of fact I just got my phone a little over a week ago. I was looking for the "fastest". Tried them all in relatively short period of time and figured out for myself that if you want something specific learn to make it yourself. Tons of great tutorials here using the search. Personally I took the RUU and followed ITJE's tutorial and removed all the software I concsidered bloat. Then applied the pagefile manipulation. Finally got all the apps and games I like and I am rather happy. Currently I am considering removing Windows Media Player and just using TCPMP only. But again it is all about personal preference. No one elses ROM will make you happy like your own. ITJE's tutorial is solid and if you go step by step you will make a great final product.
PS. If you want to try mine pm I can give you a link. I didn't do much special just removed some built in apps and set my pagefile.

Try Touch-IT 3.0 which is specifically for the p4350. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345347

SMS Delay When Typing.

Does anyone know if there is a cure for what i've found to be my one MAJOR gripe with this fantastic phone.
Why when I type an SMS text message is the phone SO unresponsive? As soon as I start typing the phone is already behind my keypad pushes.
There are seconds between each push and the text appearing on the screen, it's quite regular that I type a few words of a sentence and by the end I have to wait ten seconds for everything to catch up.
I just dont understand why this phone should struggle with such a basic operation. Any ideas?
Yeah mine does the same thing. Thats the ONLY problem I have. THe one workaround i have seen is to close my messaging app once in a while. I always leave it minimized, but have found if I force it closed once in a while, it seems a little more responsive.
yes, i have the same issue from time to time. I regularly close the messaging app and also regularly reboot the device, but it doesn't make any difference that i have noticed...
Have you tried turning off the word completion option? Should be in Settings > Input, that may help but I'm not having that issue so I can't say for sure.
Do all you guys have stock ROM? If you guys have a custom ROM it could be a prog in there called xt9 that lags your typing response, you have to install a cab to fix this and it takes away the lag.
Yes auto complete would also lag your typing response. I would uncheck that.

First off, I would like to thank you all guys for the great info on this site. Secondly what is the cab you refer to called jbmorales?

Well, i'm using a stock ROM and ... despite seeing a drastic improvement by turning off the auto-complete word option, this seems absurd that the only fix for this problem is to turn off a feature of the phone's texting system.
Surely there is something wrong with the phone or the ROM's that they come custom installed with for this to be the case.
I just cannot see why the only fix for this is to turn off a feature, i'm most disappointed with HTC and/or TMobile depending on who is to blame.
I'm using Duttys Dualtouch 2 ROM and had the lag issue because of the xt9 application. There's a cab called "xt9disable" that fixed the lag. The stock ROM may not have the xt9 applications, but maybe there are some registry tweaks in the cab that may help...

xt9 disable
There ya go.
Well I am going to try the xt9disable, and see if it works for me too. I notice the lag when typing a text message, and also when typing in Goodlink mobile messaging. So it doesn't seem to be software specific, its definately a device or OS thing.
You're probably not interested but i don't experience this issue. I've got a UK version Kaiser with stock ROM, not many apps installed (other than HTC Album, HTC Camera, a few games, Opera Mini 4 (can't wait till opera Mobile 9 ) and a few others). And whether Auto-complete is on or off i don't experience any lag.

cootek touchpal problems

Hello all!! I recently installed Cootek Touchpal on my TILT, and I sometimes have problems with it, sometimes it freezes up and doesn't let me enter in any letter, other times letters vanish from the damn keyboard itself. Does anyone have the same problems with it? I really like the keyboard and how its layed out but the problems are just getting on my nerves. Does anyone have a alternative keyboard that they use without opening the keyboard? I use it alot when im in the car, when I only have one hand free. thanks

Have you tried posting here?

No I haven't posted there yet, but I was just wondering if anyone had any other keyboards that they use. Becuase the default one is small, even if you put it in large keys mode.
Oh then you might want to search for that.
alrighty then. Thanks

I use the cootek TouchPal 3.0 I used all versions since it came out. I actually do not even use the hardware keyboard anymore I can type so much faster on the TouchPal. I have had freezing when trying to type but I have always found it to be the ROM not the keyboard. What ROM are you on?
-McMex
First the snapshots looked good. This is somehow similar to what we see in marketing : products branded with nice designs, but the quality poor.
My device, Axim X51V, is quite a fast one, or this is my impression about this kind of CPU's. Touchpal made me feel I was using a 200MHz OMAP.
So after a few tests in which I've seen it doesn't do much I've uninstalled it quickly. Sorry, but there are better alternatives, so I won't stick to something inferior.
If anyone needs to know, I'm currently using FTPRO, it's simply the best KB so far, you can download the CAB Attached and give it a try. More details on www.fingertouchpro.com

Problem with swedish keyboard.

Hey.
I got a swedish X1 it works great except just 1 thing..
For instance when i open an sms converation and start typing imidiatly, For example something with the hardware keys åäö... they arent placed in the same order as the other keys..
For example.. If i type "jag åker" it could very well become "åjag ker"
As in, The normal letters lagg but the åäö does not.
This is a common problem untill the for example sms app is fully loaded...
Anyone experienced this b4?
Old well known problem and as far as I know there are no real fixes for this.
So its a hardware bug?
anyone can explane better?

No its not. its because the software has to translate the letter å,ä,ö into computer term, when you are using other language than swedish in your rom. So if you got a swedish buil with swedish sys, then no problem at all, if you got the time and effort try other roms in eng then swe and youll see big difference.
so to get the best experience with swedish letters, AKA swedish hardware keyboard run a swe. ROM.
It's as simple as that!
I have a Swedish keyboard and I don't have this problem.

Currently using Itje's Touch it version 4 (also tried 4.5) WWE
Whatever build version that was ?
Chose swedish KB via CE regeditor.
No problems with that. Even used Generic UK ROM as well and did not have the issue described here.
I have to use English Roms as I am a native English speaker, just happened to be in SWE right now and this is where I got my X1. Maybe that makes a difference?

You mean you have a QWERTZ hardware keybord? if so i had the same problem, just change a value in the registry. HKLM>HARDWARE>DEVICEMAP>KEYBD>chage value in CurLang(hexadecimal) from 409 to 407 and soft reset. it worked for me

I have the same problem as hargibi. Have had the problem with all original swedish sony-ericsson ROMs. The defult value for CurLang on my X1 is 1053(decimal) and 41D(hex). Changing the value for decimal to 407 will only serve to transform the hardware into a standard english qwerty which is not what i'm trying to do.
To me it would have made sense if the å ä ö buttons were slower to react than the rest but here we actually have the opposit problem: They are faster, meaning the word godkänner, for example, would become godäknner or even ägodknner depending on how fast you write.
So the question is: has anyone solved this problem or does anyone have any ideas?
Edit: Okay, so i dissabled word suggestions and this solved the problem. Not a very satisfying compromise since im a bad speller and i liked that funktion but it'll work while we're waiting for a better solution...
Edit 2: Forgot the creds! thanks hamre, for the help!

Are there any new news about this issue??
Sorry for bringing up this thread from the dead, but its better than creating a new one eh?
Any new about this? Having som problem with almost all latest 6.5 roms that the message-system is really slow. It lags like hell in other words.
ROM overall is suuperfast, havent used any rom as stable as this (826x). But it lags when typing sms.. sometimes i could be like one word ahead when typing fast on the hardware keyboard compared to what is actually shown on the screen. And that messes up with ÅÄÖ. like "jag ska åka bil" end up like "jagå ska ka bil".
And its strange, because the rest of the rom is lightning fast. And to mention, this is when using WM messaging, when typing with HTC message client (go to a contact, switch to messages tab) its running smoothly. BUT, as all knows, HTC message client sucks, how funney is it when typing a sms with the length of 1000 chars then accidentally press "back" and its all gone.. No question "do you want to save?" **** that

As I remember this is due to an issue with the windows mobile operating system, especially with the fact that you are probably using a WWE version (english version) Rom. There is a Swe 6.5 rom out (non-manila though) give it a try and see if the character lag exists. Otherwise i guess you as I have to just live with it I don't think there will ever be a WWE without this lag
There is a fix for the non-åäö lag though here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581901&highlight=lag
It removes the character count, which means you wont know how many sms how send, but there is no lag atlest

:/ that sucked. I mean, running heavy programs, like word there is no lag when typing. A simple thing like typing a text message on a mobile should work...
If i understood that .cab correctly, you wont be able to send more than 160chars per sms?

Yes you will, but it wont show you how many chars there is, nor how many sms that will amount to so if your sms plan is not unlimited, its quite easy to get a nice bill at the end of the month
And just one more thing, this is my perception of the sms bug, might be someone more knowing than me
Ay its unlimited so that no problem. Ill try!
As i see it, it's not really an issue of non SWE-ROMs... as i still run the stock R3AA SWE ROM and the ÅÄÖ issue is really tiresome... forcing me to slow down my typing and sometimes go back to correct "my" mistakes...
Also, i've turned off the correction/suggestions totally, didn't notice a difference, really weird how they can keep this bug alive throughout all these WM OS builds, such a simple but yet VERY important thing as SMS texting crippled... what a shame.
Edit: oh and i tried that remove letter count fix, but that messed up the texting program, i couldn't enter the email/texting application anymore, so i restored it...

Hm. Acctually that fix did the trick for me. What ROM are you using? Im running 826x 6.5.5 ROM and just by removing the counting the input is instant and no laggy letters anymore
I used the .cab in attached, install and softreboot quickly.

new to WM 6.1 and having issues

ok so Im a noob when it comes to the HTC tilt. i bought it about a week ago and since then i have upgraded to WM 6.1 and installed the Kaiser Tweak, Black Theme, Opera Mobile 10 beta and Mobium GPS software. The phone seems kind of laggy, when i go to "wake it up" it will occasionally flash then immediately go "back to sleep". I also noticed today that when i slide the keyboard out to txt message, the word completion window pops up with nothing in it and if i hit the menu tab there are just hyphens in it, no actual words i.e. delete, forward,insert......so on. I need help. i flashed the WM 6.1 last night and didnt have these problems till about an hour or so ago....with the exception of the lag.
Welcom to the WM 6.1 'upgrade'
Although I've never had a Tilt (mines just the HTC version of a TyTN II), some of the issues you describe were problems I'd found with the default HTC 6.1 upgrade. Sometimes what people expect to be an improvement because it's newer, isn't necessarily better. If you want to go back to how it was, read up the Wiki here at xda-dev which will tell you how you can flash back to the original WM 6.0 setup (or perhaps you may prefer the slightly newer but still WM 6.0, 1.62 series ROM referred to here ).
ok....well ive been browsing and ive seen ALOT of these "cooked" roms. what r these exactly and has anyone had luck with a specific one. i know that everyone has their preference but again...im new. I dig the black theme and the threaded SMS is a must have. i also like the kaiser tweak....does any one have a file for threaded SMS if i decide to go back to 6.0
Maybe something about it in the wiki

No, no-one has ever had any luck with a cooked (or customised) ROM... But seriously if you want to know which is best it will depend what you want it to do and even then asking which is best is frowned upon here at xda-dev (because it can cause flame wars so it's a no-no). What most people do is try them and see. I've tried a few and always ended up going back to stock to get fast GPS. Have a search for threaded SMS - I don't recall if that's possible under WM 6.0 but maybe there's a cab around. Have a good read in the wiki section as well -there's lots of usefull info in there. I hardly ever use sms so what I have is good enough for my needs.
Check out Solace v3.1,
looks pretty spiffy if you ask me. Finger-friendly as well.

Well I'm not sure if you have tried that or not but, did you check your memory?? like is you mobile memory or even your memory card full or kind of full?? that really makes the mobile sooooooo slow and boring specially if you have an 8GB almost full memory card. One more thing, it's better if you close the word completion option as i had a problem before that the mobile had saved too many entries that it reached a limit were each time i try to write a msg it just freezes the whole mobile and that problem wasn't solved except when i stopped the word completion
