Upgrade problem - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hi there,
I have prolem with upgrading my BA.
I upgraded my BA to WM 2005. But this version isn't suitable for my. I would like to return to my previous ROM, or change ROM to HEMI...
I downloaded HEMI ROM and I started upgrade utility..
First i used BaUpgradeUt.exe. Error 100: Error model ID appeared..
Second I used MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe. After several seconds appeared window with information about uprading, so I pressed UPGRADE button.
After that ActiveSync shutted down, and window with information "checking information on your device" appeared...
My XDA still working, there is no information about upgrading.
Is there any tricks with WM2005.
Some advices?

Yes: to read readme.
In every rom package, (even in case of HELMI's on) there is Readme.txt file, that explains the procedure (in case of helmi's one: in folder with nbf file).
In short words:
0. Unhide and delete EXTROM by repartitioning flash rom (info on Wiki)
1. Unzip and copy nbf to correct folder
2. SetOperator (in case of MDA3 from ERA GSM it was T-MOB009, but you HAVE to check it in your machine)
3. Prepare EXTROM on SD card
4. Put BA in Bootmanager mode (Serial/USB massage on the screen)
5. Go on with BaUpgradeUt
6. Make Hard Reset WM5 way (power with reset is not enough)
When you do this carefull according to the Wiki and Readme, you should be happy user of WM5.

Thx. It's working now.

If you stuck on boot or color screen !

Guys,
This is my experience with O2, which stuck on boot after udated to new IVAN's ROM.
First of all I'd like to thank Ivan for his great job.
Now, what I did:
Downgraded to se2003
Unhide, Unlocked EXTROM
Repartition EXTROM to 8MB
Upgraded to new WM5 ROM
Reboot -> STUCK !
I found the solution which worked for me and may be will help you too.
More, after my second attempt to upgrade ROM, my Laptop rebooted itself a 47% ! I did panic- my device was gone dead!
even Bootloader mode was unavailable.
OK, I disconnected PDA from cradle, removed battery and left it for 10 minutes. Then I put battery back, and was able to put it into bootloader mode.
Then, I run mtty utility and typed in "set 14 0" I'm not sure why and how, but it allowed me to to go to bootloader mode.
-I set SE2003 OS
-I repartition EXTROM to 16MB
-Updated again to new Ivan's WM5.
Voila ! it's OK now. I'm installing all needed CAB's and now have clean very fast and working OK WM5 OS o my O2 XDAs PDA.
( although have not tryed yet BT and WiFi)
I'm afraid the problem was due to setting number 8000 KB in partiotion tool set it actually a bit less something about 79xx KB.
May be EXTROM for Ivan's ROM did not like it and failed to boot. But this is just a speculations, I'm not sure. I should perhaps set size o EXTROM to say 9000KB and try again, but simply did not have a time to do test.
Nevetheless, I'm happy now.
can u provide me step by step (noob guide) to downgrade back to wm2003se ... the one i downloaded from the official site doesn't work ... it will say error and i still stuck with wm5 ... im a noob ... please really help, thanks
ok at last i found it ... extract the installation files provided by o2 ... put the rom file into the downgrade folder provide by the modified rom pack ... now i try go back to wm5 ... wish me luck
i tried go back to win2003se but when i use the unlocker tools it failed ... so i guess i will nvr get to see the ext rom ... anyway as long as the phone can be use i will leave it as it is now
Yes, I know, it gives you an error message (something about wrong parameters) on unlock. But, under that you can see another message box with unlock OK message. Quite weird.
Steps I took to downgrade are exactelly as instructions in downgrade folder.
And one more thing I forgot ! After unhiding I did soft-reset, then unlocked and then Formatted ETROM folder before upgrading to WM5.

maybe that's why u able to see the extrom after upgraded to wm5 ... btw i install the cabs one by one and now my wm5 worked ... guess imnot going to touch it anymore, but the performance is actually quite slow ... do you actually install all the cabs into the device, storage card, or extrom partition (i dont have this) ... to maximise the performance?
what WM5 are you using?
if you ask me, i'm using Ivan's ROM + radio 15.0 with about 10 diff. cabs installed.
performance is not such impressive, but everything is working and I do not have soft I won't use.
clean and quite reliable, but speed is slow.
COM -
I also got stuck with a white screen after flashing ArtZ Rom and doing a hard reset.
Just a white screen and nothing happens.
Flashed other Roms - back to Tuma - same thing - white screen after hard rebooting.
Stuck and confused now.
Any ideas for a solution?
Thnx
OK - I am back.
Panic mode over - whew!
Flashed back to WM2003 from i-mate site - it worked.
Then flashed to latest ArtZ Rom.
Don't really know what happened or why. I've upgraded to nearly every WM5 Rom with no problems. suspecting the partitioning of extrom?

Thank you in advance.
try this for whoever get stuck at boot screen or in bootloader mode
1. Download mtty v1.42 from http://files.pdamobiz.com/ROMs/XDA/mtty1.42.rar
2. Stop ActiveSync, by Task Manager (press Ctrl + Alt + Delete)
kill two processes rapimgr.exe and wcescomm.exe
3. put your device into Bootloader Mode by pressing Power + Record Button and Soft Reset.
4. Run mtty (from downloaded) Choose WCEUSBSH001
5. type "set 14 0" without the quotes to tell bootloader to boot the OS after reset.
6. type "task 28" to get your device formatted
7. type "task 0" to ask your device reboot
8. take the device out of the cradle, and manually reset it if it does not do that already.
good luck.

imatrix, thank you very much, your hint solved
this issue with stucked boot screen and Extended
ROM Error when downgrading to SE2003.
I already tried with mtty and "SET 14 0", but
don't know for the other commands / task 28, task 0.
The main hint is "task 28" which made DOC_format_HW+
DOCInfoTableinitHW+ other formatting.
Again, thank you very much and all the best to you.
Greetings from Croatia, the small land for a great vaccation ;-)
@MDA3_CRO
Just saw your post.
Could not get mtty to work.
Will keep your instruction for future use (hope not).
Glad your .paper weight' is useful now
Please help I have tried all the above and none of it has worked, I'm still stuck in bootloader screen.
i dont understand what you mean by

5. type "set 14 0" without the quotes to tell bootloader to boot the OS after reset.
6. type "task 28" to get your device formatted

when i run my mtty it just opens "Open Port Settings" then it goes to a window that shows i can type in it but it only allows me to copy paste words into it. Can anyone help me please?! i just want to be able to use my BA again

1st of all thanks for your reply.
I did follow the instruction but I got the error on the 1st post it seems that the Extended_Rom is deleted not resized to 128KB any tool to creat a permenent partition and name it Extended_Rom.
Thanks again.
Hi,
Try to install 2003 software, you can find it at Club Imate, as this will re-install the EXT-ROM then again Unlock it and Repartition it to 16MB. By this way you will get the original ROM Version 2003.
Hope this will help.

Thanks for your reply. But the problem is worse than that I tried this many times bt as the Extended_ROM (club i-mate) size 16 MB and the device Extended_ROM is reformated to 128 KB it cannot install it and when I tried to Format or Unlock it I got the errors as the 1st post and also I noticed that the bluetooth giving me license expired error and the device always freezes. If there is a program that Can Creat a temp disk like the one in WM5 or any method to Creat a drive like that (PERMENANT DRIVE) I'll be thankful

Lokiwiz.bat problem,plz help!

1. Glance through Faria's original thread on this (he wrote the book!!)
2. Download button's 1.05 ROM
3.. Downgrade your ROM to the Button 1.05. Let it go through the whole setup please...
Note: If your device fails at 98% with a 302 error follow Vippie's advice and try the Xda_MiniS_LaunchROM_v154102 instead.
4. Download lokiwiz - HTC Wizard Unlocker UPDATE Version 0.2b
5. Extract the afore mentioned file to the root of your C drive. Do NOT extract to a folder with spaces...
6. Open Activesync WITH YOUR DEVICE NOT CONNECTED! and delete your partnership.
7. Connect your device and cancel the partnership. (You're a guest )
8. Open ActiveSync, Explore and copy enablerapi.cab from your PC's C:\ (remember that's where you extracted lokiwiz to...) to you device, I don't care where.
9. Pick up your PDA, File Explorer, find the enablerapi.cab and click it.
10. (Back to your PC) ... <Start> <Run> <cmd> <Enter> to give you a most wonderful MS Dos prompt (be afraid, VERY afraid!)
11. In the MS Dos box (mouses not allowed!!!) type "CD\" <enter> (no quotes)
12. Type "lokiwiz.bat" <enter> (Actually, if you have XP, type lok then <tab> it SHOULD complete the filename, YMMV.
13. You will see a screen that has ...
U. Unlock
L. Lock
C. CID Unlock (SuperCID)
Q. Quit
14. Hit the U key on your PC and press <Enter> ... your PDA WILL REBOOT upon completion !!!!!!!
15. Wait for your PDA to reboot, rerun the lokiwiz batch file (if you hit the up arrow key twice on your keyboard it will retype "lokiwiz" then hit the C key on your PC and press <Enter> ... YOUR PDA WILL REBOOT UPON COMPLETION !!!
(if your Pocket PC Phone does NOT reboot each time, you didn't do it right! Stop and make that work, trust me!, then go on)
16. Watch the rebooting of your PDA, if BOTH IPL and SPL are 1.xx then great. Quite probably your IPL will be 1.xx and your SPL will be 2.xx. Rerun the button 1.05 ROM downgrade a second time and it will become 1.x on both IPL and SPL. You don't need to redo the unlocking.
17. My suggestion, take for what it's worth, is to download and install the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM
This will give you a strong 2.26 IPL and SPL to work with.
Now you SHOULD have a IPL and SPL of 2.26 to work with. If not, you screwed up! Don't attempt to install someone's hard work and ***** before you do these steps!
EDIT for Step 17 - Download and install the 3.08 IPL/SPL rather than the 2.26, your choice! (I suggest doing the T-Mobile 2.26 first but that's me

if you have followed the procedure correct than there's no way that you shud stuck at step 13 as you say.you are supposed to complete the procedure only once and it takes only a couple of minutes to finish.

the only catch in it as where guys usually go wrong is placing of EnablRapi.cab file in the phone, check if you have done this step correctly, secondly where did you execute the Lokiwiz.bat file ?

NBD Rom has nothing to do with not letting it sync,it just that Active sync downloaded file might be corrupt, download again and install,i'm sure it'll be alright

1. You cannot reformat extROM without unhiding and unlocking it first. Follow the procedure step by step. (remeber aboutsoft reset
2. Correct links to both tools as well as the procedure you can find on Wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Helmi - Installation)
3. Report effects.
3b. Your english is OK

3. soft reset
4. launched unlock
5. system displays a windows named debug showin ERROR: press OK
6.another system window named debug showin FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION press ok
7. another window saying a peripheral connected to system in not working press ok
8. a debug window saying extrom unlocked

anyone can help with this problem ?
Hiya
I was searching XDA-DEVELOPERS website about 2 days to find a solution for this problem, I have an I-mate PDA2K, i used all EXTROM tools on this website like this:
1- Installed EXTROM_tools,
2- run UNHIDE ,
3- then run UNHIDE,
4- Soft Reset,
5- now i can see Extended_ROM on my file explorer, i can read it , and able to write on it ... copy paste ...
6- run REPART_DOC.exe on my device,
7- tried many sizes like 128kb, 1024, 2048, 512, 61000, .................
but on this step i always get the god damned FL_IOCTL_FORMAT_PHYSICAL_DRIVE failed,
i finally used Task 28 under MTTY but nothing happened, still have this problem,
No Wayyyyyy ! No wayyyyyyyyyy to repart my DOC size, .... noooooooooooo wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
anyone going to help me plzzzzzzzzzzz ?
try it in this order...
1. downgrade to 2003
2. in WM2003 unlock... unhide... softreset
3. then repart_doc...
4. then upgrade to WM5/WM6
PS:
@Borbor...
hmm... i cannot see any part on your post that you tried to UNLOCK the extrom.
mastermoon DID. you need to unlock it first in order to modify it.
unhiding it just simply makes it visible to filemanagers.

I'm not a braincracked one, I'm a computer software engineer and i write CNC machines programs, so i don't need to someone to teach me instructions !!!! i did all, but i got FL_IOCTL_FORMAT_PHYSICAL_DRIVE failed. !
find me a good solution plz !
and i thought landmark's the only one who is bossy...
if you dont need instructions then what are you looking for in here??? duh!!!
you're both at the same level of intelligence... are we downgrading humans now?
P.S.
look at the end of the third post... that is solved.
Everybody is allowed to name themself software engineers nowadays?
Please people start behaving like grown up's we are no longer in kindergarten.
Please:
- listen to each other
- be prepared to be wrong
- try explaining your problem in another way
- but most of all don't try to solve your listening problems by yelling and cussing to each other.

Upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.x

Dear XDA Members,
I have now read the official Wiki five times, and I still haven't understood how to upgrade my BA to a Windows Mobile 6.
The Wiki "HTC Blueangel WM6 Home" links to a Wizard Style Wiki for this, however that link only returns a 404 Error. I also haven't found any information about this in the FAQ or orther threads. Maybe it's just me?
Where can I find a WM6 image for the BA (T Mobile MDA III)?
What software do I need to flash it via USB to the BA?
Thank you in advance.
Chris
Please refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630416
The instructions are there in Posts 1-6. Good luck.
Sunny
hi and welcome to the forum
as stated by sunny, my tutorial thread should cover all aspects of the upgrade process, including links to most of the recent roms.
the blueangel wiki suffered from the transfer to the new mediawiki project, which is why it should not be used for tutorials anymore.
Thank you both for your fast and helpful support.
I am running a non-english Windows Mobile 2003SE (GER) and executed the steps from your Guide to downgrade it to a WWE version. On xplode.tk I downloaded the latest T-Mobile UK Version and extracted the files mentioned in step 1b from the Temp folder while executing the .exe file. I also copied the files into the RUU folder.
When I open the task manager in step 6 i can only find and kill "wcescomm.exe"; "WCSEMgr.exe" isn't there. I am running WinXP SP3, logged in as administrator.
When I start Maupgradeut_noid anyway, I doesn't show me the rom versions.
Where am I going wrong?
Edit: I forgot to mention I have read the thread "Cant' Downgrade from Win2003 SE GER to ENG", but renaming the folder and then trying it didn't work for me either.
if you can't see those processes, you are probably not running activesync. install the latest version (a link can also be found in that thread in the 2nd post) and create a temporary partnership. just connect the device in normal running mode and set it to sync something small, like notes or favorites, after syncing go to the connection settings and untick "allow usb connections" then you should be fine and you can continue with the next step, connect in bootloader mode, make sure the display changes from serial to usb. at that point, a new driver will be installed and then running the ruu should get the upgrade process working, meaning, then there will be numbers in the 2nd window. if not, please post the RUU.log found in C:\
I have already installed ActiveSync 4.5.0.
I created a temporary partnership syncing favourites and after that unticked USB syncing in ActiveSync.
Then I connected in bootloader mode, making sure the display changed to USB V2.07. No new driver was installed, but I guess that already happened in my earlier attempts.
The HTCRUU.log (no RUU.log there) i found on C:\ contained a "Image Radio Checksum Error", so I downloaded another image from another mirror, but got the same problem.
Here is the log from the 2nd attempt:
11:50:02:843 [msg] : Config Info : [000000],[0],[0].
11:50:02:875 [err] : Image Radio Checksum Error.
11:50:02:875 [msg] : Update Image. CE : [0], MSystem : [0], Radio : [0]
____
I HAVE however been able to flash a WindowsMobile 6.5.3beta image to the device without formatting, so thank you for helping me with that!
I reverted back to Win2003SE, because I would still like to get the 60MB if possible.
ah, ok, apparently the radio rom is damaged and shows a crc error, since you are planning on downgrading and then upgrading, just delete the radio_.nbf from your update folder and try again.
no worries, obviously, you did nothing wrong, but there have been a lot of corrupted radio roms around lately, xplode's rom archive has them and so mine and d-two's have them as well.
in general, a first indicator for corrupted roms is the file size, a nk.nbf rom must always have 32,769kb (1kb more than 32mb) and a radio has 4,097kb (1kb more than 4mb)
you can ignore (delete) all radio roms in the process of upgrading, frankly, it has nothing to do with the operating system itself, it is just the bridge between the operating system and the hardware. if you are not running radio 1.15.00 yet, which is the latest and according to most users, the best version, you can upgrade it any time you want, so i'd suggest: try and upgrade to wm6.x first and then, when you got used to flashing, flash the radio, or, if you are satisfied with your phone's in-call sound quality, bluetooth and wi-fi performance, don't flash it at all.
Ah, ok.
I deleted the radio file and tried again. This time it showed me an ms_.nbf Checksum Error. I deleted that one as well and got this:
09:51:05:968 [msg] : Config Info : [000000],[0],[0].
09:51:05:968 [msg] : RadioFile Not Exist !
09:51:05:968 [msg] : MSystemFile Not Exist !
09:51:06:171 [err] : Image CE Checksum Error.
09:51:06:171 [msg] : Update Image. CE : [0], MSystem : [0], Radio : [0]
I also redownloaded the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe right from your signature to ensure I didn't use an old one. Still the same problem.
My radio file DOES have 4,097kb; the nk.nbf has 32,769kb as well...I have to admit i'm still puzzled.
I also downloaded the two most recent radio files from your tutorial thread. Same problem: Checksum error. But I do not get a checksum error when I try to flash one of d-twos os-images.
i'm changing the radio roms, i will only provide radio 1.15.00 from now on, and i will post the entire package, as it came from htc (including the original RUU).
Thanks.
Where can I find them? Your tutorial thread seems untouched.

Hi scudo2709,
I am using Windows XP. Flashing a ROM is no problem, I have now had 5 different ROMs on my BA. However, I haven't been able to flash a shipped english rom (WM2003) in order to format the flash drive. I keep getting Checksum Errors with all of the ones I've been able to try so far.
Thank you for trying anyway.
