I installed a new clean ROM Tmo 2.26 by Molski. Everything is working fine. However I noticed that now I only get the "G" icon showing. On the previous ROM (2.25 by Summiter), the icon would switch between "E" and "G" indicating which type of network it is detecting. Not sure if it matters much, but it seems I can only get GPRS now?
TIA
It's just an indicator, meaning the G doesn't really mean that it's only GPRS. I included the Edge cab here if you want.
Purely cosmetic...

Dr. Puttinham, Molski - thanks
I downloaded your CAB and it did not change my G indicator. What it did do is change my phone indicator from a phone to a windows icon. How can I change it back?
Did you wait before you reset your device ? Registry settings aren't written immediately. I typically turn my device off and then back on after applying reg tweaks.
(and it's not my cab but the cab that comes in the Cingular Extended ROM)
Edge
Also, you still get a G if Edge isn't available.
Worked for me on the Wizard.

Thank you, Doctor. Ha, ha.
BTW. You DO have to soft reset device to get the indicator to come up. I guess there are some reg edits that don't require a soft reset to take effect but this one does.

flashed my wizard and everything looks good! i set up my Media Net (cingular) and i noticed that i no longer get an EDGE connection. on my stock rom it would show an E for EDGE but now its showing a G for regular GPRS..is this something in the ROM? as far as i know i set the connection settings exactly as they were before.
Edge/GPRS are network availability dependent. I've sometimes had to soft reset my phone for it to show up - but nothing needs to be setup. Just be patient, try a soft reset maybe.
still nothing...the funny thing is it used to show in on the stock ROM..another thing i noticed is i cant find the proxy option under connection settings...

It is possible that your current ROM doesn't have the option set to show the alternate EDGE icon. It's a registry setting that determines if the icon shows. Even if the icon is disabled the device will still connect via EDGE if it can.
You can use the Registry Wizard program to enable the EDGE icon (along with many other reg hacks), edit the registry yourself or run one of the many CAB files that makes the change for you.
As for the proxy settings, the default My ISP connection does not have a proxy setting. If you create another connection, it can have a proxy.
thanks man that helps alot..but do you know by any chance where i could find the EDGE setting in the registry?
Not offhand. I know it's been posted before so you can try a search, otherwise just use Registry Wizard. It's probably the easiest option.

hey guys,
i have an unlocked wing running on cingular. im looking to get rid of all the stupid customizations tmo puts in the os. got rid of everything except a tzones icon that shows on the bottom right of the screen by my batt meter and comm manager. any idea what reg keys will make this hidden?
i really wish i could just reflash with a generic os, fingers crossed for one soon.

i would hard reset and then soft reset right before the installation of the extended rom. but i dont know what is embedded in the rom itself. try it and see what happens. it can't hurt.
good call, trying it now...
ugh the links must be embedded in the rom, i get the stupid link icons with no programs behind them.
guess ill dig around in the registry and see what i can find.
Hey, since you are in the registry, can you export the registry for us and post as an attachement?
I would like to see if there are any entries for myfaves stuffs and a few other things.
I use Kilmist Registry Editor and Registry Workshop (when usig aggravating sync).
Thanks.

My battery life is killing me.
Can anyone tell me how to switch the bands like I used to on my 8525?
I looked under settings/phone/ - no "Band" tab
I modified the registry ShowUMTSBandPage to "1" but still nothing shows up.
Please help!!!
Thanks!
Open the file manager, switch to the Windows directory, search for the file "HSDPASwitch.exe" and run it. I hope the file is available on the Tilt.
Is this what you are looking for?

Nope. We dont have that file. Can you send us the file and see if it can work on the Tilt?
It is there, but you have to turn on "Show all files". At least on the AT&T stock firmware.
Peter - thanks for the info. It wasn't quite the file I was looking for (it does exist on the AT&T Tilt units. There's a "band" tab on the phone settings that allows you to switch between GSM & CDMA. There's a band.html in Windows directory that explains this but it doesn't seem to be available.
The file is there, but doesn't seem to work. I uncheck the enable HSDPA box, and it pops up to say I need to reset, but after a soft reset, I still have 3G.
I believe the HSDPA app is for switching between UMTS & HSDPA (which is the higher data rate).
What I'm looking for is the band tab application to select between Edge & 3G (like on the 8525).
I'm not even passed 1/2 my day and I'm already on 46% (I had it charged fully at 7am).
battery life is concerning me too - so i'm trying the Fully charge/fully deplete cycle a few times to see if i can achieve better battery performance.
if not.. time to start cutting back on the services or get a desk/car charger
You can always use a different comm manager. I use one of Shapps. Here is a black version... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1575189&postcount=131

been trying to figure out the band page issue myself - the registry entries form the Hernes days don't work. i believe you can manipulate the registry keys to do this but clearly not a user freinfly option.
Can someone who understands what the 3G buttons (on the Comm Mangers that have it) does behing the scenes?

I had to unassanble the program to let commmgrpro be compatible with Kaiser
It unregister, from operator and then makes a hidden and undocumented direct call to the driver to make the magic and previously does a change in registry. But the complicated things was to discover the correct params needed by the IOCTRL function
Dani
I wish I knew that as well, I would love to have a switch for 3g or nothing cause edge is brutally slow
I turned on 3g in the command center but my phone still switches between eg and edge frequently. When I turn off 3g in the command center it turns off my data all together, is this functioning properly?

I can't seem to get the UMTS Band Page to show up on my Tilt. I did the same registry edit as with my 8525 - HKLM/Software/OEM/PhoneSetting "ShowUMTSBandPage" value set to "1". I tried several times, and verified the value was at "1" after a soft reset and even tried a hard reset, changed the registry again, and still no luck.
Any ideas?
I looked at my registry (ATT TILT) and it is "stock" just as you describe (value=1) and I don't have a UMTS Band Page anywhere from what I see. I have to go to /windows/ and tap the EXE file.
Hope that helps...????
After a quick search, I found an app that might help you. Version 2 is a "paid" program, but version 1 is free.

Not my program but a good one.. however you must use a new version for the tilt and I know the ver 1.2.3 will not work 100% correctly. It is prob worth the money if the newest ver works but there must be other ways to disable 3G just not as easy as the prog.
I hate to bring up an old thread, but has anyone found a resolution for this problem other than installing bandswitch? I did a search and while I may have overlooked a true solution, bandswitch (or similar) seems to be the only answer.
You could flash to the HTC ROM to get it.

Ahhh, but of course! While that is indeed a viable option in general, right now I need to keep the stock rom in place given some network issues that are "under investigation." Hence why I would like to/need to avoid installing bandswitch and would like the "factory," if you will, way of limiting to WCDMA.
Just install a 10 button Comm Mgr that has a 3g toggle option (if that's what you're talking about).

Is there one with the classic look as opposed to the "touch' look?
So I can get my tilt to display neither, or the clock all the time, or the battery when at the today screen and clock otherwise, but is there a way to make it show both the battery and clock icons at the same time all the time?
well, you can start by searching. Also, try programs like kaiserTweak or Advanced config
Yes, I've searched and I've used both programs. I've found plenty of documentation on how to make none, one, or the other appear, but nothing on both.
Try wisbar
I was hoping for something more like a registry edit, so I could show the native icons, not a program that would add its own.
I've asked so many times about removing the network icon...and nobody has found away...
the only way I've found to have both is to use another app to add the battery to the taskbar. Currently I use SPB's Pocket Plus 4. Also there is another one that is actually a start menu replacement but can be used just for the battery icon. That app can be found here ..... http://tillanosoft.com/ce/smenu.html
QuickMenu, amongst other things, will add a battery indicator w/ % status to the start menu in conjunction with the WM6 provided clock. Best thing is, it's free and will come up easily when searched for on Google.
edit: It's similar to smittyofdhs's proggie, but newer.

Use reshack to edit phcanbmp.dll and remove the network icons from it. That will effectively work for what you're seeking.

My bad, it's phcanOverbmp.dll. Open that up in reshack (aka resource hacker), expand the 'icons' tree and you can choose to either replace them with a blank icon (recommended, I don't have any available, search for it) or delete it. As for which icons are which, that's self explanatory once you're in the app.
Hope this helps!

If you're using the stock AT&T 1.62 ROM, you are correct, there are no 3G icons found.
So, find one of the cabs that installs a new one and then edit the new phcanOverbmp.dll.

Give it a try. Even if you can't get it working, the worst thing that happens is you've wasted an hour and learned a lot Read more about reshacker too, it's powerful and can be used on Windows DLLs too, not just WinCE...
ahh...i give up...i cant find a phcanOverbmp.dll with the icons even it in....
