SKSchema Program to check for connectivity before action - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I wrote a program with SKSchema that check for an activesync or Lan connection, and if neither exists, shuts off GSM before running a program. The idea is to permit a program to have broadband access but not megabytes. Here it is:
#r(#chkasconnection)
#r(#iftrue) #p(1)
#r(#chkwlan)
#r(#iftrue) #p(1)
#r(#yesno) #p(Turn GSM Off?) #rmr(0) #rmt(10000)
#r(#iffalse) #p(1)
#r(#GSMOff)
#r(#label) #p(1)
#r(\Storage Card\Program Files\NewsBreak\NewsBreak.exe)
This program first checks for an activesync connection; if true jumps to the last line. Otherwise it checks for a wifi connection and if true jumps to the last line. Otherwise, it asks if the user would like to turn off the GSM, and unless the answer is no (within ten seconds) it turns off the GSM, and then runs the program.
This prevents the program from looking for the GPRS, which is slow and expensive, but permitting data access on wifi or activesync.

IE on Wing WIFI connects with GPRS. I'm confused.

I have had my wing for just a few days, so I am still learning what it can do.
I can easily connect to my home wireless router and have a strong signal. When I open IE, the wing starts loading a GPRS signal and then I get a default page with a tmobile splash and a search box. When I try to enter www.google.com it just sits there.
I dont think something is correct. I want to browse the internet directly with IE on the wing with my wifi.
I do not have a internet or data plan of any kind.
It does have WM6.
Any ideas?
Are you sure that you've achieved a connection with your router?
Go into your WIFI settings, and make sure you have acquired an IP address... the little antenna icon may show up at the top, but you may not be fully connected.
In WIFI settings, configure says i'm connected.
In network adapters, SDIO Wlan shows "use server assigned address" checked,
and it has a IP address in it.
Am I in the right place?
Just spent some time with tech support on a landline. Fixed the problem in a wifi configuration menu. Changed it from "work" to "internet".
Done.
I can stop beating my head on the wall now.

How to force wifi when available?

Ok, this was working fine on the original AT&T ROM, but since I flashed to dutty's ROM, I cant get it to work. How do I force the phone to use wifi for net access when wifi is turned on, as opposed to medianet? Currently, I have to keep manually switching from medianet to "my work connection" in connection settings.
You can use Kaiser Tweak to set it to disconnect the GPRS connection after a set amount of minutes of inactivity. Then, when you enable WiFi, it should connect ONLY to WiFi.
I think the OP needs to sort out his "work" and his "internet" instead of just trying to turn off radio data.
I have medianet set to internet and my wifi set to work...not really clear what "work" is....just want to automatically use wifi when wifi is connected, and cant find the option to do that.
Anybody???
I did set both connections to "work".
Additionally I added my tmobile gprs connection to the work profile.
All seems to work great.
I can acces my network shares over wifi and connect to the internet. When no wifi is available it connects via gprs.
I keep getting confused on this same issue. i installed the same rom we are talking about. it shows up for me when setting up email accounts. with my wifi turned on, it still tries to go out the 3g connection. I want it to use wifi if that is what is turned on and i think that was working on the death star rom. For the drop down that says "The Internet" I basically want that to point to wifi if on then fall back to 3g. How do we do that?
It should not be named "work".
So whats the solution here?
Under Connections....Select which networks are automatically used:
Programs that connect to the internet should connect using ???
I can either choose Medianet or my work network, I'd like for it to use wifi when available, how is this done?
Programs that connect to a private network should connect using ???
I have this set to my work network.
Easy Solution to 'Auto Wifi"
Buy an Iphone, works seemlessly, and you get a browser too which works, something these HTC phones havn't had in 3 years.
The easiest way to force wifi (since gprs can be acting as a ***** ), is to keep wlan enabled and to install the NOGPRS.cab (aka the modaco nodata plugin) which allows you to disable (but keep) the gprs settings and which you can toggle on (and back off) when needed.
Great little app, saves much annoyance!
Is there an easy way to toggle wi-fi on/off, that can be assigned to an icon or button? At the moment I have to open Comm Manager each time and do it from there.

S730 as Modem

I would like to connect my S730 to my laptop (Windows XP) via USB, and then use the S730 as a modem for a dial-up connection. That means using a connectoid on the laptop to specify the phone number. I can do this with other cellphones. For my JasJar (WM 5 for Pocket PC Phone Edition), I needed a driver for the laptop and then need to use the Wireless Modem on the JasJar. For my Cingular 3125 (WM 5 for Smartphone), I need to Activate the modem connection. I haven't found a way with my S730. "Internet Sharing" seems to let a laptop share a connection initiated on the S730, which means the S730 has all the settings, including the phone number where appropriate (this is definitely not as clear as I would like:-(
Thanks.
That is how it works. Internet sharing...then make sure all of your settings are correct...then connect. Worked fine for me...better than the dial-up way with WM5.
Yeah, its extreemly simple, just connect your phone to the computer and make sure the computer registers the connection, can close or minimize ative sync if it pops up. Then on your phone open Internet Sharing, connection should be USB, and Network Connection should be whatever your network offers. Then hit connect. Give it a few seconds and your online.
Used this feature several times while on vacation during the holidays. Got about 20kb's down max (Edge)
Thank you for your replies. But I'm pretty sure your solution is not what I want. My ISP has dial-up service that can be convenient when I'm traveling (definitely slow, but good enough). So that is what I want to access. And I do not have any sort of network/data service from my T-Mobile. So I really want to use the connectoid on my laptop that lets me specify the phone number and enter the password on my laptop.
I'm not sure the S730 can act as a dial up modem?
I see what your saying, and as is I do not believe the phone can do it as it comes from the box. You would have to find a way to have your phone while connected to the computer also show up as a modem option for you to use it that way.
If you have the dial up numbers from your ISP why not just get a phone cord and plug it in while your on the road? Most laptops still come with built in modems which is what your after.
There might be some applications out there that allow you to configure a connection to use the phone as a dial up modem, but I honestly havent heard of any (havnt looked either soooo)
You also might try finding wifi hotspots and doing what was already suggested. Then you get DSL through your phone on the computer, or if the computer has a wifi card...
S730 as Modem: Success!
Well, I gave up on my original quest, but found something close enough. All settings on the S730.
First, I set up a Dial-up connection that dials my ISP, and set it to connect to The Internet.
Then I set Connection Sharing to use USB for the PC Connection and the Dial-up connection for the Network Connection. Press Connect, connect the cable, and my laptop is on-line!!
Not needing to add software to my laptop is nice. Typing my password on the cell phone rather than laptop is not so nice. But that is being fussy.
So, thanks for the help. It actually did prod and guide me to a good solution.
Useful when other options are unavailable, pricey, or less convenient.

3G on the Diamond

I am trying to setup my Diamond so 3G only connects when I want it to. I've added the 3G button to the comm manager. Even with this set to off it reconnects when the web browser is opened.
I also have the advanced config manager installed with the Auto GRPS set to disabled but still the 3G connects automatically.
Does anyone have the same problem and/or know a fix?
It will connect whenever anything requests data, as far as I know, there's no way to stop this.
Thought there may be a hidden setting maybe in the registry that could stop this. It is annoying that the comm manager says 3G is off yet there is data connection after loading up the browser. And I'm sure it just connects even without actively requesting a data connection through the browser.
What happens when you set both options in Connections to use "My Work Network" and set your WLAN as your Work Network?
use no data
then this way you don't start it unless you want it to
hope this helps

Use no data? Am I missing something or is this as simple as it sounds!? Are you suggesting that by not using programs requiring data then I will not activate the 3G connection?
It certainly is a shame that upon activating a program requiring a data connection that you cannot select the source of this data ie. 3G, wifi etc or just cancel the request entirely.
if you want it to use wifi, simply connect to wifi before you launch the application. Windows Mobile is very different from Symbian in that way (Symbian will ask for each app).

Multiple Simultaneous 3G/HSDPA Connections - how to disconnect only one of them?

I have BlackBerry Connect installed on my phone which obviously uses its own HSDPA/3G/GPRS connection. I also have a Vodafone HSDPA/3G/GPRS connection I added manually. I have made the registry changes to allow multiple simultaneous HSDPA/3G/GPRS connections and this works fine - BlackBerry Connect uses its own connection and if I launch PIE the Vodafone connection opens up and I can browse the Internet using the Vodafone one.
When I have finished browsing however I would prefer to disconnect the Vodafone connection (I am not sure if I get charged for usage?). When I click the 'H' or '3G' icon at the top of the screen next to the phone signal icon I can see both the BlackBery & Vodafone connections connected however there is only a single 'Disconnect' button that when clicked disconnects both connections. I would prefer to leave the BlackBerry one connected. Is this possible?
Cheers

You have two connections open to the same provider? That sound like nonsense to me. Unless the Tilt can use two separate SIM cards at the same time, which I believe you have to switch between them rather than two at the same time, this sound like nonsense.

No, not nonsense at all. I originally thought as you did that I could only have either the BBConnect HSDPA/3G/GPRS or the Vodafone HSDPA/3G/GPRS connection active but not both at the same time (but then searched...). After some research I found that this was possible depending on you provider. Take a look at these threads:

The key word here is 'GPRSContextNumber'. EDIT: Actually search on 'Multiple APN' and you get even more hits...
Anyway back to my original question... Is there anyway to disconnect only one HSDPA/3G/GPRS connection instead of all active ones?

Close Network Connections
Hi,
Your post is old, but maybe you're still interested:
I have the same configuration with BBConnect and also wanted to close only the "other" data connection. Long search, no finding.
What I do now is I have an assignment to the red key long press to close all Internet Connections. This kills all non Wifi connections, also the BB. But BB re-establishes after some seconds on its own.
Have you found a better way?
BTW: it makes great sense to open several data connections on the same provider (if you have BB at least).
