Most stable ROM - 2.17, Offical Cingular 2.25, other? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Looking for the most stable ROM out there. Have searched and read up but doesn't seem to be a clear-cut winner. I currently run 2.17 and was doing well, but after 5 months it seems to be ready to poop out ... lock-ups, reboots, etc. Wondering rather I should just hard-reset and keep 2.17 or go to Cingular 2.25 offical.
Thoughts?

try molski's ROM,is the best one so far, or shogumark's 1st beta ROM(ala_carte)....still waiting though for the final release.

Thanks for the feedback. Any preferred link to molski's ROM (there seem to be a few threads)? Also, does this one contain the Cingular extended ROM components, etc?
Thanks!

I'm very happy with Molski's ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=274316) and waiting for Shogumark final release...

i would also recommend Molski's ROM its excellent never had any problems with it particularly if you use it with OMAPplus so u can easily overclock your device. You can get the ROM direct from his site www.molski.biz just make sure you follow the instructions about checking if yours is a G3 or G4 device

Sounds good. Anyone know where I can get the contents of the Cingular extended ROM? I would like to have the various Cingular items (XpressMail, etc). as I actually use them quite often.

im pretty sure there is a cingular settings cab on the FTP so their may also be the extended rom stuff on their too best bet is looking around see what you can find or maybe pm another cingular user?

New to the 8125, confused on which version to upgrade to.

Well im getting my 8125 in a few days and i want to figure this out before i get it. Ive been reading the topics on this board and have found that there are a couple different roms available to update to. The ones i have seen are the 2.25 and the aku 2.3. Also i have seen a link to HTC's site that has an update available which i think is the 2.25 one through cingular. And finally i have seen the direct push update from cingular, is this the same as 2.25 or is a seperate thing that also needs to be downloaded? from what ive read on the forum it seems as if the aku 2.3 is the better one to go to so if i installed that would i also need to install the direct push update from cingular? Thanks for the help, just a little confused about it.

The AKU 2.3 ROM, as well as the 2.25 version from Cingular both have Direct Push. Anything that is AKU 2.0 and above has DP.
excuse my noobishness, but what is Direct Push?
If you're new to the Wizard and trying to pick a ROM to try, I'd suggest one of the following based on your carrier:
T-Mobile US - Download one of Xelencin's ROMs
Cingular - You want one of Summiter's creations
If you are overseas and use a different carrier, or just want a barebones ROM to customize the way you see fit, grab Mr. Clean.
Since you say you've got an 8125, I'm guessing that you're on Cingular in the US. In that case, stick with Summiter's latest as it will be a plug-and-play solution for you.
would i still need to download the direct push from microsoft if i downloaded summiters or is it built in?

Summiter's lastest is 2.3 so no further downloads needed for DP.
New question since it looks like summiter just released an updated 2.3. Do i need the update that has the bootloader or the one with no bootloader? Thanks again

If you already have AKU 2.3 then you do not need to update the BL, read his post, read it again, he says it in there! =) <-- all smiles man
this is probably a dumb question but what does AKU stand for? Its a brand new phone so i doubt it has aku 2.3 on there so im assuming i need to install the one with the bootloader. Thanks

Most Stable Rom with Fastest Boot?

Which ROM(s) can boot as quick as 2.25 and is the most stable? I am using 2.25 and don't like it because of the dropped calls issue. I've used 2.17 but the reboot times are attrocius.
TIA
You can try my Rom from www.molski.biz
It's a T-Mobile 2.26.10.2 Rom, but then Cleaned from all the T-Mobile stuff.
You can find the description/details of what is in the Extended Rom of my Rom on the page where my Roms are.

I've been using Gamescan's Mr. Clean AKU 2.3 for a couple months now on an 8125 using TMO. It's very stabe, has excellent reception, and is very fast.
At first one finds a shorter battery life. However, after a week or so, the battery life seems to get back to normal.
I have had the least issues with this ROM. I never have to soft reset.
molski how to enter your site?
I know it's a dummy question, but I can see only homepage - no option to proceed (IE & Firefox checked)
In the left frame (under the logo) you should see a Java Pulldown Menu. There you can navigate on my website.
If it doesn't work here are 2 links directly to the Rom Files
2.26.10.2 Dutch Rom
2.26.10.2 WWE Rom
Regards,
Molski
p.s. All my websites work in IE and FF on my laptop
Maybe it's a MS Java issue, it doesn't like original Sun's release (I've got both on my PC)
Thank you very much for the links :!:
My website should work with the Sun Java Packages. I also use Sun Java instead of MS Java.
But for now you got 2 direct links to the files you want
Molski
I have installed Molski's ROM into my Vodafone VPA Comtact II and I think it is the best one that I have ever seen until now.
Thanks guy!
Qtek or one of the other brand's?
Hi
Did you changed the T-mobile to Qtek branding on this Rom?
All the programs on the Qtek original Rom are available on this one?
Do you notice any Speed increase running programs like Igo or Tom tom, in my standard Qtek Rom 2.17 the GPS programs seem a bit slow.

You can get the latest version [version 2 I think] of .NET Compact Framework at freecabs.de it will be in a .cab format, so just download it via wi-fi on your PPC or to your PC, then Active sync and copy file to your device or storage card. Execute the file from the device.

Suggested ROM Upgrade for MDA Vario?

Hi there,
I have a T-Mobile MDA Vario and I'm interested in upgrading the ROM in it. These are the details displayed on the flash screen when i turn it on:
IPL: 1.06
SPL: 1.06
GSM: 01.12.10
OS: 1.6.2.4
From what I've read, I can assume this is a G3 model (which makes my life easier)
Can people tell me what is the most recent upgrade I can install? I don't care if the ROM is not T-Mobile.
Thanks!

Yes you do have a G3 which like you said will make your life easier. The first thing you need to do is spend some time reading. Only after becoming totally familiar with the process should you flash your phone.

Thanks for confirming that I have a G3 rkwyte2 - from what I've read, there seem to be a lot more roms out there for that revision of the software. I'm not going to go doing anything to my phone too quickly - I can see from other threads that you can seriously mess things up if I don't go about this job properly.
I'm tempted to upgrade to the latest Qtek flash - that way I'm independent of the various carriers out there. Does this sound like a good idea? Do people rate one flash over another? If so, what do people recommend?
Thanks

I think everyone has their personal favorite. I have used many different ROMs and they all have good and not so good points. I really like Molski's latest 2.6 ROM it is very nice and would most likely fit what you want. The thread is quite long for that one but the first page has most everything you need as far as info goes.

I checked out Molski's website and his ROM looks interesting. Would you say that the offical ROMs are more/less stable than homebrew ROMs?

That is hard to say really. I can't tell the difference between them except that the custom ROMs usually have extras built into them.

vilem great find!
does the upgrade to 3.08 make a difference compared to the 2.26 that comes from US T-mobile? this wouldn't effect the usability of the custom roms, since they only update the OS and not the IPL/SPL/RADIO, right?

IPL/SPL update is not that important, but the ROM is a T-Mobile.
This one update to
IPL/SPL 3.08
Radio 2.69
AKU 3.3
...........
It's English...I've flashed it.
Any thoughts on the rom? How stable is it? Free memory etc. Thanx in advance.
-It's stable ,fast and add HTC X Button,Streaming Media,SoftKey and remove t-zones,hotspot.Storage:47.46M free 40.02,Program :44.01,free:19.90.
such a nice rom, so less reply, why?
I flashed this rom to my Qtek9100, it works very smoothly so far, why so less reply to this rom? you guys all flashed to WM6 already?
I flashed this as my base for a WM6 rom. I downloaded it last week. It was linked in the German AKU 3.3 tmobile thread.

I tried it for a little bit, it's stable but tends to be slow, I can't run everything I want without resources getting dangerously low. So, I use it as a base ROM. I also tried a number of WM6 ROMs, but I can't live with the missed call issue with any radio ROM above 2.19. So I use Faria's WM5 3.3. It's the most stable and fast WM5 ROM I've found.
i only ended up flashing this as a base rom to go back to before flashing to a custom rom. took the spl/ipl and the radio, since it was official t-mobile and flashed straight to xm6. the rom seemed to look nicer, lotsa new programs, relatively stable...everything wasn't in english for the wwe...didn't know what studeni meant (it was in the calendar part).
anyway, overall, a good rom to flash back to, rather than constantly going back to the us t-mobile 2.26
I installed this ROM earlier today - seems to be okay, but a call did go straight to voicemail earlier - I was watching the phone and there was no indication of a call at all! I may possibly downgrade the Radio ROM to 2.25 later.
I previously had the official TMobile (USA) 2.26 ROM installed on my MDA and loved the blue dialer. This one appears to be white with pink buttons. Can someone please tell me how to get the blue one back?
Also, how easy would it be to install the Comm Manager from the 2.26 ROM?
Many Thanks!
Loaded this one this morning.
Took a lot of tweaking to get all of the normal MDA tweaks on.
Also lots of extra mods to get rid of/change the Croatian config to US.
Ran into a major show stopper this afternoon. Tried to change sort on 800+ contacts from by name to by company. MDA pretty much just locked up. Could not scroll. Could not select by letter. Had to soft reset to un-freeze.
Also, no HTML e-mail. Old MS Office.
As soon as I get time, will be trying some other version of WM6. Maybe time for Faria's!
Checked About in settings last night.
This release is WM5. Argh!
I flashed last week.But it drain battery.So i come back 2.26 USA T-Mobile ROM.
Battery Drain
I did notice the battery drain with the 2.69 radio, but I flashed back to the 2.40 radio that has been working so well for me and the battery drain is back to the rate it was when I had the 2.26 rom with 2.40 radio on it.
As for the dialer.... try the operator skin registry edit below....
Remove operator skin from Phone app
If your device's Phone app is skinned, you can remove by setting:
HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin\Enabled = 0 (DWORD decimal)
Similarly, you can restore it with:
HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin\Enabled = 1 (DWORD decimal)
Found it in the wiki.

Newbie - Looking For A Good ROM - Compact IV (UK)

I have a T-Mobile Compact IV and the original ROM is 1.37.110.3 WWE. Can anyone point put any cooked ROM's that will write over my original ROM.
I have already flashed to SPL-1.40.Olinex and changed radio to 1.00.25.05 (Don't see much difference). My Protocol Version is 52.29.25.12U
Any advice is greatly appreciated as I cannot find any ROM's for my original configuration.
Cheers.

Cheers Lads, thaks for the help.
I only asked the question as I thought only certain cooked ROM's worked with certain original ROM's. I had seen mention of other ROM's but never seen my 1.37.110.3 WWE.
Thanks again.
100% Choose Swiftblades V6.0 Rom`
Hi there
I have the TMobile MDA Compact IV and realised the OEM Rom was very very laggy. I didnt like the pink and white so decided to install a cooked rom.
I have tried them all on this site and without the shadow of a doubt,
"SWIFTBLADE" V6.0 rom is 'THE BEST'
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408109
(thats the link to the ROM - I recommend the FULL version.
Its lightening fast and so so stable. I havent had to soft reset my device since getting rid of the stock TMobile Rom and I heavily abuse it every day!!!!
Its so close to the HTC 1.93 stock rom but has the best performance tweaks installed. What I liked the best about Swift's rom is that the things he took out of the 1.93 rom, you can install as provided cabs, so he has left the rom pretty much to the individual taste of the end user.
Dont waste your time with the rest, Install Swift's Rom and know you have the BEST of the BEST!!
Good Luck.
Geoff (UK)
I also have Panosha's ROM (my first) and i can say it is undoubtly fast, but i am definately going to try more ROMs to see if there are are 'better' ones!

In my book it has to be between Shine on (panosha) and Belite (bepe). to me these two cheifs are the heavy weights on xda...!
I got my MDA IV the day they were released and flashed it straight away. I've tried nearly all ROMS available via this forum and have settled on Dutty's. Currently at version 1.8 and can highly recommend it.
I prefer it over others down to some neat little touches, one being the icon spacing. He has them 3 to a row vice 4 on most (including stock) meaning that when on the move you hit the one you want first time.
I suppose it comes down to what you feel good with and whether or not a certain cook removes or keeps in what you feel you want on your phone.

You can do this either by using the common tweak tools or directly in the registry...
I also tried several ROMS but finally got stucked to panoshas ROM. It is fast and slim. It also contains the latest OS and apps.
I am waiting for Bepes 1.0 Final...
Gonna give it a try because it will be in my language
