I really like the included HTC Task Manager as it is, particularly what I really like is the popup menu when on the home screen that allows you to close some or all apps or jump to any running minimized apps.
The functionality I want added is so simple I wouldn't be surprised if it's already there and I'm missing it.
I want the X button to close apps as normal, but if I tap and hold the X button I want it to bring up the Task Manager popup, in ALL programs.
The reason is I really want an easy way for switching between minimized apps and the Task Manager popup is the perfect simple way to do it but I have to be at the today screen to bring it up. If I could be in Word, tap and hold, then switch to a minimized Excel sheet it would be much easier than having to hit the home button then bring up the task switcher. I've tried alot of 3rd party task manager apps but they either don't do what I want or add too much complexity to what should be a simple task changing app.
Does this function already exist or has somebody made a cab that extends the Task Manager dropdown to all programs that have an X?
I been wondering the exact same thing but have not found the answer as of yet during my search.
Anyone?
Thanks
lakeridgesoftware wisbar lite is a good apps for htc taskmgr replacement but will cost lil' money

Hi, i'm deciding what to do with my task manager. (on stock WM6.1 HTC H3G Aus Rom)
At present im simply using the HTC Task Manager 1.51 (build 33547) but am aware that there is 2.1 around.
Currently i have to toggle back to the today screen to switch applications and i have it set to click X to close the application. (i dont know whether or not apps use more resources if they are left open and not set to run in the background, any ideas?)
I want to know what others are using or their thoughts/experiences on these other Task managers. gleaned from Vibranze post here

HTC seems to improve ONLY the look and feel of their task manager from version to version so upgrading to a new version of HTC task manager will give you a different, possibly improved, look and feel. also, if you intend to use manila (2d or 3d), you'll need to use a newer version of HTC task manager.
finally, search for "Task Facade" developed right here on xda by gps-lover. its an EXCELLENT task manager that i suggest you map to the PTT button...makes "visual" task switching a breeze!
TaskFascade looks interesting. Does it disable the HTC Taskmanager?
I use WK Task and swear by it. It creates a PC type program manager and launcher on your phone. Has many more features and is very customizable.

nope! thats the beauty of it...you get to keep HTC's task manager (with its tap "x" to kill or tap and hold "x" to kill functionality as well as its presence in the home screen) while task facade can be invoked just by pressing the hot key you've assigned to it (i use the short press of the PTT button)
not 100% sure but i think task facade can work with ANY task manager that sits in the home screen (such task managers usually take over the "x" button functionality)
I use QuickMenu+DotFred's TaskMgr.exe, check this post for the way to associate them.
From QuickMenu, you got a task switcher, communication manager, commandline utility, RAM releaser, a lot of useful shortcuts and a real time indicator of battery + available RAM. And it is a very lite tool uses around 130kb RAM on running.
As to DotFred's Taskmanager:

A lot of long time member and cooks have DotFred's Taskamanager in the toolkit.
Some Taskmanagers do not show ALL running programs.
Dot Fred's does more, shows Processes that can be enalbed and disabled at Start or stop them actively. Has a registry editor, Notification editor, can parse Provisioning xml files and even register DLL files. It's a Tweakers dream.

I also use VJOkbutt, I set the function of 'X' button to 'short press to minimize & long press to close'. I use HButton to map the Ok button work in this way: just press = minimize (the ok/close function in hbutton actually = short press 'X'), press & hold half second = close (VJOkButt), hold another half second = end others (brought by QuickMenu), another more half second = end all (from QM), and another half second = soft reset (by QM or TaskMgr), and then the last function = Today (by QM or HButton).
To switch tasks, just using QM.
How can I assign a hot key to Task Facade? Can't find any config tool or menu...

Is it possible if I want to create a shortcut for reboot by using better cut app? and also how do I remove the time field located on the notification bar?
Im not sure how/if Better cut can create a shortcut to reboot feature.
Depend on the rom you are using, hold down power key for 3 seconds and there might be reboot feature in there
If not you need to get Gscript
or
You can also buy a great programnamed: Root Booter
I don't think the time can be removed yet out of the bar.
Does anyone know some program for WM6.1 which give me ability to drag and move icons under start menu and setting menu!?
I think that it is a great idea for PDAs..
Search for Start menu manager...
I created a task which show the "Popup task buttons", but unfortunately the default window which popups is really too small. I tried to manually resize the layout but the result was a true mess: the buttons size and position behave erratically between the Scene editor and the real window which popup. Any idea?
Hard to tell what is happening without seeing how you are trying to resize. I have attached a modified pop-up task button scene. You could import this into your tasker and see if it is closer to what you want.
To import the modified scene, put it in a scenes subdirectory within the Tasker folder on your device, which is usually:
Code:
/sdcard/tasker/scenes/
The scene name can be changed I've imported. These days, I tend to add my user name to prevent import issues due to name space collisions.
I've made only small a change so I can try to get an idea as to what you want. Showing a picture of what the stock scene is doing that you want to fix might help.
Thanks for your reply. What I'd like to get is something like this:
https://ibb.co/WkSSs3K
but if I create this in Scene Editor, what I get in the real task is this
https://ibb.co/ncgNZbP
Obviously I am missing something here but what?
When you tried to resize the buttons, did you use the resize touch mode (hand icon -> resize) or did you try to drag in either the default normal touch mode (hand icon -> normal) or edit touch mode (hand icon -> edit)? It's easier to control using the resize and move touch modes. But, in order to enter the element editor, it helps to be in normal touch mode.
There is a magnifying glass at the lower right. Tapping that will toggle between the editor (default - magnifying glass will display a minus sign) and display (default - magnifying glass will display a plus sign). When in the editor, the scene is often zoomed in which can change how the scene appears.
If it helps, I've attached a scene modified similar to your first picture.
I really don't know what is going on here, but something odd is happening.
I create a simple task using your layout (which is exactly what I'd like to get), but when I actually run the preview of the task i see this instead.
https://ibb.co/n00VqhH
This behaviour is the same with almost every layout I create: I see an image in the scene editor and a totally different one when I run the task.
Any ideas?

I have no idea. Could you post your task that displays this scene. For help find that, please see this post.
Also, what device and OS is this?

Sorry. This is a little different task because I deleted the previous one, but the behavior is exactly the same.
Ahhh, I see. Try using this scene, but use a display scene action. Make sure to have an action in the task or the tasks associated with pop-up buttons, which destroys the scene when you're done.
Thanks. I used "Display scene" instead of "Popup task button" and now it works as expected.
The pop-up button action "should" work. Unfortunately, Tasker's current developer has made it clear he will not support the built in scenes. I'm guessing there will be a day where the scenes become even more problematic and we'll be forced to AutoTools web scenes.
«rant»I have spent days trying to convert one of my many custom scenes to a web scene. You need html, css, and JavaScript plus an understanding of how to set and receive variables back and forth. It's second to impossible to develop on the device. Which at least in my case means I can't tweak when in at the doctors office or hospital with my son. And I rarely have time to sit on the computer at home «/rant»
