I have my buttons disabled apart from the on/off button so that the XDAIIi will not switch on accidentally, when a button is pressed while in my pocket. However, when a new txt message is received the XDAIIi switches on. Is there a registry entry or any other method of not allowing the XDAIIi to switch on on receipt of a new txt message?

Ok I have a XDA2i from o2 I have removed the o2 bits as per this forum.
However every now and then the screen will illuminate all on its own, which is a problem when in your pocket as things start operating as keys etc touch the screen.
Any ideas on why and how to stop it...
before you say it yes the keylock is set!
unfortunatly i dont know any way to stop this from happening.
When you recieve a TXT or a voice call it turns the screen on automatically.
the only solution i found to prevent me from activating programs etc is to turn the device password on, set it to 1 minute so everytime your PDA wakes itself up in yur pocket it cannot do anything except press password keys.
tks i guess that will help.
however the point is it is turning itself on and there is no reason ie no txt or phone call!
Press and hold in the power button, and that should turn the screen off until you turn it back on.
I have an XDA IIi from O2, and I use button lock when its in my pocket. However, when I receive a message the button lock is turned off... This ends up with me coming to the device in my pocket on some random page or program that has been started whilst its in my pocket...
This is really annoying, does anyone know how to prevent button lock from coming off when I receive a message?
Thanks.
P.S. - just typed this on my XDA in the middle of a lecture!
Its a real pain in the ass !!
Only solution i found is to turn on the password, set it to 3 mins or so.
That way if you get a message it will only find its way to the password input screen
WM5 just beeps and flashes the light on sms, I wonder if this is a registry thing we can change?
I am running On Farias Rom. I noticed that before, when i pressed the "end" button, it would minimize the program. Now when i press the end button it disconnects me from my GPRS connection. Is there any way to stop this? With the older roms, i would only be disconnected from GPRS is i HELD the end button down for a couple of seconds. Now it disconnects me immediately after i press the end button. This poses some problem for my instant messaging programs which require an active connection. This problem is NOT solved by keeping the GPRS always on. All that setting does is reconnect me to the GPRS when i get disconnected (by pressing the end button). Is there any way to reverse this so that i only disconnect if i HOLD down the end button?
this is starting to make sense now. This is why i have to hit end twice to get back to the home screen. annoying...

I also have Faria's ROM and could not duplicate your issue. I am not saying you aren't experiencing it, just that whether I am at the today screen or in a program and I hit the "end" key (red phone icon, right?) it either takes me back to the today screen or if I am already there makes the phone beep at me.
When I held it for a few seconds it did terminate the GPRS connection, but then it kicked right back in again. I have registry wizard set to "always on GPRS"
Sorry I can't actually help...
But that's also another thing. I don't want it ALWAYS on. I need it on when i am using it. But when i am using it, i don't want it to disconnect GPRS when i press the end button. It should only disconnect from GPRS if i HOLD down the end button (yes, the red telephone key). Having my GPRS always on, and the window that keeps popping up to tell me that it is reconnecting after i ended a phone call or stopped the gprs connection gets rather annoying. Not to mention the gigantic battery drain it is to have the connection on 247
If you do not want to disconnect GPRS with the END (call) button, you can set the value of the following registry key to 1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\(GPRS connection name)\AlwaysOn
Thanx a tonn man
Thanx for the registry key value... I am a noob, you actually saved me. I was just about to flash my current ROM just because the registry value is set to 0. & the gprs DISCONNECTS AFTER PRESSING red button. tHANX A LOT.
CHEERS...
Hi folks,
does somebody know how I can prevent my kaiser (t-mobile vario III) from powering on when the keyboard slides out? This happens a lot when it is in the pocket of my trousers....
thanks
Werner
... to use a case...
ok, but thats near removing the battery before putting it in the pocket...
first press and hold the hang-up button so that it locks. Then just push the power button once. This puts it in standby. Then just configure the standby timeout when not on external power, and you're set.
how is it about aktivating the lock function?

When I hold the hang-up button my phone doesn't lock.
Holding hang-up button ("red phone" key) does lock the unbranded, HTC Kaiser. Dunno about Tilt or other branded phone
the vpa device of kaiser with german rom doesnt have this problem i read in ppc-world forums. so its just a reg key or a cab installed at branding. so lets get a solution
Holding the red phone end key on the Tilt simply ends your data connection.

and on the HTC branded Kaiser, it locks the device and does NOT end the data connection .. so I tend to agree, there must be some registry setting to change this.
On the MDA Vario III holding the red button for a few secs ends the data connection, a few secs longer locks the device. best of both worlds I guess.
Is there a way to let the Tomtom navigator screen come back (main screen)
when a phone call gets connected?
Now the phone pad stays in view and I have to shut it down with X or hang up the phone then it gets back automaticly.
Or is there a program how can do this for me, so minimize phonepad on connection and Tomtom screen in front...
On WM5 this worked with no problems
I miss this feature too.
On my Ipaq 6945 (WM5) tomtom screen popped up as soon as the call connected. But on the Kaiser it's bit of a hassle to get the tomtom screen to the front.
I would expect if you mapped a button to a task manager, you could use it to switch back to the tomtom app. I have a button mapped to this... I'll test it out when I have a chance.
I did test it, and it does work. I'm using AE Button plus to map multiple functions to various buttons. I have a double-click of the windows start button mapped to switch to the next application, and a press-hold mapped to bring up the AE task manager. Either one works: double-clicking toggles between the open apps, and press/hold brings up the task manager with a list of apps, and clicking on the desired app brings that one to the front. In either case, the phone call stays active, but I'm able to toggle the screen between the phone app, and TomTom.
