Hello,
I found a lot of random posts about upgrading Wizard from English ROM to Chinese, but i can't find a comprehensive one for beginners.
The thing i want to accomplish is to be able to read CHT file names, CHT song titles, view CHT websites etc. The OS itself doesn't need to be CHT, in fact, i prefer it stays in English. What's the most straight forward way to get this result? (some kind of language pack like in Windows XP?)
If I end up having to change the OS from English to Chinese, will the hard reset feature continue to work (restore the CHT OS to a clean state, rather than restore it back to ENG OS)? Can someone point me to a comprehensive post about how to step by step change from ENG OS to CHT? I have the unlocked Cingular 8125 phone.
Thanks a lot

I have a self-cooked .CAB file that can bring a WWE device into CHS compatible (with CHS display and Chinese Region selection for IE) without the needs of ROM-Upgrading, but, although it can display traditional Chinese character, it's not CHT.
to find CHT rom, you should go http://bbs.pdafans.com where you can find many thing you want.

Hi All
I wonder if anyone can give me some advice.
I’ve recently bought a T-mobile MDA here in Shanghai – I guess it’s come from Germany as all the accompanying packaging and brochures are in German. The guy in the shop has kindly installed an English ROM – branded with O2. I’d prefer to not have the O2 branding but will live with it if it remains stable.
Following are installed:
IPL 1.05
SPL 1.05
GSM 01.09.10
OS 1.5.4.2
I guess the question I need to know is, is it worth it to update to a more stable ROM?
I’m not looking at tweaking the machine extensively but it would be nice to have a more stable machine – I have experienced it crashing a few times and wonder if I would be best to install a new ROM to make it more stable?
I don’t want to install extensive programs and tweaks – as soon as I can get a stable machine I would like to keep adjustments to the minimum.
The machine also has a demo version of CE Star installed which I suppose I would lose if I install a new ROM? I can download this from the net anyway so not a problem. I need all the Chinese support so I can send texts etc in Chinese. I also have a piece of software called plecodict installed which is a Chinese language dictionary.
I’ll use the machine mainly for making phone calls, Chinese language learning with plecodict and listening to mp3’s along with the occasional snap.
Is it worth upgrading for a more stable machine? Any recommendations?
Also, I want to know, if I do a hard reset will it go back to the factory setting with the German ROM? Or will it reset back to the English 1.5.4.2 as detailed above?
Many thanks in advance
IMHO, You have the best rom. To make it faster and more stable just remove O2Active,- do the HardReset, and miss the customizing (SoftReset device in the very beginning of customization). Then you can install any programms you want from Extended_Rom using Total Commander.
Everyone is looking forward to WM6 roms but there's not even a german WM5 ROM out that has GPS enabled.
Is it possible, given a romdump from a GPS-enabled german device, to make a ROM with at least parts of the localized features (keyboard, character recognition)?
I know you can't simply flash the romdump but could it help for making a cooked german ROM?
Update: I just saw that a way was found to reconstruct the ROM from a romdump on Hermes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1165148
Would this help?

I'd like to know this too. Cause the non-german keyboard is a real drawback... before i used transcriber which is useless too now.
I found another thread that might help us. Well at least partially:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1165397
The title is "German Input (formally known as German Language Changer) - WM5 and WM6 Support" and it's for Hermes.
The file changes the ROM in a way that at least keyboard, spellcheck and word suggestions are german. Personally I don't mind the english OS, just the english keyboard and word recognition.
If anyone knows how to create this for Trinity, I would forever be in their debt.
Hi Mates
Please Help Me To Change My Wiza 200 Language To Chinese From English Please Help Me
Thankyou
You can either look for a Chinese ROM or an English ROM with additional apps supporting Chinese font so you can read SMS or input Chinese.
Depending on the apps you may not be able to support Chinese characters on all level (e.g. Chinese webpages are not shown correctly).
Look for StarkWong, he has something worked out for himself ...
Use the search function and you will find the necessary links ...
Cheers!
There are Chinese WM5 official ROMs, so if you don't need WM6, just CID Unlock or HardSPL/SoftSPL (Depending on G3 or G4 DoC chip) and flash that version.
For WM6, you can use my Chinese support for viewing and entering Traditional Chinese. For Traditional Chinese MUI, contact me via PM.

cht works on wizard, x51v and 8525(Hermes) but failed hx4700 wm6.1
Hi Stark,
Thanks for your release of CHT patches. It works on my x51v wm6, wizard wm6.1, and 8525(Hermes wm6).
However, after I install it to my hx4700 wm6.1 from following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=371079
None of the CHT patches works.
Is it the result of registry protection to set/change the regional setting?
Is there any way to change the registry to allow the regional setting?
Please help !
Are you using the old version of Chinese support or the new one that I uploaded a couple of weeks ago?
The new one has the necessary policy tweaks built-in and does not require the install of the 2 additional cabs.

Stark,
Thanks for your reply.
I try both mui.cab(with installed 2 small cabs) and BaseMUI.cab(w/o install 2 small cabs). In both cases, the pulldown menu only shows Today and "coldinit", and nothing else.
Would you please provide me the steps to (1) do regedit to set/change regional setting? and (2) once set the region to CHT/CHS, how to change the am/pm 12 hr vs 24 hr?
Thanks a lot!!!
Besides, I notice that in your web, there is statement that CHT is not for wm6.1???
Hi there,
i searched here in the forum but most of the threads i found for my problem didnt really answer my questions or they where not specific enough.
I got a X1 (bought it in Germany), i want to change the OS language to chinese. I want to give this phone to a chinese friend of mine.
Most important would be:
1. Change the GUI in Chinese
2. Chinese input methods (reading/writing)
3. Stable and fast would be nice^^
Actually i want to change the whole phone like its a x1 bought in China
What i understood is that the Hong Kong x1's comes with integrated CE-Star and a chinese GUI.That sounds as the easiest approach to my goal.
Anyway, what would be the simplest way to get this done?
As i am pretty new to all this..please dont bomb me with too much technical stuff. A brief description or a FAQ or something else would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your help and patience.

Look in the ROM section and flash a Chinese (CHT?) rom, like Jack's?
I think (looking at the way you ask the question), you haven't flashed a rom before. I recommend to read the sticky's in the rom section first, so you know what to do. In short:
1. HardSPL (if you don't know what that is, read this)
2. Flash ROM via windows (X1_customRUU), or SD card method
I wil check it out. I shlould be able to do that.
I mean i checked some other threads, but i had no idea where to start.^^
Thx for starters and a fast answer...

For the Chinese rom, I recommend hylu's WM6.5 because it is stable and include Chinese input method like Zhuyin and Changjie
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501949
About the CE star, X1 selling CHT and ENG version in Hong Kong. The ENG version will include CE star(seem with reg key) but CHT version will not include.
If you flash English rom, you can also install some plug-in then your English rom can display Chinese word and typing Chinese by using Zhuyin and Changjie
Here is the Chinese plug-in

Are your friends using simplified Chinese or traditional Chinese?
Hope I can help you.
If you want stock rom, check the rom section for CHS (simplified Chinese) or CHT (Traditional Chinese).
For custom CHT rom, I heard hylu's is quite good. For custom CHS rom, you may want to take a look at it168.
Mine is just English w/ CE start built in.

Hi there
so i managed to Hard-Spl my phone. I am having a tough time now...i dont know which rom i should use.
Preferably a CHS rom. So i am thinking i should either hylu´s or jackleung´s.
What do you guys think? I am really not sure what features are good or not. There are some where i dont even understand what this features might bring ^^
Anyway, the phone has not to be super highly customizable. Anyway, all i want in the end is a phone running in all chinese (simplified) and some nice features and some customization...
I hope you can help me make my choice. Thx in advance

Hi I am searching for Windows Mobile 6, 6.1 oder 6.5 in Englich the language Pack from helmi didnt translate the os .. The os is not bootable after apply
Need Help
yeah, the only rom the language pack works for, is helmi's own wm6 rom.
since there are no other wm6.X roms in german on this forum or anywhere i looked, i will start development for my own wm6.5 in german. personally, i don't want a german rom, but since i am one of just few german senior members here, and people request those roms, it would be pretty nice to have them floating around, but at the moment i just can't spare the time to translate a rom (plus i've never done it before and have to read a hell lot before i can do it).
so you might wanna stick with one of the good wm6.5 builds, like xplode's, or sun_dream's, or swampy's
wmobile in german to english or spanish
Hi! I´m new in the forum, please i need some help, i have a qtek 9090 bought in germany so it has a windows mobile in German. Can you help me to change the ROM to an english or spanish version.
The info is:
ROM version: 1.40.01 GER
ROM datum:03/10/05
Radio version: 1.12.00
Protocol version 1337.42
Extended ROM version: 1.40.750 GER
Model: PH20B
Platform: PocketPC
Can you explain me step by step or suggest me a page wuere i could find some instructions, i have another problem too, I don´t have a usb cable for it, please help me
hi, welcome to the forum!
1. i wouldn't have posted the imei, if i were you. it does not help is the process and is rather private information. maybe you want to edit that, since it is none of people's concerns, it would be like posting your phone number in clear text.
2. it is no problem at all, "switching" languages. it might not be as easy as flipping them like on a normal mobile phone, since you need to flash a different rom, but it is easily doable. but before i explain that, let's go to #3
3. you problem is, that you don't have a usb cable. you really need a usb cable or cradle to flash another rom, which again is necessary to get another language. so your first task would be to get your hands on a cable or cradle, before that, you can do nothing about that. have a look at ebay or e-shops in your country or region.
i will not go into detail now, because the entire process of flashing the device must seem awfully theoretical for you at the moment, but to give you something to read:
-=here=- you can download the different wm2003 roms in different languages.
-=here=- you can find newer roms, since you are not restricted to wm2003, maybe you also want to concider wm6.5 for nicer optics, finger friendliness and third party app compatibility.
-=here=- you can find information on how the upgrade process works in detail.
and finally -=here=- you find a lot of information for beginners with the device.
please make sure to first get a cable, then please post back, and we will discuss further questions about the actual process of flashing.
with best regards,
Chef_Tony
Thanks!
Thanks a lot !
I couldn't find any help until I arrived here, ok so I'm going to work in the USB cable, and I'm going to read all the articles.
I will post back as soon as i get it, thanks for your help and congratulations for the forum Chef_Tony.
