My 16 month old XDA IIi keeps freezing and requires the battery to be reinserted to allow me to reset.
I thought it might be my 2400 after market battery but it happens with the stock battery too.
Anyone know what might be at fault? Would a later ROM install help?
Whaddya think then lads? Don't be shy ;-)
Freezig could be the reason of some conflicting softwares, take your backup, and give it a try for a HARD RESET, Pleas be careful as this process is sensitive.

OK thanks - what's best for a comprehensive backup of emails and anything not covered by Outlook ActiveSync and my own program stuff.
Is there a step by step somewhere?
No you can only take automatically backup for Contacts, Tasks, Calendar, IE Favorites & email in Outlook if you have configured the Active Sync with outlook. You have to copy your files onto the memory card or to the PC manually, and you will loose all the programs once you will reset your device, and you have to re-install them.

OK thanks again.
Actually I can't get emails to copy across from XDA to Outlook though I've got the same account name - I'm not actually using Outlook as my client on the desktop as I prefer O Express.
Any clues on matching accounts?

Hi all, I had to hard reset my XdaIIi, but I had previously set the permanent save on my contacts, but when it finished setting up I tried to retrieve the contacts but it didnt work
I've also had the phone syncronised with my PC and have the past three partnerships still on it, is there anyway I can retrieve my contacts?
thanks
Whenever I've done a hard reset of my stuff, I've just done an ActiveSync before resetting it or flashing the ROM... When I've got my phone back to working order again on a fresh installation, I've just ActiveSynced again, and bingo - all my contacts, files, calendar, AvantGo files have appeared with no problem.
To do that, I've just set up a new full relationship, and ActiveSync has taken care of the rest. The only thing I've had to backup myself has been my SMSes... Of course, if you didn't have your Contacts selected as one of the things to synchronise with your PC every time you synced, you're straight outta luck.
Hi rmurph17,
 you are not straight outta luck
Do the following if u have already Synced your XDA with outlook before resetting:
1. Delete all your partnerships from your PC's ActiveSync without pluging the XDA
2. Once deleted all partnerships, put ur XDA on cradle which is already connected to PC
3. PC will ask for a new partnership, tell it what do u want to sync and from where & which account e.g. Outlook
It will start syncing once it made the partnership.

... So basically, what I said (see my original reply: " I've just ActiveSynced again, and bingo - all my contacts, files, calendar, AvantGo files have appeared with no problem") - I assumed you'd tried deleting your old ActiveSync partnerships from your PC via the ActiveSync software before attempting to resync again.
Have problem with contacts
I had use Nokia 9210i and use Outlook + plaxo (plaxo.com) to manager contacts.
I have around 10.000 contacts with full detail (numbers, email, website, extra information)
Now I change to XDA mini S and discovered that they can not do the same thing as N9210i.
Just about one forth of my contacts Syns from PC, the Programe Memory of XDA is full.
I am asking many person, searching site to site but no one have same problem.
Everyone, who have experien, please advice me:
1. Can I store the contacts file in SD card but not on the fone (Programe Memory)
2. if 1 not avaiable, Can I expand Program Memory more than 64M?
Thank you so much for help me.

by the way r u using Wallaby (XDA 1) ?
after upgrading custom roms by the guides only some of my contacts are synced. any fixes to force all to come over?
noone has had this bug happen to them?
I followed the sticky threads which were EXTREMELY informative... I thing that took the longest was waiting to relog into rapidshare to get files as it cuts you off without having an account.
All my contacts are still showing in outlook and it says updating 0/283 when it starts up but only like 20 carry over.
Before you run any upgrade, you MUST backup all your data! It's a rule for all kind of Windows OS product!
Because in the Instruction, there's 1 step: Delete you parnership and Outlook will ask you sonething like "All your persional information will be delete such as contact, calendar...etc". You should backup before run this step!
Upto now, I dont have any way to recorver data (both mobi device or PC) and I myself think there's no way to recover!

yea I know that. I build custom PC's and know the no-no's to computers not to mention I followed the how to's to the letter.
My question was now that I have everything all customized and I have resynced my info. all my contacts show in outlook HOWEVER only like 20 are actually syncing over to the new custom phone. The other 263 contacts or so aren't syncing like they used to.
Just FYI data doctor recovery can recover any deleted sim messages or contacts off of your sim card. Also I have used my data recovery programs to recover files off of my SD card and the Wizard internal flash memory.
So there is a way to do what you thought I was talkin about.... heheh I just don't wanna have to re-enter 263 contacts.
noone? I have resynced this thing a whole buncha times and still not all the contacts are going back to the phone.
I have deleted the .pim and it recreated it. Still nothing syncs over to the phone. I have read posts on other boards of people with the same problem. I can add new contacts and it will sync them over strangley enough. I exported the list out of outlook and imported it with no duplicates and with duplicates and both ways none of the contacts carried over.
Anyone ever had this problem? The .pst file is fine and my calendar syncs perfectly.
1. I have contacts on my X1, and on my PC (Outlook).
I make a sync - will all of the contacts appear on my X1 and PC
I mean all of the PC ones on X1, and all from X1 on PC?
So contact is lost in that process?
2. What happens when one takes out the memory card out of X1?
And puts it back?
Will all the programs installed on card work normally?
Question nr.2
For the 2 question when i take out memory card and put it back nothing changed, all apps on storage card work ok. I have 2gb card with garmin navigation, and other items.
For 1 question cant answer because i dont have outlook.
My os is windows 7 for the time.

Ok, thank you too.
Hopefully somebody DOES sync.
I actually came to the idea I remove all of the contacts, notes etc. from PC and run Sync. Hope to see all the data copied to my PC!

I SYNC!
I think it will merge the two sets of people it will add to both - but if there are any overlaps it will either ask you or there is a setting which is under Mobile Device Center which says "Overwrite contacts from X1 or PC" or something like that - although i have had someproblems with outlook where when syncing it would randomly delete both from my phone and x1 but luckily outlook has a recycle bin like feature.
Hope this anwers your question

Okay looks like my answer!
Thanks!
Done this lots of times and yes, Activesync on the PC will prompt you whether you want to merge or overwrite the data - which then applies for all your Outlook data inc. contacts, calendar, tasks and notes. If you choose to merge, AS should work out which is the most recent record when encountering exact duplicates and ditch the oldest one.
But from experience if your data is important to you I STRONGLY recommend that you do a backup of your PC Outlook data first (e.g. by exporting all to a new PST file), and also on the handheld with the excellent and free PIM Backup application, before you connect the two together. Otherwise you may end up with lots of duplications (or worse, unseen deletions), which can be an absolute nightmare to sort out.
PIM backup is also useful for keeping your essential data safe on your SD card should you need to hard reset the phone while you're away from your PC.

Just to add to that - you could also use Microsofts MyPhone service - at least that is what i have been using to store data online so there is even less chance of it being lost
Guys I really appreciate your help.
I already have PPCPimBackup,
I just wanted to be sure I understand the sync.
Right now I want to delete all contacts on my Outlook,
and sync this with X1 so all data from X1 will be copied there.
The reason is that I previously sync'd my other smartphone,
P1 on Symbian/UIQ with Outlook (to have all my contacts on X1)
but it made loose all "+" in all contacts lol.
So I manually put all "+" on X1 contacts and now want to just put it on Outlook too without a hassle....
Don't restore the PPCPimBackup contacts unless you have to. i.e lost contacts on X1 & Outlook.
I did a hard restart and it sync'd the contacts from Outlook like it should via ActiveSync. Then I restored a PPCPimBackup backup and ended up with two of every contact on the X1 and in Outlook. :/
My setup is:
work laptop, xp / outlook 2007
home vista / outlook 2007
work phone: nokia E71
enjoying: my tilt
The thing is, I recently started flashing, oh yes
I used pimbackup, myphone, and even googlesync, to have all of my data (contacts and calendar) available in all of the above mentioned devices, and failed miserably.
Deletions, duplicates, you name it, I had it...
I started reading, I mean really reading the forum, and I'm still doing it, but so far no luck.
Does anyone has an idea what would be the smartest way to ensure all of my data safe and synced in all of the above mentioned devices?
Or, please overlook my noobness, and just point me in the direction of the right thread?
TIA

anybody outhere?
what I would do is this. DELETE all your contacts from your phone and your Outlook contacts. Then delete all your SMS. Hide your SIM contacts. Then use Pim Backup. Then after it restores everything you will have one copy. Then resync with your comp and store all the new info to your comp. Ideally PIM Backup is best used only for storing SMS, let active sync do the rest. Just in case let pim backup store all your contacts, but when restoring only select to restore SMS so you dont have duplicate contacts.
thank you, I'll give it a try.
Recently I've used the recovery dvd to reset my PC. I also have to install Active Sync. Strangely enough I couldn't install the disk that HTC puts into the boxes where you buy your phones in. The program says that you must install flash 8.0 or higher with a link that link you up to Adobe's website. I already did install the latest flash player. I uninstall it, reset the computer, put in the disk, hit the link, install the flash player again, restart again. Still the same message. After that I downloaded ActiveSync 4.5 at the website of Microsoft. It works okay.
When I put a new contact in the phone it won't set the contact into Word Office Outlook 2003. Otherwise it works.
I've tried to delete the device into ActiveSync and loaded up in it again but that won't work unfortunately. Please help!
Is everything else you selected to sync sychronising properly? It's not just simply that you didn't select the options when you re-installed?
Does ActiveSync come up with any error messages? It could be that you need to delete partnerships and re-establish them - in my experience ActiveSync is a bit 'fussy' when uninstalled and re-installed.
Whatever, make sure you do full backup(s) before trying anything - I lost all my data one time when an engineer 'tried' to re-establish my ActiveSync partnership!
My pc was completly turned up side down so I used the recovery dvd and that deleted the whole C disk, also ActiveSync. I do had to download ActiveSync from the website because the disk wouldn't run. And yes I do change some options.
It can not synchronised some contacts that I install on my Topaz. Installing contacts in Outlook 2003 to the device works, otherwise not.
It gives the warning code 1.
Sorry, not sure what to suggest here.
If NOTHING from the phone is syncing with Outlook (i.e. no Appointments, Tasks or whatever) it sounds to me as though it could be a problem with the firewall - if you have one set up. Try disabling that and syncing.
If it's only Contacts that aren't syncing, but it works the other way, I'm at a loss.
Worth looking at the Microsoft Support pages - but ActiveSync often seems to have a mind of its own!
Sorry I can't help.

It does Sync tasks, appointments, etc. Just a couple of contacts strangely enough :S
...and it won't sync NEW Contacts at all? I've had the problem previously where existing Contacts didn't get changed - ActiveSync seemed to have got 'confused' as to which was the most up-to-date version and I had to go through entire Contacts list making small changes, waiting for them to be replicated, and if they were not then deleting that Contact on both devices and adding them back in.
That's simpler than it reads - but if you can't add NEW Contacts from the phone I'm not sure that's the problem.
Sorry.
Thnx for your input
ive tried to synce my gmail contacts all goes well with the setup then it wont even sync i keep hitting the synce button and NOTTA. so i said fuc* it and did it all manually. must be a microsoft thing.
