Goodbye Xda2i - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO
my company is buying us all xda execs (or similar) with tomtom 6 installed and almost free phone calls ...so as soon as i get it it will be goodbye xda2i ..i can't wait

I stopped using my 2i about 6 months ago when i got myself a Mio A701 - luckily I didn't get rid of my 2i tho as I've just managed to smash the screen and lcd on my mio (can get replacement for just under £70 for a diy repair) so its back to my 2i for the mo.
I'm tempted to get the p3300(?) which I believe is the HTC device with the built in gps - have to do a few chores for the missus first so she doesn't moan too much when i spend the cash on a "essential".

Do not be so excited
I have XDA IIi for two years and I dream of upgrade to the XDA Exec. My dream come true this Chirstmas and do you know what happen?
I cannot use the XDA Exec because its GSM radio reception is so lousy in my house.
I know I live in the area that has week signal but my XDA IIi rarely drop calls and it also show two bars upstair in the house. The XDA Exec is beautiful with its VGA screen. I love it for that and it is the main reason I want to have the XDA Exec. I also found that the EXE Exec has trouble connecting to my wireless router as well. Sometimes, it connects right away, other times, it keeps trying to connect to my neighbor even after rebooting.
I did upgrade and downgrade the radio rom for the XDA Exec. It does not make any better reception. I finally gave up the idea of keeping the XDA Exec. What is the point of keeping a beautiful phone that drops calls so often.
I hope you are living in the city or in an area that has strong phone signal. Now I have to wait for another new GSM phone with VGA resolution and better radio receiver.
Cheers.

How Much for one of the XDA IIi you don't need or want??
I'd be interested in purchasing one...
Send me an email or private message

I'm getting off using my 2i in a few months too! Then I get the XDA Flame, hehehe!
This would be a very famous device and I can't wait to dream of it!

Ditching ETEN, return to XDA II

I recently bought an ETEN M500 because of the announcement that it would be upgradable to WM2005 and the size of the device. The extra software on the M500 is nothing short of amazing. Never have I seen a pocket pc with so many apps out of the box. I did not have to install SPB Pocket Plus, Pocket Zen or Voice Command. It had similar programs already. And voice dial over bluetooth, WOW, it's about time. So why am I returning to the XDA II. Signal strength. The M500 has horrible reception, I get 4 bars in my house with my XDA II. The M500 couldn't get a signal without me walking outside, not even in the garage with the door open, I had to be outside away from any trees in the open. Yeah, crazy. Maybe they should have spend less time on the apps and focused on building an adequate phone first. None of that matters if you can't use the thing. I also note, even when it showed full bars, the voice of the other person would break in and out. Using my HS820 with the XDA II no one can even tell I am using a headset. Using it with the ETEN, the first thing I heard from everyone was, " what the hell is wrong with your phone". Maybe I just got a defecto, but that would be a reason to keep away as well.
o...is it really a bad machines? How much u paid for it???
I was in the same boat kermit780, but the M500s still a very good device and theres no way in hell I'd go back to a present mda/xda/imate-type product.
This phone was not made with North America in mind (yet) so there are obvious frequency issues- particularly with the 1900mhz range. Eten is on the ball when it comes to issue with this product though. If not the upcoming firmware upgrade, I'm sure the next one will have some sort of radio fix. I'm trying to sell one right now- the primary reason being I needed something with qwerty. The lack of signal as annoying as it was- only secondary because I know it will be a fix to that soon enough.
And no I wouldn't buy a pda2k for that. Its not the size issue- I like going throgh these forums to see whats new out there...not to spend 3+ hours a day searching for a "hack" for something or other. Down right embarassing the amount of money spent on htc phones and the guy standing next to me on the subway with his $200 americanized crap technology Isn't so crap after all because it actually does (did) more than my mda2.
Just my opinion though...M500s a very, very good phone. It will be a great phone once the frequency issue is resolved but doesn't matter if you're not in N American anyway.
For Sale...Cheap. See what real voicedail is like - Plus $20 off for Western Union payment instead of Paypal (avoiding Paypal Final Price Fees so you save...)

Is it worth Upgrading XDA IIi to the Exec?

I was thinking of upgrading until I learned that Blackberry Connect is not part of the Exec. Is there any reason to ditch my trusty IIi and move to the Exec?
I don't think the Exec's increased spec over the XDA2i justify the £400 price tag tbh.
Thats what I was thinking - especially since the Hardware specs are similar.
i won't be ..well not at that price ,besides i ain't gonna get caught short again with all the problems i've had with the xda2i and tomtom ,this time i'm waiting a good long while until i know it works properly then maybe late next year upgrade
I ain't gonna upgrade again. I'd buy a tablet pc instead...
Exec is too bulky but not as good as tablets...at least that's what i think
no, i just got one as an upgrade
its not as hot and is slow............. just sold it on ebay for £401 and sticking with my xda 11i dream machine

Absolutely agree with you Andy, I wouldn’t upgrade again until I know the damn thing has been on the market for at least 6-12months and all the bugs have been sorted.
I just got my XDA IIi sorted and working with TomTom.. Had loads of issues at first, all sweet now…
Also I don’t like the look of the XDA Exec..too bulky not a practical Sat Nav for me.
Hope this helps

Irish Diamond problems

hi there
i have a touch diamond that was got from holland , unlocked and unbranded
rom version 1.35.401.3 WWE
using the Meteor pre pay network
last week the when making calls the person at the end of the line can not hear a thing im saying
anything I can do to fix this ?
step by step guides ?
thanks
Joe
Wooo! Another Diamond user in Ireland!
I'm also on Meteor pre-pay, but I have a Diamond from the UK (1.37.405.1 WWE). I've had no problems with calls or texts or anything...apart from mobile internet.
The built-in connection settings for Meteor are just wrong. They don't work at all. The WAP settings are available elsewhere on the internet, but I've managed to acquire (after confusing Meteor customer care quite a lot, because they've obviously never even heard of HTC) working mobile internet settings. The only problem is that their prices are ridiculous (2c per KB)...but at least I can check emails and the weather if I really need to.
If anyone wants the proper Meteor mobile internet settings, just ask (or phone customer care...and be prepared for a long conversation).
Oh, getting back to the original problem, have you tried your device on any other network? I would really doubt that the problem is Meteor-specific, because I've never had any problems using HTC devices on Meteor. BTW, aren't the new pre-pay deals really cool? Not sure about that magic mobile genie though...
Alright lads! Where did you get your Diamonds? and for how much? I'm trying to bring one into Ireland, cheapest way?
I would also hazard a guess that it's a phone specific problem, have you tried flashing a different rom?
Meteor Pre Pay here btw... I'm signed up to the 3G test, I get free 3G till the end of August! woohoo! They'll have PAYG deals when they release to the public in October.
i got it from Capti-lux in hollands airport, phone is great like but need to sort out why people cant hear me on it though ! ha
i ever bothered with the internet settings for it as i use the wireless when needed for emails etc , and the 3g will be out in october
@ DArk fire
what bad are you on ? gsm/umts ...

This may be just me, but I would try upgrading the radio. I've had the same issues with some of my other htc phones and it always fixed it for me.
I am on Vodafone and no problem with HTC DT on 3G in Galway. I have flashed it with a Diamond Project ROM including the latest radio and had to fix the access point to hs.vodafone.ie
Got mine on Ebay this week from all4ustore_lv for €450, paid last Friday, got delivered this Tuesday! Scary part is the insurance, it shipped as a memory module with value of £50. If you are a frequent visitor to Paddy Power then I suppose you can take this gamble too...

The cheapest way to get a Diamond is probably to get one from eBay or the UK. Some websites don't like delivering to random countries though, so you might have to physically go to a shop if you don't like the eBay. I wonder if they're available in Northern Ireland - I can't see any reason for them not being available there...
3G test! I heard about that, but as I'm only in Ireland erratically I've never really investigated it. I'm here for a while now though - how did you sign up to the 3G test? On 3G do they still charge that crazy 2c per KB? Also, how good is the 3G network (coverage, speed, etc.)?

Flashing in 2 steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408621
hardspl 1.24
ROM of your choice such as:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407572
Direct download link:
http://duttythroy.net/downloads/ind...DiamProject_V2_5.2.19965_Radio_1.00.25.06.zip
Follow the instructions and backup anything important.
Ordered the Diamond from the UK the day it was released. Upgraded the rom to Dutty's Diamond Project and it works a treat. On O2 network and getting a Gig a month for €15 so thats pretty good. After Flashing with Dutty's ROM I have freed up about 20% more memory so it runs much smoother.
ok ill try and do that over the weekend , thanks all
ok iv seem to have got it working now again

Is that on some kind of contract?
1GB would cost €20,971.52 on Meteor.
Irish guys, Expansis have some cheap Diamonds as "B" stock, and having just returned from W.Cork visiting me Dad, I recommend TomTom7 to you, the Irish maps are spot on. Wish I was there now.

Isn't the "B" stock all of those returned grey imports from HK? Thanks for the tip about TomTom7 in Ireland.
Hey lads, living in the south and I've ordered the Diamond, should have it in a few days.
Up until now I've been using an old Acer n310 (WM5 and no phone capabilities and linked via bluetooth to a GPS module) with iGo 2006 (for about a year) and iGo8 (for the last 2 months). I've been trying TomTom 6 on and off. My job involves driving all around Munster and the iGo maps are far better to the TomTom 6 maps; more complete in terms of small roads, and more road and townland labelling. Also higher accuracy. So I'll be using iGo8 on the Diamond too. I definitely recommend it.
I'd been connecting the Acer to my bluetooth phone to use the internet and get my emails. I'm on O2 billpay and 250mb is €7.50 a month, which is great value. So the Diamond will mean one device instead of 3 for getting my emails, making calls, and navigating around the place.
Isn't there an issue that using alternative ROMs will cause the AGPS to stop working?
TomTom 6 uses the older navtek maps, TomTom7 uses the latest Teleatlas maps, which for W.Cork anyway seemed to have every little road, if you could call it a road. Some of the little lanes in W.Cork just aren't good for your suspension, I mean they are smaller than the width of my car and rougher than the dark side of the moon!
Using TomTom 7 on my Diamond + Uk/Ie Maps been to dublin cork waterford and never had any problems.

Right it seams to be an intermittent problem , could it be something to do with the network signal ?

Need Ideas for my old G1

I recently reacquired my g1 (it was on loan to my mother, who got a new mytouch 4g for christmas, since I bought my n1 in january.)
I just updated it to cyan 6.1, it won't have a data plan, but what should I do with it?
remote for my ubuntu desktop?
connect it to a weather balloon and try to get pictures from low orbit?
I need ideas, y'all got any?
Im in the same position here not even sure if its worth selling.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Same here. Keeping it as a back-up in case my G2 fails, but I might use it to pick up some JTAG skills.
You could always sell it to me cheap, I need a second g1 for devving on as mine is no bloody use as a phone cause I'm always flashing something or other
unfortunately it's not for sale, plus the shipping across the atlantic would probably cost as much as you'd be willing to pay for it.
Plus I want to do something fun with it, since it is my first smartphone...
I'm considering using it for a test bed of what can and can't be done, with out a data plan, with google voice/skype, and so forth...
I'm keeping mine forever it will be like an antique the grand Dady of all android phones ;-)
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
using it as a ps3 hacking device or just as huge memory stick
Travel phone for wifi calling and gps related stuff.
use it as an mp3 player, an ipod touch alternative
ull have froyo, games, music, videos, wifi etc..just no calls
well i successfully got it set up for google voice calls over wifi with out a sim card, which is pretty sweet.
Keep the ideas coming, I like the ideas.
Use it as a paperwieght , well... nevermind, thats what the iPhone is for...
RemoteControl for XBMC
I too have an old G-1 that I am no longer using. I would like to give it to one of my kids to play movies on as well as games and music. Do I have to root it to get around the lack of a sim card to make it functional? Any help here would be appreciated!! I have rooted and flashed Roms on Samsung Vibrant but have limited experience. Thanks in advance for any help!
I have 2 g1 but one have with signals and slide so I use it for testing new roms themes and all experiments
I am also tring to costomize my own rom so get useful there
U can also do same
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App
Gave up on this phone and now turned it into a Voip phone. Now just gotta figure out how to keep wifi running.
As a follow up I've set my old g1 up with sipdroid and google voice for free wifi calling and texts.
I also set it up with a combo of ip cam view and webkey so that it can be used as a webcam over a wifi area.
It's a couple of cool things honestly, really love the proof of concept feeling about them, even if I don't use them.
I'm willing to try out other ideas. =P
I love you guys getting upgrades. I have bought 3 G1's in the past few months $45-80 was the range of the 3 I bought. I am running GingerYoshi on them all Sparks 1.6.4 before that. can use on wifi with skype and no sim card. Post em on your local Craigslist. For broke people like myself
unfortunately I can't sell it. It's a museum piece for me
Load GingerYoshi1.0rc3 and voip its running smooth
Have a bunch of different nandroid backups saved.
One with an iPhone layout, another with the Windows 7.
Then when one of your friends gets a new phone, rub it in their face that yours can do everything there's can times 3.

I've had enough

I finally couldn't take it any more. I had taken really good care of my LG 2X phone since I bought last year but it kept acting up. Sometimes it'd go more than half a day without any signal (connection) even if I change location. The past few days were like hell. Constantly dropping calls or not even connecting when trying to make a call. People call me and it would automatically go to voice mail without even ringing. Constantly freezing, and even shutting off on its own...So, I just couldn't deal with all that sh*t and broke down and smashed the sh*t to pieces last night. I don't know. It could be that I'm with Wind and for some god damn unknown reason ONLY the block where I live has sh*tty reception, even though one time I was miles away at my friend's house and I had no connection while his phone (also Wind) had connection. It could've been my sim card. Well, it's too late now and the phone -which looked like brand new- is smashed beyond recognition....and I still owe over $ 300 on my tab- not that I care. The important thing for me is the piece of crap won't raise my blood pressure any more like it used to just about every time I'd use it.
Now, I'm thinking about waiting for the new Samsung S4. Does any one have any idea when it's coming out (including in Canada and Wind)? I'd hate to get the S3 when the new S4 is about to be released.
BTW, could it be that Windmobile is downgrading its equipment or something since the company's apparently for sale? It seems some of my friends who are also Wind customers are having similar problems.
Galaxy S4 Sucks. Trust me. S3 LAGS. All my friends went mainstream and lagged every **** samsung device. LG Optimus G Pro is what you must wait for
