Ok, not sure if this has been discussed here before or not but I thought I would post again as I have just found this out.
On Windows based Treos there is a program that lets you change the USB connection from RNDIS to Serial. The program is called USB Switch. I don't have the file anymore as I am an idiot and deleted it from my computer and my memory card had to be formated, which of course I didn't back up. In any case if you search google for USB Switch you can find a cab file that works with WM5. So if you are having trouble connection to your computer with ActiveSync and have tried any of the various solutions around the web without any luck this is the app. for you. Give it whirl, see how fast your computer recognizes your device.
Happy syncing!!
Is there any way to set up my Diamond to accept files from my PC over wireless instead of plugging in the USB cable all the time?
My USB cable sits in my charger which lives down the back of my bed and is really awkward to get out! I ordered another USB Data cable from ebay, but it arrived today and despite the auction being for an 'HTC Touch Diamond Data Cable' it was a standard Mini USB one that turned up
bluetooth! no wifi,it was disabled ages ago, before wm5 i think, due to security

and what does that do? if it enables sync over wifi, id get it, but it seems like its for copying files over wifi?

Exactly what I was looking for...
Took me a while to figure it out and find it once I installed the plugin, but now its working perfectly.
Just wondering if it'll drain my battery - or whether I'll need to disable / enable when I want to use it?

Actually, Diamond does use standard mini-usb! I use with Diamond the same cable which I use with my Creative Zen V and my Nokia 6120...
I read this earlier this evening... but the eBay advert was for an HTC specific one. I've had a reply from the seller advising me to send it back and exchange it.
Shame I hadn't read that I could use a Mini USB one earlier as I have several of them from Cameras, phones etc!
Doesn't really look like its designed for it though.

You can't sync over wifi but you can use wireless lan to copy your files over to your pc.
If you enable a network share on a folder on your pc, then use a program like Resco Explorer to browse the network and find this folder - you can then transfer files over.
you can also try http://rapid4shared.com
so, we are searching for samba-compatible server under pocketpc?
try mesh from Microsoft it is pretty cool. You can sync a windows folder with an folder on you windows mobile, and even access the files online.
i use resco explorer. there is a network function where you can explore the shared folder on your computer. I usually drag and drop files in there and copy them from my diamond to the internal storage.
Hi,
Just got my xperia today, but I'm still new to Windows Mobile. I want to transfer media files to my phone from my mac, is there any software that can let me do this relatively easily like by drag and drop? My mac doesn't seem to even recognize the x1. Also, I have a 8gb microsd card already inserted into the phone, but it doesn't seem to recognize the memory at all. Any help would be great, thanks.
I don't have a mac, so can't help much, but there's one thing I can think of. you might have tried it already, but...
Did you try going into Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC and setting this to "disk drive"? I would have thought that this makes the phone act just like a USB drive, so there wouldn't be a problem as long as the Mac can see standard USB sticks.
Active Sync certainly won't work, it being Microsoft Active Sync, but maybe as a USB "Drive" it might...
Hi ... You must use Missing Sync ... you can use it via USB or bluetooth ...
Bye.
The Missing Sync seems the most popular with Mac users - apparently really good:
http://www.markspace.com/products/windowsmobile/mac/windows-mobile-sync-software.html
I just use the Disk Drive option in USBtoPC.exe ...
Hey guys, thanks for the quick responses and help so far. The disk to drive has an issue because it needs a memory card to be inserted, and mine isn't being recognized for some reason. Oddly enough, whenever I unplug it from the miniUSB, the memory card suddenly becomes available. I downloaded the Missing Sync but I may have gotten a weird version or something(4.0 something) that was talking about a patch.
Feel really stupid about this. Is there any easy way to just drag and drop music and videos onto this phone?
Sync wth Mac
Hi Guys,
I am using a WM5.0 Dopod 838 Pro but looking to change to experia soon. I used eltima syncmate to sync my Dopod to my Mac. The freeware works great and IMHO, it is more stable than Missing Sync.
Cheers

What ROM are you running?
I will check the rom version in a second, but I remember that it was dated for the 29th of August. I got the x1 to mount as a disk drive, but I was confused about where to drag my media files for the media panel to recognize the stuff in my storage card. Not only that, but dragging and dropping was incredibly slow and I was only able to get 5-6 songs on to my phone before the lag became unbearable.
hey guys thanks for the help in the missing sync. New problem now lol. I transfered my music and vids to my memory card and the media panel read it fine. But my touchFLO3d manila HD can't seem to detect any media from the card at all. Is there any way to change this?
I got my Xperia on Friday and have spent the last 2 1/2 days trying to sync it with my Mac using Missing Sync. I was using MS V4.0.3 and then after upgrading to V4.0.4 and a hard reset (I think) things stopped working. The MS activity log said it couldn't connect to the sync client on the X1 (I also couldn't sync my old Dell Axim X51v either). I tried uninstalling and re-installing multiple times but still no success. After 2 days, I binned MS thinking it was the problem and purchased Eltima's SyncMate. Again same result, couldn't connect with the sync server.
After much googling if found the following post (http://forums.markspace.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5349) in Mark Spaces forums of all places. Copied and pasted the commands into Terminal restarted and everything is fine. Good old Apple.
Hi,
Using SyncMate right now with my new X1.
I'm using the free version, so far contact syncing is ok with the only problem being certain number fields in Mac's Addressbook not showing up in the phone. But this is pretty common problem among all Mac <-> WM syncing. Just need to play around with the info fields in Mac Addressbook.
Right now the problem is the internet sharing to the phone is not working (sharing Mac's LAN connection to the phone). I know this used to work when I was using the same copy of SyncMate with a WM 5.1 Palm Tero I had borrowed. So far SyncMate doesn't seem to show the dialogue box that it discovered a internet connection and is sharing it with the phone.
Of course the Mac has working internet connection.. I'm using it now...
Any help and advice on this issue or any other Mac <-> WM tips are welcome!
As was said above, I use syncmate on my wifes. I used to use missing sync but it didn't always seem to recognise teh phone and had limited features. So I use Syncmate now. Have also tried pocketmac whcih was similar. Both softwares allow you to sync files, contacts, calander, install softwares adn will also mount the phoen as a hardisc on your mac without stopping eth phone from still being able to access it (if you put it into usb disc mode the phone no longer has access to teh memory card untill you disconnect). They can also connect wireless, usb or bluetooth.
I'd try either of the above instead of missing sync. Missing sync just didn't do the job well enough if you ask me.
As for the internet conenction issue, mine just works......have you checked teh connection settings in teh actual phone?
Hi
I tried using the free version of Syncmate with my Xperia, it doesnt recognize my phone. I am using the latest R2 ROM version. Any help ???
thanks!
internet
can please somebody help me, i have a mac and se x1 and i cant connect on internet from my mac via x1 i tried everything over usb, bt, internet sharing, sync mate , nothing works please help.
p.s. sorry about my English
This has been posted in this forum before but here it is again … I've never successfully used my X1 as a broadband modem via USB (it has something to do with ActiveSync, I think however, I use my X1 as a modem all the time using BT).
For a BT connection:
1. Pair your X1 and Mac (using the OS X BT preference panel)
2. On the X1 start Internet Sharing - PC CONNECTION should be set to BLUETOOTH PAN and NETWORK CONNECTION to whatever your ISP requires - SELECT CONNECT down in the task bar (bottom left) - should now say CONNECTED.
3. On your Mac open the BT Preference Panel from System Preferences or the clicking on the BT status icon in the menu bar (top right of screen). Click on your Xperia device (to select it) in the left-hand side-bar. Its status should be displayed in the right-hand panel (paired - yes; connected - no). Click on the task button (the one with the cogged wheel next to the minus button, bottom left-hand corner of the BT preference panel and select CONNECT TO NETWORK - status should change to connected.
4. To disconnect - select disconnect in the task bar of Internet Sharing on the phone or disconnect from network in the Mac's BT preference panel.
The process has to be done in this order. If you don't connect to the internet with the phone first, the process fails.

Sync Xperia with mac
Hi everyone, new to the forum so bear with me. I've recently acquired the software "The Missing Sync" to be allowed to edit and fix up my phone through my mac. When I plug in my phone, the computer only recognizes it as a mass storage device and the program will not detect it. Do I need to update the firmware on the phone to up to date with the most current version of The Missing Sync? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Hi All,
I've been running hyperdragon III for past six months or so with no problems, however, of late i'm having issues when connecting my tytn ii to the PC. It's stating the usb device is not recognised and therefore cannot perform syncs etc.
I've tried on two different machines one with vista/Mobile Device Center and another with XP/ActiveSync 4.5 and two different usb cables, I've performed a hard reset but with the same results.
It seems i'm unable to update/rollback my ROM due to the fact i don't have a succesfull usb connection!
Please help!!
Thanks
maybe your usb port is borked like the ones of some other kaiser users.
does it charge when connected to the wall charger?
for the rom flashing: you can also flash a rom from your sd card. have a look at the wiki as i don't know the excact process and dont want to bring you in more trouble you already are
Hi
Thanks for the prompt reply.
The phone does charge from both the charger and the usb cable.
I'll take a look at ROM via sd
Just updated the rom from hyperdragon iii to iv via sd card, still no joy. windows states device unrecognised!
Any ideas anyone? Really need this device to sync, especially now i've done a hard reset and lost all my contacts!
Try syncing via bluetooth?
Indeed most likely your USB port is broken. Search this forum a bit, it's full of such occurrences so it isn't a rare thing at all.
for the time, your usb port is broken and if you dont have bluetooth.
mail2web.com offers a service called mail2web live. its a free exchange 2003 account. You can sync contacts, calender and mail with that server using wifi or 2g/3g. and for the files, try livemesh ( mesh.live.com )
i've active sync configured at home but i havent used it for a few weeks now thanks to live mesh and mail2web.
btw. have you tried if it's charging when connected to the wallcharger / usb port?
OK thanks for all the info, i've rolled back to the original orange ROM in prep for sending it back to orange for a replacement (still under warrenty) but i'm unable to find the original orange splash screens, any ideas where i can find them?
Thanks
I have a a Jensen NVXM1000 (re-branded Adevent ADV800XM GPS. I hacked it a while back. Sometime later, my the GPS stopped being recognized as an external drive by any PC I plug it into. I've tried multiple different USB mini cables, but it still doesn't work. This was annoying, but fine for a while, as I sued the SD reader to move files back and forth from within CE. However, I made the horrendous (doh!) mistake of trying to rename my IGO folder to my NAVI folder, so that I could start up the IGO instead from the native GPS menu. Now I can't get into the native GPS or Windows CE through the Media/Store Demo option. Unless I can regain access via USB, I might as well have just bricked my device. Does anyone have any ideas how to get it working again? Is there an extra special USB cable I need? Thank you.
