Xperia Sync with Mac - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Just got my xperia today, but I'm still new to Windows Mobile. I want to transfer media files to my phone from my mac, is there any software that can let me do this relatively easily like by drag and drop? My mac doesn't seem to even recognize the x1. Also, I have a 8gb microsd card already inserted into the phone, but it doesn't seem to recognize the memory at all. Any help would be great, thanks.

I don't have a mac, so can't help much, but there's one thing I can think of. you might have tried it already, but...
Did you try going into Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC and setting this to "disk drive"? I would have thought that this makes the phone act just like a USB drive, so there wouldn't be a problem as long as the Mac can see standard USB sticks.
Active Sync certainly won't work, it being Microsoft Active Sync, but maybe as a USB "Drive" it might...

Hi ... You must use Missing Sync ... you can use it via USB or bluetooth ...
Bye.

The Missing Sync seems the most popular with Mac users - apparently really good:
http://www.markspace.com/products/windowsmobile/mac/windows-mobile-sync-software.html

I just use the Disk Drive option in USBtoPC.exe ...

Hey guys, thanks for the quick responses and help so far. The disk to drive has an issue because it needs a memory card to be inserted, and mine isn't being recognized for some reason. Oddly enough, whenever I unplug it from the miniUSB, the memory card suddenly becomes available. I downloaded the Missing Sync but I may have gotten a weird version or something(4.0 something) that was talking about a patch.
Feel really stupid about this. Is there any easy way to just drag and drop music and videos onto this phone?

Sync wth Mac
Hi Guys,
I am using a WM5.0 Dopod 838 Pro but looking to change to experia soon. I used eltima syncmate to sync my Dopod to my Mac. The freeware works great and IMHO, it is more stable than Missing Sync.
Cheers

What ROM are you running?

I will check the rom version in a second, but I remember that it was dated for the 29th of August. I got the x1 to mount as a disk drive, but I was confused about where to drag my media files for the media panel to recognize the stuff in my storage card. Not only that, but dragging and dropping was incredibly slow and I was only able to get 5-6 songs on to my phone before the lag became unbearable.

hey guys thanks for the help in the missing sync. New problem now lol. I transfered my music and vids to my memory card and the media panel read it fine. But my touchFLO3d manila HD can't seem to detect any media from the card at all. Is there any way to change this?

I got my Xperia on Friday and have spent the last 2 1/2 days trying to sync it with my Mac using Missing Sync. I was using MS V4.0.3 and then after upgrading to V4.0.4 and a hard reset (I think) things stopped working. The MS activity log said it couldn't connect to the sync client on the X1 (I also couldn't sync my old Dell Axim X51v either). I tried uninstalling and re-installing multiple times but still no success. After 2 days, I binned MS thinking it was the problem and purchased Eltima's SyncMate. Again same result, couldn't connect with the sync server.
After much googling if found the following post (http://forums.markspace.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5349) in Mark Spaces forums of all places. Copied and pasted the commands into Terminal restarted and everything is fine. Good old Apple.

Hi,
Using SyncMate right now with my new X1.
I'm using the free version, so far contact syncing is ok with the only problem being certain number fields in Mac's Addressbook not showing up in the phone. But this is pretty common problem among all Mac <-> WM syncing. Just need to play around with the info fields in Mac Addressbook.
Right now the problem is the internet sharing to the phone is not working (sharing Mac's LAN connection to the phone). I know this used to work when I was using the same copy of SyncMate with a WM 5.1 Palm Tero I had borrowed. So far SyncMate doesn't seem to show the dialogue box that it discovered a internet connection and is sharing it with the phone.
Of course the Mac has working internet connection.. I'm using it now...
Any help and advice on this issue or any other Mac <-> WM tips are welcome!

As was said above, I use syncmate on my wifes. I used to use missing sync but it didn't always seem to recognise teh phone and had limited features. So I use Syncmate now. Have also tried pocketmac whcih was similar. Both softwares allow you to sync files, contacts, calander, install softwares adn will also mount the phoen as a hardisc on your mac without stopping eth phone from still being able to access it (if you put it into usb disc mode the phone no longer has access to teh memory card untill you disconnect). They can also connect wireless, usb or bluetooth.
I'd try either of the above instead of missing sync. Missing sync just didn't do the job well enough if you ask me.
As for the internet conenction issue, mine just works......have you checked teh connection settings in teh actual phone?

Hi
I tried using the free version of Syncmate with my Xperia, it doesnt recognize my phone. I am using the latest R2 ROM version. Any help ???
thanks!

internet
can please somebody help me, i have a mac and se x1 and i cant connect on internet from my mac via x1 i tried everything over usb, bt, internet sharing, sync mate , nothing works please help.
p.s. sorry about my English

This has been posted in this forum before but here it is again … I've never successfully used my X1 as a broadband modem via USB (it has something to do with ActiveSync, I think however, I use my X1 as a modem all the time using BT).
For a BT connection:
1. Pair your X1 and Mac (using the OS X BT preference panel)
2. On the X1 start Internet Sharing - PC CONNECTION should be set to BLUETOOTH PAN and NETWORK CONNECTION to whatever your ISP requires - SELECT CONNECT down in the task bar (bottom left) - should now say CONNECTED.
3. On your Mac open the BT Preference Panel from System Preferences or the clicking on the BT status icon in the menu bar (top right of screen). Click on your Xperia device (to select it) in the left-hand side-bar. Its status should be displayed in the right-hand panel (paired - yes; connected - no). Click on the task button (the one with the cogged wheel next to the minus button, bottom left-hand corner of the BT preference panel and select CONNECT TO NETWORK - status should change to connected.
4. To disconnect - select disconnect in the task bar of Internet Sharing on the phone or disconnect from network in the Mac's BT preference panel.
The process has to be done in this order. If you don't connect to the internet with the phone first, the process fails.

Sync Xperia with mac
Hi everyone, new to the forum so bear with me. I've recently acquired the software "The Missing Sync" to be allowed to edit and fix up my phone through my mac. When I plug in my phone, the computer only recognizes it as a mass storage device and the program will not detect it. Do I need to update the firmware on the phone to up to date with the most current version of The Missing Sync? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

file sharing over wi fi

well i believe i have just ruined my usb cable wire
the mini end fell into my cereal bowl (with some milk left at bottom)and windows keeps popping up faulty device errors
is there anyway to send files to my device over wifi? like file sharing with other network devices?
i could do it over msn but thats annoying
I don't know about WiFi, but you definetly can achieve everything that you could with the USB cable, with Bluetooth (except for the speed).
Just tell ActiveSync to connect via Bluetooth (Menu > Connect via Bluetooth). You may need to pair the device with the PC first though.

I would also need a bluetooth device on my PC which i don't otherwise i would not have posted about WiFi file sharing
if you have it you should be able to do it by going into settings/connections/network plugins and map you pc drive to your phone, not sure on exactly how to set it up maybe theres something in the wiki?
You can find USB Bluetooth dongle's for like $10
bluetooth is to slow for normal filesharing...
have you tried the drive mapping option? dont know if its in the no thrills rom.

If you mean the USB cable is dead, it's a standard one you can find virtually anywhere. You most likely have one that came with another device, if not it will cost you a mere $2 to get one...
If you share a folder on the PC there are programs that allow you to map the share on the phone, but even then with WiFi the speed is pretty much as slow as with Bluetooth.
On the PC.. make you sure that:
1) You've something shared on your pc (in Computer resources should appear an hand under the drives, or in network resources you should see shared folders of your pc)
2) In TCP/IP settings of the connection to the AP/router, Netbios is ON
On the PPC
A)Make you sure your wifi connection is working well
B) Make you sure the network plugin is disabled
C) Use Resco Explorer, in the bottom right corner there is a button to map lan drives/shared folders, follow the instructions.
Elsewhere You can use the "network plugin, it allow you to share folders also with the pda... but i write/copy files always from pda, so i don't need of a shared folder on it (and relative service started).
Check out this post, there is a couple of tips and people you can ask for more help if needed.

Pairing Diamond with OSX

I can't seem to pair my Touch Diamond with my MacBook Pro running 10.5, they can't see each other via bluetooth at all no matter which side initial the search. I wonder if there is anyone came across the same situation and have a solution or any ideas what may went wrong.
I have tried with the original stock rom and two different cooked rom, still no luck...
which sync software do you use on OS X ... i'm using "the missing sync 4.0.3" ... everything works fine
I just want to pair them with bluetooth and use PAN to use my data connection.
Any idea?
Do you want to use the data connection of your Mac? I only was able to use the data connection of my diamond via Bleutooth-PAN. The other way around seems to have an issue.
I have posted this question also to the discussion forum at apple.
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7632465#7632465
About pairing both (Mac and Diamon) this works for me (MBPro OS X 10.5.4). Have you enabled the "visibility" of both devices during pairing?
Hi,
Its possible to use the Diamond as an internet modem with OSX.
I had tried to get this to work for the last couple of weeks.
It really depends on your bluetooth dongle. I had success with Cambridge Silicon based chipsets. I had a Belkin one and another generic one which didn't work.
You need to pair it from within OSX. You'll know its successful when it displays an option for joining bluetooth PAN after pairing. You'll have an option to "Join Network" under the paired device submenu in the OSX Bluetooth menu.
Once its done, all you need to do is start ICS on ur Diamond and select Bluetooth PAN, than Connect. After that, select "Join Network" on ur Mac and off you go!.
You can also connect the diamond to the USB port for power.
I tried USBModem which didnt work.
My laptop is an Acer 5570 hackintosh. Hope this helps.

Probably a stupid question but have you ticked the box on the Diamond that says "Make this device visible to other devices"?
It can be found under Communications - Settings menu - Bluetooth
and it's on the Mode tab.
I want to use my ICS via PAN, and I can't pair my Diamond with my MacBook Pro with bluetooth, they can't see each other no matter which side I initial the search and I am sure both of them have turned on the discoverable option....
I can pair my diamond with my iMac ONLY if I disable TF3D!
I use Eltima SyncMate (epert edition) to sync and it's working great.
Only if I leave TF3D on the driver on the diamond will crash.
Luckely it's quite simple to disable TF3D n a few clicks.
(Start>settings>home>unselect TF3D>[OK])
Eltima has updated their drivers.
It works now:
Syncing (folders, contacts, mail etc etc) while TF3D is running
There are a few solutions available in case you have not already solved the problem:
The free part of SyncMate works well for contacts and calendar and supports internet sharing
http://mac.softpedia.com/progDownload/SyncMate-Download-28111.html
I am running OS X on Dell 1525 with Bluetooth Internet sharing with HTC Diamond, and syncing contacts and calendar with SyncMate with USB Bluetooth as a matter of routine.

Activesync over BT

I've spent several hours attempting to get this working, I've even bought two new BT dongles for my computer for testing.
Is it at all possible to get activesync working over BT on the diamond? Can't seem to get the ActiveSync profile offered... Neither on my PC or my phone!

Same happend to me until I found the right settings after that I just get irritated when my cable connection doesn't work, in other words I just use it whitout even nowing what the settings are, maybey I can help you if you tel me your settings and show some screendumps, after that I can show you some screendumps whit a working bluetooth connection.
Ps I am not giving any garanty just want to keep my own bluetooth connection
Willem
It works fine for me with Mobile Device Center. Remember to enable BT connection on desktop Activesync options, or else the profile won't appear when you pair with the phone.
I've never got BT/AS to work either (and I've spent days trying), as you say, I never get offered the AS service.
I did see it *once* on the Diamond when I was trying to connect another service (maybe Obex) but I didn't realise how important that was at the time.
I'm using XP/SP2 with the Toshiba stack but I've tried the BlueSoleil stack also with the same result.
I'm guessing this is a problem with the Diamond as I can happily connect with my Artemis via BT to the same laptop
Mee too, I saw the AS-service ONCE, but never ever again.. .:'( Tried 3 dongles and probably 6 different stack implementations.
I'm using XP as well, are the only success stories related to Vista?
Never seen it.
A bad-developed thing with MS and activesync, too bad.
I don't now how your guys try to connect I just can tell how my connection works flawless.
First of all and most important problem whit me was that I have to use the phone to make the connection and not the pc/notebook offcourse you have to allow active sync to acces your phone, in my case this is is found at file connection and allow conection for a compoort in my case com7, then I switch bluetooth on at my phone (and not try to sync straight away cause this results often in a faillure ) and then connect true bluetooth at my phone using the comand connect true bluetooth at active sync at my phone.
One of the strange things which have to set is "All connections use this connection and there is selected "USB" this maid seems trange but I believe the compoort is a virtual one which is used to connect at USB for that reason you have to add a compoort before making your connection, if done right your Diamond will ask for it as soon as you setup the bluetooth connection, the last thing can be wrong cause I don't remember quite well how I did the setup of that part, just because I never use any other connection anymore seems I mannaged to get it working.
This way I can even use it as a wireless webcam which can make you do funny things, the danger of it is when some good programmer makes a virus which allow to setup that connection remotley, aswell the connection whit pocketcontroller I don't want to think off what would hapen if someone manage to get controll of my phone.
Don't now or this is helpfull if any questions feel free.
Willem
On my diamond the only service I can find on my laptop is:
Serial Port
Wireless Stereo
AS set to use the same port as the incoming port in my bluetooth manager...
If you set COM ports right, you tie Diamond with PC using Diamond's ActiveSync. Start/Programs/ActiveSync, the Menu|Connect via Bluetooth. It should ask you now to make a new connection. Tap yes, it will search for BT devices. Choose your PC. If you did everything all right, now you will be connected.
(this may be obvious but I had some problems at start; I thought you initiate the connection on PC)

I gues if there is no active sync profile yet you have to create one what maid be possible aswell is that your settings under active sync/options at your phone where you must selct the options which you want to be syncted, if nothing is selected there it will make a connection but will not sync.
This worked for me
To Async using MICROSOFT Stack do the following:
a. open Control Panel and open Bluetooth Devices
b. click Add and add your device. go to Options and mark "Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer" and "Allow Bluetooth Devices to connec to this computer". you can also mark other options as desired.
c. go to COM ports and add an INCOMING port. it will choose a port for you automatically.
d. go to WMDC/Connection Settings and mark "Allow connections to one of the following.." and choose the port you created.
e. go back to Devices and choose your PDA. choose Properties and go to Services. there you should see all services your PDA provides. one of them should be Active Sync Bluetooth Service. mark it and click OK. your comp and PDA should connect and disconnect a few secs later.
f. on your device, open ActiveSync and under Menu choose Connect Via Bluetooth.
I just provide my solution.
I use IVT BlueSoleil to manage my BT dongle. After installed, the BT dongle could be recognized as a COM port on the PC. Check through the PC device manager to know what the port number is, then adapt in Activesync, select "Allow connections to one of the following", select COM7 in my case.
Enable BT on the Diamond to make it visible to PC, after paring the PC with Diamond, Diamond could recognize the PC provides ActiveSync services.
Go to Diamond's ActiveSync, select connect via BT, PC will automatically accept the connection from Diamond.
P.S I am not a native English speaker, I just wonder if I could make you understood.

I think the majority here isn't a native English speaker, this forum isn't a forum about language but about phones and pda's if someone wants to show how good his/here English is they beter look for another forum.
I think this forum is one of a few where the solution which someone offers weights more then the way its sad, unless its offending.
Untill now (I don't now what I am calling over myself now) I never got any critics at my English which is far from perfect the last thing wasn't nescesary to say even a blindone could see it whitout braille.

I was able to sync my Diamond using WMDC on vista using these steps, with a few modifications.
I had to leave my WMDC "Connections Settings" pull-down box on "Bluetooth" for it to work for me. I'm using a USB dongle, this may be why.
On step (e), after opening the "Services" tab and unchecking, then rechecking the "Active Sync Bluetooth Service" box and hitting Okay, my device would be listed as "Connected" on the main Devices tab for a few seconds before disconnecting (about 3 seconds). I had to initiate step 4 BEFORE the device disconnected. So basically I had 3 seconds to start the Bluetooth sync to get them talking. Haven't had any problems since!
-Mike
This is what worked for me, when not able to get the active sync profile.
In settings for "USB to PC";
turned off 'enable advanced network functionality'
My PC and my Diamond didnt show me any services. Because of that it says no device is paired when i want to connect, although my PC is paired.
I use XP SP3 and the Windows BT Stack.
xp SP3 is a problem ?
cuz nothing work for me
Doesn't work for me either.
Using Vista64SP2.
It worked before but eventually stopped working now.
I see ActiveSync on the Phone and on the Notebook.
AS tries to establish a connection for some seconds but cant do it.
//edit:
Ooook, after Firmware-Flash of new o2 Germany v2.03.207.2 everything's working again. *strange*

Receiving files via Bluetooth on the X1

Sorry I really need to ask. I have been trying in vain to bluetooth files from my laptop to my X1 (R3AA). As of now, my phone can send (or beam) files via bluetooth to my laptop, but not receive anything at all.
Unlike my P1i, the Bluetooth services available for the X1 (showing up on my laptop) does not include the "file transfer service" that was used for exploring the phone's memory stick via bluetooth a la all the other six older Sony ericsson phones that I've previously owned...
I've already:
(i) Checked the allowing incoming beams box in "settings"
(ii) Installed Obex Inbox (but I think that simply is to allow incoming bluetooth beams to get stored in your storage card instead of device)
Is there anything else I haven't done? I right click on my laptop the file after pairing with my X1 and when I hit "send via bluetooth", basically nothing happens. Man, even my old t610i didn't have problems with bluetooth receiving...
it works for me bro.
start > settings > bt > mode > check both boxes! > ok
this will make X1 "visible" for your laptop.
BR!

Hmmm... my X1 works well too. Do you have a custom ROM? in case, which one?
so, you select the file, send to, X1 and nothing happen on the screen of your laptop? if so, it is a laptop problem, not X1 problem.
If it would have been an X1 problem, you would have seen a progression bar saying "discovering services available on X1" and then disappearing because of your mentioned X1 problem.
I'll be waiting for your answers to help you!

Not sure about why your bluetooth is not receiving, but you can make your laptop access your memory stick as a normal folder to browse the files.
Follow these steps.
1. Make sure you have activesync installed on your laptop.
2. Go to activesync on your phone and select connect via bluetooth.
This should establish a activesync connection thro bluetooth, similar to what you get thro a USB connection.

Hmm. doesn't work here,
Vista, Windows Mobile Device Center.
Any clue?
hmm, next time you connect your phone thro usb, let it connect completely to windows mobile device center, then go to Mobile device setttings, and click on connection settings.
Make sure the check box "Allow connections from one of the following" is checked, and "Bluetooth" is selected from the list. I hope this works. Fingers crossed.
Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies, which help steer me in the correct direction. It seems Activesync is responsible for "unlocking" the bluetooth functions (I kid you not). Finally solved it. This is how I did it (based on advice given):
1. Checked all boxes in Bluetooth options in settings: visibility/bluetooth on/authentication passkey required
2. X1 was already paired up with my laptop
3. Connected to my laptop via USB and activesync loaded automatically
4. Opened up "My Bluetooth Places", which is the program that comes with installation of the Bluesoleil program on my laptop
5. Heard a beep on my X1 for the first time when I did this (this was the first time I was connected on USB via activesync AND activating bluetooth AND accessing the bluetooth places folder) - I think this was what activated it in the end - sorry if i'm not explaining it too well here, but it did the trick
Note: Not sure if a few more options popped up in "My Bluetooth places" folder I don't recall seeing bluetooth messaging/contacts there previously. My OS is XP home, using the default R3A rom.
6. I could transfer files via bluetooth already from my laptop to X1...
*I still haven't been able to manage to get within the file directory tree using bluetooth, bharat4ever, which program (and bluetooth service) might I ask did you use to do that?*
Additional thingys: I think it's important to use a proper software for bluetooth file transfers - Bluesoleil is much better imo than that standard Widcomm (oldish as well) program that came default with my laptop.
I was also wondering if I could transfer multiple files via bluetooth and seems like resco explorer can do the trick, though folders can't be sent via bluetooth - tho the contents inside them will.

Bluetooth

Hi,
I just bought a Bluetooth dongle for my PC. (Trust Ultra Small Bluetooth 2.1 Usb Adapter 25 M)
The main reasons for buying this was so I could sync without using one of my very spare USB ports.
Another big reason was that I really want to try SideShow.
So, I hooked the thing up, installed it. Works like a charm for most services (files etc). It just doesn't work for two things: ActiveSync (on the phone)/Windows Device Center (on my PC) and Windows SideShow. Yay.
Could you please help me out?
To summarize:
PC with Vista Home Premium,
Trust Ultra Small Bluetooth 2.1 Usb Adapter 25 M,
HTC S730.
Not working for ActiveSync nor SideShow.
x5x_tim
PS: I installed something called "X86-PC Drivers.cab" I found in some thread. That's supposed to be the drivers for the SideShow service on the PC. (I think I installed them, I did not get an error from Rundll32...)
EDIT: what might be of use: I can't get the devices to pair if I use the PC to initiate that. The PC does not find the phone untill I pair them using to phone to initiate.
I don't know about SideShow but I managed once to ActiveSync my Wings through Bluetooth. Just be sure to remove any security restricition on your Bluetooth settings on your device. Like Secure Connection etc... Also, setup a serial port when you connect with your PC and then, at PC ActiveSync settings, at connection settings -> Allow Connections To One Of The Following (Com 4 or whatever). And then, at ActiveSync on your mobile, connect through Bluetooth. Try it and come again if it doesn't work.
