Notifications? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hello!
I have a question: what is the 'average' number of notifications that my WM5 BlueAngel should have? I mean the Notifications queue available via FdcSoft TaskMgr... Cause my Notifications list keeps growing, causing my BA to slow down more and more every day:/
Today i have about 1200 notifications (duplicates removed), 6 days ago I had only ~700 notifications...
I have noticed, that their count increases with very SMS message I receive. Thats weird...

If you use LED flash in notification settings, be sure you've set it to e.g 1 hour, and not forever. Sorry my ROM is Russian and I can't guide you to the exact settings.

Yay, UR right. I use 'forever' notification :|
Is there any way to clean my Notifications queue? Except for Hard Reset, ofcourse... Yes, I know I can delete the Notifications one by one, but... which ones? :|

SKTools allows to select and delete multiple notifications. Those for turning LEDs off are in form
\\.\Notifications\NamedEvents\SCRIPT:0x0039F130
where the hex number may vary.

Thank you
I have deleted about 1150 notifications (using FdcSoft TaskMgr). Now I have a stunning number of 60(!) notifications.
BTW: why did nobody during WM design notice this bug??

Is push email waking your device?

When I get an email via Push email form my exchange server my device doesnt wake up and tell me, It gets the email, and when I turn on the screen I see the notification, but until then it doesnt beep or turn on or anything to let me know. Is anyone else having this issue? With my old ROM it synced as items arrived the OLD way with exchange, and that woke my device just fine. I like this new QTEK ROM but I can't use it if It don't tell me I have emails. BTW It will wake up for SMS and let me know.
Please post your findings, and what ROM you are using.
I'm using the NEW QTEK 2.17.7.2 rom

Waking the device
Not sure I would want it wake the device for email as this would limit the standby time of the device. Would be nice if it were an option though.

I am using the same ROM as you, on a Qtek - and experiencing the same symptoms. However, the device does ring/vibrate (depending on your settings) when a new mail comes in.
When does yours ring/vibrate for email? I am trying to find anything to make this work, cause I REALLY liek this ROM, it faster than the cingular ROM
Thanx; Later
same problem here on 8125 with new Qtek rom
Come on guys, its a simple settings change:
Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications > Messaging: New e-mail message.
The default settings in these aku2 roms is for no sound. So just change it.

Gee thanks smart ass.
You think we haven't already been through the notification settings?? The problem of not vibrating when new mail arrives (no matter how it's set) has already been verified by many other folks in another thread, and reported to MS. So if you've magically got yours working, please share the info.
BTW, as far as waking up when new mail arrives, MS says that behavior is intentional so as not to impact battery. What that means is that if you have new mail set to notify you onscreen of a new mail, it will not wake the device and you will only see the notification when you bring the device out of standby. Audio notifications of new mail appear to work just fine though.
@summiter:
Tks for everything in that last post! We are not id10t's here....
I wonder how M$ plans on fixing the vibrate bug tho.... AKU3?

Ok here's what I think... whether he is a smart as or not, and whether he realizes it or not, he is kinda right (even though we all know that setting.)
If you go to "Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications > Messaging: New e-mail message" you can set it to notify you with a sound, vibrate doesn't work, and the device doesn't turn on when it notifies you. I think this IS by design. If you got 100 emails a day (or more in some cases) your phone would be on ALL day. So I have concluded that this was intentional on M$'s part. So its all good (also I REALLY LIKE THIS ROM, vs stock 8125), plus I don't know if my 8125 ROM vibrated when e-mail was received either. Can anyone with original 8125 ROM confirm this?

New mail will not turn on the screen..this is indeed by design as confirmed by Jason at MS. Per MS it is to conserve power.
New mail audio notifications work as expected.
New mail vibrate does not work, it apparently should, and MS has been notified, and they in turn have notified Imate. Whether Qtek and other device makers have been notified, I don't know.
There is a thread on the vibrate-on-new-email problem in the Wizard forum that was started almost 2 weeks ago. That is also where the notification and feedback from MS is quoted. The problem has been forwarded to the WM folks inside MS.
Hope this clears things up a tad. =)
indeed it does. I dont NEED the vibrate, it would be nice but, I dotn NEED it. Plus I must say that I am SOOO INTENT on keeping this ROM (me likes, much faster than stock cingular) that I almost dont care at all...
Later; Lew
Is this problem unique to the Wizards?
Sound/Vibrate works for me
The sound notification works for me. When push e-mail comes in it plays my sound. The wav file I use for e-mail notification is on my SD card to boot.
Before push e-mail I used the Exchange AUTD feature and that actually did turn the screen on and played my sound. With push e-mail it just plays the sound, but the screen doesn't light up. I actually like this better. Usually my phone is out of sight anyway so I don't care if the screen lights up or not. This way it conserves battery better.
As to vibrate, if I set the phone to vibrate using the Comm button it vibrates when I get mail as well, and it still doesn't turn on the screen.
If I set the new mail notification to vibrate under Sounds and Notifications it also vibrates and doesn't turn on the screen.
I am running the stock ROM I have not installed anything on it. I have not done any customization to make these things work. They just work for me. I notice most users reporting this are using the new Cingular 8125. I am using an OEM Qtek 9100.
Qtek 9100
2.17.7.2 WWE
It seems that the issue isn't really an issue unique to push email. I'm using VeriChat (IM client) and when IM's arrive, the notification while in standby has exactly the same behavior as with push email (sound if volume is up, but never vibe, whereas vibe will work if the screen is on).
I think the issue is that the device is set to never vibrate when in standby. Period.
An incoming phone call wakes the device. Vibe will work since the device is already in a powered-up state. SMS is the same thing - the arrival of an SMS causes the device to wake up; therefore the vibe can proceed since it is no longer in standby.
Pre-push AUTD includes the receipt of an SMS triggering a pull - that's what allowed the device to wake up and vibe.
Push email (and, for that matter, scheduled pull email) does not wake up the device; neither does an IM client.
What is still baffling me is why some people seem to not have this issue. It appears to have less to do with the actual device and more the ROM (which makes sense). I'm still hoping that someone with more reverse engineering skills than I have can diff the extended ROM's of a device where this works (like the QTEK out of the box?) with one where it doesn't (e.g., the update for Cingular) and put together a little cab that would fix this annoying quirk.
I'm thinking that those of us who have the issue (and care about it!) may want to pool together a pot to reward the first to solve this problem... Just a thought..
I concur
I have the QTEK 9100 and 2.17 ROM. Have the same problem, on msg receive I only get sound no vibrate (when device is off). I have heard from others who have other WM5 devices that they do get the vibrate and when I spoke to the MSFT product guys at CTIA they all seemed surprised that this does not work. So I dont think its by design, its a problem with the 2.17 ROM that we all have. There probably is a workaround. Anyone hear of one?

SMS log like blackberry?

Hello, I am a very txt heavy person and i was just wondering if anyone knows of an option or software that acts like the blackberry message service, where it shows ALL the texts between you and the person (sorta like the facebook -wall to wall- feature).
Thank you.
Pocket CM does this kinda, maybe not exactly what your looking for but worth a look
Palm SMS is also very good.
Ahhh, you mean threaded SMS conversation!
Well, by default, WM6 doesn't have threading feature on its messaging application.
But if you'd like to thread your SMS, you could use the two alternatives mentioned here. And a few others.
Palm Threading SMS is awesome. I can't give you a link to it unfortunately, but if you snoop around this forum, I'm sure you'll find your way to the file.
Another one that's free, it's developed by a member here, is the IMSMS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333619
Give PocketCM, Palm (I prefer this), and IMSMS a try. But I find that Palm's Threaded SMS has a very nice (maybe the best) integration to the operating system. Meaning, it's installation on top of (not overwritting the default one, just overlaying) the default messaging application is very nice.
Thanks alot for the help, but the only problem with Palm SMS (im using shogunmark vrs.) is that it doesnt vibrate or notify me with a sound when i get a text message...so i have to always keep checking to see if i got any new ones.
Is there a fix for this? or am i using a wrong version or something?
Thanks in advance!

I'd look in Settings -> Sounds & Notifications and change it there. It's not really a program-specific setting, though it may make some changes. I've also found that it doesn't seem like changes stick around through a soft reset (sometimes). I can't explain that, and I'm no guru so it may be my fault anyway.
Austin
Umm, yeah, there is a separate notification event for the Palm threaded SMS than the normal message. But you set it in the same place. And yes, you can assign any ringtone to it or have it vibrate or both like any other notification.
It may not be obvious, cuz it gets cut off in the listbox. See selected Event in the attached pic.
As mentioned above. You get there via:
Settings | Sounds & Notifications | Notifications tab

Thanks jomo25, but the problem persists...i went to sounds & notifications and it shows that there is a sound notification and that it will vibrate with new incoming sms...but it doesnt do that...should i try a soft reset?
and did any of you guys notice that txts were getting delayed because of palm sms? as in...they take longer for you to recieve a text that someone sent?
If you've done that, then I don't know what the issue is. I've been using Palm threaded app for a long time and I get my SMS's "on time" and it does notify me per my settings. If anything, an SMS might be delayed by about 5 seconds. But no more than that.
You can try a soft reset. No harm in doing that. But it shouldn't matter. (Just an FYI - I do use MemMaid and I do a soft reset maybe every other day to keep the memory "clean". Just like a PC needs a reboot occasionally, most WM devices benefit similarly.)
One las thing - I keep the Palm app "minimized". I don't completely close it. If it's not running, it'll still fire up but could also delay getting the message by another 10 secs or so, cuz it needs to fire up the app. So, it's OK to close it completely, but since memory on the Kaiser is generous, its OK to leave it open also. And make sure not to completely close it immediately after sending a message. Sometimes it'll get stuck in the Outbox. Other than, no issues, with Palm, and I send and receive dozens of messages a day.

I did everything you said, but no luck...and i have been notified by my friends that they have sent me several sms's and i never got them at all, let alone have the sms delayed by over 10 minutes (average). I really like the app, but it's causing too many problems so i'm gonna uninstall it and try something else.
Thanks for your help anyway
All of your problems seem to be phone/carrier specific; that's my guess. Threaded SMS works fine on my ATT Tilt. I get all text's, fast, and with sound/vibrate notification.
Maybe it's your modded ROM.

Incoming text message produces no sound anymore

Hi,
I'm not sure if anyone here can give me a hint on this, but here goes. I flashed my TyTN II with Dutty's 6.1 ROM a while back. I'm not sure if it's related, but for some reason my phone stopped playing the notification sound for when a text message is received.
In Settings > Sounds & Notifications, however, on the Notifications tab the "incoming text message" event is wired up to a sound just fine. Similarly, on the Sounds tab I have Events, Programs and Notifications all checkboxed.
Do you any other reason why this event wouldn't fire or why it doesn't play the notification sound?
Have you installed, or are you using Palm SMS?
There is a seperate option in Sound and notifications for Incoming Message (Palm SMS). You may need to change this to something else and then back again to get it to stick.

First of all, there is a thread about this rom, in which this problem is explained and solved at least 3 times, it's really not hard to search instead of making another thread that is just cluttering space for no useful reason.
If you disable the Microsoft Voice Command, your SMS sound will go back to a proper working order, you can do so In Start-->Settings--> MSVC
I think his question is legitimate. I have exactly the same problem and have also not found any solution in the more than 180 sides of the Dutty thread. And thanks for your hint with the Voice Commander. I tried it also but it still does not work.
Yeah, sorry. Didn't want to clutter up the forum with something that has already been covered. However, I don't even know if this is related to Dutty's ROM, but one seems to expect so. Searching for this problem has also proved a bit difficult. I just don't get any usable results.
I have not installed Palm SMS, unless it's installed on Dutty's ROM. However, I don't think so.
Furthermore, I don't believe I have Microsoft Voice Command, neither. As far as I can tell, it's commercial speech recognition software by Microsoft, and not standard with Windows Mobile 6.1.
I'll go through some of the many pages on the Dutty thread to see if I can find more information.

Have you installed any other software? Any registry tweakers like Kaiser Tweak etc? Dutty's ROM has AdvancedConfig installed by default. You may want to check the message settings in that.
Well, yes, I installed a ****load of applications. One could of course be the cause of all this, but I simply don't have any idea. AdvancedConfig has three messaging options:
- SMS sent notification: Disabled
- SMS delivery notification: Disabled
- SMS Unicode support: Enabled
Somehow SMS delivery notification doesn't sound like it's about incoming SMS messages, but it's strange that there is one for sent and delivery. So I'll enable that and see what happens.
Running low on ideas...but...
I take it all other sounds do work? If not try a new Radio.

Some time ago I had a similar problem. In settings/notification.... in the box for New text message there is a option to play to file. Even if I clicked the play, it didnt play the ringtone. Later after a hardreset I realized that it was someway connected to audio manager and playing wav files. The audio manager was not able to play the wav files. Maybe the file was not associated with the player. Just my two cents.
Alright, success! After setting SMS delivery notification to Enabled in AdvancedConfig, I tested it out. And there was both sound and vibration, too (which it didn't before neither). So I suppose that setting was the culprit, although I have no clue why it got set to Disabled. Also, I am amazed that apparently this really pertains to incoming text messages instead of messages I sent out.
Mikulec: I had some problems with ringtones before. Once it didn't want to play custom ones any more. Since I flashed my ROM, I never really figured out why it did that, but maybe it was because of some media player I had installed that took over some file associations. Who knows.

This setting is just for notifying u that the message u have sent was delivered. This shouldnt be tha cause.
But I am glad it works now.
This is annoying, then. It works now, but I'd like to know what fixed it. I did a few different things over the course of trying to fix my problem, of course, but nothing that I thought would be The Solution.
On top of this, I don't get a delivery notification for messages that I have sent after toggling that setting, so it appears to be not working correctly.
I suppose sometimes you just have to not ask questions and move on...
Thank you!
Thank you very much! After much time in searching, I've also didn't realized that is because of Advanced config. Now it's really works!
As above, delivery notifications would normally be a delivery receipt for messages that you've sent - when enabled you'll get a message from 'System Administrator' telling you when the SMS you sent was delivered to the receipient.
If enabling that has solved your problems, great. One thing to note though if you are getting receipts is that sometimes networks charge for these delivery receipts, and these generally won't be included in any allowances for SMS/calls etc. with your subscription.
In the UK I know Orange charge 0.9p for each one they send to you. ...My orange bill was £623 last month and one of their suggestions to reduce it was to turn delivery reports off. When I'd stopped laughing we agreed that wasn't really going to contribute too much!
Regards,
Rob.
Hi,
I had the same problem with my Touch HD (Blackstone). I change cooked ROMs a lot, and sometimes I don't have sounds in notification area (new SMS, new e-mail, etc...).
I use the Free Mp3 Wma Converter to convert all mp3's and wav's to wma format. After that, just transfer wma files to the /Windows directory on Your device, pick sounds in "Sounds & Notifications" and it should work It's just that easy

SMS/Mail confirmation alert

Just got a new diamond here in Tokyo connected the Softbank network.
It seems whenever I send out an email via Outlook/SMS/S! Mail(Service that allows SMS-like mail to be sent to regular email accounts or other cellphone providers...most people use it here in Japan) I get a "Your mail has been successfully sent" email confirmation everytime I send out a mail. For someone who uses all three services frequently, it tends to get a little annoying
I've downloaded many tweaks and modification applications for the diamond but it seems I'm still not able to find the workaround...
Does anyone know the cure for this or is this a known problem?

This little quirk bothers me too because I want to hit send and then lock the device; unfortunately, when I hit send and lock the device I get a bunch of notifications and the device unlocks itself and random uttones get pressed as its in my pocket.
It may be best to load a WWE rom and sort out the smail using mmslite. Getting JP input working however is another issue.
For the problem with the notifications in softbank's arcsoft mail app, I wonder if there is a registry fix we can do.
solution for successful sent notification(at least for text)
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-diamondpro-tweak.html
Go to messages, and disable text messages notifications.
Kevbodian, mjz147,
Thanks, I really appriciate your quick response!!
I checked out that Diamond tweak app and its one hell of an applicaiton!
It seems though, when I disabled the text message notification and soft reset, im still getting those alerts after sending MMS/SMS emails.
Is there something wrong with my device or I may have to do some manual modifications via registry? :\
Tried to just disable em in Windows?
Start/Messaging/Menu/Tools/Options/SMS MMS
There you can disable notifications. Atleast for SMS messages for me it works.

I guess I have bad luck when it comes to disabling notification via Windows.
Unlike the US version, my phone doesnt have just one central location for mail but two (Outlook application - used for PC email & SoftBank Mail - used for SMS and MMS...)
So when I looked under the option menu in Outlook tools, I wasnt able to find any SMS/MMS options...
Im sure theres a registry hack that can be used...im not so sure why the diamond tweak app could apply changes to everything except the "turn off notifications" option though...
Was anyone able to solve this issue?
Did you guys try Advanced Config v3.3?
It has a section devoted to messages tweaks.
It does have a tweak that disables notifications.
Greets.

I currently have 3.3 installed and have used it to disable/enable many features on my Diamond. But it seems after I disable the 'SMS delivery notification' and 'SMS sent notification" fields (and soft reboot), it is still showing the sent notifications after sms/s!mail is sent...
As Kevbodian was saying, maybe there is a special reg hack that needs to be done under softbank's arcsoft mail app.
could somebody figure out what change is made when that notification is turned off and turn this into a cab file? the only thing that bothers me is the sound. i dont mind the bubble or the little icon on the top telling me that my sms is sent. thanks
this one is simple and right to the point install it and it doesnt give you the message, you dont have tons of menus to navigate through just that install
also i am simply reposting this app i did not develop it or design it credit goes where credit is due
so this turns off the sound AND the notifications also? thanks
yep no sound and no pop up message after sending one
i hope it helps
almost tempted to figure out how cab files work (arent they just reg edits?) and maybe try to see if i can change it myself. i like having the notifications (bubble and little icon on the top) but the sound can be annoying at times,
Edit1: also i just installed advanced config 3.3 and the notification thing works for me.
Edit2: also search "kraiser tweak" and you will find it has settings for this. a lot of settings actually for just the thing you are talking about. now we just need to find the edits in the registry because i dont really like having 2 configuration programs on my phone. (advance config, and kraiser tweak)
Edit3: ok i found this on the wiki....Disable SMS Sent Notification
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings] Set SMSNoSentMsg to 1
.....so does this mean if it was changed to a 2,3,or 4 that would change the action of it? im really trying to look into this.....if you cant tell haha

No SMS Ring Tone - Tried everything and still does not work

Hi,
after searching for weeks around ways to make the ring tone for text messages work, I found that even though there exist several proposals to solve the problem, many htc diamond users still apparently don't succeed in getting it done, myself included.
The problem is that if a message arrives, the phone returns to normal mode if on standby, the lights flash, but NO TONE is played. No matter if in standby mode or not.
So far I tried the following which at least made the phone wake up and the light flashes. However, no sound is played and moreover the message is not displayed. (I am not using Manila but SPB Mobile Shell (tried 2.15 and 3.0 and without, but does not change).
things tried:
1) I did several Hard Resets including using a totalling of five different ROMs (including one with 6.5)
2) Trying all possible settings in the alerts and Notifications menus, Vibrate, Program Sounds, built-in sounds,...
3) edit the registry to make the phone wake up on Message
4) Install the HTC Hotfix for the greyed out REPEAT option
The strange thing is, once I flash the phone new, it works for about one day, but then stops (however, I used to install some programs during that period, so far could not 8for the lack of time) find out what was the particular reason.
but after about 10 complete new Flashs I am really desperate that one of the most simple features of cellphones, an text message beep, seems not possible with the HTC Touch Diamond.
In any case, I know there are a lot of discussions around this issues but I tried all of them and it seems that they don't work for many others as well, while it does for some.
It would be great to have a final thread getting this issue fixed ultimately!
Thanks for your experiences / ideas !

Solved
So after long trials and errors, I found one more reason why one cannot hear text message sounds:
I had deleted the Activesync Registry Key in order to get rid ot the Outlook Email Account as suggested in several threads. Apparently this made the sms sound not work anymore, for whatever reason.
Just restored the backup of the Active Sync key to HKLM Software Microsoft Inbox Svc and voilá!
well i think this is one of the most crucial and important problem with HTC phones...i had the same problem with my HTC Touch before...hopefully this should not start with my new diamond.
solution of that i found was something similar what u stated. i tried deleting my smses..i had more than 3000 sms in inbox and in outbox around 2500...so i deleted say around 1000 sms ..which might played some trick and then sms sound started...unfortunately my htc touch then got stolen ...i wish i would have not fixed that problem for thief to go with same misery of not getting incoming sms sound
it didn't work for me....grrrr
any new solutions?

Same problem here.
I was hearing sounds in incoming emails a few days ago but suddenly no sound is played when i receive an email.
I didn´t delete any registry value, so i don´t know if your solution can help me, but... do you remember the registry key to review, please?
Thanks!
Still looking for a solution anyway
EDIT: I have found a pseudo-solution: if i check the box "Display message on screen" (Sounds & Notifications), new email notifications sounds normally.
I don´t like seeying WM notifications pop´ups, but... it´s the only way new email are notified with sound.
