Can you enlist the 'strange' things?
I gave up after tuma release
Yes what do you mean by strange things, current WM5 versions are pretty stable and fast, so could you be more specific?
Where to start. Freezing, hardware buttons not working, it dieing in the middle of something even though the battery is fine, the battery meter saying that your brand new genuine 02 battery is ticking down at 3% min but then turn it off and on and it is fine, turning itself on when it is in your pocket even though all the buttons are locked the list just keeps going.
It still works well as long as you keep fixing it. I have 60+ programs on it and when I try and back it up and then when I have to hard reset it and you try and restore it the thing won't do it. Then I spend the next 4 evenings getting it back the way I like it. I even had to reset 20 times once because it wouldn't start properly. I stopped using it for 2 weeks and they were so relaxing not having to keep fixing it I then went back to it and now I am about to get a Jasjam (Tytn) because I would like to get my life back. OK I have had my whinge now.
1. WMP10 is a disaster: crashes phone, shuffles around library items, etc
2. With Power off, keys/LCD become active despite Button Lock ON.
3. sometimes refuses to charge
4. Poor memory management (OOM errors, keeps too many apps open, etc)
5. Occasional hang
and i havent even used bluetooth and Wifi yet - a whole other can of worms, i'm sure. My phone has only 5 apps installed.
solutions:
1. TCMP -- seems ok so far
2. living with it
3. soft reset
4. i think related to WMP10 -- good so far
Well I know that even my Dad's IIs which has the same ROM as mine none of the hard ware buttons work and bluetooth won't turn on and off then to top all that off it won't do a hard reset!!!
Ok you guys stated a lot of issues, you wont believe me that they do not occur in my device(exclude WMP 10 it sucks), i haven't perform hard reset from more than a month and my device works smooth. Of course i had problems with previous releases of WM5, but now it is fine, and a lot more good than 2003se.
@PPCNUT, maybe you have hardware problems with your device
Well both devices have bad problems but it could be possible. It is just it seems ironic that my 6 year old HP Jornada 720 Handheld PC still works fine and never needs a reset and even runs faster and is more reliable than the IIS!! I have had a lot of PPCs and other mobile devices and I find the IIs the worst and it needs the most work just to keep it working. All this is just my observations and I am sure lots of Blueangels run WM5 fine.
First, props to everyone on this project. I upgraded my T-Mo MDA to WM6 yesterday, and what a fun day it was. Thanks to all for the WM6 preview!
Unfortunately, since this is my main phone, and I use it for work, reality forced me to downgrade back to a "stock" WM5 ROM.
I had everything sorted out in WM6- syncing, bluetooth headset, all my software installed, etc. but every time I set the thing down, it would turn itself back on within 5 minutes.
Just for "data collection," if it helps, I used the Orwell ROM, and had SPB Pocket PC Plus, and Voice Command 1.6 installed (since the "built-in" one didn't do BT.)
All the other little weirdness I could I live with (the "turn on wi-fi" never saying "Turn off," no camera flash, etc.) but I can't have the thing turning itself on randomly all day!
Thanks again for the glimpse of the future!
After switching from the stock wm6 (rwell) to the pdaviet3 rom i did notice a lot of bugs gone.
to your stated bugs:
Cam light works
Phone is not waking up by itself
battery doesnt seem to drain as much as with the 3.3 roms
faster even without overclocking than 3.3
if there is anything u would like me to test let me know
cheers
on mine i set battrystatus to lock the phone after i would put it on standby so when i would hit the button it would turn the screen back on. but after it gets locked it would stay off. So i figured if you lock your device the screen will stay off.
im on pv3 and the powerups still occur, i have a feeling its Batterystatus doing it, because my brother also has pv3 in it, but no powerups...

I just recently re-installed PV3 from the 3.3 rom because of battery drain issues and since re-installing I havent noticed anymore powerups. I have the 1.4 beta ext. baterystatus installed.

Do you use push email?
im sad to inform you guys........that i think it is the batterystatus that is causing the power ups. after reading this thread last night i removed batterystatus and i noticed that my phone did not power on after i would put it on stand by. and it really saddened me because i like this program alot. do you guys think there might be a solution out there. what other program can i use to over clock?

There is a solution, faria seems to know it but he's not sharing
Shame...
Nope, battery status doesn't seem to be it. I removed it, restarted but it still turns on.
This majorly blows!
Did a hard reset... Now no start-ups, push-email enabled (so it is not the cause).
i have the same problem with pdviet3, i did a hard reset... no powerups until i setup exchange server, its got to be something with push-email, i downgraded to wm5 until theres a fix.
OS itself
Hi guys!
I have such a bug for about 6 months. The same sh** I’m eating just from wm5 AKU3.2, & wm6 didn’t change anything.
I tried it in different ways: several releases of wm5 AKU3.2 and wm6, with and without ExtRom cabs installed, with or without any additional progs, also several versions of radio. Nothing helped!
Some good news: I found out the cause, when it DOES wakeups and when – not.
It very simple to check: just REMOWE password to LOCK your device – it will NOT wake up any more!
Reassign password – and soon it will be awake!
So I had choice: 1. – NOT to assign password for PDA locking, or (as I do so for about 3 months) 2. – to set BatteryStatus option “DeviceLock on Wakeup” on – just like someone wrote above – and switch off device twice.
So, it OS itself brings us this bug!
Is there a doctor in the house?
i stand corrected. i am with you rusigor. i took the password off of my 8125 and to my surprise no more screen power ons. i have battery status set to 299 and ive noticed also that my battery is lasting longer with my password. off. i dont know if its just me. but i've noticed it. so i guess no password for me :-|
HOLLY ****!!! All the hair I've been pulling out!!! I wouldn't never suspected that device lock was causing this. I've started to blame batterystatus.
THANKS! THANKS!
wakeup issue
i had the wakeup issue on the pdaviet3.. i took lock off and it worked... i have the wifi bug..
when wifi is connected i press the icon on taskbar and it dont say turn wifi off.... any ideas?

I've had a T Mobile MDA Vario III for a few months and the GPS has been consistently rock solid. Fixed in seconds after I installed TomTom and every time since. Unfortunately with the stock ROM the GPS was the only thing that was rock solid, everything else was slow, unstable and flakey. So I flashed Dutty's latest ROM which is fantastic, it's so fast and stable it's like I have a brand new phone all of a sudden. The only problem is the GPS performance is all of a sudden a bit ropey. I finally managed to get it to fix after changing the Radio ROM from 1.64.08.21 to 1.64.06.04 and hard resetting. That was this morning. I checked it a couple of times during the day and still it was OK. But I tried again just now and it can't get a fix, it's just sitting there on the window sill with one or two red bars in GPS tool. Does anyone have a clue about this one? It's obviously not a hardware problem since it was fine before I flashed the ROM. QuickGPS is up to date.
Thanks for any help.

It does also appear to me as if Dutty's latest WM61 ROM needs way more time for a GPS fix (several minutes), compared to the original WM60 versions I've tested (much less than 1 minute, in any case). Can't tell why.
Buster
I have the same problem. T-Mobile Netherlands MDA. Stock WM5 was crap beyond comparison, but GPS fix was ok. Now flashed on the B&B 4.3 several months ago. Love that ROM, but GPS fix time went down the drain. It now takes 10 minutes sometimes, while driving around. Remaining at one location speeds up the fix, but still up to 5 minutes. QuickGPS is always kept up to date. Doesn't seem to help at all. When I've recently used GPS, it always fixes in no time when I start up the TomTom 6.
same problems there, with Dutty's latest rom and Radio 1.64.08.21
With tomtom 6.032, 10 minutes to fix after a reboot (softreset or shutdown)
When tomtom have fix it once, next fix will be fast...strange...
My Vario III stock ROM was also sluggish overall but would get a GPS fix within 5-10 seconds of starting TomTom or Navizon.
I flashed Duttys WM6.1 5.2.19199 RTM a few days ago and I'm using 1.58.26.20 Radio.
The GPS now takes aroud 20-30 seconds to get a fix. Not a massive increase for the extra benefits of the ROM, and nowhere near the 10 minutes others are getting but its definitely a little slower.

I suspect Dutty's ROM is resetting the GPS when it does a soft reset, hence the GPS loses all the 'known location'/satellite data it had before. So, basically, it has to start trying to figure out where it is in the world all over again. That can take quite a while if the satellite signals are weak, and the Qualcom receiver in the Kaiser is not as sensitive as the SIRFIII (IMO), nor is there any antenna included in the Kaiser.
I don't believe it's a problem with the nav software. It's the GPS unit which decides it has a fix or not.
/drt
OK I just spotted the "after a soft reset" bit. My 20-30 second time went up to around 2-3 minutes after a soft reset.
I guess the post above makes sense and would be worth more investigation.
Has anyone contacted Dutty yet?
Zippyioa
confirm that navigation soft are not in question.
I used GPSTest and GPSTool, same problem after reboot.
And QuickGPS or SeaSGEE have no effect...
To be precise, i have this:
[Mar 08 08]Dutty's Official WM6.1 5.2.19199 UC RTM
Radio 1.64.08.21
I think we need to try Niki's Radios...
iv just downloaded the latest tomtom, and its put a badge/icon on my today screen. AFAIK it doesnt actually do anything, it cant be clicked on or selected, and as a result id like to get rid of it.
iv tried going through the Tomtom settings, checking the today\items and deleting it from the registry under software\microsoft\todays\items but none of it gets rid of it.
Does anyone have a way of doing it?
cheers
You need to *uncheck* the Tomtom box in the today screen options and that icon will then only be accessible from the start menu. Thats what I did with my TyTN II and it works perfectly. If the box is checked you'll get that icon on the today screen.
BTW, if you're using the recently released HTC WM 6.1 update with HTCs Navigator 6.032 are you finding GPS performance to be much worse than before the upgrade (slow fixes and wild fluctuations in GPS reception bars even when stationary)?
thanks for the reply, ill give it a go.
Im a new tom tom & 6.1 user (just flashed one of duttys), so dont have any previous experience to compare it with, sorry.
I'm finding the Tom Tom (and other GPS apps) to be worse after the upgrade unfortunately - it's the only fault I can find with the new ROM. The problem for me is just the first fix after any soft reset - it always takes an age (up 10-15 minutes) which I'm sure wasn't the case before.
Subsequent fixes (after closing and later re-opening TT or another GPS program) are always much quicker, within 30 seconds even, so obviously once it's been initialised once it's fine, until the next soft reset when you're back to square one.

do you download the quickgps data after the soft reset, i believe that doesnt save when you do a soft reset, and the first lock you get from GPS, will be remembered and make it easier for the future connections.
I never have a problem with GPS connections, only tomtom and its poorly slow application refresh.
AFAIK it downloads in the background on a regular basis still, whenever I'm plugged into the PC at work (which is most of the working day) - whenever I check it, it always claims to be up to date, anyway. But I agree the behaviour is as if that data isn't there anymore... peculiar.

Although this part also applies to me, even after getting a fix, if I shut it down while I'm moving and start it up again after a couple of minutes its still much slower than it used to be in the same locations under WM 6.0
I'll email HTC and Tomtom about it as it's clear there's now a problem.

If you ever used HardSPL (or possibly even if you didn't) you probably need to flash the new HTC SPL - see the thread over in ROM development. It cured all the freezing issues for me.

I'm pretty sure it's an HTC issue, since I have the same problems using GPS in MS Live Search too. Unfortunately there's not much point in me emailing them, because mine is officially Vodafone branded and they don't support it.

Thanks for the tip. I'm the old school sort who believes the hardware provider should be responsible for fixing things, hence why I'll write when I get the time but I may try this later if I get annoyed enough! I've never installed HardSPL and this official HTC upgrade was the first flash I've subjected my TyTN II to.

In the end the buck stops with HTC and as they are responsible for my phone, I'll remember other branded users are also depending on a fix from them when I write.
Hi! For a while I've been searching for a reason why my phone seems to freeze almost daily while charging or before / after I snooze a morning alarm. And sometimes during the night, maybe it's random. By freeze I mean the phone is sleeping and when I push the power button nothing happens. The only way to restart it is to take off the cover and either remove the battery or press the little reset button.
I use itje's ROM with standard WM6.5 and Manila 2.1. I tried diferent builds and newer Leo ROMs, but I always get the same problem. It didn't happen some time ago when I was using WM6.1 + Manila 2.0.
While searching in the forums for solutions, I noticed there are some users with the same random freezes using various ROMs from different chefs. But most of the users don't seem to have this problem, which is weird. I guess the hardware should be the same, so does anyone have any idea why this freezing happens only to some of us?
I tried different methods and ROMs, countless hard resets and re-flashes, even additonal Stock-SPL and Hard-SPL, but nothing seems to work. It even happens if I install no other programs and don't have the SD inserted into the phone, only my SIM card. So it's not from external programs (like G-Alarm) either.
Well, any helpful information or advice? Thanks!
I am experiencing the same problem. If anyone got a solution for this, please share.
Regards, Eduardo.
i have the same problem to but only with the cooked wm 6.5 roms and higher not with the rom that came with my x1
i get the same problem. i'm using itje's Touch I-T Xperience 15 6.5
Now I flashed a WM6.1 ROM with Manila 2.1 to see if I still get the problem. Do you think our phones have a problem with the Windows 6.5 builds or maybe the problem is with Manila?
Did anyone try to live with one of these ROMS for a few days with Manila disabled to see if you still get the freeze? Maybe I'll try this also after I finish my 6.1 test. It's very annoying that we don't even know the cause for this freeze yet...
have the same problem when using 6.5 but when on 6.1 nothing of the kind...
Just to share. Some chefs have mentioned this and I myself can attest to it.
I was using 2 ROMs that were free of the problem more than 24 hours , Touch X 10.8.2 and Valkyrie 4.5.502. And both times I managed to cause the "standby of death" by using 2 different alarm programs, G-Alarm and Klaxon. Once I activated alarms using these programs, within 3-4 hours my phone froze.
That's my experience anyways. Some ROMs by default will die without doing anything, so I'm not sure about those. But if you have a stable ROM and want to avoid it, I think it should be fine.
Well, I can confirm that on various itje 6.5 ROMs I get the standby of death without installing any alarm program. I didn't install ANY programs, for what it's worth. And others can use G-Alarm 2.3 and don't get this freeze.
Didn't use Valkyrie ROMs yet. I'm testing now Touch X 10.8.2 and I have G-Alarm 2.3 installed. Let's see if it dies in the next 48 hours while on a 6.1 build...
Here is my experience...
I never got standby freeze issue(never used G-alarm/Klaxon), but i do get black screen or garbled screen issue randomly while receiving call irrespective of the ROMS(wm 6.5/6.5.1).
Only one time almost a week i didnt face this issue, then later problem repeated. So i realized that week i've used COM4 build. So for testing it i tried again same one for a week and problem didnt exists. Since the ROM which i used has default X1 dialer which i didnt like at all.. so got updated to other ROM and started face the same issue
Maybe some of us have a slightly different harware in our X1 that triggers this freeze, but only in WM 6.5?
So far the WM6.1 + Manila 2.1 is working fine, lots of customizations made by me after flashing too. G-Alarm managed to wake me up OK.

Well you can count Valkyrie 4.5.502 out because i installed it yesterday and this morning after my alarm went off about 20mins later the phone frooze. I have been experiencing this for the past months and i REALLY hate this phone now. I have tried all sorts of tricks from reseting the phone around 9pm to just not running ANY program and it still freezes. I have tried all sorts of roms with the exception of Touch X 10.8.2. I guess i might as well give that one a try. I will keep an eye on this thread for a solution.
On an older Valkyrie TR build I was getting the problem and I fixed it by doing a soft reset with the SD card out, waiting for everything to load up and run nicely, then inserting the card again. Went to the music tab and waited for it to load all my tunes and the same with photos. Didn't have the problem after that, but I was only on that ROM for about a week.
I thought it may be related to usb port driver issues in WM6.5, but it could also be the audiomanager in manila or some conflict between a WM6.5 process and a manila process.
Anyway, will be trying 4.4.81TR Valkyrie and see...
But the biggest question is why some (most) people never have this problem...
Never seen this problem on WCX 22001 Pure wm6.5 rom and I'm using it for about one month. I've installed many apps and my X1 works great with battery about 2-3 days using WIFI, BT, and all other stuff. No Manila - no problem in this case. It's an older build of WM6.5 but with newer builds WCX Rom users didn't complain about freezing problem or alarm issues.
So maybe it's Manila?
Today I wanted to flash Itjes newest ROM but I'll wait for solution couse my phone should wake me up today
Can program your phone Lockscreen has frozen the rechargeable device. Best before charging you restart your phone and not run any programs.
yes i get this problem too.. every morning my phone is off.... so it really needs to be looked into.. it seems to occur from more recent builds of 6.5..
i was previously using a wild child pure rom from about 3-4 months ago (6.5 early build)... this issue never happened...
then recently i upgraded to the V11 Unoff series and now it occurs.. and is obviously occuring for a lot of people with other recent builds of 6.5...
if the solution is ever found please let us know....
I might be completely off here... but I used to have this problem often, in addition to having slide to unlock malfunction on me, even with the newer rom builds.
When I unchecked the boxes that said display owner information/notes when device is turned on, both problems were gone - it might just be a coincidence though and I've only been testing it for 2 days.
Hey guys,
I've been having the same problem, only that this are the situations in which I faced the issue with my X1i (and managed to replicate the freeze):
-Receiving SMS while charging (no pc conection)
-Charging while alarm goes off (again no pc)
-When task or appointment announcement sets itself to sleep (i.e: you ignore it) while charging. (go figure, no PC)
-When after ignoring (not hitting dismissed button) task or appointment screen shuts off (Running on battery)
I've also gotten the problem in other situations, but i couldn't replicate them. The only Thing I did notice was that there is a growth in the rate this happens over a span of 3 days after flashing/hard reseting. In my case, it was one increment per day (ie: 1st day, happened once; 2nd day, twice; 3times the 3rd day.. then, i reseted or replicated, so my statistics went down the pipe )
Other thoughs: what radio are you guys using? maybe we can narrow it down to a radio as well. Thus far I've seen it narrowed it down to Manila 2.5, but then others do not have this (and then there me, with Manila 2.1, that has it ). I changed my radio y-day and hasn't happened yet (xing fingers though...) wil try to replicate tomorrow after my alarm wakes me up
My info:
X1i Black (came with R3 generic UK ROM, Radio. 1.14...)
Issues happened with: Radio 1.10.25.18 (Installed with NRG's ROM vOCT 28)
ROM info: (see signature..)
Manila: v2.1.191...
Current radio: 1.14...
Carrier: AT&T US
I tried to contribute as much info I could get about this issue... hope we can get it solved.
I'll try to flash again a WM6.5 version to see what radio will be installed. This week I needed my phone WORKING , so I used a 6.1 ROM.
I didn't find a pattern for my freezes, but I think it mostly happened while charging from the outlet, or in the morning before the alarm went off (very bad thing to happen), or after I snoozed the alarm (again, very bad).
I read somewhere that it's useful to format your SD card before flashing. I don't see how this could help, but I'll try to flash via USB or from another newly-formated SD card. I always flashed with kovsimg.nbh on the SD root and I only formatted it when I got the phone, 9 months ago...
Also, some say it's good to flash first an original ROM, hard reset, then install the custom ROM again. I tried that, even stock-SPL and hard-SPL again, but didn't seem to work. Maybe I had 48 hours without freeze, but then it started again.
@8SE8 - I never had those options checked, so we can rule that out I guess.
I have been reading about this issue here and in another forum - mainly
because I had seen it only one single time. It actually occured when I was
loading the device during the night. I do not remember which ROM it was
exactly, except that it was an itje ROM with Manila 2.5.
Then, I went back to Manila 2.1 and WinMo 6.1, Touch_X 10.X.X. Must say,
that is still my fallback ROM, it feels extremely fast, it is stable, memory
usage is low - what else to wish?
Next, I went to the multilanguage Rhodium based Manila 2.1 and WinMo 6.5
from itje in my own language. After installing FM Tuner, a correct dialer and
some tweaks, it is also very fast and stable, memory usage at 50%. No more
soft resets since almost a week now, no "stand-by of death".
The difference to others is maybe: I do not flash using the SD card, always
with the USB connection. Is this provoking the difference? I cannot imagine,
but this is what I can contribute here.
