Out of interest, is anyone else reminded of "The Silence Of The Lambs" when the auto config kicks in after a hard reset? The phrase in the dialog is: "It will customise your device now" which is a bit broken....
Every time I hard reset the phone, I get reminded of: "It rubs the lotion on it's skin"...

This morning I wake up, and connect GPRS on my phone to check emails as usual. Except this time, when it connects, my phone vibrates for a few seconds (even when it is not muted/vibrate mode) and the LED flashes red (until next soft reset). WTF!?!? I did nothing to it.....
Any ideas as to what is going on? Problem in registry?
These Pocket PC Phones from HTC are driving me crazy, when will Dell start making Phones?!
PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP!

to vibrate and flash LED
Hi
I checked these settings, and NONE of them were enabled.
So, just thinking I might get lucky, I enabled them, reset, and then disabled them.....It works fine now.
Is there any application that might have done this? I hadn't installed any recently though.
Thanks for your help
Something like that happened to my olde XDA2 a few times before.
I'd get an SMS, or some 'event' would happen and it wouldn't stop vibrating. Wouldn't necessarily crash. Just wouldn't stop vibrating till reset.
I suppose it's some event that gets triggered wrongly, or (in my case), the "stop vibrate" co,mand gets lost along the way.. Harmless. Unless it's not..
I hestitate to start a new thread to ask this, but I just spent 5 hours reading the Wizard forums and didn't find anything useful. So here goes . . .
I recently upgraded to Cingular_RUU_WIZARD_217_AKU22_Basic
(thanks, summiter). I'm happy with everything except the behavior of the password protection.
With the original ROM, I had it set (and don't remember what setting did it) so that I would only be prompted for a password when the device was coming out of standby mode (i.e. when I press the power button to turn the screen back on). Most of the time, I would put the device in "protected mode" by manually pressing the power button, but I also had "turn off after 5 minutes when running on battery" set, so if I left it sitting somewhere, it would go into "protected mode" in a few minutes.
With the new ROM, I've tried setting the "prompt if device unused for" setting to "0 minutes" (the setting I seem to recall I had used with the old ROM), which DOES cause the device to prompt for a password whenever I turn it on, but it also causes the password prompt to appear after 1 minute of idle time. If I use a longer setting, then I don't get the password prompt while the device is on, but when I turned off, and back on again, it doesn't prompt for a password.
I'm not dealing with a high security situation here. I just want a simple way to keep my kids and other prying eyes from accessing the PDA function, with a way for me to force it into locked mode, and some kind of time out for when I set the phone down and forget to lock it.
Is there a way to change my current ROM to get the old behavior? Is there some other program I should use instead of the one built-in to the OS?
Thanks.
Seconding this request. I've been looking for a solution to the same problem.
The password behaviour in the AKU2 ROMs are a real PITA - especially if you use SatNav without first switching off the password protection.
Unfortunately this is down to the implemenation by Microsoft so don't hold your breath for this to be "fixed".
Here's my solution so far:
I bought a copy of Pocket Secure 3.0 for $14
Website: http://www.TotalPocketPC.com
Support: http://www.4winmobile.com/-pocket-secure-support-vf25.html
I associated the progam with the Press and Hold voice button (I don't use voice recording), so when I want to force lock the phone, I just press and hold the button.
Using this program, I've left Media Player and/or TCPMP running in the background, "locked" the phone, and then carried it around in my case without any problems.
The "lock screen" displays battery level and a nice big clock. Since I don't wear a watch, 50% or more of the time, when I'm turning my phone "on" (i.e. switch out of standby mode), it's just to see what time it is.
Hi, new user, daughters Diamond driving me mad.
When writing new SMS, character going into message is from the set to left or right of the box being hit. For example, hit the box with 'a' in and get a 'd' or 'e', click backspace and get a w. If want to cancel text, when asked to save draft, 'Yes' box is ignored, if tap 'No' takes as 'Yes'. Not clumsy fingers as can key a few characters in correctly then goes funny. Tried turn off/on number of times, also recalibrated. Once starts have to turn off/on to clear but problem eventually returns. Any ideas....

Try going to settings, screen and reallign/calibrate the screen.
Can someone please help me with a source for this ROM (2.31.841.6) - there are links to this ROM in other posts here, but they link to a page that is all chinese characters, and is of no help at all.
Alternatively, maybe someone could find a solution other than reflashing the ROM:
My TD2 continually wants to "Power Off". If I respond "Yes", it shuts down and immediately restarts. If I respons "No", the "Power Off" dialog box comes up again after a coiuple of minutes. The phone doesn't respond to the power button, and I can't perform a hard reset.
This started the day after I tried opening an attachment to a strange MMS, so I'm suspecting I have received a virus.
Any help will be enormously appreciated.
Why are you unable to hard reset?
Why can't hard reset...
Not too sure - I'm still not certain the mainboard power management section isn't cooked - but the phone's response to the power button is inconsistent. When I opened the phone, I found no physical evidence that the power button itself isn't working as it should. When the phone is on, it responds to the power button but not as it should (delayed response, and short press results in power off dialog box coming up). When I choose "Yes" on power off, the phone just restarts, so it is difficult to get to the point of properly initiating the hard reset sequence. Since posting, I DID manage to successfully complete a hard reset but it didn't solve the problem. So I've come to the conclusion that most likely there is a hardware fault - but still want to rule out the possibility of the ROM being corrupted (no idea if that's even possible).
Any idea of the cost of replacing the mainboard? Is it economically viable or should I just replace the phone? (I would need to buy one outright - I'm not a high-phone-usage customer, but I have a lot of use for the added features of the smartphone.)
What's the difference between a hard reset and a factory reset? I want to know it. Please anyone solve this..
I think you mean hard reboot. Which is a normal reboot.
Never heard of hard reset.
I've never really heard of "hard reset" before for a cell phone.
If by "Hard Reset" you really mean Hard Reboot or cold boot it would be... power off/on.. or use the reboot option in an app like Quick Boot (reboot)
A "soft reboot" is where you press/hold the power button on the X, and from the pop-up say "restart" which closes apps and stops a few services and restarts (kind of like what happens in windows when explorer.exe crashes). The device doesn't completely shut down or shut off. It more or less just restarts some services.
If it really is "hard reset" then please supply the context or where it was used so we can better understand and explain it.
