Hi
I Loaded the new MolzKi roM update aku 3.2 and love it, it works perfectly, but I see he has changed modem dial up to internet sharing
I am glad because modem dialup had a lot of problems
They main problem I am having is that windows XP requires a Driver for internet sharing and I don't have it, does anybody know where I can possibly get it? as I use the net on laptop a lot and need it asap
Thanks
Download the latest version of Activesync, or at least version 4.2. After you turn on Internet Sharing, connect the device to your computer. Then just open a browser and surf the web. There are no extra drivers or set up required. That's why we love aku 3.2.::: Posted from my Wizard :::

I have Faria's AKU 3.2 RC1 ROM installed but I can no longer use the Wizard as a Bluetooth modem. I have sucessfully paired it with my XP laptop but I can't see any services the Wizard is offering. Previously with the official QTEK AKU 2 ROM and the RISidoro 2.26 ROM I could select the Serial communications service from the Wizard and I would get a Bluetooth modem installed on the PC.
I had a search on here and on Google and found these:

Neither of which has helped me.... This is for a plain old dial-up connection to a console port on a Cisco router, so no Internet connection, no PPP etc. Can this work with the AKU 3.2 ROM?
Anyd
send me this rom and i'll figure this problem out for u.

Thanks for that insight, I must admit I did find that after a bit more searching after I posted the thread.
It looks like what I want isn't possible via Bluetooth with AKU3 since there is no longer the ability to have a Bluetooth Modem. I am sure I would be able to get the internet sharing working but that isn't what I want to achieve - I want to open an asynchronous terminal session to a Cisco console port over a modem link.....
Ah well, it was a nice thought...
How do we influence Microsofts Developers to get this re-added since as a networking engineer this was a really useful tool to have?

One of the improvement of AKU3.x is that dial-up modem link is no longer supported. Instead, you should use BT PAN (BT networking) from your XP to connect to your phone and setup internet sharing on your phone to enable internet access for your PC.

MS is aware of the problem (there have been complaints everywhere; see for example http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=423325 ) and, hopefully, they will fix it.

Depends. It has some good sides (some kind of BT PAN; decreased boot-in time etc) but the lack of BT DUN may be a real pain in the butt.
I updated to Faria's AKU 3.2 and loved it........I do mean loved it! Then I started missing the calls and voicemails. I pressed on and reflashed everything............started missing calls again. I had so fell in love with the rom and the internet share. I finally with much regret had to go back to the 2.3. I miss the "Internet Share" feature that was on the 3.2. I am have to use my phone on my laptop quiet a good bit and you can understand how depressing this has been. I sure wish we had a working 3.2 or 2.3 with internet sharing. I know Faria's coming out with something.....praying and hoping in Cingular land.
yea that was a super cool feature.
Tomcat,
The 2.3/2.6 Roms have the same program. It is called something different in those ROMS, but still allows you to connect your phone to your PDA. The only difference between the two is that the 2.3/2.6 ROMS allow USB or IR connections while the 3.x+ roms add Bluetooth as an option.

now that i know what causes the phone to fail [a specific file] i have made some changes to aku3 roms, but i got no time to release yet.
The program is called "Modem Link" I just build a new media center pc and I didn't have any way of connecting it to the net so I was using that and it worked like a charm. I connected it through the USB, used this driver http://www.pdagold.com/files/articles/en/0000000269_HCxN12752.zip
Oh and Faria glad to hear your on top of the missed call issue, that and those cool looking crossbow icons are 2 things I'm really looking forward to, Godspeed
It's just not the same
Yes, I used the modem link before going to faria 3.2 and I have gone back to it now, but the two are not even in the same ballpark. With the "internet share" all I had to do was simply plug in my phone and bam! With the "modem link", I have to make sure my phone is now hooked to the internet (I have direct push activated). if I don't do this, it might take longer for the "link" to happen. I then have to dial in with the modem.....blah...blah....blah! As stated once you haave experienced the "internet share".................WOW!
True enough, it's a world of difference, I wonder how hard it would be to port internet share to AKU 2.3? actually scratch that, that's time better spent working on getting 3.2 working perfectly.
Modem Link and Internet Sharing both have their advantages and disadvantages. Please read the AKU3 Networking Bible at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282780 - in there, I'ce explained EVERYTHING about all these issues. (And please DO follow my articles... I post them all to the General forum on purpose - so that they are read and people profit from them. Keep an eye on the General forum.)

hi all:
can anyone help me use DUN on WM5, am using explode's AKU 3.5 ROM.
everything working fine but no success to connect BA to laptop and use it as a modem.
any alternatives?, i have read explode's thread but no info. that would help.
is there a .cab file to fix this?
i hope someone has a fix for this.
thx
Active Sync?
Is the Active Sync on? Turn it off before you connect to the computer.
DUN isn't recommended on WM5 anymore. It has a much better system, usually called "internet connection sharing". It works much like ICS on a windows PC and is far better than DUN.
There is some info on this inside some of the discussions for the recent ROM releases. A search should find what you are after.
I think its not only recommended but its no more supported in AKU 2 or 3 - not sure which one but I read it in some of the msdn blogs.
Hi!
I'm having trouble using my tytn II as a modem in windows vista. I had no problems in windows xp but since i installed windows vista and use internet sharing application this is what happens:
I get connected and a new networkadapter (NDIS) is detected
I recieve a local ip-adress of 169.xxx...
This is making me crazy and i've searched the forum without beeing able to find anyone with the same problem...what am i doing wrong??
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
I understand, you use it with USB cable, may be using it with Bluetooth will be better, because in this case Windows will recognize it as a modem.
Please provide some more information about how did you make the configuration.
Did you make it as it was described in the user guide?
Hi!
I did make the configuration exactly as the manual describes it and my device is syncing correctly and everything. It even installs as a network driver when i use the internet sharing application. But it just wont give me an ip-address...
I've had this issue for over a month now and it feels like vista is blocking the service or something, but i just cant figure it out...
PLEASE advise!
I have the same Problem as you !
As a matter of fact, I have an ip but vista says that I'm connected to local network but not to the Internet.
But at the same time I have an illimited data plan that runs perfectly when using Pocket ie...
Still searching for a solution...
But i'm sure it comes from vista...
megaman
No problems!
Hi guys.
Ive used this feature with vista with no problems at all..
Just turned internet sharing on and it connected to the network connection then vista aked me what kind of network it was (Home, Work Place etc) and hey presto it worked.
Mine is a T-Mobile Vario iii btw.
Never really had a problem either though it's much too slow compared to a "real" USB-3G/HDSPA-modem. (I max out at 1.2-1.8 mbit/s but when I use my dedicated modem I easilly reach 4 mbit/s)

Yeah this is killing me! I get the same as you, i get a IP-address but its a local one 169.xxx.xxx.xxx and vista says its a local ip-address...
I've started looking for services that may be stopped and such in Vista, but i still cant get it to work
I also can't get it to work, so if my WiFi goes out and i need internet, i just reboot to XP... Obviously not a solution, it's very annoying. I'd love to figure this out. I think my friend said he got it working, i should get details from him!

Guys, this is not the solution, BUT, until someone finds it, this is a awesome way to get around the problem! Just install the application, start it and tap connect. Now on your computer you'll find a new adhoc network using wifi, connect to it and your ready to go!

I am trying to setup a deal-up connection from PC (WinXPsp3) using TP2 as a modem.
I need the DUN connection for CompuServe, which uses own software for dialling-up. So, I cannot use internet sharing option.
I have studied thread 407563 at this forum ... (UNFORTUNATELY THIS FORUM DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO POST LINKS) ...
I installed WM6_BT_DUN.cab on my TP2, but what I miss is a appropriate modem driver at my PC.
CompuServe has to detect this modem and setup required connection.
I tried to use a standard modem driver for 9600 b/s and BlueSoleil DUN modem driver, but both do not work.
I also tried to install HTC WModem driver from .... (link is not allowed)
Unfortunately my windows cannot install this driver, probably because it's .*cab part is missed.
In many posts in different forums is written, that Windows downloads a proper driver itself, as soon as TP2 is connected to PC.
Unfortunately, this does not happen in my case.
Could you pls. suggest solution ?
Thank you very much in advance.

lol.. i think he means dial up connection
Search on ppcgeeks forum using wmodem as keyword and search inside the htc titan forum. Hopefully the download link for the whole thing including xp driver is there. if you using vista, 7 you don't need any driver
Having said that, I have no success so far getting wmodem to work on sprint TP2 WM 6.5 . It was working fine on my TP1 and would probably work also on TP2 with win 6.1.
