WM6 and unable to get DHCP address via ActiveSync - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Anybody having an issue with inability to obtain IP address after connecting through USB to host.
I upgraded device to WM6 and now it can not get IP address from DHCP server.

Search and you shall find......

Ip address problem 169.254.x.x can't connect to wifi network

I'm currently running wm5 ivan w/rd
i keep having this problem where i try to connect to a network, and it connects, but i can't do anything.
When i open up my ipconfig it shows the network ip address as 169.254.x.x where x is always something different. My router shows the mac address on the network but it's unreachable.
Does anyone have any idea where this ip is coming from? I've tried different radio versions, and it happens so far with 1.1.13 and 1.1.15 on both wm5 AND wm3.
169.254.xxx.xxx is a class of ip addresses set automatically to a device, when this can't connect the dhcp server. is a reserved network.
if your router is set as dhcp server, you must verify the link connection with pda. else you must configure the correct ip address manually to the pda.
download and run vxIPconfig and use that to release and renew a new IP from the DHCP server
Nine times out of ten this is caused by bad encryption settings. If you put in the wrong WEP key for example this is what you would see. You don't get error messages when it's wrong, which is kind-of by design and desirable for security reasons.
I'm downloading vxipconfig right now. I did a search last night and was reminded of 169.254.x.x coming up on machines when winsock is corrupt.
Another web site said something about how a pda will connect to the first computer with activesync through wifi under this ip address and try to sync, and then it will get a normal ip address. I don't know if this is true with this device.
@closer what do you mean verify the link connection? The router shows the pda's ip address in it's connection manager, but for any computer or pda i don't know a way to "verify the link" other than look at it. There's no command for this. The router is set up to correctly assign dhcp as i have 2 computers and 2 xbox's connected through lines, and 2 computers through wifi. I know i can manualy set the ip, which i often do for everything but the laptop, but this is a pain in the ass to try and find out the gateway of every single router when i'm out in town. That's a workaround, not a fix.
@Black6spdz I was using Myipconfig and it would release and renew to just a different 169.254.x.x. I'm going to try vxipconfig when this happens again.
--Well, last night i got pissed and abandoned working on it. Low and behold when i wake up today it's working fine and has the correct ip address. That sucks, because now i have no idea what was wrong.
so...
-It's time to go connect to some other networks and see if it resolves correctly.
-Then i'm going to go through the 3 different radio versions and see how they affect it.
when I had that problem it was because my settings were set up incorrectly.. If i were to use gprs, it'd work fine. But wifi would not. So i had to make a seperate setting with generic entries and not set up proxies. then wifi would work. sort of a pain. but it would work...

WLAN ok, but no websites are shown.

That's why I've never had an Windows Mobile device before.
Symbian, iPhone, everthing works fine with my WLAN. WPA Key and go go go
My Kaiser has a WLAN connection but the IE wont' show any page. Why?
First thing is to isolate the problem. Are you able to access the internet via Actice Sync? When connected to the WLAN are you able to access any other services on the internet such as windows live to check your email or if you have HTC HOME the weather info?
Also check to make sure you are getting a proper IP address, Gateway, and DNS server from the router to your PPC. Task Manager is a good utility which lets you run the Ipconfig/all command. You can also use the PING command in Task Manager to see if you can ping anything on the internet.
If you are getting the proper TCP/IP settings trying accessing a site using its IP address instead of its Domain Name to islolate if the problem is with the DNS server settings in PPC.
If still no luck post the results from the above troubleshooting and we'll go from there.
Correct IP Address, check! I forgot to mention...
Thank's for your help, I'll check the steps in the evening at home.^^
I just can connect to my router's IP address and see the configuration page. My device has it's own static IP.
IE says "site cannot be displayed, because the connection has been interrupted".
Do I have to quit HSPDA and Bluetooth? I guess not.
Let me know if you can connect to this http://134.126.10.50/

No, same error.
Surfing via ActiveSync is no problem.
If you said that it's possible to connect to router but not outside of router, then do you use MAC Access Control and/or MAC Fillter Internet Firewall on your router?
Possibility MAC Filter Internet Firewall. Without MAC Access Control specified, it's not possible to connect to router.
Hopefully it helps.
Best regards,
TwoAce
I'm using a MAC Filter, but the MAC of my Kaiser has been written to the MAC list. I'm trying without the filter...
Previously I could connect to my home WLAN, but I could not perform any surfing until I came across a suggestion to goto Settings->Wireless LAN->Power Mode slide to Best Performance.. and viola.. I am good to go..
don't know if you have the same issue, but jus my 2 cents.. ohh n I was using Polaris aka Touch Cruise..
I have the same problem as [email protected] has - the root cause may or may not be the same however. Here is what I found in my case -
(i) Connecting to WLAN - no probems, works every time
(ii) While connected to WLAN, sending/receiving emails through my exchange server or browsing my company's intranet site - no problem
(iii) Surfing internet while connected through USB cable/active sync - no problem
(iv) Can't connect to any internet site while connected to WLAN
I found that when connected through USB Cable/active sync - the proxy server address seen when I go to Settings->Connections->Connections->Edit proxy server is the correct company proxy server address. The moment I connect to WLAN - this field becomes blank. Even if I edit and insert the correct address, it doesn't stick. The moment I disconnet from WLAN and go and check the proxy server address - again it shows the correct address. So the root cause of the problem seems to be that something is wiping out the correct proxy address while I am connected to the WLAN.
I remember seeing a thread somewhere discussing this vanishing proxy settings problem. I wasn't able to find it today but I intend looking again when I get an hour or so.
I agree with roomer11 about the power settings, i have two HTC tytn ii's and i had the same problem with both(one mine, one is my wife's)...i'm running wpa2-psk now but does it on wep too...
It work's.
I have deactivated the MAC filtering. I doesn't make any sense, because the MAC I've entered is the right one, but ok. Must be a Windows Mobile voodoo thing.

Opal Wifi problem: "Mac not valid"

Hi,
I'm trying to connect to an unsecured wifi network but when I login via its login page i get the error "mac is not valid"
I have an IP and a gateway address given to me by the server admin but i keep getting this error while logging in.
Could that be a server based problem or i need to look for the mac address of my phone?

Internet Sharing with Windows 7... anyone got it working? [SOLVED]

Hi all,
I used to use my Diamond connected via USB and the 'Internet Sharing' function to provide Internet access to my laptop running Vista without any problems whatsoever...
However I have recently upgraded to Vista and don't seem to be getting anywhere... or rather getting somewhere but not far enough!
Specifically, I can connect the Diamond to the laptop via USB and run 'Internet Sharing' on the device. Having hit Connect and connected to the Internet (confirmed my running a browser on the Diamond) the laptop detects a 'Remote NDIS Internet Sharing Device' in the Device Manager. It then adds a connection in Network Connections but seemingly-fails to get any further. It looks like the DHCP requests are falling on deaf ears and without an IP address it's not going to get far beyond that...
Anyone with any ideas? Or, at the very least, could someone confirm that they have got Internet Sharing working with Windows 7, even if they didn't necessarilly have to do anything special?
Regards,
Mathew
Typical... you think you've tried everything, you've exhausted Google and posted a forum post as a last resort plea for help.... Five minutes later you sort it! Mustn't moan I suppose... and in case anyone else hits this problem here's how to sort it:
The problem was calling out to me really - DHCP. I had Layer 2 connectivity but without establishing anything at Layer 3 it simply wasn't going to work so if statically asign the IP address then I could at least rule DHCP out of the equation to see what additional hurdle, if any, had to be then tackled.
The problem was that without knowing the address at the other end (i.e. the Diamond) then I wouldn't know what subnet to put my laptop in. However, this all worked fine on Vista so I fired it up and ran Wireshark (network packet sniffer) and could see that the laptop was being given an IP address from the 192.168.0.0/24 subnet and that the other end (whether that be the Diamond or some virtual device that at least representa it) was sat on 192.168.0.1. Strangely, the other end had a MAC address of 82:00:60:0F:E8:00 and the laptop 80:00:60:0F:E8:00 - whilst they're not globally assigned this must be what Microsoft use on the local link for these types of connections.
So, back to Windows 7, I fired up Internet Sharing and connected to my ISP. I now had a LAN connection listed on the laptop under Network Connections so I forced a static address assignment by right-clicking it and selecting Properties > Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP) > Properties and assigning the following:
IP Address: 192.168.0.80 (choose anything within 192.168.0.2-254 but stay away from anything you might already have assigned to other connection e.g. wireless/wired Ethernet etc)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server: 192.168.0.1
Hit OK and then, being the Microsoft way, you will likely need to bruteforce the new application of the new setting by disconnecting and reconnecting the Internet Sharing connection. The LAN connection on the laptop will disappear and reappear, hopefully with a static address assigned (right-click it and select Status - DHCP should be disabled).
I still don't know why DHCP was failing but regardless I've got what I wanted - shared access to the Internet!
Cheers,
Mathew
Nice one, thanks for sharing.

[Question/Request] DHCP IP assignment timeout

Hey coders,
I have a question regarding the networking subsystem in Android.
I know that dhclient.conf in linux will allow a "timeout" parameter that lets you set the DHCP request timeout. I'm wondering if there's some way to do that in Android. It's not immediately obvious to me, so that's why I'm asking.
Before, when I was stock, my phone had no issues connecting to my work's wireless SSID--even though it would sometimes take a long time to obtain an IP address, it would eventually connect.
Now, I've flashed CyanogenMod 5.0.5.3-N1, and I can still associate with my work's wireless network, but it appears to timeout the attempt to obtain an IP address too soon. My Palm Pre and my laptop can connect to the same, and I've verified that my stock ROM can also still connect, but when I flash to CM, I can no longer obtain an IP address successfully anymore.
I'm wondering how difficult it would be to modify the DHCP obtain IP timeout?
Thanks everyone!
--Hans
same problem here as well also on cm5.0.3.1 and 5.0.6.test2...
Haven't tried modifying it, but you can look at /system/etc/dhcpcd/dhcpcd.conf. Here's a man page.
Doesn't seem to help. I added "timeout 360" to the bottom of dhcpcd.conf and it doesn't increase the time that passes between "obtaining IP Address from <SSID>" and "unsuccessful".
Must be something else in android?
