Teaching ATT Tilt to get TMC traffic updates - what are my options?

Hey guys,
I've been using iGo 2006 Plus on my ATT Tilt and now I'm wondering what are my options to get TMC updates for the GPS?
I read that you gotta have a certain antenna for that and whatever else.... however, I have unlimited HSDPA connection on it and I'm curious if its possible to get TMC through it and feed it to the GPS software.
Was anybody sucessfull at that and if so, what did you use?

TMC is only available through a GPS application that has subscription to the service.
As yet, there is no 'stand-alone' TMC reciever' for the 'Kaiser', you will only get TMC traffic reports as a data download via GPRS/EMSD/3G connection within a GPS application such as TomTom or Garmin XT while you are using that application.
So TomTom does have TMC through GPRS, but iGo doesn't?

Can't really confirm that cause I have not used iGo but TMC for any app on the 'Kaiser' at this time needs an active data connection, whereas a dedicated GPS device like the Garmin Nuvi has an 'add-on' FM receiver for this function.
Use Live Search. It's pretty accurate when it comes to traffic, and you can use teh GPS, as well getting directions and others. I love it. And use it daily.

Well, since I do have unilimited data, and I don't want any extra thingies to haul around with my Kaiser... I guess I'll give tomtom a try
Can't really push this, but look in the 'Trash' forum..... for Garmin XT.

You won't know until you look!! But forget it if you don't....
One thing you have to remember is this forum is 'Worldwide'! TMC is only good for US/Europe so take that into account..
Yeah I know. I've checked the list of supported countries - US is in it.. So it should work.
So Live Search GPS.. is it free?

As far as I know, Live search only uses your GPRS/3G connection so if you have a data package then (yes/no) you are already paying for it!!
Someone using Livesearch jump in here!!
Hmm... downloaded Live Search, it runs.. but there's no maps, just a GPS's arrow in a middle of nowhere hehe.. Gotta check their support forums.

Haha, sure its not night time there??
Well that's the beauty of forums =)
I figures it out, I've made a separate post in case someone else has this problem..
Live Search is cool, however it doesn't have good turn-by-turn navigation and no voice guidance. And I'm not sure if it truly creates a route with traffic in mind.. Or just shows traffic info..
I'll try TomTom and see what it does.. so far screenshots of it look pretty bad, actually... iGo looks a whole lot better.. but TMC is worth the sacrifice for me.
I am afraid I don't find a 'trash' forum, am I missing something?

Your fav gps prog?

what is yours? i was using destinator when i was in greece as tom tom didnt have the greek map.
what about google navigator? or should i stick with google maps ?

ah yes visualgpsce, no maps, but great program for various info
I'd have to say TOMTOM all the way. I prefer it...
GPS Test, TomTom
GPSTuner for geocaching (now with realtime map download).
Tomtom for road.
and what about iGo my way
Just IMO
iGo looks nice but TomTom is better to operate
tomtom 6 & iGO (for eastern europe)
Tomtom by far in my opinion, however I do have a new favorite GPS program, not for navigation though.
It's called navizon, if you haven't heard of it check it out at navizon.com
it's similar to google maps, but the real use of this program in my opinion is that they pay for location information collected about wifi ap's and cell toweres.
What I do it start it up, then start up tomtom, so navizon runs in the background, in a week I made $40.
They also have a pretty good referral program, so if you do like it, I would appreciate it if you would use my number when signing up.
The program if free to use for this purpose by the way, so there is no catch
Sorry for sounding spammy, but I really do think this program is cool and I really did make $40 in a week.
Here's my referral number if you are so inclined: 5D56565E5A56
or a direct link to the sign up page:

but tomtom has weak maps for Slovakia
tomtom for turn-by-turn directions, windows live search for proximity searches, I need to try the geocaching app gpstuner.
Mapkings
I m using MAPKINGS
And i think its quite good for Malaysian user.
iGuidance 4.0
I prefer iGuidance 4.0 over TomTom. I find that the user interface is easier to use.
i like TrackMe for tracking, TomTom is best in usability but Garmin is also nice, but expensive
So many apps out there...
TrackMe for well tracking. What an excellent program!
Noni GPS Plot for when I just want to be a geek and look at satelite reception / have a GPS Speedo in the car.
MemoryMap, for its ability to read OS Maps (thats similar to Topo maps for the US members). Great for off-roading.
Google / Pocket Streets when I'm in an unknown area. Especially Google, gotta love that integration!
I did use TomTom years ago when it was v.2. It was good for Sat-Nav, then I got a real Garmin Sat-Nav and found TomTom was relegated to the cupboard. I have no need to change it since it meets my needs (don't think the Kaiser would like being used on a Motorcycle, least not in the open where I could see the screen...)
navizon group - ATT Tilt
navizon is cool. just made a public group so we can see each other (ATT Tilt)
Are you guys that are using TomTom using the $149 software available on their corporate website?
Garmin XT - Honestly, it dominates over TomTom.
Nudar
Nudar is by far better than TomTom or Garmin XT. You guys should all check it out:

which navigation software?

can anyone give me an advise on which navigation software I should use on my kaiser? I tried tomtom already but didn't like pretty much.

Can you tell us what it was about TomTom that you didn't like?
Hi,
don't try Navigon MobileNavigator in the Kaiser. Navigon stops navigation if the GPS-Signal is lost (e.g. driving through a tunnel). In this case you get the message "destiantion reached" and Navigon just shows where you are.
In general I believe NAvigon is better as TomTom but not on the Kaiser. It works very well on my Universal.
Cheers
Michael
Hi !
Correct... MN unusable if used in some tunnels (although it has a more professional touch).
I prefer igo... fast and usable and u can use skins.
Copilot Live 7 is pretty damned good.

Same here. I have IGO and OCN6, which is VERY similar to IGO. . . actually I gave my son the OCN6 and I kept the IGO for myself.
i'm using tomtom myself and i found it to be the best one for me...
iNav iGuidance V4
I have been using iGuidance since I got the Tilt and I have to say it is a good program. Menus are nice and easy to use on the go. Speaks the street names to you and will let you change colors and 4 different views. It is available on different torrents and it doesnt require any registration for PPC install. There is a certain way everything has to be done. If you are able to download and need hepl just let me know. Free is always good. Kevin

I Guidance 4.0 and MN6
Hello,
I guidance 4.0 is the best with TTS and pretty fast to load. MN6 is very professional but lacks the TTS and otherwise it is pretty good with live view.
Price does matter..
Thanks
Raj..

See this vid for the 3 best working navigation systems on Diamond!

IGO8 Is the best navigation program for the Diamond. Any attempt to compare is useless.

Thanks.

Any attempt to use IGO if you're in the US is also useless, unfortunately. Hoping they come out with US maps eventually. Until then, TomTom will do it for me.
tomtom for me
used it from day one on my diamond
does all i need it for
GARMIN?
Never heard that you could get garmin navigation on phones.
Out of igo and ttni'd say tomtom7 is still the best.
any ideas where i can download garmin? torrents or rapidshare appreciated.
I use tomtom
I´ve tried IGo8 but i think its kind of messy i can´t find the functions and so on....
tomtom is more right foreward

I've just removed iGo 8 and put tomtom back on as both have the delay, but tomtom is sooooo much better.
You can find Garmin on the bay, though its v4. If you want v5 you can pm me for a "secret" link.
Tom Tom's routing is better I think after trying both programs on my Diamond. IGO8 sent me on a weird route over the clifton bridge in Bristol which it never announced as a toll route the other day. They both have the same delay. Tom Tom is much easier to use and less cluttered but IGO8 does look nice with the 3D maps and the graphics in the menu system. Also the spoken instructions in IGO 8 are clearer and more concise than Tomtom.
So, if you want a navigation system that looks nice then go for IGO8. If you want to get to A to B with confidence, which is what these programs are all about then go for Tomtom.
In my opinion of course!

Love Garmin XT - pretty close on accuracy to my standalone. Very quick it pretty much finds everything. Has ability to direct call found places. The only issue with most phone GPS programs is they suck the battery dry pretty quickly.
I have TomTom 7.917.9186_vga_black ver, Garmin, IGO all in my sd.
Frequently use TomTom, simply b-coz of its custamizability ( voice, map colour, car, poi etc.)
BUT all three works well in my TP.
You better ask " best gps navigation Program"
There are more good gps programs other than navigation.
Used them all....
I've personally used them all, and I find TomTom to be the fastest and most reliable. It just eats away at your battery.
Maybe its just me ;-)
igo is great
hi all
i think no one know what the best program navigator can use
i was use IGO before and i will try to use TOMTOM
i will post feedback to who concern
i use garmin xt and igo8 ... but tomtom is good too. u have to try and see what fits u the best
tomtom or ndrive.
Both work for me.
If cost is no concern, I stand by TomTom being the best... But only if you pay for the monthly subscription on top of the software cost.. The live traffic with rerouting you... gas prices around where you are is very convient too (and yes, I know that Bing and otehrs do this too), newer version do that cool 3D buildign thing that igo does (but TomTom doesnt; crash every 5 min)... TomTom has all the cool voices to direct you (I personally love C3PO "You have reached your destination master" in the english accent ) It also has this cool feature that if you buddy has tomtom as well, and say you are at a concert to fair or some other large outdoor thing.. you can both turn it on and in teh "buddy" area you can both update your live position to eachother so you can meet up... I also find this handy when traveling to things with my family.. we each have tomtom on our phones. You can controll what POI's are displayed, and even download updated POI packs for free right though the TomTom software as long as your phone has an internet connection... You can get car Icons ro repalce the "you are here" arrow thing on the map... you can even take a picture of your own car and just edit the background out (but if you look online.. people have already taken pics of many many cars, I am sure you can find your right make/color . the driving map is a nice 3D style, which I find a lot easier to navigate than the Google maps or Bing... There is a Daytime/Nighttime button in the menu that changes all the colors on the screen to bright daytime or dark night time colors, right out of the box... you can custome either as well...
Sorry to ramble, but you get the point... While TomTom doesn't do much that you can't find in another program, it does all the best things in just 1 prgram instead of having to decide which of 2 or 3 other ones to use because you have to travel across the state, find some address you never been to before in a strange city.... You get hungry along the way for mexican food, on the way back you need to get gas and want to know what is the cheapest price that is along your route that you are traveling... TomTom just works, and is nice.
garmin xt FTW !!!
IGo is the best
i am from the tomtom gang
Garmin, chinga su madre!
GPS Software for Fuze
I've used Garmin XT since it was v4. Frankly, on my Fuze the 3d view lags (the 2d view does not) such that I typically pass a turn 10-20 seconds before it shows my car at the turn's location on the screen. However, the voice prompts are dead on.
Recently, I purchased CoPilot Live v8. It's a good bit less expensive and there is no lag that I can discover. It is not as feature rich as Garmin XT -- Garmin offers free live traffic updates; CoPilot does not. But CoPilot has a Live Search like Garmin's Google Search. And it finds fuel stops just as well.
I must say that so far I prefer CoPilot's UI. Finding a location is simpler by a few keystrokes. And it shows upcoming POIs clearly enough -- and with icons that are big enough -- that you can click on the screen and get more details in a popup.
I'm not sure that CoPilot's maps are any better -- or worse -- than Garmins' yet. I've read that CoPilot's maps are not as accurate, but I have yet to experience it personally. I'll know more after a few upcoming trips.
Even so, I'm not taking Garmin off my Fuze just yet.

The choice will very much depend on the quality of maps, available for your area. You would have little use for a good navigation software if the map it uses is very basic.
I have used them all. I really liked IGO but the one i find most reliable is Tom Tom. Good luck
I use a free app called Waze.
