This first post was copied from the 2.61 radio rom thread, I think I am on to something here so I decided to start a new thread. I think I need the help of the experts on this one. Long story short I think I may be able to fix the issues that WM6 has using radios above 2.19. Read more below.

That is what I am starting to think. I have tried just about all the radio roms on both my wizards from 2.19.11 and up.

All the Radio roms above 2.19.11 work great except for one huge show stopper. The GPRS/EDGE drops off and never comes back.
The problem can be reproduced very easily. On roms 2.25.11, 2.47 and 2.61 if I turn on flight mode then turn it off again I don't get the GPRS/EDGE connection back until I reboot the device. Now if it only happened when I turned the radio of and on agian I could live with it, however it happens randomly, I never know when it is going to happen. I usually notice pretty quickly because I get a lot of emails and when the emails stop I know the damn radio F*&%ED up again.
Well you might ask, why don't I just use the 2.19 radio and go on with my life? I am, but the damn reception sucks mega bad on the 2.19 radio. I live in a rural area and the 2.61 radio gets exceptional reception in all "fringe areas" with the 2.61 rom this wizard will best any other phone. I have gotten comments about it, like "your phone works here?".
SO WHY DOES THE GPRS/EDGE DROP? I gues a better question is, is there some sort of tweak/hack that could restart the GPRS? What about that radio operator diagnostics?
I am really in a damn jam here, I love WM6, I hate the 2.19 radio reception but love the reliable data, I love the 2.61 reception but I can't lose data randomly (what is the point of a PPC with exchange push email and an unlimted data plan when I drop data, I pay a good premium for these services)

Could we cook up a WM6 ROM that has some of the executables from one of the AKUs that work with the new radio? I guess I need to try one of the WM5 Roms to check out what happens with the 2.61 radio.
Edit again: I just tried the 2.47 and 2.61 radio with Molski.Biz's AKU 2.3 Final and the GPRS/EDGE drop problem doesn't happen when going into flight mode and back again.
I am now going to test Faria's AKU 3.3 Rom and see what happens there. 3.3 is i believe the last AKU before WM6, perhaps a DLL or 2 could be snagged from there and cooked into a WM6 ROM, does anyone know what DLL/EXE is in charge of the radio/GPRS?
I think I can "Cook" a fix for this!!!

I just tried Faria's AKU 3.3 rom with the 2.61 radio and BAM no problem turing off and on radio and getting the data back.
WHAT DLLs and or EXEs control the radio? I think a swap of those files will fix WM6!!!!
Ok so here is what I have tried so far.
Using Molski.Biz rom cooking tools I dumped the base WM6 ROM and Faria's AKU 3.3 rom.
I took the folder called gsm610.acm from Faria's ROM and pasted it over top of the one from WM6. That didn't work. Then I looked at the dlls. I found a dll in Faria's rom called GSMAMRDLL.dll, that file doesn't exist in WM6. I would probably need to register that somehow. I will try to dig up the reg settings. For now I am just pasting it in to my WM6 build to see what happens.
there is on other DLL that I am looking into "gsmamrenc.dll" I pasted that over top of the one in WM6.
I am building and flashing now. I will let you all know what happens.
If anyone has ANY ideas on what DLLs, EXEs or Reg settings are needed to fix WM6 issues with later radios PLEASE contribute.
try these....if they dont work let me know.... ther is others...
try the phone.dll and ril.dll first.....note....you may need the whole radio files from the donor rom in order to work.

Ok Faria Thanks for the quick response. I just reflashed with the gsmamrenc.dll and GSMAMRDLL.dll from your rom with no success.
What about HwGlueLayer.dll and WirelessService.dll?
Do you think those might have something to do with it?
I am thinking HwGlueLayer because maybe it is a problem with how the OS talks to the hardware?
O and one more question, is AKU 3.3 the latest and greatest pre WM6?
ok I replaced the files you sugested and I get a cprog.exe is not a valid windows mobile application error. I also do not get any service at all now. There is a little exclaimation mark by the tower icon.
I am going to try putting cprog.exe back to the WM6 version and see how it goes.
EDIT: I put cprog.exe folder back to the original WM6 version and the phone works now without errors but the problem is still there. I was going to try swapping WirelessService.dll but it looks to be the same version 0.0.6.0
Any other ideas Faria or anyone else what to chip in their 2 cents?

also look for a file called phonesettings.dll
i think the file we need is rill.dll
but most problably we need to replace the whole radio stack.
by the way my 3.3 has a totally new radio stack.hence why it works.

So your 3.3 Rom has a new radio stack you say? Where did you get it from? Do you have it split from the rest of the rom so I can just paste it in there?
What is the latest version of your AKU 3.3? The one I dumped has an nk.nbf file dated 1/27/07. Do you have some sort of instant messaging client? Perhaps we could work through this faster if I could IM you. I have AIM and windows live.

yes its does....sorry cant tell you that....and no i dont have the files readily available. plus we also nedd the reg settings....this is major surgery.....and at the moment i dont have the time....

Sounds like fun. I appreciate your help and I am sure that many others with appriciate a good clean WM6 rom that works with the latest and greatest radios. I will check with you in a couple days. BTW your roms are HOT. I might put your AKU 3.3 back on one of my devices for the time being to get the reception and stability I am looking for in the meantime.
Good project you are working on but only wish that i could do something. This could help the people that have problems with radio rom problems. Good luck.
One question i have (May help you or not): Have you looked at the radio rom that came with the wm6 rom (was not the first leaked wm6 rom but was the first i think that ran on the wizard and was Chinese )?

I don't have the radio rom from the chinese version. I have tried just about every radio rom I could find, but I mainly focused on the major versions: 2.19,2.25,2.47 and 2.61.
I think that Faria has got the answer here, I just need to wait untill he can help me with getting the new radio stack into WM6.
What I am trying to do is build a clean rom based on the base rom. Not one that has 400 little apps running on the today screen. I need something that is strictly business that just works. I am including some stuff in my rom don't get me wrong. THe little handy things: Pocket Rar, Pocket PDF X-Button. The other things in this rom are reg tweaks like WirelessG, EDGE icon etc.
One unique thing that I am putting in this rom is native keyboard selection with working T9 (predictive text entry) support. I think little features like this will be most helpful to people on this board that use my WWE rom but have QWERTZ or AWERTY keyboards. Lots of people here don't have the standard 0409 keymapping. If they install WWE roms they get messed up keys then when they figure out how to fix it they get no T9 support. I want something that works nice out of the box so it doesn't have to be reg tweaked and customized after a flash or hard reset, but like I said before it is going to be really clean, there won't be an ext rom in this pack everyting is going to be integrated. Reliability is the top concern. It must be stable.

hey cowboy, I am definitely interested in the results of your little experiement here and I am goign to bookmark this thread. I am in Washington DC so although I don't have the rural issue, the building where I work is old so I am constantly in and out of signal there so 2.19 definitely sucks for me. 2.47 is better but it does have the same GPRS issue.
I can be of ABSOLUTELY no technical assistance ( Sorry) but I will be happy to test anything you, Faria, and anyone else come out with.
PS Perhaps this should be in the WM6 folder since all these issues only arise with WM6. Plus I check that one a lot more often now that I have upgraded to 6

Cool man. Since I am waiting on Faria to give me a hand with the radio stack I am working on a program to bypass the cellular time and get time str8 of off pool.ntp.org. I called my wireless provider about the fact that they are not providing the correct time zone info and I had to explain to the woman on the phone what a timezone was. I have the address for the president of Unicel (my wireless provider) and I am going to send him a bill for my time update program with an explaination of why I had to write it. I don't think they will pay me but they might give me a credit on my account.
Anyway I am going to be providing roms that just do the stuff they are supposed too. no frills. I see posts about the keymapping and the time thing and the radio all over these boards. If a programmer like me can fix these three issues and maybe more I think it will make a lot of people very happy.

I have the new WM6 mun_rus rom, and want to downgrade to the 2.19 radio rom. The problem is, when I try to install it, I get the error that I need a newer update utility or something...
Anyone knows how to fix this?

Do you have a G3 or G4. If you have a G3 it should be no problem.
Do you have the latest ActiveSync? Version 4.5? you will need this aswell.

G4. I installed this radio rom previously, with the Wizard_Love ROM and worked fine, but it changed when I put another ROM on it (WM6 I think, might be Faria's AKU 3.3 ROM tho). I do have AS 4.5.
Tried the NL one by the way, gonna try if the UK one works now. I'll let you know
Edit: Nope, doesn't work either Tried it also with AS 4.2, but no luck with that. WM6 can't sync with 4.2, only with 4.5 and the Vista sync thingy, which I also tried but the RUU crashes when I try to update it :/
Would it work if I put the nk.bf in another directory where another version of the RUU is?

Just to let you know, I had problems when the first AKU 3.3 ROMS showed up with missed calls and no voicemail notifications when using 2.25 or 2.47 radios (2.19 was not available at the time). So I ended up going back to an AKU 2.3 ROM. I guess Faria's AKU 3.3 worked because he has a whole new stack like he mentioned.

I'm using Faria's new WM6 (The Real Thing) with the 2.61.11 and this problem does not happen to my MDA.
I put the device into flight mode (turns the radio off and I get double "X"s up top). When I take the device out of flight mode, the radio comes back just fine...I send a test email to myself from the internet and I get it within 30 seconds.
Is there something special about my MDA?

Great! Just last weekend I spent at least 3-4 hours figuring out how to upgrade my SX66 to 1.06.02. Now I have to start all over again. Oh well, at least now I know what the process is....
Has anyone been able to extract the Radio ROM (and possibly decrypt/recrypt) for use on our PDA2Ks? I am curious to see if it improves anything, since 1.06.02 is still not good enough for my tastes. :wink:

I have access to a KPN mobile Qtek 9090. In fact our company bought two. But I have fooled around with mine, without being careful enough
So I ended up with 1.0.6 on my device.
However, the other device still has 1.0.8 on it. If anybody can tell me exactly how I can dump the radio ROM, and get my 1.0.8 installed on my device again, I would be very gratefull
Of course I can post the dump here, just tell me how to do that...

To dump radio ROM you'll need an 64Mb or bigger SD-card, a cardreader (to make an image of SD-card) and read this link:

To dump only radio ROM you'll need to enter the command "d2s 60000000 00300000" in MTTY. Or you can dump all 3 ROMs (main, radio and extended) if you have time. Instead of NTRW program you may use WinImage to make SD-card image.
Place SD-card image to ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel and I or someone else would extract radio from your image and publish it here.
saqibj. Radio ROM deals nothing with bluetooth or WiFi. It is only a GSM ROM.
Just read on PPCW.net that the XDA III (BlueAngel) that was recently released in Germany has radio 1.10.00:

Hi Guys, I am working on it. Only problem is, I only have 1 gb storage cards, so I need a lot of patience and get enormous nb1 files as ntrw.exe seems to read the entire storagecard. I will see how big they are when I zip them.
I am trying my device first (with the wrong rom) just to be on the safe side... I already spent an 18 hour sunday on trying to fix my stupid mistakes...

I have extracted radio ROM from SD-card image and uploaded it to the same directory. File - 1.08.rar
I have checked, it is really 1.08 radio ROM but I have not flashed it to my device yet. So use this update at your own risk. Extracted extended ROM is also there. Nothing interesting there. OEM_WWE_124_008.sa.CAB contains the same 3500 BT stack and several updated drivers. Someone who has sound problems with BT headset should try installing this CAB, reboot and check the quality.

A low bluetooth range and sometimes i can't hear anything before a during call.

I recommend you wait for a few days because qtek will be releasing rom 1.40 with radio 1.12 and extended rom 1.40.111
I'm using this rom now and works pretty well.
Comes with media player 10.

Well, I just spoke to a clueless I-Mate support person who said it would be about 2 months because they are busy working on the PDA2, but another tech support person told someone else 2 weeks last week.
So basically, with I-Mate, you never get a straight answer, so who the hell knows.

What has your friend to do with sharing this, unless he was the original developer?
And Brightpoint is a major distributor/reseller...so I am curious to see "how" they would share this with us, users. Usually, updates are communicated through the telco's. This is because the telco's have to pay the OEM for (most) upgrades...so they consider this "customer service" for their clients.
Guess I now have to become a Brightpoint customer...?

Sorry HappyGoat, this gotta be an hopeless portuguese user ...
In a few days my cute, little butt! :evil: I called Brightpoint in Sweden today, and they said they hoped to have it out within a month! Apparently they had sendt it to the Creator (God or HT, I'm not sure...), and there was sort of a service pack for WM in it as well.
As far as i concern, only the blackberry has been added to the latest rom for the IIi from o2, those monkey didn't even update the radio version (1.03 latest) ...
It will be tomorrow.......
Hey Pug - how you getting on with the radio on the latest O2 IIi ROM?
Read somewhere on this site that the new ROM wouldn't work with the radio 1.03. Thought I'd persevere for a couple of days but it wouldn't work.
I then thought what "Fu** it" and went back to 1.11.162 as realisticaly I'd never use Blackberry much anyway. It'd be cheaper for me to check my e-mails over GPRS.
Should delete that modified update from the FTP as it doesn't work, unless someone wants to see if they can get it to work.
ta for the update, I'm using O2's new ROM with Blackberry support - and so far (touch wood!) - it seems ok.
ja it does seem ok at pressent ..does anyone find that it connects much faster when say updating traffic on tomtom ..not sure if it is my imagination or not

The new 02 ROM has problems with using Bluetooth headsets I have found and I dont care about the Blackberry bit. I am going to revert back to 162 over the weekend.
Pug, i cant find your cooked 1.03 Radio with 162 extended ROM, can you provide me with an updated link please?

what XDA IIs ROM Upgrade? where?
Its the O2-UK ROM upgrade, see http://www.my-xda.com. It has new O2 active, B/T build 3900, Radio build 1.12, Win CE version 1.4, BB Connect V2.0. But everytime i try to run it, it says file corrupt.
New and changed in this version of software, v1.40.237 are:
O2 Active UI v3.6.024
Bluetooth build 3900
Radio build 1.12
Windows mobile CE version 1.40
BlackBerry Connect v2.0
Removal of Photo Contacts

Looks like a f*ck up, but I've let the product manager know.
I've had the same problem- they can't get anything right- we wait months and months and then they upload a corrupt file!

Seems the sound loss on shutdown of wmp10 still exists, not sure about the volume loss bug, when receiving / making calls.
Seems quicker overall though.
can someone get me the cab file for o2 active UI cos i wanna try it with wm5.0, i know it prob aint going to work, but hell, i can try it. 8)
It's on the ftp under /Uploads/BlueAngel, its the install.arm.cab file thats about 2.5 meg.

but this version is with different ext rom, the instalator is created on 5 december 2005, so it is a lil newer (1.42.115 created on 26 october 2005)
and the sizes are different (1.42.115 size is 42,853,293 bytes and 1.42.119 is 42,851,694 bytes)

Not really an issue, me thinks..
You might find that the T-Mobile connection settings have been tweaked a little.. Besides, the size has increased by about 1.56Kb (About the size of a small email)
Don't forget that the EXTRom carries the Programs, Connection Settings and other Unique bits whereas the ROM, 1.42.00 is probably the same..
I'll stick to my UK Spec 1.42 with my UK Settings..

Upgraded, connection to GPS mouse through COM port became broken - it works for a rendom period of time (1 second-10 minutes) then disconects.
Will perform more investigation this weekend.
Any updates on this new WiFi Manager? or are we still having the issue where wifi will not turn on without a soft-reset???
I think it's the best rom available for speed, Wi-fi and bluetooth!!!!

Please softreset your device. Then check the EXTROM.
When I finished upgrading this new rom, I found this error message too.

Yes, 1.42 is your best choose. Please upgrade it, then you should feel the best ROM that you have.

I've tried to upgrade my T-mobile MDA3 with this Rom but while applying FIX.BAT script it reported the following WARNING:
THIS DOESN`T LOOK LIKE A NBF HEADER, POSSIBLE YOU PROVIDED THE WRONG PASSWORD.
Any hint how to avoid this? What's a password for 142 rom?
So far I upgraded successfully to version 122 WWE but I want to try 142.
