I'd love to flash the latest DOPOD ROM onto my trinity, I'd love to play around sticking new and funky ROMs onto it, but I have one big problem...
I can't extract the current ROM from it, I can't find it for download anywhere, so if something DOES go wrong, I can't re-flash the original ROM back onto the device to send it back to Orange
So unless some Orange user has managed to extract the UK Orange ROM from it, I'm going to have to live with what I have
I believe there is little risk in flashing with the new dopod rom, your phone keeps 3 sections for memory wich is basically:
NOW:
1.Ram memory
2.Storage memory (Orange rom)
3.Backup memory (Backup Orange Rom)
AFTER FLASHING:
1.Ram memory
2.Storage memory (Dopod rom)
3.Backup memory (Backup Orange Rom)
The new rom will only write to storage memory while the orange rom you origionally had will stay in the backup storage. (unless you use an 'extended' rom, this will clear your 'backup' memory and make it 'storage' memory and remove the orange version)
So if you have huge problems with the dopod rom you just have to follow the hard reset instructions in the spv manual. ( press the two buttons above the 'send' and 'cancel' (red/green) keys and push the reset button next to the usb port with your stylus) This will reload the Orange rom from the 'backup memory' and restore your phone to its origional state.
Ive just flased my SPV M700 to the new rom and everything seems to be fine bar the gprs/edge settings.
See this site for a breif walkthrough:

I've just flashed my SPV M700 with the latest Dopod ROM and it works just fine, give it a try.
Alan
For some reason when i hard reset the device it doesnt flash back to the orange rom.
Obviously this is weird so, for now, DISREGARD MY PREVIOUS POST!!!
With the HTC CHarmer a rom could be restored via hard reset but im unsure why the HTC Trinity isnt restoring. So if your worried hold off till this has been sorted.
Has anyone ever restored the factory rom on a trinity yet?
Looks like I'll be waiting then
I have complete confidence in the new DOPOD rom, I just want to be able to go back to the Orange one in case it needs to go back, thats all.
It's a bit annoying that the bootloader on the Trinity doesnt let you backup the ROM, not sure why they disabled that feature.
There must be some way to backup the original ROM so I can reflash if there's a problem, just nobody seems to be able to suggest anything, sigh
OK
I've dumped the ROM from my M700 got part00.raw, part01.raw and part02.raw.
The rest, making it into a flashably ROM, is way above my head, if someone can do the rest, I'll send the files across.
any progress on that flashable rom Antimus?
Take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308152
I had a similar problem. My second Trini (Orange SPV from France) died during OS module transfer. In my case the reason was a faulty mini-SD inserted into the PDA. Should this be your case, remove the mini SD card and re-flash.
Your case of a partial flashing stinks similar to mine.
In my case, using Olipro's Custom RUU updater, I could flash individual modules of the ROM (obtaining no error but getting no actual results in the Trini), except the OS, for which the screen faded off and the Trini hanged.
This happened the same way with any ROM (WWE, Spanish, WM6...).
Using MTTY (supported by POF - very known guy of this forum), we obtained hundreds of errors.
Just removed the SD, re-flashed and the French SPV opened its ears to life as a pure Spanish GPS-enabled HTC P3600.
Cannot offer any help beyond that.

Hi,
Thanks to the very clever people over at www.imei-check.co.uk I now have an unlocked T-Mobile Vario.
http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m3000unlock.php
I now wish to know if I can flash my unlocked Wizard with an Imate K-Jam2 flash?
I know there is another post on flashing the the Qtek 9100 with the K-Jam but I dont know if the T-Mobile Vario will pose any different issues or problems.
What I want to know is :-
1) Can it be done, can I flash my T-Mobile Vario with a K-Jam2 ROM?
2) How do I make a backup of my T-Mobile ROM before taking the plunge?
I am a Sony Ericsson P900 convert so please be gentle with me on your responses. I'm no expert but have got this far (Unlocked) by reading these and other forums.
If any of you can help out I would be most gratefull.
Cheers
Lee
I have (had) a Vario from T-Mobile Netherlands. I unlocked like you and ran the ROM upgrade utility for Qtek 9100, available for download on :-
http://www.beyondthetech.com/blogs/kjam/
It works fine. My Dutch phone now talks to me in English.... phew!
@belgilux
What are the advanges of the qtek rom over the vario ??
Niets dat ik kan bespeuren. Enkel is ding dat zijn in WWE - wereld Wijde Engels - dit is good voor mij aangezien mijn Nederlands niet zo goed is. ..
ok thanks ,
mijn nederlands is goed , dus hou hem liever in nederlands

Hey, guys, I have the same problem - I want to change the OS from a german to en english one. My device is the XDA Mini S from O2 Germany. Do I *really* need to pay for unlocking first or I can just flash it?
P.S. How did you back up the ROM before the flashing?
hello ingenious ,
as far as i know , you have to unlock it first otherwise you can't acces the bootloader.
buckup of your old rom can be done (only after unlocking).
you need the program romupdate.exe
disable activesync on usb connection
turn off phone
connect usb cable while pressing camera button
start romupdate
chooice usb connection
enter 'r2sd all' this coppies your phone rom to your sd card (sd card will be erased !!!!!)
next step is to dump the sd card to file to store.
you need ntrw.exe and sd card reader
in a dos box in a dir with ntrw enter 'ntrw read dump.nb1 drive_letter_of_reader:'
that will dump you entire sd card to file.
to restore , but it back with ntrw write .......
reset phone while holding voice an camera button and chooise restore from sd card.
good luck , arnold
p.s. i'm wrinting this out of my memory so forgive me if i have something wrong.
Hey, thanks very much
Just a thing bothers me still... If I unlock the phone (i.e. replace the boot loader) won't I just lose my warranty from O2?
mhh that doesn't worry me to much,
officiali it will only void your warrnaty if they can proof that that is the problem.
if not they can not hold it against you (in holland that is) , but you may have to 'fight' for your warranty.

I have successfully replaced the ROM on my MDA Vario with a K-Jam ROM and now I want to go back to the original ROM. Following the instructions by arnoldl earlier in this thread I created a backup dump.nb1 file and used ntrw_189.exe in a CMD window to dump this to a file. This took bloomin' ages since I have a 1GB card - very tiresome!
Anyway, I have now reversed that process to copy the dump file back to the mini-SD card but when I hard reset my Vario I do not get a prompt to restore from the SD card. I only have options to restore to original settings or cancel.
I have allowed a hard reset to complete and the mini-SD card does not even register in the Vario. Removing and reinserting does nothing. I've tried a hard reset twice and still no joy.
Assuming I have successfully created a working ROM image on my mini-SD card are there any other tips or options for restoring it to the Vario ROM?
anyone knows the keys to press for restore an image from sd card ?
I have tried all combinatiosn of keys, but nothing are working
regards
sorry , it is hold camera and voice comm button while resetting.
previes state must be on!!
grtx arnold
Thanks for that. I just realised it says hold camera and voice comm rather than comms and voice comm, like you would normally do for a hard reset.
I've tried a boot with the correct buttons and could see nothing at all on the screen. I now realise there is something but without a backlight it is nigh on impossible to see. Anyway, I spotted that too late and started button mashing to try to get the thing to spring into life. It is now staring at me with a big clear white (lit) screen that dims briefly periodically. I now have no idea what is going on and whether this is the correct behaviour or not.
How long should the reflash take? Will having a 1GB card mean it takes 8 times as long as a 128MB card as it has to read the whole thing? How do I know if this is working OK?There are no progress bars or anything - just a plain white screen.
i did say comm and voice , but i just changed that
reflash was prety fast when i did it , within a minute i thought (256mb)
Oh dear :-( Mine's been blinking at me for 15 minutes now.
I just restarted the process and I managed to see a "Format BinFS Success" message and a progress bar at the bottom which I think said "Upload OS" or something like that - too difficult to read properly in today's miserable grey daylight. But I'm now staring at the plain white screen once more.
Maybe my ROM image is fried. Any ideas how to get hold of a clean T-Mobile UK MDA Vario ROM file?
EDIT : Further info......
Bored of the blank white screen I pressed the reset button on its own. The device reset and this time with the benefit of the backlight being on I could see the Format BinFS success message, a couple of checksum checks and something about downloading ROM and extended ROM. This all took only a minute or two, which seems positive. But then I saw a message about formatting FAT (or FAT32?) and while that was being displayed the screen faded/disolved to plain white and has resumed its periodic dimming.
Unfortunately I now have HTC Innovation and imate branding all over the thing so I can't just pop it back to T-Mobile to fix it. I wish they had a full ROM upgrade/replace image in a .exe, like qtek and imate.
hello,
what means "previes state must be on!! "
i have an 512 mb card and no chance to boot the sd. Has anyone

i only got in this mode when resetting with the buttons pressed when phone was on.
when i first shut it down and then reset it didn't work.

Having left the white screen for a couple of hours there is no sign of anything useful happening. I reset the device and now I am dumped directly to the bootloader screen - there seems to be no software on the device now.
So it appears I can only get this thing up and running again with the k-jam ROM (or presumably Qtek) by running the .exe ROM upgrade file. But for me my option to go back to native Vario software seems to have vanished forever. Maybe I'm just really unlucky but this might serve as a warning/caution for others who want to flash their Vario.
Hey Guys....
I am still working on this DIY but this is how I was able to accomplish reverting back to my OEM Cingular 8125 state.
If someone could plase let me know how to replace the very first SPLASH Screen from "HTC" to CINGULAR, I would greatly appreciate it.
By following the steps below, you will have almost everything back to its original state.
Be sure to download all the necessary ROM files: OS ROM, Radio ROM, splash.bin
Place your OS ROM and Radio ROM inside the c:\sWizard\ROM folder.
DOWNGRADE YOUR OS AND RADIO ROM
1. Download aWizard 1.3b Beta Version (Attached File or Latest Version) from the following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37386&highlight=awizard
2. Unzip the folder to your root directory (C:\aWizard or D:\aWizard). You need to avoid having spaces your directory name. This is the reason placing folder in the root.
3. Make sure you have an active connection via Active Sync.
4. Run the aWizard.cmd file from C:\aWizard
5. Run "e" command FIRST !
6. Run "u" command. Your Wizard will reboot.
7. Run "w" command to update your ROM. You will get a prompt to choose your ROM. If you did not place a valid ROM inside the ROM folder, then you wont see it from this list. Also, if you placed your aWizard in other directory with spaces (i.e C:\ MY DOCUMENT) then you wont see it either. Just let it run. It will take close to 20 minutes. At the end, it will as you to hard reset.
8. Run "r" command to update your Radio ROM. Same as Step 7.
Replacing Splash Screen (Back to Cingular)
1. Place the splash.bin file inside the c:\aWizard\lib
2. Open up CMD and navigate to c:\aWizard\lib
3. Type in the following command "pdocwrite.exe -n 1 splash.bin 0x002d0000"
pdocwrite.exe = this program is located inside the LIB folder
splash.bin is a file that I converted.
4. Once completed, please reset your Wizard and now you will have Cingular's Splash (2nd Splash)
Updating the EXT ROM
1. I did this manually by utilizing Active Sync to copy over all the Cingular ROMs to the Wizard and running it individually.
2. Reset and you will now have all the programs Wizard came with.
FAQ
Q. My Wizard is stuck on a splash screen and it wont do anything.
1. Hard reset your Wizard
2. Hold onto Camera Button while turning on the Wizard and you will get the boot screen.
3. Plug in your USB Cable
4. Run one of the known ROM files with .exe extention. When this happened to me while downgrading,
I had to reload the latest iMate ROM.
5. Start the downgrade process again by following the above instruction.
reverting back to original cingular rom
Thank you for this.
Don't you have to REINSTALL original Cingular Rom or does this do that by removing imate updated ROM?

When you install Cingular ROM, it will remove/overwrite the existing iMate ROM.
Be sure to place your ROM files in the the ROM folder.
If your running the aku2 imate rom, many people will have problems running awizard or lokiwiz to unlock the CID, I had to run the tmo uk rom update (.exe one) which replaced the imate, and then restore the rom files I had backed up for cingular, although the extended rom is still locked, thats annoying.

can you please share how you change the very first splash screen on your 8125 ? its the only thing i wasnt able to do or know how to do.
thanks
FarSeide, I'm pretty sure that even the stock 8125's from Cingular showed the HTC screen first, the cingular screen second, and finally the Windows Mobile screen. If that's the case, then your 8125 is as good as new as far as Cingular is concerned.
Also, if anyone upgraded to the AKU2 I-mate ROM, you cannot do the process you described, because (as someone else mentioned) the lokiwiz program will not work. What you need to do is FIRST install a different ROM using an exe file (a good example would be the leaked AKU2 Q-Tek ROM exe file), and only after that entire upgrade process is completed, can you now use lokiwiz to unlock the SuperCID and install the Cingular ROM.

Eli,
thank you for the info. I wanted to put this together because when I tired to do this, there were information but scattered all over all forums. just wanted to help others so that they dont go through the same thing i did.
i was following these instructions and i got a
NOTIFICATION ERROR
cannot execute repllog.exe
so what i had to do was hard reset, boot screen , re-installed imate, ...
i guess i will try it again, what do you guys think
hmmm... sorry to say but my 8125 only ever showed the cingular splash. No HTC, no WinMob. I had assumed that Cingular somehow replaced all 3 splash screen with theirs.... In fact, I never even knew there was more than one splash screen until I upgraded to the Qtek rom.
I'm in trouble
I tried to downgrade the ROM and now I'm hung in the i-Mate SPLASH SCREEN. I tried the hard reset and it hangs every time. I can't get a connection through active sync obviously so what are my options. How can I get a working device.
I'm freaking out.
Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

relax... i was exactly where you were...
first, hard reset your device.
Hold the Com Manager, Voice Command and press the soft reset with your stylus.
before you turn the device back on, hold the camera button then turn on the power. you will receive the boot screen. Plug in your USB Cable and kick off the EXE file. Load one of the known ROMS like the iMate ROM.
reload and try again. I am willing to bet that you disconnected the USB Cable while updating to Cingular ROM.
Good luck and dont worry.
does anyone have the exe for the original Cingular ROM ?
my colleague tried to update his 8125 with my imate rom.....and did not unlock it first.
all he has is the bootloader now, the update gives the well known Error: Invalid Vender ID
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks !!
Get a copy of the proper ROM on a SD card, and reload it that way.
This is the easiest way out of that box......
Thanks,
but how to get the Rom reloaded from the SD card onto the device using the bootloader ?

THAT part is easy.
Note that the SD card image is NOT a file. You have to raw write it onto the card, which will destroy the filesystem - so back up the card first! psdwrite will do the job. You also need the image (PREVIOUSLY copied from a SD-made backup with "psdREAD")
To restore it, insert the card, hold the CAMERA button, and power on. The phone will tell you to press VOICE to restore the SD image (it looks to see if there's a valid one in there)
Note that with 1.x bootloaders this will happen with the BACKLIGHT OFF, and you only have 3 seconds or so to press the key - so have a flashlight handy. 2.x bootloaders turn the backlight ON.
Hit VOICE. The image will be verified (checksummed) and if it is good, it will be loaded.
That's it. Takes about 2-3 minutes. When it finishes it will tell you to press any key, and when you do you'll end up at the tricolor screen.
Power off and back on, and the phone will cold boot the new image.
This will work even if you can't run an RUU loader, so long as you can get that first prompt up. It is a VERY effective rescue method.
IMHO before you hack on the firmware in these things you should make an SD card backup just for this reason.
Which tools is best option for ROM backup to Mini SD?
Hi,
Just read your message about writing ROM to Mini SD card.
I'd like to do just that.
I want one or two ROM's for safekeeping stored somewhere instead only a backup or official copy on my pc.
As i've read restoring from SD is safer and faster..
I don't intend to use the SD card for anything more than just that.
In the Prodigy Service Manual (Prodigy Service Manual -XA(0813-2005).pdf) HTC uses mtty.exe. There are also instructions in the PDF.
Since HTC uses this, it should do exactly what i want, i guess?
Or is there a better tool?
Thanks,
Allegro.
P.S: Will a restored ROM from Mini-SD look fresh to HTC?
Or will they see it's a self restored copy instead of a official HTC restore?
Will it reset "everything"?
I was able to fully restore CIngular 8125 ROM, EXTROM, All Splash Images using the SD Restore.
100 Cingular OEM Spec has been restored...
I hv updated T Mo custom ROM..but now can't downgrade even by Awizard utils....can any one throw some light on this?
Hello,
Today my vibrator goes mad, so I decided to send my phone back (I still have the warranty).
In order to proceed, I have to put back the official SFR ROM, and luckily I found this link on the wiki : ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Trinity/SFR_S300+_ROM_French_1.23.163.2_Only_OS.rar
So I did a little backup of all my data, I take off the memory card, and I started the installation.
But at 9%, it bugs. Hopefully, the ROMUpdateUtility display a message that I have to put off and put in the USB cable, and retry the installation. Its seems that works, because the transfer was complete and the phone reboot automatically .
But when the phone reboot, it display the classical boot screen SFR Bonjour, show some numbers (M 05 - B 05 - D 1.23 - R 1.50.08.11 - G 32.83.7020.20h) and when this numbers disappear the phone freeze.
I've try to wait half an hour, but the SFR boot screen stay, and the phone didn't respond to anything (I've try to put the power cable, and the LED set on only if the phone is off). I have to put off the battery to turn off the phone.
If somebody could help me, please!
And excuse me if I made any mistake, english is not my native language.
I have the same issue......
I have the same issue, my SPVM700 just sits on the initial splash screen after I tried to re-flash it to the original Orange ROM [as I too had to return it for a warranty repair]. I used Mozzer's Orange ROM [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309959] to restore it - the procedure looked the same as with other ROMs I had successfully loaded but it was only when I tried to restore the official MNO ROM that my Trinity bricked.
I can access the bootloader screen [TRIN100 IPL-0.50, SPL-9.99CP] and can flash the device, where the progress bar always reaches 100% on the PC and the PDA and then the PDA automatically reboots, however, it does not advance past the splash screen.
I have tried the Hard-SPL fix [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299659 ] and then re-flashed the device with other ROMs that I had tried previously [Schaps, AX3L, HTC Official WM5 P3600 ROM etc..] but still get no joy - is there something that I should have done prior to re-loading the original ROM that I have missed and is my Trinity now forever a brick?
you've presumably tried a hard reset? but it's not written above so i thought i'd just check.. (pressing two soft reset buttons and pushing the stylus in the reset hole?)
Yes I did try a hard reset even though I didn't expect much from it as I had just replaced the ROM [effectively wiping the ROM and replacing it with a different ROM] and none seemed to boot. Once the device has started booting up, the only way to switch it off is to disconnect the battery [and the only way to switch it back on is to soft reset] so I am guessing there is a hardware issue caused by returning the device to the Original MNO build as this was the ROM upgrade that trashed the device - other ROMs tested prior to this had loaded successfully.
Sorry to bring this back but since the link is in Behemot's sig, it is not resolved yet. Have you guys loaded SSPL before flashing? If you haven't, the OEM Rom won't boot with HardSPL. Try flashing another custom Rom and use this method before flashing the Shipped Rom.
Good luck.
ask ilos for original SFR rom or search for extenue SFR rom. or contact me by personal message and give me your mail i have the SFR ROM without radio ROM (you can get the radio on this forum)...
Sorry, I've forget to update this thread...
So, for me the only solution was to bring back the device to an SFR store (it is still under warranty).
I believed they would reproach me that the RADIO was not the original one or something like that, but no. They didn't make any remark and send my device back with an official SFR ROM.
The only thing is that they take more than a month instead of the traditional two weeks to fix it.
So all is ok for me.
I hope you will solve your problem
After flashing the rom for WM 6.1 with error flashing, my P3600i bricked and could not load into window mobile, there is error 270 when installation the hard spl or any cooked rom. And check by the softawre mtty with command task 32, the cid level become FF, so I could not flash any rom because it is not supercid.
First, I need to clarify that, the P3600 not equal to P3600i, so the unbrick method of P3600 could not apply for the P3600i.
After reading many messages from forum xda, it is know that the P3600 could use the splxploit to unbrick the P3600, it is a easy way for P3600 to unbrick and then install other WM rom. However, because the rom size is different, the splxploit could not make the P3600i unbrick.
It is know that another method is using the mini SD card with fat 32 format, and Rename the .NBH file to TRINIMG.nbh and copy it to the root folder of your miniSD card, then go to the engineer mode for flashing, however, I think that this method is flashing like using the USB connect PC, and for the P3600, could find the official rom to solve the bricked problem.
Finally, I found the gold card solution from the page http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Elf_GoldCard
, this may be the solution to unbrick the P3600i, it is because it is making the ppc become a supercid, so you have the right to flash another rom, but this is still very complex for other models p3600i to try it.
For the conclusion, there is still not brilliant method to unbrick the P3600i except the senior member that have their professional method. Eg. Flashing the rom with other equipment directly. I think there is only two methods for me to unbrick the P3600i, but I still could not do it.
1. Flashing the official rom for your p3600i the level is "CID", only could install with the official rom. But I could not find any HTC official rom for for P3600i. You need to find the official rom that match with your P3600i, and then you could flash it in the engineer mode or mini SD card method.
2. To cheat the internal OS, making the "CID" level to "SUPERCID", like using the gold card method to unbrick and then install another rom, but this method is still very complicated for P3600i.
3. Wait.......
Futhermore, I have tried the SD card flashing method, format the SD card to fat 32 and tried to flash the p3600i with the official rom, which not same as the CID. The result is failed, so for the conclusion, the SD card flashing method same as flashing the rom from the computer, it is just using another method to flash only.
For the gold card method, I have tried to make the gold card which could jump over the CID check by the SD card, I am following the procedure of the ELF gold card, with the software of QMAT,however, when I generate the HTC gold card for my bricked device's key of trinity, the QMAT software auto shut down, so I could not generate the HTC gold card, I have tried to generate the HTC gold card for Elfin, that's is OK, but I could not use the sd card to boot my device to supercid. And finally, I could not success to flash the rom.
Finally, I have asked the HTC support to provide me the official rom because they haven't released it. They told me that the rom could not give me because this is the original rom and not the update rom, so could not give me, and suggest me send back to HTC for checking. So
I send back the p3600i to the HTC service center for checking and repair, because they have the official rom for my device CID: HTC__601, I think they just flash the device with the HTC official rom, then the device is unbricked. However, the result is very disappointed, they tell me that I need to replace the mainboard for the device to work again, because out of warranty, the price of change mainboard is very expensive (could buy another new model), I argued with them about why the fail of flashing rom, is software the problem, need to change the mainboard, they said this is the only solution to solve the problem, so I rejected their suggestion and got back my bricked P3600i.
I can only to wait for the soultion about how to unbrick the P3600i now.
Waitng the expert to
1. making splxploit for p3600i (because p3600i is 256 Mb rom)
2. the goldcard method, it is difficult to borrow the wm device from other because I dont know there is any risk for the wm
I don't know if I can help you but will try since this forum has helped me.
My P3600 is basically screwed. It's a walking zombie brick phone.
Why zombie? Because I bring it back from the dead everytime!
I dropped my phone quite badly twice in a day a few days back,
Next day I woke up... my pocket alarm had hung and I had to hard reset because a soft reset brought about the Tri-colored bootloader screen.
After that, everything was GONE... so I decided I might as well load a new up-to-date ROM. Was using Akeo's rom happily before that.
Did the usual SPL routine, new radio, new OS rom.
Installed new stuff...
But then phone would continually enter bootloader screen most of the time when I did a soft-reset. Except that it would have a terrible error message that only gave me the option of trying to restart without changes or basically reset everything to original settings (or something like that which meant everything is gone again). With the error message in place... nothing would work.
Could not reset into normal bootloader. (without the error message)
Windows mtty.exe method could not connect. (it would under normal bootloader)
Activesync was obviously disabledsync.
Flashed radio, spl and OS roms repeatedly using Des' SSPL and Olio's HardSPL 1.20 and 1.30 to no effect. It would always come back with that error on a random reset.
Then I read about the method of flashing with SD card. But this didn't solve my problem... it would come back still after a reset.
Mtty.exe from Windows XP to format nand and mark bad blocks etc.
Nothing found.
Finally, I almost gave up.
Then out of desperate measure.
I decided to leave a copy of a TRINIMG.nbh in the SDcard for GOOD!
It's basically an SPL image. Done with the NBHutil.
Used it to split out the HardSPL 1.30 spl.nb and merged it with the splash.nb and sub-splash.nb from my current OS rom.
Everytime I reset... there's still a chance it will enter bootloader mode with that horrible error message. But in such a situation... I now simply choose not to reset settings to default and instead simply pull out the battery.
Then plug it back in and power it on again. 80% of the time... it boots back into Windows mobile like normal on the first try! No loss of settings... nothing nasty. Back to normal! The other 20% of the time? I just pull out the battery and power it on more times! Till it works! Hasn't failed me yet in 5 days. Mind you, I was bricking it twice a day before this. That's progress!
I simply use SPL backup to make a full backup anyway whenever I install any new software etc, contacts etc.
Give it a shot.
I don't know why it worked for me...
Maybe I have bad sectors or something where the SPL is.
Whatever it is... the SDcard's TRINIMG.nbh works as my SPL now.
Think of it as a case of a bad bootup sequence on an old dos system needing a backup msdos bootdisk to do the trick!
Good luck!
Hard SPL 1.30 should be SuperCID and having that boot from SDcard may resolve your flashing issues. IF IT WORKS!
Thank you for your experience, I will try your method later!

I did not try another method because I have borrowed my P3600i for my friend to help me unbricked. And finally, he was done.
My friend tell me, he is trying the old official rom of P3600, he tells me that he dumps from his P3600, I dont know how he dumps and then he is using the hex editor to MODIFY (HEX EDIT) the ROM FOR THE P3600i. You could refer to this page for the modify method
"http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=399779". And finally could success to flash the rom.
I think for the P3600i user, you could try the official rom of P3600, of the same location, for modifying the rom size, and then try to flash the bricked p3600i.
Now I could install the hardspl and try another cooked rom again.
Thank the help of my friend.
Hi there guys, I'm also one of those X1 users who suffers from the flex-cable problem (when the x1 is slided open, the screen turns black). It's a hardware issue so I want to send it in.
Now I wanna know if anyone had trouble sending in his or her X1 with a custom firmware.
I can't advice on that as it would void your warranty
restore stock rom first, you can dl fom pavelx1 thread in rom dev stickies
then restore stock spl fom olinex thread (also in rom dev stickies)
cheers
I just was asking because it is clear that I have a hardware malfunction and it has got nothing to do with the software used.
And living in germany I am happy that our laws are a bit more consumerfriendly then elsewere...
I will probably get the latest offical german rom back on but that's about it!

Hi DK,
i sent my x1 back with a custom spl flashed to it, but not a custom rom. i got away with it they fixed the screen, the case and my volume button, i would have put forward the same argument as you though with it being a hardware fault. But ive read a few times people saying they can be really funny about the custom SPL or the ROM and void your warranty, if i was you id just flash the latest X1 offical rom stick it in a parcel and post it away to sony. but you do it at your own risk to be completely sure ur going to get the A* sony service, if avalible.. flash your spl and your rom. Peace out XDA'rz.
If i were you i'd just flash it becase you dont want them to get it and then charge you the postage of sending it back...
You can't get away with HardSPL anymore.

My baby just came back.
Not only did they fix the flexcable issue, as I asked they changed the battery cover and the whole chrome-like plastic (it had some cracks). Thank you SE:Service
One thing though - they also updated my SW!
How do I find out if it is still flashable (HardSPL still there)?
Just take a .nhb file and see if it will be accepted - using the SD card method?
Rom Version: 1.05.932.7
Rom Date: 03/24/09
simple: enter boot loader, if it says SPL-0.78.0000 you are on stock spl (I expect so), if it says SPL-0.72.OliNex you are still on h-spl
congratz to successful service btw
Yes it was stock spl again
I tried to HardSPL it on my W7Pro/64Bit machine - always ended in error 200 (no conncetion). Even not inside of XP Mode
But I also have a W7HomePre/32Bit machine here - it went a litte further, until the tri-color screen. But then I got a new errorcode 260.
Well I had to deactivate a windows function called "Microsoft.NetFramework3.5.1". Strange cause you need .Net to run the App but it worked.
@Windows7
Control Panel -> Programs (where you can delete your progs) -> Windowsfunction enable / disable -> uncheck "Microsoft.NetFramework3.5.1".
I translated the way from that german thread:
http://www.se-world.info/sony-ericsson-xperia-x1-xperia-x2/250606-hardspl-geht/
"Systemsteuerung -> Programme und Funktionen -> Windowsfunktionen ein- oder ausschalten."
Now let's see which rom I'll take
Any recom. for german roms? I want speed and will end up using SP Mobile Shell so no fancy **** plz
BTW - when I start the device the green WinMo6.1 screen really flickers, until I see the Todayscreen where everything is fine again...
What's up with thad?!?
congratz and interesting piece of information, thx
there are not many ger roms, have a look at rom dev section (x1owner, TAI_sw, Sorata4u, Xkan, norti,?) and try them until you've found your personal favorite
cheers
