Hi!
I just replaced the screen on a wizard because the old one got smashed.
Anyway, I connected it up, re-assembled everything, and turned it on. The screen stays solid white, and then goes dim once its presumably finished booting.
The weird thing is, I can still use the touch-screen because if I click at the top left, I can hear the menu drop down, and can select items from it!
Any ideas what I've done wrong, if anything?
Ive triple checked all the connections and it all seems okay!
Help!
Thanks
two suggestions, that might aid diagnosis, feel free to shoot them down in flames.
Have you connected the device using pocket pc controller or similar software application?
Have you tried hard reset?
Do keep us updated.

I had a simular problem replaceing my screen. I know you will say it looks right but it isnt. the ribbon cable that the lcd fits into isnt properly seated the tabs that stick out on the sides of the ribbon cable need to be fitted all the way up against the fitting the tabs on your arnt pushed in resultin in a volatge connection but no video.

My touchscreen won't allow any input. I tried hard reset, reflashing ROM and radio - nothing helps so far. Now it's stuck on the 'tap the screen to setup your device' on the initial setup screen. The buttons work, slide works, but touching the screen won't. Any ideas? I saw the posts about frozen screens, but I don't think this is it.

Maybe its a loose connection?
Uh - is there a way to tighten it??? ;-)
Any ideas? If the screen is hosed - any suggestions as to who could repair it?
Bump? How about difficulty in replacing the screen on these?

just did mine, it's not TOO bad.. just 4 screws and a lot of careful prying but it's definately doable. There is a how to somewhere on here. If I were you I'd try the tool that lets you skip the screen setup and see if your touch screen works otherwise... strange thing is when I try to align my screen right now it freezes my phone on the "align screen" screen... so hopefully that's what is happening to you and you dont need a new screen. so yeah look for the align screen skip and see if it works.
Thanks for the info - I'll look around for the skip alignment tool. I assume the screws were those outer four teeny tiny torx screws?
OK - Dude - how crazy is that... it just started working again. I just kept hitting around on the screen by forcing it to alignment and it's now working. What gives? I saw a post about magnetization screwing up alignment, but this is kind of crazy. It works if I push the screen part of the phone 'south' and then I can tap and get the alignment to complete. Loose connection somewhere, I'll check out those guides to figure out if the ribbon is tight or not.

glad to hear you've got it working and saved yourself a headache... you might want to try sliding it open and giving it a squeeze below the screen but above the buttons... that's where the screen attaches to the board... give it a try.
OK - more of a 'tard moment for me - the screen protector was jamming against the screen. I figured that out after I had the whole back off and pried open to look internally to see what was going on and then noticed the screen was working fine with the back off.... oh geeze, time for a stiff drink. Thanks for the suggestions - you guys are cheap therapy bahahahahhaaaa!!!
Look out for dust particles
Glad you found out what was wrong. I would like to add that in general, if a touch screen is unresponsive, examine the device for dust particles stuck between the plastic and the touchscreen. It will be understood as a tap by the touchscreen, thereby rendering your own tabs unrecognized. I've tried that 2 times now.
I had a similar problem with my touchscreen. Sometimes it doesn't recognize my touch with a finger or stylus. I have to keep pushing the same spot for it to register the touch.
Now I took a needle and cleaned the space between plastic and touchscreen. For now it seems that it helped. Lets see how it works for now on.
Thanks.
ha ha ha ha ha!!!!
at leats you admint the retardness
D'oh.. the problem stays. Do I have to open the whole machine, and clean it that way, or can the problem be in the software?
I think, that after a soft reset the screen works properly, but after a little while it overlooks some of my taps.
What SPL are you running? Are you experiencing the 'screen freezes'?
"XDA-Developers HTC Kaiser HardSPL CID Unlocker v1.0" says in the readme.txt file. Does 'screen freezes' mean that I can't do nothing with the screen, or what? What is the SPL's job in the PPC, I thought it was needed only for the OS flashing.
OK, now I know what you mean with screen freeze. It sure does freese. So the problem is not in the touchscreen, but in somewhere else? The whole phone freezes in time to time.
what spl are you running?
OK, I suppose that was a tip. Thanks for the tip. I upgraded my SPL from 1.0 Olipof to HardSPL 3.56.
Everything started going very smoothly for now. Lets see how it keeps being smooth after couple days of using.
Hello all.
So, long story as short as possible:
My Tilt got run over, LCD screen was busted but I could still make and receive calls by sliding it open, hitting the call button and using the keyboard to dial and 'enter' to connect.
I was also still able to connect to the phone via bluetooth from my mac, as well as syncing it on my PC partition.
Eventually, I think I hit too many random buttons and turned the phone off or something as I could no longer get it to dial out this way. I was always getting the flashing green and blue lights though.
After some research (and un-won auctions on eBay) I decided to see if popping in a new LCD screen would fix my situation.
I installed the new LCD last night, and the machine is almost back to living, however, I now have the current problems:
When the phone boots into 'normal' mode, the screen is display is very truncated. It doesn't display the full HTC updated today screen and won't respond to touch. It says 'no service' but wi-fi seems to connect. If I slide it open, the keyboard lights up but doesn't respond, neither do the front keys. Also, I get only a solid orange light in the upper left LED.
If I boot the phone into 'Safe Mode' it responds to touch, connects to the AT&T network, connects to Wi-Fi, etc. The front keys still do not do anything, and when I slide it open the keyboard does not light up or respond. Also, I get both the green light in the upper right and blue in the upper left.
Another thing, when I slide the phone open and closed there's a slight ripple in the middle of the phone like something is 'pressing' on it from the back.
Sorry for the novel. Any help is appreciated. I'm considering 'clearing storage' and returning it to factory settings or flashing the ROM. I've taken it apart and put it together like four times now, checking, double checking and triple checking connections.
Thanks!
Sounds like one of the headers isnt fully seated in the display region. IIRC there are two that I had to deal with with my 10min LCD swap routine
Yeah, I think you're basically describing symptoms of having put the phone back together wrong except that it's interesting it responds in this 'Safe Mode' and interesting that it would happen after four retries
It's probably going to need a hard reset then! You might want to check nothing has been bent, warped mountings/plastic could be the cause of the screen ripple issue.
Were there any active components on the touch film for the display? (Assuming you have replaced that too with the LCD, or that they're one whole unit) if that is the case, they may be different, newer revisions? Really grasping at straws there though; at the end of the day, the poor phone has been mauled by a wheel... best of luck!!
Thanks for the thoughts! I guess I could try and break it down again. As far as I could tell, everything looked like the phone in the disassembly directions; nothing appeared unduly bent or mangled.
"Sounds like one of the headers isnt fully seated in the display region."
I'll google it, but what 'headers' are we talking about? The small metal bits that seem to touch the upper outside edge of the LCD screen?
Would an improperly seated header cause the other symptoms? Unresponsive other buttons (keyboard, front keys) and connectivity issues with the network?
"Were there any active components on the touch film for the display?"
I got a new LCD and digitizer (is that what you mean by other active components?).
Thanks again!!

Any cable that attaches to the circuit boards, re-seat every one you can find. One faulty connection can cause a lot of problems. I have a similar problem with a button on my PSP but im to lazy to fix it.
About a month ago I got my Kaiser screen replaced as it was broken, now all of a sudden the screen is all whitish and I can hardly ready whats on it!
Is the screen broken again??
I'm fixing to replace the screen in a Kaiser i bought used with a broken screen. From the reading i've done, it sounds like one of the cables to the screen is loose. Trying pressing on the middle of your keyboard and see if anything happens. The big ribbon cable has a connector there.
hmmmm coming to think of it when I pressed the middle of the screen it used to do some funny effect (like when you press your TFT monitor) but now nothing happens!
Is your screen something like this?

last night i was woken up by a text, i looked at my phone and all of a sudden the screen went crazy. Started scrolling up and down (like a bad signal/wrong format ntsc/pal on a tv). Everything got all messed up and lines and dashes all over, kinda like your screen, it started acting wierder when i began applying pressure on the top of the device by the earpiece and d-pad. So i soft-reset the device and it was still doing it while boot up, leading me to believe it wasn't a software issue.
So in my half awake state i just left it on my nightstand. I woke up and its perfectly fine now, even when i press all around the screen.. wierd huh?
I didn't notice anything like you descriped, touch screen and everything else worked like before. Only the colors were like on the picture. Tried hard reseting but didn't help. Phone is still under warranty so sent it to be repaired, i can post what they did when i get it back.
Thanks jrask. Thats exactly how it looks.
I think i have some bad news for you, the screen was damaged and needed to be replaced. I think it was cracked under the frame.
My tilt is acting very nasty lately. Over the past few weeks, I noticed that when I turned on the display, occasionally I would get something that looked like the static that you see on TV, but with colors. I would just turn off the screen, and turn it back on to clear it.
Now it's gotten worst! 98% of the time, it intermitantly gives me a blank solid white screen when I turn it on. Occasionally I can just turn to screen off, and on to reset it.
I'm running OEM WM6.1, and I've tried to reinstall the OS, but it didn't help. My phone has taken a beating, and the top corner has had a small crack in it over the past 2 months, but it didn't effect the touch screen, or picture. I also took off the cover to make sure the cables were all snug, and it didn't help.
Any suggestions?
Something got corrupted. If you search WIKI, it's call the 3 color screen stuck .. and you're better off posting at thread below. I hope someone can give you help (if you follow those steps and still no good)
As rule of thumb, do a lot of reading first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=423486
On a second thought, it might be the LCD itself broken ..
Oh, believe me.. I'm not one to turn to the forums without doing research myself! All the research I was coming up with seemed to point to a slightly different WSOD though. I think you are right about the screen being broken. I've reinstalled the software, and it acts up even when booting up!
Unfortunately, I'm not impressed with ANYTHING on the market to date! If I'm unable to fix this, I'll just go back to a RAZR until the next gen WM7 phones come out. (With a tilt screen of course!!)
Oh, and even though the screen goes white, it's not stuck, as it fully boots up; I can hear sounds, and even activate the touch screen.
Also, I forgot to mention.. the first problem I started experiencing was that my tilt would go back from landscape mode! It was like the video board was crapping out. I could even see a slight flicker in the display from the refresh rate.
hi i think you may need a new Need a new flex cable ribbon as i had the same problem once
Thanks Tayzaa, I think you could be on to something. I'll open it up and take another look!
Hi!
is this problem solved?
WSOD is bug of Hermes. I would know if kaiser have the same WSOD-bug with D-pad?
Hey guys I have a question. I recently changed the screen on my note 4 to a new non cracked one. Now I tried the screen with the s pen before I took the phone apart so I knew it worked. Well once I got the phone all back together the s pen on the new screen doesn't work anymore. What would control the s pen in the phone hardware wise that would make it stop working? I tried all the software troubleshooting ideas other than reloading the rom. Anybody have any ideas?
Probably the s pen ribbon cable not connected properly. I had the same issue when I personally repaired my n4. Realized it after the same issues u have and had to separate the lcd from the frame to easily connect both ribbon cables the same time.
Thanks. I'll check it out.
Did you manage to fix it? I have same problem. I got mine fixed at a phone repair shop. When I remove the s pen, the air command pops out but when I touch the screen, nothing happens.

Screen has brown copper screen behind it, if you break that your spen wont work, also spen connector is pain is behind to put it back if you open the screen from back not from front, make sure its fully in use flash light to see
