Hi,
I have an O2 XDA mini S.
Wanted to check if one can use this device as an Internet VoIP handset, using the USB port to connect with laptop/desktop.
Once connected to laptop/desktop use the broadband/dialup to connect to internet
I dont wish to use GRPS/EDGE for connecting to Internet (I know it is possible to use GPRS and use Skype/MSN etc...)....!!!!
Also wanted to check, if any one has used any mobile phone with Infrared/USB connectivity, to connect to the laptop and use the mobile phone as Internet VoIP handset. I dont wish to avoid use of multiple devices and also reduce my overall cost.
Skype Only
I have used Skype on the xda mini s and that works quite well on gprs or wifi but i never heard of using the xda as a voip phone/usb phone. i do not beleive that the usb can function that way. i have never heard of it being used as a usb device/phone, only used with Skype. You can download the Skype cab free from their website. Hope this helps. MD.
other VOIP phone
I have used SJ Phone on HTC Wizard(WM5) as VOIP phone via WiFi. You can create own profiles for any VOIP operators if they provide requested data (I tried Voipcheap & JustVoip). I never heard of any program using wizard/xda as usb phone. Rgds

I have seen many many threads on how to use bluetooth internet sharing to set up a connection on your PC using your phones GPRS/3G but is there an opposite way to do this so i can use my dsl at my office on my phone via a bluetooth connection to my work pc? i remember doing it on my SE phone a year back but i have yet to figure out how to do this on Windows Mobile 6.1
it has already been asked many times. but to make it easier on u, yes u can, when u have the machine connected via activesync
Hi there,
I got a car-pc since a while and have been using my sony ericsson with it... calls get transferred via bluetooth to the computer, as like phonebook in integrated into the car-pc software... all transmitted via bluetooth...
Now with the diamond, how do i set it up as a phone? winXP doesnt recognize other services than the moden funxtion
you should enable Remote SIM access on you Diamond: Start -settings - connections bluetooth SIM acces and also activate the service for your BT connection (do this in the first tab of the BT settings dialogue after connectig)
already done :-( But the Computer doesn't list other functions than modem for the HTC
Do i need any drivers for XP? Usually not...
Using Diamond & CarPC Via Internet sharing over BT
I have a CarPC in my car, it has a 7" touch screen & it is running WinXP and have built in Bluetooth. So for surfing in the internet , MSN, Skype in my car over the carpc i am using my HTC Diamond with the Internet Sharing icon and connecting it via Bluetooth to the carPC so i get FAST Internet over Bluetooth between my carpc and my HTC Diamond.
It works very good - very stable.
Matter of fact it is "capturing" my 3G Internet and pass it over Bluetooth to the carpc.
Solution works very well.
k, but i am not interested in using it as internet connection, i want to phone via the computers hardware, so the car-pc should act as an headset... besides that, he shoult be able to access the adress book and to begin calls... that for, i neeed 2 comports emulated, but how to create them?
could it be because the device is seen as a PDA, and not as a mobile phone?
I know somewhere here on XDA there is a reg hack for earlier devices to make them appear as a mobile phone to car kits. maybe the same thing will help here. I don't know where it is, can only suggest searching, unless anyone else can point you in the right direction....
I used to have PhoneConnector on my CarPC, with PhocoAdapter on the phone. It worked, but now this software is not supported anymore and unfortunately it does not work with WM6.
Freefone is not compatible either.
My good Blackbaron, I believe we users of CarPCs and Windows Mobile are scr...d!
By the way, sharing the 3G connection workds a treat, by USB, BT, Wifi... I just wish Vodafone would allow other ports than port 80
I still didnt realize what 3G is... ^^ I never owned a ppc before...
Well, on the CarPC the internet speed is as great as a DSL line, here is France I measured it at more than 3.5 MB/s (KS20 is limited to 4 MB/s with HSDPA, who knows why). Coming from the crappy Edge Motorola phone I had before, the browsing is truly amazingly fast!

1) Launch the Internet Sharing application on your phone (all WM6 phones have it)
2) Select your 3G connection, and BT or USB, tap "Connect"
3) USB: have ActiveSync installed on the PC, connect the USB cable, it's done.
4) BT: you have to set up a BT PAN hosted from your phone, add your PC to it, it's done.
5) If your provider uses a proxy, setup Firefox to use it (Tools/Options/Advanced/Network)
6) If your provider has a filter on User Agent, then you need the plug-in "User Agent Switcher", to put the same User Agent string as on your phone.
There you go!

Hello everyone.
I have recently purchased HTC Touch Pro in Vodafone my price plane includes unlimited data connection so I need to make best use of it right
What I want to do is to connect my HTC touch Pro to my laptop (through cable or bluetooth) so laptop will take data from my mobile phone.
Can you guys please let me know if this is possible.
Note: I know it is on Nokia N95 with Nokia software as I had one few months ago and it worked as charm
if your laptop is running windows all you need to have done is synced them once with activesync or windows mobile device manager...
then u should a program installed called internet connection sharing, just open it up, hit connect (make sure ur phone is already live on the internet), and hook up your usb cable to phone and that should work. there is an option for bluetooth too if your laptop has bt try it, mine doesnt so i dont know if thatll work
Works like a treat here. It's possible to do it trough bluetooth, but especially with HSDPA it drains you battery like hell, so i prefer to connect it with the usb cable, that way your TP charges while you are surfing.
OK I done it after few changes suggested on this forum.

PS. It still does not work on BT but who cares I got cable

1-Yes you can use a wifi dongle to share the interwebs with the x8.
2-Bluetooth is very slow and the cheap ones only have a few meters of coverage, you can buy a wifi pen for almost nothing and the setup is easier.
3-Adhoc is a direct connection between two devices of the same type (computers, phones, etc are clients, routers are access points). Connecting a phone to a computer uses an adhoc connection.
4- A dial up connection is an old way of connecting to the internet (there are several types of dial up) tru a phone line. The modem dials a number and establishes a very slow connection based on pulses. People like us don't use that anymore, only banks and such for secure "out of the web" data transfers..

Hi,
I searched to find a way to connect my Note to my laptop's internet, but couldn't find a way.
I have no wifi router and therefor I wonder if there is a way to surf internet in my Note by using laptop's internet connection.
Thanks for any suggestions
Connectify. Or reverse tethering (search for it in Android apps section).
Thank you
After trying so hard to get the first option to work on my PC i had to give up.
Tried second one and downloaded the trial from google play and I am now amaized how fast and good this is working. Now I have full internet access on my Note. As fast as my PC's. But you have to use the cable thou.
There's a new app called Opengarden. I haven't tried it, but it looks promising. It uses bluetooth, I think.
Not same
Opengarden is not supporting reverse tethering it is tethering. It means you can use Opengarden to use your mobile's internet on your pc, not your pc's internet on your mobile like reverse tethering. Two diffrent apps.
Just so i've the picture clear, are you using a 3G Dongle to connect to the net on your laptop.
Edit: Have you tried something like this yet? lifehacker.com/5369381/turn-your-windows-7-pc-into-a-wireless-hotspot

I am using a cable. It is student biulding and I connect the cable to my PC and the internet is there.
The problem is that the galaxy Note does NOT support AD Hock as I tried much and changed some system setings from /system/bin. If there was a solution for NOTE to support Ad Hock it would be amaizing.
