Could anybody tell me, why my new SD Card (Panasonic 2 GB Class 6) is much slower on my Alpine than my old SD Card (Panasonic 2 GB Class 2)? Here are the results from the SK Tools benchmark :
Class 2 Card: Read 6187 kb. Write 636 kb.
Class 6 Card: Read 729 kb. Write 481 kb.
Isn't it funny?
Perhaps I should format the SD Card properly?
Any ideas?
Thank you.
are cards empty when you check write speed?
class tells about writing speed on complitely empty cards
I tried both benchmarks, with the empty and the full card. The class 2 is much faster, especially in the write result. Unfortunally I formatted the new card on my device, with the effect that the card was become more slower. After that I formatted the card on my computer, now it's better, but nevertheless slower than the old one.
maybe it's something wrong with the card
the 2nd one is almost 10 times slower readed :/
did you check speeds on PC?
maybe PPC just can't handle with faster card

Well, that's my question. Where can I get the adequate information? How can I check the speeds?
use this
http://www.simplisoftware.com/Public/index.php?request=HdTach
Now I've found out that SD/SDHC Memory Card file systems formatted with generic operating system formatting software do not comply with the SD Memory Card specification. You need a special formatting program that complies with the SD Memory Card specification.
Because I have a Panasonic card, I took the Panasonic free SW (
link: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter.html).
The benchmark results are: Nearly 14000 KB/s (read), but still 470 KB/s (write) only.
No idea, how to increase the write performance.

1 GB Dane-elec Xs work fine on my Qtek 2020i(XDA2i)
you may format card before use
I have you tried any other card in your XDA IIi.
I have a DANE-ELEC 1 GB SD card and a INOV8 512 MB cards
and both work well.
Sorry I can't be of more help
Muzza
Kingston 2 GB (30651-001.A00LF p799861x01)work as well,
maybe i should have purchase a 4 GB
Scandisk 1GB SD card working fine!
transcend 2gb 150x absolutely fine work =))
maybe you have bad card? or maybe format it via cardreader can help..
My Kingston 2GB works great on the device, might be a case of a bad card for you, tried it on any other devices?
Worked
I use Kingston 1Gb SD card... 50x and it works fine... maybe your battery is dying
I think theres still a 4gb SD card at work which I'll give a go tomorrow if I get a chance.
I work at CeX in Brighton, England, and we get a lot of different types of memory cards in. So far I'm just using a standard SanDisk 512mb card, but will eventually get a 2 or 4gb (the 4gb we have is £120 >.<)
Kingston SD Card 1GB works fine on my XDA IIi. What brand do you use anyway?
XDA IIi definately supports up to 4gb (150x) cards.
I just got a "Topram' 4gb 150X...despite formatting both via card reader and my device it will not read...
Does it show the card size in the Memory cp? Or can you just not transfer files to and from it?
neither...as soon as I insert it into the 2i I am asked to format it to make the card ledgible...so I agree...but it still does not show up at all. Neither in memory size menu or file explorer.
I have formatted it via card reader on the compeuer too...It accepts files via card redaer so the card itself is ok.
But every single time I insert it into the PDA it asks me to format it again and it never shows up.
bit off topic but as anyone else had a problem with SD/MMC cards working for a while (sometimes as little as 6 months other times over a year) then totaly stopping ie show as not being there in any card reader, only to come back to life after about 12 months stuck in a draw. I have had this with 2 cards so far and got 1GB card in the draw at the moment which stopped working just as I put some important files onto it
SD Cards
I have a 4GB Transcend, 2GB SanDisk and a 512MB Unbranded and they all work perfectly fine in my xdaIIi, maybe your card reader is a bit iffy?
EDIT: By card reader I mean the bit that you insert the card into the xdaIIi
It may simply be certain makes of cards that work, and certain that dont. All you can do is hope the retailers let you try before you buy

XDA 2i - SDIO size - does anyone tried 4G?
Hi,
I want to buy 4G SD card to my XDA 2i, but I would appreciate if someone can tell me if he succeeded to work with 4G card.

erm... u made sure u formated them as FAT not FAT32? i had no end of probs with my 2020 when i did that, and the 1gb unbranded card i have in my 2020i is FAT and works fine, as most hand helds and camera (i use it in my konica/minolta SLR digital, it hates FAT32 file systems too) format them as that and jobs a good one!
Guys,
Got a pretty important question; Yes, I've searched. Don't flame the n00b
Using the N1 as a mass storage device, how fast is the transfer speed?
and
Does the speed/class of the SD card make a difference?
Cheers,
It is ass fast as memory stick. Yes, class of sd card makes all the difference.
I was kind of looking for speed in MB/sec
We all know memory can sticks vary from 1MB/sec to 20MB/sec
Fastest I've seen my transfer speeds are 5 MB/s
This very thing is a problem i am having with my N1. i have a 4gb class 6 card in it and when i mount the N1 to my PC i get transfer speeds of 500k to 1mb asec, but then when i plug the SD card into a USB reader i will get speeds up around 8mb asec. I have USB debugging enabled and it doesn't help. So right now transfer speeds to be blow big time. Not sure why it is doing this or whats wrong.
Any info on this? My phone tops out at around 3 megs. I hooked up a Moto Droid and it was moving stuff at 12 Megs a sec.
Experiencing same sluggishness w/ class 6 card.
I think transfer speeds from N1 to PC are independent of the SDcard when plugged in through the USB cable (unless it's like a class 2).
The actual cable and the N1 restrict speeds as long as you're acessing the SD via USB. You're getting differing speeds when putting it in an adapter because the adapter has different transfer speeds and doesn't need to go through the N1 to transfer.
You're going to be capped when transferring from N1 to pc via USB.
on average with the stock 4GB card when in the N1 I see around 1.5-3mb a sec... When I plug the card directly in a card reader I get 5-8mb a sec. It's much faster for me to turn the phone off, take out the card and stick it in a card reader if I'm transferring any more than a few hundred MB.
Just wanted to bump this, as I'm using an 8 gig card, and froyo 2.2 now. I'm getting consisten 3.5 MB - 4 MB, where as before I couldn't break 2 megs. Not sure what class the card is.
Thread update: I now have a Desire with 16gb Class2
7-8MB/sec Writing.
Reading is even quicker.
Transferring a 800mb file to N1 in mass storage (sandisk class 6 8gb) I got about 2.5mb/s using original htc data cable
Using a card reader i got 11mb/s

How is the card reader connected to the computer? Does it go into a USB port or is it a flash card reader built into a laptop?
Wow. 11MB/s is really fast - are you sure of that number? Sandisks are known generally overachievers, but Class 6 is only rated at 6MB/s write so if that number is right then - wow.

Those sound like the theoretical class 4 speeds.
I have a class 6 16GB card and even with froyo, I can't break the 2MBps rate (Running win7 x64).
Stock froyo/FRF50 or a custom rom based on it?
I just recently got my first Class 6 SDHC 8GB card expecting it to be a lot faster transferring than my stock Class 2 4GB. It's the same. But, when I put my class 6 into a card reader, it writes at 15mbps or higher. Sucks that we have to turn the phone off to remove the SD card.
Here are my test results (on the phone, not mass storage), hope this helps.
SD Card: 16GB RiData Class 6, from newegg.com
Application: J BenchMark 1.0 (market)
Test media: SD Card
Data Size: 10.0 MB
Buffer size: 8KB
Performance over 3 Runs.
Write performance (MB/s): 7.78, 9.29, 11.92
Read performance (MB/s): 12.33, 16.61, 17.39

does the class of the micro sd matter to the speed of the xperia? right now im using a class 2 and it seems kind of slow.

the speed classes [2,4,6] guarantee minimum transfer rates of at least [X]MB/sec
so the speed of X1 itself is not affected but your sd card (why should it, it's got it's own internal memory), but if you have lots of installations on it that the X1 regularly has to access it might have this effect of feeling slow
someone correct me if I'm wrong
my exp showed that the sd interface of win modile can't keep up with the speed of the fastest cards but sdreaders for pc's can
there are benchmark tools like pocketmechanics which let you test the card of the card in the winM device
Hi all,
I have a SDHC 8gb (Class 4). I tested its speed with J-benchmark. Frequent test shows that the write speed of this SD isn't any better than class 2 sd card i used before(4 gb).
I usually get write speed of 1.5mb/s and read speed of 2.5mb/s. Today I decided to change the buffer size to 8kb and got 4mb/s write speed. This is what a class 4 card should normally hit right?
So, I'd like to know if there's any way i can increase the buffer speed while transfering files from my PC. I'm really having a hard time copying movie files to my sd card. Files transfer of larger than 100mb take ages and even get disrupted at times.
Thanks for the help!!!

Random no-name brand? No surprise.. Lots of cheap, slow, unstable storage cards out there these days.
J-Benchmark isn't of much use if you don't know what the real workd transfer speed is, so you might want to try testing it against the computer... Send a large file, time it, see how long before you can safely remove the device.

well, it says transcend but i'm doubtful. Bought it at very cheap price from a wholesale market.
But there's something I've noticed, the transfer speed is slow through usb only...if i unmount the card and use it through a normal card reader its quite fast...I tried sending a 800mb movie file and it took just above 4 mins....
So, I don't think its the card that's the culprit. puzzled!!! could it be the rom i'm using or froyo itself?
I'm sorry that I can't be of any help, but i got the exact same problem. Bought a 16gb card, kingston brand, class4 (don't expect that much of it, but the stock was class 2, so i figured that it would be ok..)
I get horrible write speed, around 200-250 kb/s (or whatever it's called). Don't remember what the old one did, but it wasn't that bad.
I've plugged the card directly into the PC, and it gets much higher speeds..
Exactly the same problem, as u guys..
Come on, an hour to copy a movie to the phone, that's just not acceptable!
PS: have you tried this?
Mine was allready at 128, but it's probably worth a shot..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=921530
Hope anyone has some solutions to this, it's just seriously annoying
Oh, and i've got the desire with cm7 on it, it's not that different from the n1..
It's the phone not the cards. It just doesn't appear able to acheive transfer speeds higher than you'd get with a Class 2 SD card.
In the link i posted, there was a guy who found out a way around the limits of android on a EVO 4g device. I was hoping for a similar fix.. Or just something
Bought a Class 10 Kingmax and disappointed that write speeds are still maxing at 1.5 MBps Waste of money
2.5Mbps in recovery.
SOOOOOO SLOW copying videos over yaaawn.
Using a card reader means switching off the phone, which is not really an option IMHO.
You can benefit from the faster rated cards if you use a card reader, and even better if you buy a second card so that you can load up one while using the other. Quick swap, job done!
I have a Transcent 8GB class 6. I get speeds from 6mb/s-8mb/s.
I have a Kingston 8gb class 4 card. In my old HTC Hero I was getting reads of 20mb/s and wright up to 10mb/s. Now in my N1 it's much slower. Getting 8mb/s read and 3mb/s wright. I allready formatted but with no result.
What can be the problem?
Maybe buy another micro sd (class 6-10)? any recommendations?
Save your money. The N1 has slow transfer rates no matter what card you use. It seems to be an inherent flaw with the device.
It's because you have many transfer in back ground
No problem
I test my SD after wipe: read 100mg
But before that: read 6mg
Because I has 340 app on SD
