Got my new kaiser today. Used t-mobile with the £7.50 webnwalk package.
My problem is it doesn't seem to have any form of msn or messenger installed on it. It isn't under the start menu and isn't listed in 'Programs' either. The only thing I have relating to messaging is the start menu called 'Messages'
That just takes me to email setup or messaging with sms and such.
Do I have to install it? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys,
Jon

Firstly the £7.50 package does not allow IM software so not sure if they block it anyway...
But search these forums... it really doesn't take more than a couple of minutes to find the relevant cab file.
sorry, I have no idea what im looking for and what a cab is
Check the second stickied thread at the top of Kaiser forum. The windows live cab is in there.
<WHISPER>Don't tell T-Mobile but my £7.50 W&W plan doesnt block live messenger.</WHISPER>
ok, got the cab I need. I have no idea how to install it tho

Still searching for live or messenger or something like that would point you in the right direction
a simplistic view is that cabs are install files for mobile devices. either download direct on your vario iii or download on your pc and copy across using activesync / synccenter. then just use the file browser to get to it and run it. Voila messenger installed
All working. It also synced my email which it didnt seem to let me do via the normal "add an email account" option.
Thanks guys / gals

That always struck me as kinda weird. Considering IM traffic uses a LOT less bandwidth than web browsing does...

I downloaded the .exe file for Music ID by Shazaam/Cingular and it has a 3 say trial window. Does anyone know where you have to go to delete the registry files that prevent it from going through the 3 day trial window. Even if there is another way to do it, that will be good too. Thanks
paying for it?
this site is not the site to ask for hacks for trailware so dont
A little digging in various places on the phone and an amateur can figure it out.
No need to ask here.
all i can say is if you go to google.com and type in unlimited musicid. hit search. you will find what you are looking for. Ironically that "hack" was posted on this site and there is a thread for it. good luck

I slept through all 3 of the useless sounding alarms id set on my kaiser this morning and iv finally had enough. iv done a search for this and i know i need to convert the sound (song in this case) and put it in the windows directory. I have done this but when i go to the alarm, click on the little bell and scroll down to it, it wont let me select the song/sound i want. Each time i try to select it, it just changes to default and plays the 'ding'.
is there any way round this? (i dont want to pay for any alarm software)
thanks
edit:excuse the spelling in the title
A) What file format are you dropping in the \Windows directory?
B) How big is the file? Stock AT&T ROMs have size limits defined in the registry for ringtones and other sounds.
thanks for the response.
The file is a .wav file and it is around 38.1mb in size. Think that might be my problem, never realised the file was so big!

That is a little big . I would try cropping it down to 3MB or less and trying again.
Hi guys,
I had my kaiser for about a month but I've never tried to change ringer until now.
Of course I'd like to use an MP3 ringer, but I wasn't able to choose a file from the SD card... I had to copy the file to the ring directory on the phone memory.
I'm sure there is another way to do it, but how??
Ah, well, I've actually used the search button, but it comes out with hundreds of ROM posts and I got lost...
Thanks for helping.

Go to your mp3 file, press and hold a pop up menu will appear with" set as ringtone " as an option.
And your right, this has been covered 1000 times ...........well 1001

Ok I've tried this one too, but the file still get copied to the phone memory.
Anyway to make the phone read the file in the memory card?
Sorry for the 1001st question of the same kind man, but I really wasn't able to find anything.
Thank you for helping.

No there are certain files related to the day to day operation of the phone that would confuse the phone if they were missing, the ringtone is one of them.
You can store your ringtones on your card, but to use them they must be in the windows folder in your device memory.
By the way Welcome to the Forum. Read much and explore there is a lot to learn here.

Thank you. It's what I'm doing and so far I think this is one of the best forums I've EVER read.
i just got the tilt/kaiser also. i tried to copy the song into the windows directory of the phone and i also tried the "set as ringtone" option but it didn't work. any ideas?
\Storage Card\My Documents\My Ringtones\
And if you are running a stock AT&T ROM, then you also need to edit the registry.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds]
"FileSizeLimit"=0

Not quite sure what you specifically need. When you say you set up email for her, do you mean on her phone or on her home PC? If on her phone, what type of phone is it? The reason why I ask is because probably the easiest way that I know of would be for you to set up a Dropbox account and store the .bin file in the public folder. Once there, you can get the public URL for the file and send it to her in a text and once she follows the link, the .bin file should start downloading automatically. This way all she has to do is check her text messages. Kinda like this:
Don't Worry, Be Happy
shes got my old LG ke970 Shine....have set up and given instructions so she can keypress after keypress to collect the email attachment. works ok ..just lookin for something simpler...but i really suspect its impossible....she seems happy with all the keypresses, i think ill close this thread.....and leave her with the email collection setup....but thanks for reply
