Adding new allarm sounds - have searched - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I slept through all 3 of the useless sounding alarms id set on my kaiser this morning and iv finally had enough. iv done a search for this and i know i need to convert the sound (song in this case) and put it in the windows directory. I have done this but when i go to the alarm, click on the little bell and scroll down to it, it wont let me select the song/sound i want. Each time i try to select it, it just changes to default and plays the 'ding'.
is there any way round this? (i dont want to pay for any alarm software)
thanks
edit:excuse the spelling in the title

A) What file format are you dropping in the \Windows directory?
B) How big is the file? Stock AT&T ROMs have size limits defined in the registry for ringtones and other sounds.

thanks for the response.
The file is a .wav file and it is around 38.1mb in size. Think that might be my problem, never realised the file was so big!

That is a little big . I would try cropping it down to 3MB or less and trying again.

Keyboard Slide out Sounds....Change

Does anyone know where the sounds are for the slide out keyboard, when you slide it out there is sound EX. Piano, Wind Chimes etc. Where is the sounds located in the phone, Windows? Because it would nice to change it to what you want, or have your own sound and convert it to the sounds that would work when you slide out your keyboard. Anyone know where it is?

Got this from another thread a while back - was going to just link to it, but couldn't find it so I attached the file here.
I actually turned mine off in the end though.
thanks so much, i probably will turn mine off too, but if you can get like an mp3 song that you like and just get a clip or something or like record your own voice that would make it lot better, and where is it in the phone though? someone needs to tell me how to create cabs.
I haven't tried the cab changing the sliding sound is a bit of a process.I only just figured this out and i had some inspiration from a post on Modaco.
The opening and closing sounds are wav files stored in the \windows directory on the phone. There are three files total and the naming convention of the existing files are: 1.wav; 1_in.wav, 1_out.wav. 1_in is the sound of the slider closing while 1_out is the slider opening. I'm not sure if you have to keep this convention or not and you'll understand why in a second.
Using a registry editor navigate to: HKLM>software>HTC>SlidingSound. Here you'll find the keys for the existing slider sounds (0-2 on an ATT Tilt rom). Inside each key are three values: default, in and out. If you check the properties of each value you'll find the name of the sound and the filename for the in and out sounds.
All you have to do at this point is to copy the entries into a new key with values to match your filenames. I kept the numerical sequence (0,1,2, 3).
The more I think about it I don't think you need the 1.wav file at all just the in and out wav files but that's the info I got from the Modaco form topic about changing the slider tone for the VOX. I'll have to try and see what happens. Hope this helps.
Oh yea it does, even though i might not be able to do its great to understand or know something about it, thank you so much
OK, ive created the wav files ( default, in, out) created the new key and new string value but i dont know how to create the value data which is where i think after i get i can create a cab, but i dont know where the numbers and letters lead.
just download the attached, and the sounds will show up in the drop down. just like that.
Interesting...volume control is done through the main settings volume menu?
Hmm, I've installed that .cab posted above, but I can't find it anywhere...
I've don this a couple of times but never used a cab to get it done. using a registry edit (phm, etc...) is much easier. put the .wav file in the phone windows folder on your phone and then use the editor to write the paths. do a serch for a link to detailed steps.
thanks
thanks for the sound cab for the sliding open and closed it worked really well, just a shame the lightsabre opening clip isnt long enough, seems to stutter then nothing,as for closing it sounds perfect

Stupid question about ringers

Hi guys,
I had my kaiser for about a month but I've never tried to change ringer until now.
Of course I'd like to use an MP3 ringer, but I wasn't able to choose a file from the SD card... I had to copy the file to the ring directory on the phone memory.
I'm sure there is another way to do it, but how??
Ah, well, I've actually used the search button, but it comes out with hundreds of ROM posts and I got lost...
Thanks for helping.

No there are certain files related to the day to day operation of the phone that would confuse the phone if they were missing, the ringtone is one of them.
You can store your ringtones on your card, but to use them they must be in the windows folder in your device memory.
By the way Welcome to the Forum. Read much and explore there is a lot to learn here.

Thank you. It's what I'm doing and so far I think this is one of the best forums I've EVER read.
i just got the tilt/kaiser also. i tried to copy the song into the windows directory of the phone and i also tried the "set as ringtone" option but it didn't work. any ideas?
\Storage Card\My Documents\My Ringtones\
And if you are running a stock AT&T ROM, then you also need to edit the registry.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds]
"FileSizeLimit"=0

Could you zip up all the default XPERIA ringtones for me?

hey guys.
Just a simple request to those who you have the time to do so.
I recently installed Gtrab's W4X WM6.5 Cooked Rom but didn't realise it had a lot of the ringtones included with the xperia missing.
I've searched the forums and found the odd file containing ringtones taken from handsets but they are different tones.
Could you please copy and zip all the ringtones from the Windows folder from a default Xperia rom and upload it to the internet for me please
Cheers,
Hyped
I need them too. can somebody please post them?
Thank you
Press me softly....
Thank you for your help, however, unfortunately, these are not the ringtones I need.
I'm not sure where they're saved but there are some ringtones called like Alarm1, Alarm2, Alarm3 and such. And it's in this location I need the ringtones. I think they are scattered throughout the Windows folder admist the system files.
So, could you possible collect and zip these please

Change key click sound

hey guys, I really don't like the keyclick sound that is Default for the Captivate. I don't want to turn it off, I would like to find/use a replacement.
Can anyone tell me how to replace this sound file? Also were is a good place to find replacements?
I can tell you how, but not where to find a replacement.
1) Grab a terminal emulator or Root Explorer (I prefer Root Explorer myself for this one).
2) Navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
3) If I'm correct in assuming that you mean the keyclick sound from browsing around menus and such in the phone then the file you want is "Effect_Tick.ogg"
4) Copy it to your sd card, and then to your computer and edit/replace it as you see fit. Just make sure it's the same audio length as the old one. Save it as an .ogg file or it won't work on the phone.
5) When putting it back onto the phone, make sure you make a BACKUP of the old one. Just rename the one that's already there with a ".bak" at the end. Then paste in your editing file.
6) Reboot and test it out.
Hope that works. I made that up off the top of my head cause I'm not about to try it out myself cause I turned the sound off in the settings. But it should work as that's the usual method of replacing any file on the phone. Good luck, let me know how it works out for you.
You are the man!!! That worked fantastic! I wasn't actually looking for the Effect_Tick, it was the TW_Touch sound that I wanted to replace, I found it in the folder by listening to them and figuring out which one it was.
THank you again, at least I know how to change something next time if needed
Wow, thank both of you. Never thought of changing the sound, but that would be hilarious to have a pew or pow sound. Think ofbeing a kid with two army men. Thanks guys.

Glad I could help. Also, FWIW, TW_Touch.ogg and Effect_Tick.ogg are the same sound. The only difference is the name, which actually makes TW_Touch a few bytes bigger.

Still trying to find some good ones. I am currently using the SIP.ogg sound found in the same folder as the others. Its more of a soft click sound. I am still looking for a really nice replacement though, so if anyone of you find one please share, as I will do the same.
You know the keyboard isn't making a click sound with Cog Rom. I wonder if its turned off somewhere in the ROM because I have keyboard clicks turned on but hear nothing.
I like to have regular dial tone for the dial key pad. Know how to fix this?
They are regular. The sound the same as every other phone I've used.
What do you really mean?
I used to have iphone 4 and the tone for each dial keypad little different sound

I would try and get them for you, but I haven't the slightest clue on how to convert the .caf file the iPhone uses to .ogg for Android. But looking around, there are some cool mods for dial tones out there. I found this one and now I want to do it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J4RfiTi08Q

I FOUND A WAY!!!!
If anyone can provide with me a copy of the iPhones dial tone sounds, I can format them for our Captivates. Based off of what I'm seeing from my iTouch, the directory layout should be /System/Library/Audio/UISounds. I need all the files that start with dtmf. There should be 12 files in total.
Edit: I did the Daft Punk mod to my phone and it works great! I'm attaching the zip with the .ogg files inside and already renamed so you can just drop them on the phone. Remember to back up the original!

HA. Wrong. These are in iPhone format and not for our phones. My zipfile is for our phones.
I was just linking to the sounds you were looking for.
Anyhoo for some reason my keys don't make any sounds when i press them, any idea why? Would love to replace the stock sounds with the daft punk ones.
edit: n/m fixed that, now to load those daft punk sounds
Beat me to the answer, it's a seperate setting in the Sounds Menu. But now you know that yourself. I'm probably going to make a tutorial thread for this elsewhere in the forums in case anybody else is interested
The sounds seem to be mixed up, they don't match the keys in the video, seems like he rearranged them after posting that zip file. Trying to sort them now but its a pita since mpc barely plays them.
I know what you mean. I didn't bother trying to put them in the right order. It's just fun trying to play the song.
And smeltn, I'm writing up my tutorial on how to change the dial tone sounds and whatnot now and I'm giving you credit for the idea. Cause if not for you, I wouldn't have even bothered to do any of this.

Q 2 devs - Possible to change Samsungs built in click sound?

Is there any way to change the built in Samsung click sound? You know, the sound you here everytime you tap on a new applications, opens a new mail in gmail or what ever. I know that you can turn it off in the settings menu, but I want to change the sound to one of my own. Is it possible? And If that's the case, how do I do it? Is it as simple as locating the sound file in the Note, and replace it with my sound and name it exactly the same?
EDIT:
I think I found it. The system files are located in system/media/audio/ui
I'm about to back those files up, and replace them with mine. I know I have found the right files, cuz when i renamed the "lock.ogg" to "1lock.ogg", the sound went away.
Lets give it a shot!
EDIT 2: Success! Will be working on some nice modifications now.
Thats great!! Im actually planning to do this also... By the way, would it work if i woulf just change the filename extension to .ogg? Or should i use some software to convert from mp3 or wav to ogg to use on the phone?
