1. Your card reader may be broken,
2. Try to use Total Commander.

Hi
I have the same problem with card bigger that 2 Gb on my notebook. The problem is that the motherboard does not support that big card. Probably it is an old PC.
Check to write something on that card in a newer PC/notebook and you will see that it works fine.
Change your PC

Help Upgrading my Micro SDHC Card

I know there are other posts on this, but, I still need some concise advise.
I am replacing my 2GB card with an 8GB Card and I am struggling with how to backup and restore the data to the new card.
Newbie Steps taken so far:
1. Downloaded Memmaid to format the 8GB Card but it was already formatted to fat32. Free trial version so no lost money.
2. Attempted to get sprite software installed and it doesn't install properly (used the "free" HTC version that they sent as a remedy).
3. Downloaded the latest SPB Backup software and backed up the data on the storage card to the 2GB storage card and to my c drive on the PC.
4. Copied the backup file to the new 8GB card and tried to restore it but it doesn't seem to be restoring it to the 8GB card. I don't think the software will restore the file from the PC to the phone card. Stuck here.
Clarification: The SPB software seems to go through the motion of restoring all the files but they are not showing up on the 8GB Card.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Using backup programs to replace cards is toooo much hustle. I hope you own a card reader. Just copy all the files from your 2gb card to your computer using a card reader and then copy them back to your 8gb card. Simple as that
I don't understand your point...
You just bought a new microSD card and want to transfer the files from the old one to the new one?
If yes, there's no need to do backups and whatever... Just put the old card in your PC reader, copy everything to a folder, pur new card in the PC, copy everything from that folder and you're done.
The card isn't "linked" to the phone in any way - you can remove it and swap it with an other one at any time. No phone backup or whatever to do, removing the card doesn't affect what's on the phone itself (everything but the "Storage Card" folder)...
Thanks
I used the active sync explorer to copy all the files up to my PC off the 2GB and I noticed it said something about converting them and then I got an error about 1 file (index?) file so I started to assume you couldn't just copy it like that.
But, I will simply do what you both suggested and copy off the 2GB and paste to the 8GB card.
Thanks.
8GB Class 6 Card
By the way, New Egg sold me an Adata ,Class 6, 8GB card for $29.99 plus 3.95 eggsaver shipping.
Pretty good deal.
What about programs stored on the card

I have been wanting to do this same thing too, but I am wondering what needs to be done with the programs that are installed, and run from the card? Do they need to be removed, and re-installed?
As long as everything is in the same place on the new SD as it was on the old SD, all your programs will work
Some comments:
Some PC readers have a problem reading > 2GB
Copying LARGE files/data through active sync may fail
In case your card reader doesn't fail your fine if it fails to read do the follwing:
Download Softick Card Export II, trail is good for 15 days.
Install Card Export on the DEVICE
Start Card Export, your SD card will be a USB removable drive in Windows
Copy all files to a folder on your PC
Stop USB
Stop softick
Power down phone (!)
Remove SD
Insert new SD and power up phone (simply ignore warnings from programs which may have been installed there and don't panic if icons don't show up) SD should come up with the same name "Storage Card"
Start Softick
Copy files back
Done
Windows Backup is the way to do it.

Windows XP includes it's own backup utility which can do this easily and quickly (and keep a simple archived copy on your HDD in case the card/phone looses data - this has happened to me and others here), just put your memory card in its USB reader. There's no need to use third party software for simple stuff like this. I impagine Vista would also have a similar backup utility but I'm unfamiliar with that OS.

keep the card in your phone and connect to pc with usb cable in card reader mode.
Format card.
If still dont work you got a fake/pirate micro sd
How did you format it ?
On the official SD Association web site http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/ there is the following statement:
"SD or SDHC memory card file systems formatted with generic operating system formatting software do not comply with official SD memory card requirements and optimum performance may not be experienced."
The site also provide an SD card formatter program, fully compliant with SD Association specifications, but, unfortunately for you, it runs only on PC, so you need a card reader.
I had the same problem some time ago, with a 2GB full size SD formatted with my iPaq and recognized as 1GB, this tool fixed it.
If you connect your device to PC as a card reader, as stated above, it should work.
Go to Settings / Connections / USB to PC and choose Disk Drive. At least, my Xperia, and many HTC have this control panel.

If you don't find other solution, put the card in an adaptor and just copy them to the PC.
Have you by chance deleted a folder called external SD from your memory card, coz it formats your sd card. Try recovering files from sd card through connecting it via some other usb card reader.
there are programs, that can save the photos even if you format a disk or in this case a sd card...
let me find one for you,,,, don't know if it works...read in here...
http://www.easeus.com/resource/sd-card-format-recovery.htm.
of course there must be other programs better and free, I really don't know if this easeus is of any good...
never tried...
you must have a sd card reader in your pc of course...
thx guys
i tried to use other adapter and i find no change as i still can not found the sd card via pc.
i sure that i have not delete the file of external SD, it keep showing Blank SD on my 4x.
i am really frustrated about that...:crying:
Maybe sdcard got corrupted. Try formating the card from your phone if it gives you the option. I dont think this will be repeated.
sad..
in fact i dun care about do the sd card can function after all.
i just wonder can i get back my file:crying::crying:

may be your sd card has corrupted or it is fake, how long are you using it?
once i bought a fake 16gb card it worked good for few days and then the same situation as you are in. and i found no solution to recovery my files as it becomes strange, files are there but you can't use them anymore, can't delete them or copy them.
try using some partition manager after inserting your card into your pc and check if your card is there, and it's status.
if your card is fake, i have no solution,
if it's corrupted, it can be brought back to life by formatting or using other partition recovery tools i think.
i dun know whether it is fake or not, but i have used it for around half a year already.
i dun care whether it can come alive i just want to get back my data.
today i have send the sd card to a engineer, he said he fix it but it cost a large amount of money and i am not able to afford it.
and then he recover the sd card to the original situation.
it means that there must be a solution for it.
can anyone help:crying:
i had the same problem too. my 32GB went on and off after i dropped it from 1 meter high.
i used these two recover as much as my files as possible.

but still be prepared to not be able to recover anything at all.

Micro SD Card Data Recovery?

So.... I always backup my things, but my friend not so much and well all the sudden he was asking me why there where hardly any pictures in his gallery. Well the micro sd card was not being detected so I put another in and it reads it fine.
Also put the Micro SD Card into my PC nothing at all even under storage devices, it detects the adapter is plugged in but as if there was no card in the SD to micro sd adapter. Also placed it in several other phones nothing like its dead.
I`m not getting the error like people have where the card is detected but corrupted, This card reads not at all! If it was "courpted" I have data recovery software for that ive used for people in the past, but this card seems dead.
Anything I can do? It has a ton of family pics etc on it which cannot be got back. I know the data is most likely there as there has been no physical damage to the card or even the phone.
I have also tried cleaning the cards contacts.
Any suggestions? Its a 8GB Samsung Micro SD card.
Hello. I suggest Recuva ( https://www.piriform.com/recuva ). Run it with your PC and use Admin rights. Deep scan your sdcard. You maybe able to recover files then, if the files themselves are readable and not corrupted. I have had these file corruption problems with cheap ebay sdcards wich at the end appeared to be fake/counterfeits.
I also suggest to format sdcard exFAT and run h2testw ( http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/H2testw.shtml ) to sdcard with PC to see is your card faulty.
Sent from my GT-P5220 using XDA Free mobile app
You will need some specialist recovery software. We were recommended a program called ZAR. Other similar programs are available, but ZAR worked well for us and is free for this purpose.
Install ZAR, then insert the damaged SD card into your PC's card reader. Launch ZAR. (You may have to disable your PC's security software, in which case we recommend you also disable the internet connection).
When prompted, click the Image Recovery (Free) option. This will help you to recover photos from an SD card.
ZAR will now look for devices that are installed, and you need to point it to the offending SD card. Select the correct disk and click Next. ZAR will now analyze your SD card. This will take a few minutes.
Once this is complete you'll see a list of the recovered files. On most SD cards the chances are that clicking the 'Root' checkbox will select all the images. Click Next and you can then select the folder into which recovered files will be placed. By default, this will be the same as the folder you chose to save (so 'Root', in all likelihood).
One important point: you will be asked to select a destination folder for the recovered files. Make sure you choose one on your PC's hard disk and not back on to the corrupt SD card. The latter option will help you not one jot!
It will take a few minutes for the files to copy across. Once this is complete browse to the destination folder you selected. You should find most if not all of the files you wanted to rescue.
