Hi, I am a newby.
I have a Qtek 9100 device (it says model:WIZA200) with a chipflash: M-Systems G3 [so, as far as I understand (very little), I have a G3 device].
At boot it says:
IPL 1.03
SPL 1.06
GSM 1.04.10
OS 1.3.7.16
and in the info:
ROM vers.: 1.3.7.16 ITA
ROM Date: 10/24/05
Radio vers.: 01.04.10
Protocol vers.: 4.0.13.17
ExtROM vers.: 1.3.7.107
as you can see everything is pretty outdated.
I have read many of the sticky threads available here but still have a lot of confusion, especillay because I know very little about the hardware side of my device. Hence, let me ask the following questions:
1) I understand that the G3/G4 is related to the chipset. If you have G3, like me, you can't change, you have to stick to it. Right?
2) I understand that IPL/SPL, the bootloaders, allow you to upload only some updated versions of the ROMs, etc. Right?
3) What is this AKU2, AKU3, WM6 thing? I don't understand how these relates to the above....
4) How can I determine if my device is equipped with a T-Mobile, cingular, etc. thing?
What is the best updated configuration for an initial basic use + TOM TOM 5 software in your opinion? Where can I find the updated soft versions?
In this excellent forum and thread (many congratulations, really excellent) you still take so many things for granted for a newcomer like me that it is almost unavoidable for me to ask what might be judged to be silly questions - sorry for that.
Thanks to anyone answering (I hope not to be too much offtopic).

Greetings all. I am new here, but hopefully I will be able to contribute in some small way to the community. After reading about the wiki, ROM kitchen, and cooking, I have a few small questions that will help me jump into the waters and help out.
I have a new PDA2K on Cingular here in the U.S. that came with ROM 1.22.00 WWE Radio 1.06.00 and EXT ROM 1.22.162 WWE.
I would like to update to the most recent ROMs for the Radio, primary, and extended ROM and still retain the new version of KSE Truefax 2.09 and possibly other software that came as part of the package from I-mate.
When cooking a ROM: Is it possible to retain any of the software from your own ROM and aggregating it with the best radio ROM, make a unit that is truly updated in every way possible? If I took elements from the "i-mate_PDA2k_Arabic_13100_112_10600_SHIP" release that is on the FTP site and added the 1.08 or 1.10 radio ROM, would I have certain components that are in Arabic or is that concept misleading?
My point is: I think will I lose the software that came with the unit when I cook a ROM to update the unit and I would like to keep it as I paid for it in my purchase price and I would like to use components from other language ROMs but am concerned I will have components in my phone after the update that are in a language I cannot read.
Please guide me if you have a moment.

I had hoped that I had covered all of this is wiki, but it seems not.
your deivce has 3 parts
1) the os version and its language
2) the extneded rom
3) the radio
each of these can be updated one at a time or all together.
1) The os part is based on the windows version and its build, if you can find a versiont that works with our tools you can update that. In this case the 1.31 arabic in WWE is a good choice.
2) the Extneded rom is based around the applicatons that the porvider gives you as well as the provider customization. Here you can pick and what you want and the term that we use on this site is cooking.
You will need to flush your exteneded rom and cook a new one with what you feel you want (like applications) and you feel you need (as in porider customisation)
3) The radio is based on the type of device you have and in your case can be updated to 1.08.00 as we have yet to find a copy of the 1.10.00
So your issue of the fax software is solved in the cooking of the exteneded rom. allas the files have gone as some nice person has trashed 2 months of work and deleted them. however the 1.22 kitchen is again around so you can get what you need from there or from your device. copy them into your exteneded rom, edit the config.txt and perform a hard reset.
So to keep the stuff you have you need to save the cabs out of your extended rom, update the device (os and radio), flush the exteneded rom and cook your own rom (all covered in the kitchen).
You will do fine and if you have a problem just post it.
Answer
This is exactly the sort of definitive and succinct answer I needed. Your simple clarification has helped me and will no doubt help others. Thank you, again.

WHOAH!
Am I reading this correctly? So I can pretty much update to whatever ROM version and radio version I want, regardless of language? Anything I need to look out for in particular? I've got the upgrade bug now! Got my BT upgraded to 3900.
ROM 1.22.00 WWE
Radio 1.06.00
extROM 1.22.162 WWE.
How far can I go in an English version? Or does it matter so long as my windows version is English?
Thanks again!
Sam
Hi everybody.
First of all, thanks for this really nice forum.
I am a complete newbie in Pocket PC world. I am coming from Palm world. In fact, I was so much disapointed by palm that I decided to switch.
So, I have just purchased in London a second hand T-Mobile MDA III. I have unlock really easily with the program I found on this forum.
Now I want to upgrade the ROM because regarding the version of mine, it seems pretty old. Here is my version description :
ROM Version : 1.06.00 ENG
ROM date : 08/05/04
Radio Version : 1.00.00
Protocol Version : 1337.30
ExtROM version : 1.06.117 WWE
Model No. : PH20B
I have read a lot of information about this subject, but to be honest I am completly lost.
First I don't understand what is an extended rom ? I mean why there is two roms.
Secondly, what is the last version of the ROM I can use to upgrade my MDA III. I don't care that much about the T-Mobile configuration since I am using it in France. So anyway I will have to put another configuration for my carrier. So what ROM can I put and what is the process to do the upgrade. For the moment I don't want to upgrade to WM5 just new version of WM2003 SE. In fact, if at the same time I can get rid of the T-Mobile branding, it would be great, but it's my principal reason for upgrade.
Also, my last question is that sometimes after using my mda, it seems to run quite slow, specially display. Do you know what is the reason ? I am thinking it might be relating with the use of WM9.
Thanks a lot for your help guys.
Julien.
Hi
First of all: read all the wiki section for BA (BlueAngel)
It's quite well explained there.
Your roms are indeed old.
Go to the wiki section and download newest rom update.
( I think that I-mate's update has ROM 1.40.00WWE with Radio 1.12.00 and ExtROM 1.40.176WWE )
Upgrading is very simple, when you follow wiki.
ExtROM is a portion of ROM that contains installation files for provider-specific applications and some hotfices (CAB files). ExtROM can be edited by user (cooking) to personalize your device best.
At your point I suggest using extROM from this update.
Thanks a lot Robal.
I had to check some other post, because my current ROM was in ENG. So I use some trick to use WWE Rom.
But now it is working great.
Julien.
Hello,
I just recently picked myself up a T-Mobile MDA and am now feeling comfortable enough to flash my first ROM. I have read, searched, and printed may of topics on this site and a few others but I have a few questions I was hoping you guys could help me with.
First, What makes a AKU2 ROM different from a non-AKU2 ROM? And for that matter what makes the AKU3.2 ROM different?
Also, When it is said "this ROM is for SPL/IPL 2.xx G3 phones only" does this mean that it is for any SPL/IPL that does not have the trailing .0001 (thus making it a G4 phone) and it would work with a 1.xx G3 phone? Is there a change log somewhere?
Finally, once a phone is CID unlocked I gather that it is for the most part permanent? In other words if I were to upgrade to say a newer AKU2 ROM would that then forbid me from downgrading back to my original 1.8.10.2 WWE ROM? I have read that posts indicating that you would be able to downgrade to 1.03 and then upgrade, I just want to confirm that I am understanding this correctly.
I currently have some pretty old ROMs on this stock MDA:
IPL: 1.08
SPL: 1.08
RADIO: 01.09.10
ROM: 1.8.10.2 WWE
I am really excited to upgrade the ROM on this thing if for no other reason than to upgrade the Radio ROM! ROM 2.47 not withstanding, Radio ROM 2.25/6 included in most of the custom ROMs must be a huge improvement over 1.9.10.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Tom

AKU2 roms are push email enabled they also have stereo bluetooth support, now AKU3.2 roms have improved bluetooth drivers and lots of "other" improvements

Yes that is correct

Once again correct, its a "once in its lifetime" event

I have AKU2.6 and have push email but no bluetooth stereo.
Started a thread in Hacking and Development asking for help/why. No luck yet. I've tried every hack I could find.
So from what you are saying the support is in the AKU 2.6 ROM ,
but Samsung, Sprint or some other "confounded wingnut" decided not to take advantage of or /implement it !?!
BOY, DO I HOPE THEY RELEASE AN UPDATE!
Ratcom,
Thanks for the quick reply bro! Very helpful stuff.
A though of another question if you don't mind....
What the does SPL/IPL stand for and what do they each do? I know that they are bootloaders but why the need for two? Is one for the PDA ROM and one for the radio ROM? Kinda meaningless question but I was just curious. Thanks again.
At boot:
IPL: 2.26
SPL: 2.26
GSM: 2.25.11
OS: 2.26.10.2
Device Information > Version:
ROM version: 2.26.10.2 WWE
ROM date: 6/7/06
Radio bersion: 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version: 2.26.10.105
Are there any possible upgrades i can do? I've seen people post that they have like 3.xx SPL/IPL and 2.27.xx.xx Radio ROMs and stuff like that.. how and where can i get the latest of the latest? (This forum is too messy for me to find out anything like that om my own)
EDIT: I have no idea what "Kitchen" stands for.. and when I was gonna download WM6 there were 3 different Page Pools to choose from.. what difference does the page pools make and how do i know wich version i wanna use? Also, how do i know what page pool i currently have? none of this information can be found anywhere.. it's hard beeing a newbie!

STOP. Read the CID unlocking and upgrading G3 wizards thread. DO NOT attempt to do anything else until you have completely followed that thread. You already have a good IPL/SPL, you do not need to upgrade it. But you cannot upgrade your OS or Radio unless you are CID unlocked (or use the shell tool) There is plenty of information on how to proceed for you in just the Sticky posts alone.
Also you can use Google to search as well as advanced search in these forums. They may be messy but most of that comes from people that don't want to help themselves and ask the same questions over and over and over that have been answered too many times to count.
From what you have posted you look to have a solid and latest release from a carrier. Before you upgrade anything I would suggest you read the rom threads of the roms that you are interested in and see if they will give you anything that you need that you don't currently have. Once you are CID unlocked the sky is the limit.

yea i've tried google searching too.. but since i have no idea what differs the ROMs from eachother, i have no idea what to google for..
Hi all,
I'd like to start a thread concerning Radio GSM updating. (For Wizard G3)
Which Rom's are available and what are the experiences.
How to update and which tool to use to update.
The aim is to gether the information instead of fragmented in many threads.
(I spend many ours on this forum and found lots of info, but not so much about the Radio GSM ROM, furthermore when you use the search function you might end up in the wrong thread)
I hope all the cookers and engineers will post and many users will react with there experiences.
What's your radio. You should up radio Rom which attached in OS if your radio <2.2. It's safer.
Radio attached in OS
Ok,
that sounds interesting. I bought a used Wizard with a German WM5.
Off course I'd like a ducth OS WM6. So found a great one cooked by DRAVEN187!
I CID-unlocked (It wasn't SIM locked) it and flashed the ROM which was great. Then I was experiencing trouble with the Bluetooth of my new car (Citroen C4 GP) and decided to upgrade the IPL/ SPL and Radio.
I succeeded in upgrading the IPL and SPL but not in the Radio. So the IPL/SPL are 3.08 and the radio is 1.08.
My qeustion is: how can I determin if a OS has also a radio inside?
If i got it wright you mean first to upgrade with an OS with the Radio included < 2.2. Where Can I find this?
If this is done is it advisable to flash the dutch WM6 (again) and upgrade the Rom to a even higher version?
Does this higher radio version solve the communication problem with the car-bluetooth? (actually I don't think so...)
It seems more people experiencing trouble with WM 6 and car-bluetooth. Is there a cooker who can repair this?
Thanks for helping
There should be no ROM makers that will bundle Radio ROM to it.
And...there are standalone installers for Radio ROM only such as 2.71 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1808328).
Bluetooth problem is a OS problem, upgrading Radio ROM should not help (I have a i.Tech Clip S that doesn't work with any devices that uses WM6 ROM and Microsoft BT stack, no solution)
