Just got my t-mobile wing..many questions - Wing, P4350 Herald Upgrading

1. where can I get a screen protector film that fits the wing perfectly..I tried the generic ones, but everytime I try cutting it I'm off by a few mms, and it looks like crap..also what's the best way to put it on without having air bubbles and or hand prints?
2. Where can I get something like this?
http://4ustuff.com/info.php?itno=1763
3..I used to have a dash and I loved the BLUE WM5 default homescreen, I want a theme for my wing that is similar.

TyTN II or Cruise

I am very confused reading all the foroums, both Kaiser and Cruise.
I really dont know which one to buy.
My only concern for Kaiser is its weight and thickness. I dont mind the lack of FM radio on Kaiser. But the keyboard is it really handy.
On the other hand can you really type on cruise without the keyboard?
Is there any difference on the screen. I mean, is the Screen of the Cruise more touch sensitive? Is the Cruise more responsive to finger tapping?
Also, Is there any difference using them in direct sunlight?
Apart from the keyborad and FM radio are there any other significant differences? The Cube u can also have on Kaiser.
Please advise
Thanks
Well because of this site you can probably have teh cube on any device you want almost, so that shouldn't be a decision maker.
As for responsivness, this can be changed via software on the devices, (screen sensitivty, touchflo gesture delays, etc). Not device specific i dont believe.
Yes, the kaiser is a little thicker and heavier, but no matter what device i have, its going in the same pocket or hand, regardless of size.
My guess is that the screen material is the same for most devices, so i don't see that being a difference either.
AS for the cruise keyboard, i am assuming it will use the same keyboard the htc Touch has, the big button on screen keyboard. This you canalso get for the Kaiser, though right now it's having its problems with the xt9 functionality sometimes. I use PocketCM keyboard with an XL touch skin that makes it better for 1 thumb screen typing.
I don't think you should be worried about apps that come with either device.
As you said, the big differences are FM radio/hardware keyboard/weight. I guess it depends what you want more.
As for other hardware i don't know what the cruise has, maybe the same, but i do know the kaiser is full hardware buttons and dial for scrolling, etc. I love all the hard buttons as you have 4-5 ways of navigating your device depending on how you are holding it. on screen taping, cube navigation, left side buttons for navigation, front face plate buttons for navigating, stylus for navigating.
They hardware keyboard on tytn ii was really what sold me, and the tilting screen. i MUST have a hardware keyboard, and this one is huge.
thank you very much...was very helpful.

YOu can look at the kaiser upgrading section for Kaiser, or development and hacking. Just read as much as you can you will learn a lot and it ends up being very easy if you follow instructions. Also use the search function of hte forum.
People rip the cube application from Touch and make an installation file so you can install on whatever device. They even make apps so you can configure what buttons do what, what gestures (left to right, top to bottom, etc) do what. It's really quite amazing.
Another fellow made a cube clone out of Flash which was customizable. THe same fellow is now working on a new cube clone that is ridiculously fast compared to his flash cube and the original htc cube, where you can customize also.
Developers on this site are amazing and do a great job of getting us apps that other devices come with. New people like yourself, and me awhile ago, don't realize that just because the Touch has cube navigation, doesn't mean our kaiser can't have it. THe devices may look totaly different on the outside, but on the inside they are almost the same.

Today Widgets for Kaiser?

Ok so this is actually my first time posting in a long time. i do regularly flash the great roms on this site and use the cabs that are presented here. wonderful work guys.
ok so my question is, is it possible for someone to write some software for some widgets like the ones on the new Samsung I900? I know that it runs off WM 6.1 Pro. But is the today screen widget system a flash program? or built in somehow? it would be so cool to have something like that on the today screen of my 6.0 kaiser. ive seen so many different UIs its hard to name them all. they are all pretty cool in their own ways, but if someone made this as a cab that would be awsome. i know someone will be dumping the I900 rom sometime soon. hopefully!!!!
thanks,
vince
i dont get it, so nobody thinks this is possible? any takers....bueller...bueller...
Two suggestions...
Link to what you're asking about so someone can possibly make comparisons.
Don't be annoying/insulting.

riiight... i wasnt trying to be annoying or insulting. i figured a quick search on youtube wuold have informed anyone about the phone in question. seems simple enough to me.
well. the Omnia I900 is a new phone that is being put out by Samsung. If you watch the video posted above youll see the widgets that i am talking about. they seem to be flash based. sort of like the ones in vista. i wonder about how much memory they take up. the phone has some other cool things as well like the screen rotate transitions. i love the one from this device. hope some programmers here can chime in on this one.

Apart from the dragging and dropping of widget from the sidebar, everything else is able to be reproduced on wm6 using various methods. rlToday and MobileShell are starting points. The i900 is not that great of a phone.
I figured out the Widgets app is called TouchWiz. i was wondering if anyone has been able to make a cab out of this? i would probably use it if it were available. ive tried a lot of shells, launchers, plugins, they are all cool but none seem to be the end all OS-replacement. by that i mean that they cant do everything yet. some will do some things good and others do other things good, but none do everything good! i know its a lot to ask for from just a shell, but if the next iphone (not 3g version) is any good with a 3rd party following thats growing, i might jump on. its gonna take some great plugs and an awsome os update to keep me on the windows mobile wagon.
i really wish they would start to try and move away from teh stylus usage on their future OS versions. like the Omnia. this would make alot of people happier i think.

-Price - Currently over $1,100 in Australia vs. TyTnII free on most caps. Ouch.
- Poor finger menu navigation. Like most WM6 devices, the underlying OS is designed for stylus use, not thumbs. Comes with a stylus but no slot to put it in the phone.
- No physical keyboard, and dodgy software keyboard which cover 3/4 of the screen making it impossible to see what your typing underneath.
- Haptic touch is cool, but the glossy body is really bad (good?) at collecting fingerprint smudges. Carrying a cloth all day is pretty lame too.
- Battery life is ok, except when using GPS or 3G/HSDPA- reports of going from 100% to fully flat in under 40 mins while using satnav & about 3 hrs talk time on 3G. Cant personally verify this because I only played in-store for about half an hour - google around though..
- Can't use it as a bluetooth HSDPA modem for laptop/PC. Even my 5 yr old nokia can do this..
- Annoying automatic screen orientation, way too sensitive when you moving your arm around and the screen starts freaking out and spinning.
- Reports of random shut downs. Cnet reviewer had 2 in 3 days & pressing the Power On button does not help - have to physically remove and re-insert the battery to reset it.
- Useless "widgets" - Stock ROM does not include Calendar, Messaging or mainstream apps. Like the nazi-esque licensing for the iphone app store, you're not allowed to add / develop non-Samsung-approved apps. So for the time being you have a fancy looking but useless desktop. Standard WM6 "today" screen & various plugins is much much more usable.
Bottom line is its fashion over function. Some will love it, but there's too much iPhone mentality going on to even consider it for folks like me (I like to tweak and fiddle with everything to make a system that suits me perfectly - way better phones already out that can do this easier (TyTnII, imho) )
I do like the camera though, and the weird not-quite-VGA 240x400 resolution.
I agree. I am not interested in flashing a new ROM but would rather customize a few features usings cabs and so forth.
There are some widgets that I would like to use myself. This is very similar to the Vista sidebar that I have become familiar with and appreciate now.
Hi,
i found the related widgets, on rapidshare or megauload.it works fine
on a Qvga pda, but on mine (I780) i have resolution problems
Bye
Herc.
yeah i found a thread in the general-hacking and development section where someone has already made a cab for the widgets. after installing you have to reset your device for them to appear in the today plugins selection. the widgets are really cool but not being able to edit the apps they control at the moment kinda sucks. some of them dont do anything because they are supposed to be connected to programs in the Omnia I900

Manilla vs. Htc Home

This topic may be a bit premature seeing how manilla 2d is still in it's beta stages but...
I havn't tryed Manilla 2d yet but for everyone who has, what do you like/dislike about it? Would you prefer it over Htc Home? Why would you? I'm using Htc Home right now. Especially with the nice Htc Customizer.
I suggest you try it first, before creating a thread - it only takes 5 minutes..
and to answer your question I prefer Home.
Manila absolutely no question about it. Seriously, this is like asking if one prefers a bumper car or a real car. Just my .02 but i think you'll find most will choose manila.
over Manilla
I found this thread while looking for a non Manilla ROM after being annoyed by the screen rotation to not want to use it any more.
Looked cool initially...
it looks cool and stuff but i changed back from manilla to the htc home because manilla had to many bugs

Search for AthineOS. He made two roms, one for manilla and one for htc home. Rom is superfast. I also suggest Duttys_WM6[1].1_5.2.19700_Hybrid_V2 rom. Not so lite as AthineOS rom, it's a very good rom and always had decent battery life no matter what radio u used...
Back to topic..
This is exactly what i wanted. So far poll is 2-2. I think Manilla will outweigh HHome once all the bugs are tweaked and landscape = 100% other than the quick fix he has out right now. In any case, they are both really nice apps to have for our today screen and for the authors to have many donations going there way..
Home until the bugs are sorted although have recently fiddled with mobile shell and throttle launcher. I find I keep going back to home with ultimate launch.

Great analogy mate haha
I figured I would try Manila2D for a day and then go back to HTC Home when it first came out in a Rom but from the moment I first used it I fell in love with the feel and ease of use. You can navigate through all the menus using your finger or DPad as prefered whereas Home tended to be very fiddly and I was always using my stylus or the start menu to get where I wanted. Im using SJ's OPAL build 11th Oct now and I have absolutely no bugs and its extremely fast and responsive. In my experience most of the people who have experienced problems in the latest builds have been down to bad flashes. I always advise everyone to shut down all other programs and keep the Rom update program in the foreground when flashing and to take out the sim card to avoid all posibility of glitches occuring.
Manila wins hands down anyday.
I use neither, because:
1. Manilla vanilla, shmanilla. Sheesh, if I wanted a touchflo device I would buy a Touch Pro/HD or something like that. Every second thread in development and hacking is about manilla something or other. Enough already.
2. I HATE fingerprints, smears, etc on my screen.
3. HTC Home requires far too much Today real estate!
This is my setup:
PhoneAlarm Pro with B&W pure Skin (small footprint)
PDC (Pocket Digital Clock) with Alien Round fonts
Sun n Moon
Homescreen ++ (Ex Batterystatus) with Tray Icons activated.
SPB Traveller
TodayAgenda
And then I use S2U2 with an animated gif. That's it.
I use manilla. I love the customization of it. I love using my fingers to get to the things I use. I alos love the themes I can make. Home just never appealled to me at all. I was lucky enough not to have my phone bit for a week or two before M2d came out.
I use Manilla. It's attractive, responsive, and well laid-out. It's not perfect, though -- I find the built-in weather app pretty weak and I like Live Search better than Google Maps. But even with those complaints, I still prefer Manilla.
You forgot the "None" option. No matter how hard I try, I keep going mad at those "newfangled" interfaces - both of them - and end deactivating them after 1 hour.
Good'ole today plugins and Quickmenu rule.
MANILLA!
If I wanted things plain ole, I'd buy a flip phone or something. Manilla looks great, works great and I wouldn't have anything else.
The new ThrottleLauncher 0.9.5 Beta destroys Manilla. I cannot stand how hard it is to customize Manilla (not graphically), where ThrottleLauncher can be customized very easily. The lastest release is quite fast!

Yes you can always buy a new device with TouchFLO but roms are something free.
I have used Manila for a few weeks and, trust me, you won't have fingerprints on your screen unless your fingers are sweaty. You will always wipe away your fingerprints with touchs

I'm definitely keeping my eye on ThrottleLauncher. I like it a lot in concept, and customizability is great. But my experimenting with the 0.9.5 Beta didn't impress me much. It still felt a little sluggish and I just couldn't control it as accurately and quickly as manilla.
I need to try loading it onto a lighter ROM and doing a little customization.

Make sure you installed NetCF 3.5, and that apps are set to use it as defualt. I turned off all the transarency and went into the vars.xml and set my fps to 30 (because the editor is 20 max). It's smooth and quick.
PM me if you want the NetCF 3.5 standalone cab and NetCF config tool cab. I don't want to hijack this thread more than I already have.
why doesnt a chef put the new TL on a rom ...that would be so cool
I like having all my info available to me on one screen, especially the weather. I have my phone set up to use HTC home, Calendar++, and weatherbug. I don't have any ugly scrollbars on my screen, I have a clear view of messages, time, next appointments, and weather for the next three days, all without having to click through various screens. Plus, Manilla, HTC Weather, and pretty much any other built-in weather app I've used does not have weather info for my small town I live in, but weatherbug does, plus I get severe weather alerts and it's very customizable.
I hate Manila, it sucks to me! HTC Home allow you to have more things under control on the screen. HTC Home no doubts

WM 6.1 Theme

I was wondering if anyone here knew where to aquire a WM6.1 theme based on the show "24"? Or, could possibly teach me how to create this for myself? Basically i am trying to find a way to have the back ground all black and with yellow or gold numbers and letters. (I did try googling this but to no avail)
so a black background with "24" in the foreground? And making everything else gold/yellow/white?
well I went ahead and made one (kind've practice for me ) you might like it you might not but here it is the theme is in the ZIP and the picture is what it looks like
You can always " get with the program " so to speak. Upgrade to M2D and use this theme:
http://cay720325.deviantart.com/art/24-TV-Series-Theme-104743869
wow KaiserII01, thats great work, and FAST too!! Some has got to teach me how to do that!! I downloaded it and am putting it on my phone as soon as I get home!!
What exactly is M2D? Is it still the standard WM OS or a different type? I must be honest I really like the 6.1 UI (I am weird I know)
Its just a interface for HTC's Touch Device Series (except for the Touch Pro Diamond, Touch HD etc.) its pretty smooth and nice for getting to something quickly

Dialer Issue! HELP!

I honestly didn't know nobody made a dialer for the Diamond. So when I was flashing and spending the last 32 hours perfecting this phones build, thinking I would be able to find a nice dialer that is nicer than the stock HTC one, I was sadly mistaken. I didn't chose a dialer in BuildOS. so I'm on the old ugly dialer from the 70's... and everytime I install a dialer I find claiming vga, it is a small fraction of the screen...... Like not even half the screen, more like 1/3rd to 1/4th of the screen size in the top corner.
What can I do? I hand this phone to the customer at 4...
Hi,
What kind of dialer do you have : htc or WM or tachi ?
If you want a skin for htc dialer so try mines HERE
I didn't install one! So it ended up the old ass 70 year old windows mobile dialer. And every single skin I install, Except one of the beta test ones by PaulDeGroot, ends up tiny tiny up in the left hand corner of the screen. And the tiny buttons work to! The TouchFlo test one he did for VGA comes out as the right size, but still is trippy since the background is transparent and you can see the Titanium in the background. I need a way to upgrade the WM to the HTC Style... How can I do that?
ok I understand now : You have WM6.5 and the WM dialer right ?
Well It's possible to install the htc dialer but it's buggy with contacts manager under WM6.5. I suggest you to stay with WM6.1 for now if you prefer htc Dialer with larger keys.
BTW, the great DomSim made a cab to have htc dialer instead of WM, look here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=518810
Choose VGA ones for your diamond, he made cabs so it's easy to install and to uninstall.
regards
lol I'm sorry. WM6.1 blows! How is 6.5 buggy? I just said screw it and reflashed with the Stock HTC Diamond/Raph dailer. Fell asleep setting things back up since I haven't slept in a couple days workin on this damn thing for this lady... just cause she's cute! .
