Is it true that the onbaord GPS can self manage the GPS data to multiple apps( like the Trinity)?
Yes, that is correct.
Go to Settings, system tab, then External GPS , access tab,
then tick the option 'automatically manage GPS (recommended)'.
(It should be something like that, because I have a Dutch ROM, so this is an educated guess )

Do you know the actual port the GPS is on? I'm trying to get iGo to work and it just hangs when I do autoseek. Strange thing is that Google maps has no trouble finding and using the built in GPS-hardware. Unfortunately it won't tell me what these settings are.
ROM-versie 1.25.172.0 25-6-07
I used COM port nr 6. I didn't change the hardware-port and the baudrate settings.
However, the first time, it took me about half an hour to get a GPS fix. But once he made the first fix, the next ones were very fast. Since then, he has a fix within 20 seconds.
Could you tell me about the Google Maps application? What is it about? Could you eventualy share the files?

That's it, but beware of your mobile internet tarrifs, I think only with Dutch T-Mobile this falls under your 10 euro internet bundle.
I gave up on Igo, I just use TomTom now.
Did you notice that on long trips with bluetooth on the gps just plain disapears? like: no GPS-device present? doesn't happen with bluetooth switched off.
maybe it's just my ROM version, I'm having it flashed to release version later today (branded unfortunately: yuk!)

Now that the retail version is available, can anyone please confirm or try to feed 2 applications that would use the GPS data feed concurrently!
ie TomTom and GPSDash.
Thanks
Kaiser & Igo
I'm using iGo 2007 with the GPS settings left as standard. When I looked at these they were com 4 and 4800 baud. Memory map 5 uses the same settings and I've had no problems with either. I let WM6 manage the setting automatically as I have with all previous WM GPS Smartphones/PDAs.

I am using Windows Live with mine and the GPS port only seems to work on Com4, but like others, I leave the HW port and baud rate alone.
If you enable the QuickGPS it will help you lock onto a satellite quicker.

Well, maybe no one knows the answer...
I have google maps working just fine with gps. Though I can't help you much with your problem since I never had to do much work to get it right. My gps was just configured correctly in windows in settings -> connections -> gps (ie. other programs like tomtom can see my gps). The baudrate and com port for the gps needs to be set. Then as I started google maps I was able to select "track location" or something like that from the menu and it works.
Am having difficulties getting the GPS to work with Goole Maps and the product packaging here in Asia doesn't have TomTom.
I'm looking for a GPS testing tool to test whether I can get an initial lock onto a GPS (which I understand can take several minutes first time arond) and eventually then use Google Maps.
Google tells me there's a (freeware?) tool "GPS Viewer" by Holux / Maction but I can't seem to find a .cab file. Anybody can share a link to this or a similar tool, much appreciated.
Here is a tool for you. Setup COM4, 115200, NMEA
thanks for that ... I'm not able to set COM4, the drop down list for Port: has only "Serial_BTU COM7:"
does anyone know of a simple today plug-in that would display different gps info? like maybe lat/long, speed, direction, etc?
Isn't that going to kill battery... having GPS on all the time?

Of course it would... doesnt mean you have to have it active all the time though, i was just thinking of some instances where it would be cool to have that info but not loose all the other info on your today screen..

Hi Shogun
Seen some small apps that give basic data (no maps needed etc) but so far none that run as a plugin.

There is an app on use on WM5 called Navio that shows GPS data on a Today screen plugin. Do not know if will work on WM6. I hope to find out if AT&T would release the Tilt.
For using googlemaps, you must installing and using once tomtom. After, googlemaps is working fine.

I need to start tracking my movements because i just recently started a new hobby where i could easily get lost. If there is either some way to track my steps or mark my location every 5mins per say.
Any help would be appreciated thank you.
Note: i know googlemaps has TrackMe but I do not have a data plan, so i use TT6.
This feature is usually called "bread crumbing" and I do not believe that Tom Tom has it - I have hadd almost every version of TomTom including one not on my Tilt and I cannot find it there.Bill

I have used tomtom for years as well and never seen a feature like this.
ok i've searched trying to figure out how to run trackme with tomtom but it don't work
guess im just stuck without for now.
You can try WMMiniGPS11b_Installer which will track your path, and export it to KML to view on Google maps/earth or live search
Though this won't help you if you are lost I suppose...

I installed Track Me yesterday and had fun with it all day long. Please define "Doesn't work" and lets see what we cah do to help you. There is a HUGE thread on how to make this program work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340667
Now - At the very TOP of this thread it indicates a couple of programs that you have to have installed on your computer -
REQUIREMENTS
Devices running Windows Mobile 5 or 6 (no Windows Mobile for Smartphones)
Microsoft Compact Framework 3.5
SQL Server Mobile 3.5
and it gives you a download link. Mine did not work either until I downloaded those.
THEN install the program. It works a treat. The only problem I have had with it is if I tell it to connect every thirty minutes and check the box to disconnect after each connection - it does not seem to connect after that.

oh sorry, i did post in that link what my problem was after i started this thread. This thread was for the purpose for another program.
Anyhow my problem is after reading that thread and following different peoples advice i cannot get a fix with any gps program when i have trackme open.
PathAway 4 Professional has a feature to upload your coordinates in a few different ways, email, and I think even a web post method. I haven't looked at the features closely yet, but check it out.
I will be spending some time in Europe next month and would like to use some GPS navigation software on my Diamond while my phone connection remains blocked.
Now I know what you will say, "use the search!" I have. What im looking for is software not for a motorist but software for a pedestrian/tourist. I am looking for something that will contain top-down street maps akin to Google Maps, only not requiring a data connection.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah, I heard of this pedestrian mode in tomtom, but I cant find any screens of what the maps are like. I would prefer a 2D face down map if walking
In TomTom (at least since version 5) you can switch from 2D to 3D mode and back. In 2D mode you will get the top down view you are looking for like http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v467/jonchoo/961678b0.jpg
cool. Will give tomtom a whirl if there is a trial version out there.
Anyone tried Google Navigator? Ive seen a few screenshots online (looks pretty good) but I cannot find out much else about it

That is sad, cause while you are outside your country, roaming is very expensive, even few KB will be charged as 1st MB and etc...
Navigon is nice, cause working with offline connection, but NAVTEQ map's is terrible for my country, would like some GPS app like IGO which can use TELEATLAS maps...
Hi all!
The new 100% offline version of Nokia Drive is finally out!! :-D Anyone had luck finding it? Have been searching my @ss off but no luck... :-(
/Anders
not true... this is only (one month old) rumor but officially not released yet in marketplace
I think you are right :-( Found this article:
http://conversations.nokia.com/2012/03/01/new-maps-drive-and-transport-in-depth/
Oh well patience is the word I guess ;-) At least they are coming with an update! :-D
/Anders
Thanks for Nokia Drive navigation. I test it and it work like a charm
Nokia Drive use online data just to find the destination, once you set your destination it works offline. For destination set it takes just few kb, so it is ok for me, since i have 100Mb for free!
顶。。。。。。
does anyone know what i says ?
Works nicely. Thanks!
EDIT: tested it a little bit. Data connection is only needed when app is determining the route. Even to calculate alternative routes data connection isn't needed.
Maps seem up to date and complete, but Nokia Drive is kind of stubborn: on my way home, I have 2 highways to choose; as I didn't chose the one proposed by Nokia Drive, it was allways suggesting that I take the next exit to turn around. This happened until half the way until home...
New Nokia Drive 2.0.0 is out!
Hi,
The New Nokia Drive 2.0.0.0 - as it says in marketplace - is out.
Full offline navigation, no data conn needed for route planning as i read it on Nokia website.
http://conversations.nokia.com/2012/03/20/nokia-maps-drive-and-transport-updated-for-lumia/
Nokia MAps and Transport is also updated.
I think we all kindly asking a developer to fix it for HD2.
Thanks
it's already fixed by Chinese friends
