Has anyone used/tried similar devices to amplify the cell signal and get better reception? I want to buy one for my house and am curious before I make the purchase of anyone else's experience with these devices. Let me know if you've tried one and if it worked as advertised.
Thanks!
honestly, i wouldn't want to have such a thing in my house because of the radiation.
i do have wifi and dect phones though
I haven't purchased yet, but I've researched this a lot. The main competition to the Wi-Ex zBoost linked to in your post is Spotwave's z1900. A step up in price and complexity are the Wilson Electronics products. I'm not a T-Mobile customer so their HotSpot @Home product is not an option. Personally I'm holding out for femtocell, in which Google just invested but is still a bit down the road. Hope this helps and saves you some time in your research.

Thanks! I was also considering Spotwave's product but wanted to see about people's experience. I found out that a buddy has another buddy that lives in my area and has one of these. He's going to tell me the model, etc tomorrow. From what he tells me, his signal is worse than mine. At least in my house I get low signal. In his house he gets NONE but after installing this device, he gets full bars. Now that's impressive. I just didn't want to deal with returning equipment until I found the one that works....if someone else could recommend one that worked for them already. We'll see which he chose and hopefully I find out tomorrow. I want to order mine ASAP.
Wi-Ex zBoost works for me
I live way out in the country and got spotty reception - I could never finish a cell call. After I installed Wi-Ex zBoost I have 100% reception.
It has been a great success.

Thanks. I'm ordering it tonight and will report back once I've tested it.
Interesting topic - does anyone know of these products will work with UK / European frequencies? Over here we have 900/1800 Mhz for GSM and 2100 for 3G/UMTS service. I see that these products are set for 800/1900 Mhz - would that mean they reject (or ignore) everything other than the programmed frequency?

You can check the specs at the manufacturer website. It'll let you know which frequencies are supported.

Hello,
I have been really interested in buying this phone for quite a while now. But with it being Triband and not supporting any 3G in the US (which I only really use for internet sharing), I am still wondering if I should spend the money and get this phone or another one. My main question is, even without 3G support, I should still be able to get Voice and EDGE coverage correct? I currently have a Cavalier (S630) which I can use for Internet Sharing only if need be. I still cant see why its not Quadband =( and oh yes, I am on AT&T.
Any help on this topic would be great. Thanks =)
Man why waste 600+ dollars for half a phone. you have waited this long just wait for the us version. Trust me. You have no idea how slow edge is. I used to live in 3G/HSPDA terriroty and now i dont. I havent used my kaiser for web surfing in a while becasue its painfully slow. Save the dough

I know how slow EDGE is, it sucks lol. The thing is I know how HTC likes to delay their phones all the time, and I really haven't seen a solid release for the US. I have seen Q2, but since they delay their phones so much you can never tell.
Edge won't work in part's of America either. The Diamond that is out currently is tri-band GSM and doesn't have the 850 mhz which is what at least part of America works on. It's possible, depending on where you live, that even the edge won't work for you.
You really need to wait for the American version to come out.
See this link for the bands.

The specs on this site state that is has 850mhz band which is not correct. According to the detailed specs thread on the Diamond fourm it says the phone has a GSM band 1900. I went to www.gsmworld.com to look at the network for AT&T (1900mhz band only) and it covers the major cities and surrounding areas (almost exact same coverage map as 850mhz band) unless your in the friggin mountains.
Hello all-
I just got in my Diamond today and after working on it about an hour, I still can only get Edge (and very small reception and SSLLOOWW data). I currently have a tilt with a flashed ROM running 6.1 and got perfect 3G reception from it here at my desk. I use At&t here. Could the lack of the 850 band be my issue. Please give me some clues or point me to a tutorial to get everything set up to par for my Diamond. I've already searched this whole forum.
Thanks a lot!
Oh dear here we go again....if you had done a search you would have saved yourself so much hassle.
The Diamond you have wont support 3G on AT&T because its missing a £G attenna...even though your settings will show that it can support the band for AT&T 3G but in reality you CANNOT get 3G access with the Diamonds that are out at the moment.
Only way your going to be able to get 3G in America is by waiting for the proper American version of the phone...as to when its out...could be july/August.
Well...Thats the bad part of me that gets way too excited. I'm going to try to return it. I'm sure my fiance that im marrying in 3 weeks will love to hear the news of my lack of research. Thanks!
LOL its ok...its just been explained a few times on here that the Diamonds that are on the market arent really suitable for the American 3G market...your just gonna have to wait a bit for the American version.
For what i's worth - thanks for your time with a stupid question.

No problems buddy, its ok...thats what we are here for...to help each other out.
Apologies if i was a bit abrupt in my first post...been a long day
no 3g
for what it is worth, i have the same issue with no 3g but i have edge and so far find it fine for what i need it for. For others, the added speed that you get may be worth it. I love my Diamond otherwise, despite the battery. I will however get the usa version when it comes out, mainly for reception purposes since i feel the lack of 850 band lessens the reception a little... But so far I love it. Btw i have the ME rom which is fast and smooth and have no issues so far other than i cant hide the SIM contacts even with the tweak.
Hi guys and gals, we just got our hands on the unlocked GSM version of the Touch Diamond for the US, with US (err, AT&T) 3G. Here's my first look: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/phones/US-3G-HTC-Touch-Diamond.htm .
It has 850/1900MHz HSDPA, and is quad band GSM. Short summary: no front-facing camera, matte back and bigger battery.

Has anyone been able to confirm whether the DIAM100 has hardware that can support the US/AT&T 3G?
nice, thats awesome!
No, the US version is the DIAM110, the DIAM100 won't do US 3G.

Sigh.. A different version (DIAM110) really breaks my last hope. I am sure many of us were misled to purchase the non-US model; with chaotic origins from India, Europe, HK, etc, without knowing (1) the claimed 3G couldn't be ued in the US and (2) a US model would come as we are seeing now .. Or is it just my ignorance and mistake? .. Hope some lawers on this forum could help us trade our whatever Diamong with a US Diamond with 3G/DIAM110.. My first and last purchase with HTC for sure.

Unfortunately it was a known fact that the Diamonds sold prior to the actual US release were not intended for the US and the specifications clearly showed (htc.com) that it was not US 3G capable. Problem is there are so many bad resellers that will tell you anything to get you to buy from them. I also have noticed that a lot of the on-line resellers dont list the correct information for all phones however HTC is not at fault for that.
And at the original launch of the Diamond in London back in June, HTC did state that a US version would follow in a few months. We posted that in our news section at the time. Of course, given the often long lag before we see a US version, many folks were skeptical it would really come this soon.
I would love to be directed to any statement on the htc.com website that clearly told the visitors that the Touch Diamond doesn't have 3G in the US.. I have to confess that I noted LATER that the htc.com content is country dependent, but I haven't been promoted to go through all contries listed on their map before I knew that 3g in the US is a catch..
There is no FM
The article states two things I am not enjoying at the moment: there is no front-facing camera, and there is no FM.
Also, it says that a hack could bring the FM back... is it true?

But if you look at the specifications it doesnt list the US 3G Bands. You would have to know which bands are used in the US to catch this. The point here though is HTC has not marketed this in the US. I believe all of the retailers of the foreign HTC phones sell the phones without the blessing of HTC. The problem is there are a lot of suckers here in the US with no patience and make the resellers rich by paying exorbitant fees for phones that were not intended for the US market. I am included in the list of suckers.
"Network HSDPA/WCDMA: Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
Up to 384 kbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
Tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE: Europe/Asia: 900/1800/1900 MHz"
http://www.htc.com/europe/product.aspx?id=46646
That's from HTC's Euro site. No mention there of US bands, just Europe and Asia.
Their US site doesn't list the Touch Diamond at all, since they don't offer it here. Though I'm sure they'll update the site to add the Sprint Diamond, and thereafter the US 3G GSM version once they officially announce it.
I said a hack *might* re-enable FM. The good coders here can help with that more than I can, I'm sure. I'd like to get the FM cab from the Euro Diamond to see if that works.
GSen works just fine though . Happily rotating anywhere I please.

pdagal,
Good review. Is there any notable difference in performance between the unlocked GSM version and the Sprint version, or do they basically perform the same?
Thanks . There's more to follow. I'd say the Sprint version is still a little bit faster. The Sprint version has more obvious bugs though (call send button doesn't always bring up the dialer screen, landscape mode extends to apps it shouldn't support after launching a landscape app). I wouldn't complain about the landscape bug, but the device slows down when it goes into this "extended" landscape support mode.

pdagal - say you could have either one for your personal phone and you didnt mind going with Sprint or ATT. Which would you pick and why?
I'd like to play with them both a few days longer before issuing a verdict . Right now, I'd lean toward the Sprint model, though CDMA really isn't my thing (can't live without SIM swapping). The Sprint version is a bit faster, TeleNav (aka Sprint Navigation) is very good if you don't mind a monthly fee, and Sprint TV is moderately entertaining. But I'll try to remember to post back in a few more days after I've had time to torture them both more.

Thanks - Those are the two reasons I have been going back and forth in my head as to which way to go. The only two reasons I still keep thinking about Sprint is for the navigation software incorporated and having the Sprint TV service (although I do have a Slingbox). I used the TeleNav on a Instinct for a few days and found it very nice.

This is so bloody typical. You go out of you to buy a phone that is not sold in your country and then lawyer up to soothe over your ego.
Now youre going to blame the manufacturer and the shop owners for not treating you like the 6 year-old you seem to be and force them to eat the loss for your impatience.
If i was the judge sitting on this one i'd dismiss the case with costs to you.
I have a 110 on ATT in USA and find EDGE surprisingly useable. It is quite easy to use WIFI for large downloads. I can use for real time GPS maps (Google or Live). I was going to buy US version for 3G but don't think I need to.
The phone was sold IN the US through Amazon.com. No mention of it being Euro or no 3 G for US. I took a chance hoping a ROM would fix it but don't care now because it works so well.
Cheers.
In my particular case, the diam100 was advertised (by the importer) as 3G-enabled for my country. As it failed to comply, I'll return it and get a US when available. My DIAM100 is safe, packed and ready for a swap.
I am pretty much fed up with Verizon locking everything down and shipping phones later than everyone else. I am ready to make the move to T Mobile. I have a lot of people saying I am making a mistake in terms of coverage and that it is not even close. What has been your experience with T Mobile? Whats it like when travelling? The Note 4 is a great device and I really need it to be unlocked so I am looking for some feedback. I am in the San Francisco bay area and will be moving to Bend Oregon next June. Any real world feedback from people that have made the same move would be appreciated before I make the switch.
Thank you!
Jerry
I can't personally speak to your benefit since I don't live in your area, but in Southwest Michigan, Verizon is the king of carriers. I've had VZW for a few years and I made the switch to T-Mo last Thursday. Before you switch, take the test drive: http://explore.t-mobile.com/test-drive-free-trial
They send you an iPhone 5s that you can use for a week on their network for free. It's easy and pretty painless, with the exception that you have to use that phone.
As far as comparing to Verizon, it IS close, but Verizon IS better when it comes to pure coverage. It was a rarity for me to have no signal with Verizon, and it is so with T-Mo too, but the 3G on VZW was still usable, whereas with TMo, I can't get stuff done when I'm without good signal sometimes. It's a trade-off, though. TMo is MUCH cheaper, much less restricted, and the LTE is a hell of a lot faster (VZW I got about 8mbps down in my house, TMo gives me 40mbps). Verizon has much better coverage and low-band area, but that's really the only pro I have for them. Take the test drive and decide.
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. After having the Note 4 for a week there is no way I could use an iphone but thanks for the suggestion. I think I might take the chance since I have 14 days to get out if I need to. Thats the only thing holding me back because you guys already have roms and this device is too good to not have it fully unlocked. Thanks again I might soon be #teamtmobile
Try and get your hands on a used Tmo device to test out the network a bit. There are no contracts for the service, only if you buy a phone from them. Even then, that's only until the phone is paid off. If you bring your own phone, you can test as much as needed, and cancel if it doesn't work out for you.
You're probably going to have perfectly fine coverage in San Francisco, but Bend Oregon is the real question. Even if you could do the test drive alongside your Note 4, unless you are going to visit Bend within the trial time, you won't learn much.
Thanks guys. I just talked to my sister in Bend and she says that she has friends on T mobile and that if it was bad they would have changed carriers so Ill take that as a maybe. The map shows the 2nd best signal for my house in Bend so I might be ok. Im really leaning towards switching and have had the plan picked and devices in my cart but I want to make sure my return with Verizon is good to go tomorrow before I switch for good. Thanks for the feedback guys!

It would depend on the coverage in your area. I believe T-Mobile Customer Care can answer the question pretty accurately. Last time I checked they also had an interactive web map to show you the signal strengths in specific zip codes. I live in the Boston Area. I've had my best speedtest top out at 62mbps with an average of 30-50mpbs. It's unreal. Their customer care is bar none. I've been with them over about 10 years and I have only great things to say about them. Check your coverage and then make the switch. I've traveled to surrounding states and have had great coverage as well. You always find one town out of a few hundred where you don't get a signal. Kind of rare, IMO. Hope this helps.
Bayarea
Att to Tmobile. The signal outside is much stronger on Tmobile but inside buildings is a bar or 2 less. I think customer service is better than att as well. Overall, I'm pleased with the unlimited data( not the fake unlimited like att) and unlocked bootloader.
I'm on t-mobile in San Francisco.. Came over from Sprint and have no regrets. Used 25+gb this month already.
Tried in New York, more precisely near Time Square. Fast is the only word.
I live in rural Texas. As long as you don't leave the city you will have LTE/HSPA+. As soon as you leave the main city you will be knocked down to 2G/EDGE. Fine for texing or making calls, just no data.
I made the jump from Verizon about 12 days ago. So far so good. I have excellent coverage everywhere in the city(Indianapolis, IN) and the burbs. The only problem I have is coverage at my place of employment. I had 3g with Verizon a few bars in certain areas, but T-Mobile its zilch. This is only during lunch. I guess I need to find something better to do on my lunch than to play with my phone for an hour or so lol. Other than that i noticed my speeds are faster than Verizon. I love the freedom of the unlocked bootloader and unlimited data, that only is worth the jump for me.
Hey all,
I just got the 6gb version in today, but I cant connect to my network.
I was under the assumption that the Alpha would be supported by my carrier (Telus in Canada) but no go.
Now, I know the P25 can support the required bands , but is there a way to enable them? either by modding the radio/modem firmware or by software ?any help would be much appreciated.
Anyone? any help/ advice would be great.
Hi mistamikel!
Did you try the other sim slot? Had problems with Vodafone DE in the 1st slot.
If this isn't working you can check the available bands with MTK Engineering Mode

I’d like to find out if I could mod the radio firmware or nvram partitions to enable them.
Anyone have any advice or can help me out ?

You must be in a place where Rogers uses band 7 (lte) So at least you can use your device. Rogers runs on the old 2g for voice and text and in some places Band 7 (lte) which is why you're getting LTE.
I think all hope is lost as this place has become a shell of what it once was.,truly disappointing for long time members like myself.
You got that right this forum is going down hill. As for you phone speak to GearBest if you tell them you want a refund because the phone does not work in Canada they will offer you at least $40/$50 US back and you can keep the phone or sell it or just return it to GearBest for a full refund
I took the option for $50 and I got to keep the phone

Maze Alpha is a nice smartphone. Not going to use it as a daily driver because of the lack of case for it. Until I am able to customize a case for it I am going to always leave it at home.
Good to know you always have a way to get your money back. I have been looking at buying iPhone X(10) - not until the price has fallen down dramatically I am not going to dish out such huge amount for a phone with some facial recognition issue.
I am receiving 3G on a 4G LTE network.
