As above - Chl 5 8pm tonight
i doubt this will be usefull or give you the result you hope for.
I doubt they will even know, let alone try, about flashing and the massive advantages this gives. I doubt they will touch on the various 3rd party apps that really make this phone and instead, will focus on a standard "factory fit" which, lets face it, is a bit crap. Will they cover the fact that this phone is an exellent business tool (oh how i miss TV/VGA out ... )
I also doubt they will mention the Iphones failings, its 2.0 software disaster, its "push" (yeerrr right!) email or the fact people are having there entire contacts and calendars being wiped out in front of them or again that they STILL can't change batteries
I see them going for the Iphone.
Who knows, Germans have choosen Diamond as a best phone on the world with iPhone as a 2nd with quite big adventage. Who knows, maybe those people will make some big review and will compare those phones in every aspect.

What do you mean "Germans"? Do you mean the entire population voted on it or a selected "Gadget Show" like TV program?
http://www.inside-handy.de/news/12140.html
1500 of german inside-handy.de users choosen Diamond as most desirable phone of the year. I was wrong, not the best, but most desirable
The Gadget Show IMO is only of use to morons - the sort who go to Currys etc and believe the 'salesmen' when they say they need a £80 monster hdmi cable. They never set things up properly and i'll guarantee they haven't flashed the roms etc. I know you shouldn't really need to but thats my point, gadget show is for people who don't know nothing!

I watch the gadget show because some of it well put together and you can tell the producers/presenters do know what they are talking about even if they do have to dumb it down for a maintream tv audience somewhat.
As regards the flashing issue, I doubt they will go into it in detail but why should they? Most users don't know about it and if you did tell them they probably wouldnt want to be bothered with it anyway. Its a big time sink just for a setting up a mobile, which should really have been done by HTC in the first place.

Most of the people they ask dont even realise about all the 3rd party apps or different roms, all they seem interested in is the way it looks.

Thanks for the link, i hadn't realised before how crappy that show is, are they trying to be Top Gear or something! They're doing camera shots of the pavement that are so quick the phones blurred! And if the presenter emphasised his words anymore he'd explode.
In that video, that kind of test is always going to be about looks, if you even try to use the phone you wont know how because youve only had 5 seconds with it so all they can compare is looks, size, weight etc and go on what the presenters say.
Two things immediately spring to mind on watching the clip - Apple has spent a fortune on promoting the iphone, so that anyone who watches TV will have an idea how it works - if the touch screen from the Diamond had been given similar video tutorials on primetime TV, no doubt a lot of people would find the interface just as user friendly.
The other factor is the Apple effect - people feel that Apple has a brand value akin to Richard Branson's woolly jumpers - all cuddly and vaguely environmental/hippy chic. I prefer to be apart from the crowds, not queueing to buy on the basis of marketing hype.
Well I'm definitely sending my Diamond back. The one they had on the gadget show had a hardware keyboard and a Nokia label. Mine has neither.

The review was crap anyway, people like the look of the iphone, but thats it.
None of the functionality of the Diamond was really talked about, very poor review. (if you could even call it that !)

I disagree the Gadget Show is for people who don not know anything - I watch it over the internet and I find this a useful program indeed. But I do disagree with some of the shows findings on best products...

-The show looks cheesy as ****, something apple users tend to like!
-The 60 year old host, talking bout technology? Not good! (no harm intended to any 60 year old member in the forum)
And Ill always do this on any thread that contains the words FruityPhone:

Remeber, second best they are.
the show is usually quite good, but after watching this they did not give the htc a proper review. I mean come on if you put a iphone in front of everyone they know what it is straight away! Seems like the Apple advertising is really sucessful.
I dont mind if our Diamond isnt as big as iphone to be honest.
After all do you want everyone to have the same phone as you! I call it a small prestige club and I am honored to have be in it.

Did you watch the same show as me? I only saw the IPhone versus a Nokia....
I suppose you are right in a sense, they didn't give the HTC a proper review ... as they didnt have one!
I stopped watching the gadget show a few years ago because i get the feeling that they really dont know what they are talking about, the reveiws and tests that they do are completley stupid and of course they are given more money to say good things about certain products.
There was an episode i flicked onto the other month, and they had picked out a bunch of HD TV's an said they were gonna get the best experts in the country to give them a thouogh testing to see which one was the best! So they took them to the tech guys (pc worlds attempt at making ppl think that their getting good advice!) who stood about 2 foot away from the screens an said that none of them were particaully good and then said the most expencive one wa no good because it was a Plasma set and could suffer from screen burn!
In short the show is biased to whoever pays them the most money to give the best review!!!1!!!
Ok Maybe there was another post on this before...
And I also had a quick look through the forums to see if theres already an area devoted to the Dream...
But I got to ask,
What the hell was the designer thinking as he or she was scribbling down sketches and design concepts for this phone?
Hardware great,
Android great [though missing fancy GUI like Touchflow3d and uses stranded android desktop],
Fanatic designs and aesthetically pleasing to look at. Oops missed that one.
What the hell where they thinking? It looks like a cheap third world country knock off. A design thats a throw back to the 80s of cream white and ugly buttons.
After the Touch series [diamond pro HD and 3G and Pearls or is it Pebble...] How on earth did they manage to get this one out of the design room?
Hardware wise its fairly similar to the touch pro, so they could of easily gone along the lines of the Touch pro design with Android implementation.
Also why didnt they change the default front end of android with a nicer one?
The whole phone and its development smells of being total rushed without any real thinking at every step.
[except the basic fundamentals like hardware support and driver support under android, everything else though is out the window]
Now I’m sure HTC engineers and designers occasionally look around this forum to test the water so to speak. I only wish they would come forward and explain themselves with this monstrosity, It had the potential to be something truly great. But now seems as if it would be brushed under the carpet.
Maybe im just mindlessly ranting. If thats the case just ignore me

Should I go into the Blue Angel forum and start saying how I think it's an ugly piece of poop too, and what was HTC thinking? Seriously.. just your aesthetic opinion.. like everyone else.. let's not try and make it more then what it really is.
I think the dream looks nice. The white one is ok but the black one looks sexy. Also how is it rushed the phone has been in developement for over a year. That doesn't sound rushed to me. I for one can't wait for the phone and I'm going to get it the first day.
why dnt u make a phone yourself... since ur complaining about it.. or dnt even wrry bout it

Heh Heh You said poop.
Ok guys, lets not be so sensitive about his statement.
And lets not make careless offensive statements.
Let's have fun and talk about how pretty the Dream is. (or isn't)
For real...why is everyone jumping all over this guy for an opinion? It's not as if he posted in the wrong forum.
I don't think it's ugly, but hey I have been known to wear stripes with plaid on occasion.
Well, everyone is entitles to an opinion and although I agree it is importnant to be careful how you phrase things, you are always entitled to your opinion. I have many friends from Mexico and lived there myself for a while. They all say the same thing. It is not that great when it comes to looks but I can say that I have had many pretty things that were only so so when then came to performance. I do not look at the cosmetic side as much as I do the performance. I would use a brick if it gave me the best performance and reliability. I just hope they don't jack the price too much...
From time to time, I find myself looking around and wondering "Why did I do that?", "What am I going to do with THIS gadget", and "OMG! *drool*". Yes, I did say it. Now you can too!
I've taken the next few minutes to sit here and let you guys see how I let my inner geek out. This picture was taken in August of this year after I added another two devices to my list. As you can tell below, I've got a good collection going. I'm always looking to add more, but I'm a bit of a cheapskate.
Originally, the idea was for me to start developing ROMs for each of the devices I had. Using the wonderful kitchen tools I've found, including the multi-device support ones, I was so happy to start...and then stop. I found myself becoming uninterested in developing ROMs, but kept collecting. Of course, this has caused some financial heart ship, but you know what, it's still sweet.
So, I say to you, this is my inner geek, his name is Steve, and he's getting out...
Special note: For those of you wanting to help me add to my collection, I accept Donations.

It's out on-loan to my girlfriend. She's using it as her GPS (with a BT GPS, of course). It lets her get out an explore without making me sit there and say "Turn Right Ahead".. I think I may switch it over to one of the Uni's before much longer though. She keeps complaining about the screen size... *sighs*
Wow!!
That´s a huge collection!!
Lol
Cool collection You should open up the 1st PPC Museum
If we look dispassionately at all our devices, lots of them look pretty much like each other and they are really quite ugly indeed! No designer worth their salt would sign their names on any of them, including the iThingies in my opinion.
But we can love the ugly anyway. That is probably a consolation to most! Lol! We probably look past their skin and see through their windows into their souls.
Would this be a reflexion of our souls? Through the looking glass...
Impressive...

Second iPhone is a 3G 8GB. First is a 3GS 32GB. Mostly using the second iPhone as a dev device to test the stuff I try to create. Needless to say, it's not going well. I keep two devices on me, and active, at any given time. Right now, they're the iPhone 3GS and the AT&T Fuze/HTC Touch Pro. The Athena stays in the car ready for GPS Nav. The Kaiser sits in the bag I carry my netbook in as a backup (as I've just recently gotten backup batteries for my TP/Fuze). The Hermes goes for the ride in the bag sometimes, but stays at home sometimes too. Most of the others stay at home more than anywhere else...
I meant that here looks to be a reflection of a panda...Nice to hav backups of backups for your stuff...
By the way, your photoshopping skillz are fantastic!!! lol...
Hey guys, I would love to hear your opinions on my short film that i've made. This is my 2nd short film including my student short film from last year.
We spent about $300 for the whole short film, pre-production to completion. We didn't have much money to make the movie to begin with, so we went in and hoped for the best. The crew was very small too, but I guess we have to start somewhere
I encountered many problems, which you'd expect for such a low budget short film (especially actors), but I've learnt from those mistakes as I begin writing my next short film and hope for a much better output for the next one.
We got busted by the police for the traffic light scene with helicopters and all, but they were nice enough to let us go.

Well, firstly, you have a great camera-man! Those panning shots were smooth and I didn't see much if any shuddering etc. The focus is great, works especially well with the lights in the night, gives it some visual depth.
Music was soft and helpful for meaning in some scenes, and that keychain/locket was a good symbol for realising which car it was.
The actors weren't that bad in my opinion, way better than anything I could ever do Like others have said, it's more professional than I was expecting! The storyline was a bit confusing at times (or maybe it was me...) but I guess there's only so much you can fit into 16 minutes, so well done there.
Great job overall, keep up the good work! 'Liked' Maybe you should consider entering it somewhere, I'm not sure what's on in Sydney but it's worth a shot.

pur·ga·to·ry (pûrˈgə-tôrˌē, -tōrˌē)
noun pl. purgatories pur·ga·to·ries
A place or condition of suffering, expiation, or remorse: a purgatory of drug abuse.
purgatory; mental anguish or suffering
It's related to his past and the continued mental suffering he had every night. Especially the hallucinations caused by the pills he took to calm his anxiety attacks, which he didn't know were caused by the pills and was always stuck in this loop of events that haunted him, which is why the ending when Sandra's mother takes the pills from him, he is now able to deal with the past better because of the truth but also because the pills aren't there to bring back those hallucinations anymore to play with his mind again.

Haha, I would've loved to see that!!
The one other thing I have to mention about this movie was the fact that the main character didn't know how to drive a car properly, he was very very bad actually. 'Smoke and mirrors' made him look like a very good driver in the end.

We got busted by the cops because we had one car sit in the middle of the road high beaming the main characters car (when his face lights up as the other car speeds up towards him). This was around 11pm and the neighbours probably thought were doing something illegal like preparing for a drag race (we were beaming each other for 10 minutes) All of a sudden the ground illuminates and we look up and see a helicopter shining a light towards us, a minute later police arrive :\
The story was confusing at times but I made it so you essentially had to look back at even the subtle stuff he did, such as taking the pills then immediately after seeing the ghost car and girl to get a drift of the story.
To ease the confusion a bit for everyone, he was chasing himself. I left it open in one of the sections when Sandra reveals her name. In the story the character say's he doesn't know her however if the pills were causing only hallucinations, then how does he know he name. I left this part open for the audience to think for themselves. Did he know her name because of her death being mentioned at school but had completely forgotten about her until that night when he finally chases his own car and meets the girl or was she really a ghost who came down to tell him the truth about her actions.
The story was too complex for a short film but I think it was only after seeing so many simple linear short films that I wanted to take a different approach.
About entering it into festivals. I'm worried that the film isn't "good enough" yet to be shown at film festivals because of the small problems here and there. I'm trying to create a short film that really stands out at the film festivals and I personally don't believe this film is there yet.
Glad you liked it

Yeah I noticed that, but I couldn't do anything about it because by the time the other car turns left, it doesn't leave much room to fit in that shot and to give it the same kind of impact. I wanted to cut on the action of the main character turning left to the motion of the car but unfortunately the street lights caused a shadow. In the end, it was a very small problem that I couldn't to cut out because the content of the material was more important than the shadow appearing.

I thought the pills may have had something to do with it! But I was still tired when I was watching it, so it didn't click then But when you say it like that, it does fall into place, so maybe it's a better plot than I thought
And different approaches are always good

Believe it or not, that single traffic light scene was the hardest part of the whole film. We were running against the time especially having to deal with a public road and waiting for the road to clear on both sides for the other car to drive straight through... oh my goodness, what a nightmare hehe.

Thanks hehe, yeah the plot appears to jump here and there but hopefully if the viewers pay attention to the small stuff that happen, then maybe the bigger picture makes more sense.
Well, let us begin.....if you may pass around, the virgin's blood, the black candles and the tongue of a dead man whom killed himself.....Woopsy doopsy! Another forum...sorry, my bad.
;-)
I don't like to talk much about myself, least of all in an internet forum.
But fair is fair, and I am asked to introduce myself.
So I'll make an effort, without guaranteeing any results.
I'm in my middle forties.
I'm sitting on my bed while I write this.
Be right back: nature calls, and she's a batch.
Back, and I seem to weigh a little less now.
I feel light as Trump's head.
So, coming back to me, myself and I: I always loved computers, although I never quite understood them very much. Some claim that I know a lot about computers.....but this opinion is only shared by those who know absolutely nothing about them, and see them as entities which could eat them alive if they pressed the "wrong button". I know better: I have a limited knowledge regarding computers, but I do possess an endless curiosity, and I always seem to find somebody whom is kind enough as to give me her/his time to teach me, or help me out of deep shi-t when I, very rarely!, take a path that I know nothing about and "boldly go seeking where no one has sought before"......
As you already know by now, I love Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Thrillers and Terror; this in all medias: movies, series, graphic novels, comics, mangas, animations, books.....
I love to row, ski, practice volleyball and rugby, ride a bike and a horse, run, go rollerskating and ice skating, swimming and climbing.
I also write a lot, but nothing's been published so far. I happen to read way more than I write though.
I spent seven years in a wheelchair/using crutches, and now I am riding bikes again....it feels like the first time I rode one, when I was a child.
Let us simply say I come a long way to where, and when, I stand today.
I may not be of a lot of help to you, because my knowledge is really limited. Now. But, with your kind help, it will come a day when I will be able to give my helping hand to others in these matters as well as some others.
Looking forward to keep in touch with you all.
Live long and prosper, from Geneva, Switzerland.
(To your questions: YES, I love chocolate; YES, I love cheese; YES, I love watches and have half a dozen of them, several of which I repaired myself (and one I broke on my own too, for being an arrogant moron); YES, I love mountains: so, if you leave aside that I don't love banks, the swiss stereotype is fully fulfilled--well, I could love a bank if I owned one, but that not being the case.......)
PS: "Aexis" is not a typo error nor a choice because other names (Alexis, for instance) were already taken: it is my real name. And Tenax is my last name, after I chose to change the one I was sadly born with: for those of you whom don't know Latin, "Tenax" means "Tenacious" (as in "Tenacious D", the movies and the music). Modesty is not one of my defects, neither is arrogance.
Ah, my sense of humour is not shared by many: I am absolutely crazy about Monty Python, Chaplin, Buster Keaton, the Three Stooges, the animated original series of the Pink Panther (and I bought the entire DVD collection), Mr Bean, Not the Nine o'Clock News, Fry and Laurie, Red Dwarf and sooooooooooooooo many others. I even have a t-shirt that says: "I speak fluent sarcasm", to make things clearier for those with an impaired or atrophied sense of humour.
If you read until here, thanks for your time, and hope to "see" you soon!
Hi Tenacious Alexis!
Ahh, madness: the best way to make friends. Allow me to shamelessly pull this out of context:

It's been a pleasure to read your introduction. I have a T-shirt that has "I have six words for you" on it, what a blissful moment when they ask me what they are. Yes, T-shirts truly mark our sense of humour. Honest feedback: "it will come a day" may be the reason you haven't been published yet Great to read about your recovery, must've been quite the rocky road. Let's try not to circumvent the swear filters, it's a nice place here Oh and let's not make things political because there's no end to that and this place is all about our universal love for tech. Hey, I also have a Swiss watch, a MyKronoz ZeTime. Its quality is indeed quite remarkable! Anyway, I'll keep it short. Pleased to meet you.

Thanks for the warm welcome, and my apologies for "breaking the rules" regarding politics and"swearing". I was, as you realized, kind of testing the limits.....but I'll fall inline from now on.
Well, most of the time at least.
Ok, many times.
Alright, make it a few times.
Or two.
Or one.
;-)
Ok. I'll try my best (not) to misbehave.
You can quote me on that last line out of context as well......
Silly though, I'd have loved to know what your answer is to those asking naively "which are the six words you have for me?". I bet my soul that the censorship for the swearing would not let you write that answer here.....Nope, scratch that: I already sold my soul, so I can't bet on it anymore.....
;-)

Gotcha! Oh don't worry about it, you were merely bending them a bit. We appreciate some passion in the conversatios around here.
As for how I respond to that question: I just stare at them in silence for a bit, they usually figure it out. If they really don't get there I start tapping the words one by one.
