I tried to search this but the only thing I could find was a thread that walked you through the setup but when I tried it, nothing happened.
Here is what I got:
T-Mobile, T-zones workaround for Edge.
Can I tether my MDA to my laptop via USB cable to use Edge. If so, someone please walk me through it.
Thanks,
M3
I've been trying this too but wasn't very successful. I've tried setting up everything myself from my knowledge, but I guess that wasn't enough.
So I found a program called PDAnet. It is supposed to be an excellent program to do exactly what you're asking- connect GPRS phone to laptop to access internet. Well, I've tried this program but was not successful. For some reason I couldn't get it to work. But do give it a try yourself, it is supposed to be great.
If it works for you, maybe you can share your settings? thanks
I do this all the time, I hate the $9.95 1 day access fee when your in an airport maybe 2 hours if that.
First, ditch the USB cable and link via bluetooth. I only got my USB setup to work once and that after massive messing around. I'm assuming you have bluetooth on your lap top, I've a Dell so your set up may be somewhat different than mine.
First you want to make sure your BT radio is on, all I have to do is right click on the system tray icon and enable radio. Next bring up the BT settings manager and hit make a new connection. On the Com screen in the wizard make sure it's set to discoverable, there is a link under the settings menu bottom of the screen. If this is the first time you've paired the laptop to the Wizard then you'll need to enter the access code, in my case it is 0000 for both. On my laptop I need to go into the manual connection process otherwise it assumes I want to do a file transfer and not a modem connection. Set the connection to dial up modem, if it asks you for a number to dial it is *99# (Tmobile gprs). Thats pretty much it. The only hitch I've found is that I occasionally need to set the wizard to discoverable.
When I want to connect to the internet at admittedly slow GPRS speeds I bring up the BT manager and hit connect, it finds the Wizard, dials it into the GPRS and that's it, I'm tethered and have internet access. It's slow, kind of like a dsl line but for checking emails it's just fine. I used to have a Sierra Aircard which I could pop my SIM into and that worked great and was stable but the new laptop has an express card slot so the Aircard doesnt fit. If you have the older style port and Cingular or Tmobile you can pick these up cheap on ebay.

Which Windows are you at ? use winXP SP2,disable anti virus if any installed, also disable any firewall even windows own firewall.Disconnect phone from the usb cable and remove any sdcard if any.
Uninstall Active sync,Reboot Pc,open Windows Task Manager--->Processes Tab--->End wescomm.exe process.Reconnect phone via usb cable, get your phone into boot loader mode, check small usb appear a the bottom of bootloader screen and run the ruu...,hope it'll work out.
For Active sync connectivity, reinstall ,make sure no anti virus or firewall is running, connect phone with usb and let it synchronise.
Is your usb cable compatible, does it charge ?,if not,get a new usb cable. secondly, check if your mini usb port of your phone is working or it might be damaged.

Try this, on the 8125 run activesync, if you have partnerships there (IE. if the screed has "windows PC" on it), then go to "menu" on the lower right, then "Options" then select the "Windows PC" and delete it. Delete all partnerships that you have.
Then close activesync on the 8125 and go to "Start/setings/Connections/" and open your "connections". Do you have connections set-up? Make sure you have at least one connection set-up. Then close that and open your "USB to PC" is "Enable advanced network functionality" is the box checked? if it's not then check it (if it is then uncheck it), then connect your BSB cable and see if activesync on the PC will detect it.
If it does then set-up a new partnership.

Well I think you have a damaged mini usb port of your phone, for info read this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334440
I have been trying to resolve my AS Not Connected for a long time, over 1 year. I have tried all know recommendation/solutions to no avail.
Have read that FixASRunAT will fix the problem. Go to:
http://www.cs.pitt.edu/~jmisurda/ppc/FixASRunAt.zip
I downloaded it last night and will try reconnect tomorrow as I am out of town and cannot try AS now. iWill report back the results.
If this works for you, let us know. Wish you luck as I need it, too.

Although it is possible to perform all actions with BT,like you do with normal active sync connectivity via usb,but No,You cannot flash a new rom through BT,you got to have a physical connectivity established between phone and your pc via usb and usb is shown at the bottom of the bootloader screen.Even during active sync connection, while flashing active sync is automatically disabled by the RUU and the flashing is still carried out by usb only.
crap... so the only logical solution that has left me is to give ppc to sum1 who will desolder/resolder the miniUSB connection back again... but still, i dont get it, i opened few times and i dont see any wire in miniUSB connector loosen or bricked... everything is fixed and on its place...

That's it !!!
there might be a tiny contact of the mini usb port which needs to solder, these tiny contacts are not sometimes visible to the naked eye,it can only be verified by checking with 'Voltmeter' and this can only be done by a person who has some knowledge about electronics repair and soldering. If you can do it,get a Voltmeter and can check the connectivity of all the five tiny connectors, good luck
dont worry i got this ****ing problem too
bootloader mode works but.....
I CANT CHARGE or CONNECT ON ACTIVE SYNC
BS!!!!!!
Mine will charge No Prob with both PC/USB Cable and Standard charger,PC takes FOREVER,It recongnizes a Smart Phone on both XP and Windows 7 but then says Not Installed correctly,No Drivers, ect. It has to be a Hardware issue with the Port or something,In "Comm Manager" there is always a "Check" Mark through the Activesync Selection,no way to get it to "enable" on the Phone Screen....Phone is not worth enough to hassle fixing it,it works fine,I have to use another phone to put stuff on my storage card, can I load windows 6.5 and unlock with the SD Card method? Thanks,Vegas
I just installed BBC on my TyTN II and I called my service provider (t-mobile) to add the service, and they asked me for a pin #, I told them it was pending and they said I must have a pin #...
What do I have to do to get the pin #? it just keeps saying pending on my phone.
No one else is having pin pending problem?
Not sure if you tried a search, but many others have gotten BBC to work successfulyl with a TyTN II. The instructions on how they did it and what they followed are int those threads.
I tried searching and I couldn't find it, can you direct me to the link? Thanks
I think the problem is that I haven't connected it to my computer.. is it necessary to connect the device onto the computer? because I think my USB port on my phone is damaged and I am unable to connect it...
Is there any other way I can connect it to my computer without using USB?
Haven't lookd for all the threads. But you should be able to roughly follow the instructions listed here:
http://www.america.htc.com/connect/8925/
Even though you are using TMo vs. AT&T, it shouldn't matter. You get the PIN by using the BlackBerry Connect Desktop for Windows Mobile software on your desktop PC while you have your phone connected to the PC and your PC able to log into the mail service you want BB service for. (So yes you do need to have a working USB connection).

Is there any other way?
Hi, i have recently installed ms active sync 4.5. However my tytn ii will not establish a connection with my pc. It charges just fine but does not connect. I have searched all over but did not find a solution to my problem. i was wondering if it mightbe the cable i got with my device when i purchased it. it is a usb to "mini usb" like the motorolas and nokia 6300 use. Could this be my problem?
I doubt it's because of the cable (though could be). Try unchecking start>settings>connections>usb to pc.
I have the same problem, and have tried connecting with and without advanced network functionality.
activesync does not respond at all, even when trying to connect from activesync on my pc.
I have the same problem, charging o.k., but USB connecting not work
Before I had same problem. The reason was I have installed some 3rd party program what somehow blocked the sync.
I have un-installed this program but it couldn't help because the registry setting was modified by this software. So finally I ended up with a hard reset and reinstall everything. After that the sync just work fine again.
Sigh, i thought it might come to that.
hard reset 2x, no effect
flah rom from SD card, Duty V1 Daimond....no effect
flah rom from SD card, L26 V6 Daimond.... I have the same problem, charging ok, USB data connecting not work...
Well, hard reset complete to no effect. So frustrating!!!! I have been troubleshooting for ages and have nothing to show for it. Surely someone on this forum has solved this problen before.
Hi
I had the same problem following a rebuild of my laptop.
Problem traced to my firewall which had blocked the connection.
Once rule changed to allow no further problems.
Hi colinm, what did you do exactly? It may help me out of this situation.
Doesn't anyone know anything about this?
Yeah i had it get the latest update for active sync from windows its a latest driver pack goto teh windows home and look on there it sorted my one out
what version is it? i have 4.5 right now.
If you could provide a direct link that would be great.
I was trying in 2 different PC ( Vista, Win XP), but the same problem, cable is ok....
I would really like to know what the more experienced members think about this but no-one really seems to want to reply. also i would like to know is the usb data cable plug identical to the htc original handsfree plug which is an exact fit. as i mentioned before my data cable is more like a mini usb, like the motorolas use. it fits (not perfectly like the handsfree), charges but there is no recognition between the device and the pc (xpSP2 running activesync 4.5 which came with the device).
Please help, i may seem to be a noob but i have tried available advice and troubleshooting has become repetitive.
My Mobile Device Center from my Tilt to Windows Vista stopped working a few weeks ago. Tried everything to no avail.
there was one thing that i couldn't do while troubleshooting.
"Do the following:
Disconnect the device.
Open Network Connections in Control Panel on the PC.
Note If your Control Panel is set to Category View, open Network and Internet Connections, and then open Network Connections
Right-click the local area connection created by ActiveSync, and click Properties. In the Connect using box, Windows Mobile-based device is displayed.
In This connection uses the following items, select every check box (to select all protocols).
Reconnect the device."
i cannot see the network icon active sync has created. which leads me to believe that this might be the problem. does anyone know how to fix this?
will updating to SP3 do anything, gonna try will let you know.

thanks champ worked a treat. eventually.
My Sprint Touch Diamond no longer connects with a PC via USB. It charges via USB without problem, but it doesn't connect for Activsync or file transfer.
2 questions:
1. I don't currently have the Sprint device insurance, but if I added it at $7/month, then filed the warranty issue, think it would get replaced?
2. I can still access my 4GB internal storage via Bluetooth. I have flashed my ROMs many times via USB, and was able to use the bootloader to reflash it back to the stock ROM that I had saved on my internal storage, in hopes that would fix my USB connectivity issues (it didn't). Do I dare flash my ROM again with a new one that I just copied over via Bluetooth?
Thanks in advance!

I am not with Sprint so cant answer that...
As long as you are confident that the file transfered over fine then it should be ok. Maybe try transferring the file over via WiFi, I would feel more comfortable doing that. I don't see any reason why either of these ways wouldn't work, how ever I don't like taking any risk wile flashing the last thing I need is a $200 paper weight.
Sounds to me that your problems are originating from the PC end not the Device. The reason being is that the devices charges via usb. Yes the device could still charge if the usb on the device is no good but its a lot easier to make sure there is nothing wrong on the PC side then diagnosing the usb connector on the device,
Follow-up for others who may have the same issue:
I can't get the Sprint insurance. Have to add it within 30 days (I think) of buying the device, and I bought it over a year ago on eBay.
I'm sure it's not a PC issues, as I'm not up to 8 different PCs (XP, Vista, and 7) and none of them recognize it, but they all charge it. Weird...
Just bought another one on eBay, so I may play with flashing it via a Bluetooth-transferred ROM. Then again, I'm sure someone could use the unscratched glass or other components of it on eBay...maybe.

Did you try a different usb cord? How much are you looking to sell it for?
sync with diamond
I am also having a problem with active sync on a sprint diamond, flashed to cricket. I keep getting an error mes. "waiting for network" I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest activesync several times, and I have changed usb cables and ports. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Srry guys
