Hi all, new member here, just want to say what an awesome site !!
I am in Australia, and there are a few PDA2K's for sale here, but they are CDMA phones, i was wondering if they can be used ( with some mods ) on the standard gsm phone network ??
and if so what sort of mods would be req'd ???
thx in advance
Simply put, no. Converting a CDMA phone to GSM would require new radio chips, new antenna, new ROM... basically a new phone.
bugger, a shame that.
thx for the prompt reply

My sentiments exactly!
Don't really see the point of this thread.
Me too Indian 2G....
But truely an unneccesary thread...
The intention was to know atleast a least no of 2G consumers for my friend who is keen to buy Diamond , in place of other non windows mobile device he owns and is an active member in respective forum. He is keen in getting the device elsewhere ( which may lead to loss of support from HTC ) , while i am convincing him that there lots of indian 2G owners who had brought the same. I thought atleast i can show some statistics that there are atleast lots of diamond owners out here who owns the 2G and are actively members in XDA. But never expected such replys. . .
Hello i very seriously considering buying the diamond on an orange contract- However i intend to use the phone with my 02 CPW sim because it has unlimited web so the question is if i have this phone unlocked how much would it cost? and if i had it locked will i be able to use all the features inc email, internet sync with microsoft exchange as per usual?
thanks in anticipation

seach google for diamond sim unlock..... i think it $10(not sure)
and yes u can still use all the features!!!
Check the first sticky in the Diamond Rom Development thread, one of our experts has a proper site set up for it, cheap and 100% effective.
and just to confirm, yes, all features are usuable, it just releases the sim lock on the device to accept all operators.
Just to make it easy for you:

Thanks to Olipro for this
Thanks for your replies, very helpful. Just to be 100% clear then all i need to do is unlock and i can you use all the features with my 02 cpw sim without any changes to the phone. i was just thought that there may be software ect unique to orange that would need to be changed as well? thanks for your patience and sorry about my ignorance i just want to be sure before i buy
thanks
Hello friends,
Have just buy a HTC SPRINT HERO. I'm in India now. Can anybody guide me to use it with my local carrier. I want to use it with Reliance Telecom.
its easy .. in away ... i got mines on metro pcs... its called flashing.... u would have to get a esn # from there phones.... n place it on the hero ... then configure the settings..... u might not b able to get web or mms .... cdma workshop can help u but it costs....it might b hard ..... theyre company must use cdma tech. instead of sim card !!!
Check howard forums...... and post there ... ull get more help on there den here.... since there based on flashing ect..
I have moved his over to the appropiate section and copied and pasted my question.
I am new to this forum and apologize for my noobness in advance as i wasn't sure either to post this here or in the Android Software and Hacking General section and i appreciate any comments as i understand i am new here and have contributed nothing to this forum. Here is my dilemma, i recently purchased a t mobile g1 from a friend about two weeks ago because i was interested in the android OS. Being in the UK it is locked to the T-mobile network which my existing sim is orange. I understand that there was a developers ROM that was released (codenamed holiday (adp 1.1)) which allows other networks to be used on the g1 e.g orange etc as its a developer version. I was wondering what compatible ROMS for the g1 (htc dream) that would allow me to use my orange sim. Again i really do appreciate nay comments and help i receive and understand i have not contributed to this community and it is highly rude to ask for something when given nothing.
Changing the ROM on your device will not unlock it so that you can use it on any network. You need to get an unlock code for your device. T-Mobile US will give these out to their subscribers but I don't know about your carier. If they don't you can get it online too. They will need your phone's IMEI to generate the code. Just put in the new SIM and it will prompt you for the code regardless of the ROM you have.
isnt there such a thing as a hardware unlock though if i use a custom rom?. I brought this phone from a friend so i doubt phoning t-mobile will help get me a code.
p.s. cheers for taking the time to comment
No, I'm fairly sure the only way to unlock this device is what I posted above.
i thought you just needed a t-mob sim to login and then you were free to choose after this whole rooting/flashing thing.
its already a long time ago, so i might confuse a lot and its only that what i think to know. nothing sure..
i wanted an android phone and my friend was saying i culd get his off him and i thought that be a perfect time to get into the android os and stuff, i wasnt ure if i coulld by rooting/flashing that id be able to use another network thats why i wondered if i flashed it to a deveopler rom the adp1 one i could us another sim, i will look into the method beav_35 put but im not sure on any reputable sites to trust to do this method.

As far as I can tell, all you need to do is replace the SIM card that works for your carriers over there. Hpe that helps.
Try the sim of not you need to modify the radio config
