Rumour has it - there is a hack available to turn the iPodTouch into an unlocked iPhone!
What the hackers fail to see is that an iPod will never make a very good phone. Anyway Palm has countered these claims stating that touch is a Palm thing and it makes good sense ; -)
I know I'm a n00b, but what the hell is the relevance of this in a WM6 forum for the Hermes?
Thread moved to off-topic. In the future, please post in the appropriate forums.
Thanks.
Lol. There's a rumour that the iPod can be turned into a phone?
Well well. So they didn't have the space and hardware to build in a 3g radio in the phone, but they threw in a whole phone just for free in the ipod? That's jolly decent of them.
Unlocked too, that's just the icing on the cake. Apple is too kind.

Possibly they would hack my Wizard so it could run WinXp with multi-touch feature.. and fire laser as well?
I think that video has something to do with this thread

I just saw the Youtube video on this. All I have to say is....
ARE YOU KIDDING???
Who could possibly be stupid enough to think that just by inserting a spring in the bottom of an ipod would magically give it the hardware and software capabilities to dial a phone number?
Hey, do you think that if I insert the spring in the bottom of my laser printer I could turn it into a 60 inch LCD with High Definition and HD DVD Player?
I swear!!! This kind of logic is taken straight out of ET The Extraterrestrial. Just clamping things together that all of the sudden, bam! A whole bunch of kitchenware tuned into an intergalacting transmitter.

WAHAHAHAHAHA!! LOL!!!
frickin laser beams... haha!
even if it's cheaper to produce 1 type of pcb and have software take care of the various models i seriously doubt apple would make ipodtouch with all the phone components inside too
heck they might use the same pcb but there is no reason they would have the smt machines add the components for the mobile which would never be used

While this guy tend to make his video as 'good' as possible with all the crap about the wire poking thing and recorded dialing tone crap.. he missed the point of where do I insert the phone SIM card. I bet there would be some stupid guy who will tell you that, you can insert a SIM card into the (say) SD card reader and poke here and there to make a phone call Example of such moron ideas --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=779184&postcount=2

I was wondering if anyone has tried to get this issue on TV? Something like CNN TECH, X-Play, or Attack of the Show. Maybe something a bit more national and mainstream would spark a bigger fire. I think all of the technology websites linking the story are a HUGE help, maybe its time to call in the larger media cannons.
Can we get more threads about this today?

This just in, HTC an electronic gadget creater has pissed off some 13000 nerds with overpriced phones. From our understanding the gadgeteers decided to neglect its customer base by omitting a video driver in it's software package. This missing video driver is responsible for poor renduring of the display and the nerds also accuse it of slowing down the phone and causing crappy camera quality.
Now back to your regurly scheduled program.

Sure, I'm one of the ones that signed the thing. I dont' mind being called a nerd.
It's amazing how all these newcomers with only 1 post ask about the video issue. Makes me wonder if existing members register with a new username and post either to piss others off or ask questions without harming their reputation.

or
BORED
????
I think he meant Bord, which is the Swedish cousin of El Borg.
Yukka yukka.
So in all seriousness, the Kaiser is slow. Really slow. Like, too much software for too little processing power. I'm coming from a Treo 650, which did exactly what I wanted it to at lightning speed.
I'm seriously considering returning my Tilt and getting a 3g Steve Jobs Special or another Palm PDA.
I went from Palm Pilot -> Kyocera 6035 -> Treo 650 -> Kaiser. So far, I feel like the Kaiser impedes rather than enables my daily productivity.
Bleh.

The Tilt is a great phone, what else do you need?
If you want something exciting why don't you pickup a new iPhone 3G? Seems to have a lot going for it..

right now, I'm thinking I need more speed. The Tilt is very very slow compared to my Treo 650, even without overclocking the processor.
Also, the interface is more laptop PC, less cell phone. Five+ clicks per basic task = 4 too many. It's a mouse-and keyboard like interface.
Plus, Outlook Mobile is lame.
I dunno, I still have it and am flashing away to try and improve things. I like having control over my phone's software, hardware and OS, but I don't like having it be agonizingly slow.
-Mod
Mod'em is right about having extreme control over the hardware/software but it being just toooooo daaaaaang slooooooow.
I also firmly believe this is why I'm most definitely waiting for the next gen powered devices (UMPC's/MID's). These are most likely:
-Intel ATOM powered devices (X86 platform)
-NVIDIA Tegra powered devices (can you say 720p H.264 with the CPU/GPU/Chipset only taking up 1.3watts!).
But really, the hardware you see in the videos at the link below almost made me cry! Do yourself a favor and check them out!
http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/03/nvidia-shows-off-tegra-on-video/2
Those videos show what I've been looking for in my mobile device. I think a Tegra chipset is in my future and going to be the device that takes me away from my tilt.
I wonder where can I get the little android toy in the second video on this page

Hi Friends,
Not a stranger to CL at all, have scored many-a-deals there, am aware of the necessary pre-cautions that come with CL and testing and buying a phone from there. But, for the first time I am thinking of picking up my first flat-screen TV from CL.
Before everyone throws in the red flags at once ! LOL! The guy, so far, from texts and etc sounds like a well versed professional in healthcare, much like myself. He is moving, and is not taking his TV with him, which he received in September as a birthday present. He's very responsive, organized, in that he set a specific time for meeting at his house to examine the TV. Much like myself, his terms are fair and upfront. He's talked about the minor aesthetic damage on the TV, and wants cash... He's even gone on to say that he prefers selling his items to people who are friendly and upfront on CL. All of these things actually are things that I do/have done while selling on CL myself. So, that's a bit about the seller.
Where I need your help is on... how to MAKE SURE and TEST and LED TV, since I know next to nothing about them, owning them, and etc?
Sample steps phone for a phone might look like this:
1. Turn on wifi, bluetooth, data, and GPS to make sure they work
2. Make a call
3. Turn on the speaker
4. Launch the camera
5. Take a picture, make a video
6. Play it back to hear the audio
7. Check the SD Card
and so on...
What would be the steps I need to follow when buying a used LED TV?
In case you are wondering the TV is: Sony Bravia KDL60EX723
Thank you for your help!
1. Turn on TV
2. Test audio and video
3. Test HDMI
4. Make sure there aren't any dead pixels
5. Test all the ports to make sure they're functional.
6. Ummm... Test the remote?
Sent from my Nexus 7
Check connections like AV and HDMI.
Check if screen has any defects like high or low colour saturation.
Ask for a bill or receipt too
Make sure there is no screen leaks
Before you buy it look at this from the same guy on CL. I think he is pulling something over on you.

So HTC has a secret tool used to take apart the HTC one without damaging it hopefully someone can get there hands on it

Interesting find, to say the least. I wonder what it is though. iFixit's pretty thorough, and I can't imagine they'd miss any obvious way into the casing...so whatever this trick tool is, it must be fairly clever (which could mean either brilliantly simple or...well, not. )

Only that the tool costs about 1 million dollars. Those bastards. I know people enjoy the kind of design like apple, but I prefer those that use screws. I opened my touch diamond after it dropped on ground and display didn't work. I plugged the cable back in, and it worked again. Well, that old day is gone.
I had 3 refurbished Ones, all with separate problems. I assume they did not have this magic tool.
It probably not a "tool" that you can hold or have shipped to your house.
It's probably a 1 ton machine with precision heating elements and clamps. None of that knifing crap.

Hopefully this tool is effective and reliable. My phone's main board has to be replaced, so they'll have to open it up. Now that I know they have a special tool, I have the right to raise hell if they send it back all screwed up.
bump
looks like someone has found a way to open it with minimal damage it seems
