BORED
????
I think he meant Bord, which is the Swedish cousin of El Borg.
Yukka yukka.
So in all seriousness, the Kaiser is slow. Really slow. Like, too much software for too little processing power. I'm coming from a Treo 650, which did exactly what I wanted it to at lightning speed.
I'm seriously considering returning my Tilt and getting a 3g Steve Jobs Special or another Palm PDA.
I went from Palm Pilot -> Kyocera 6035 -> Treo 650 -> Kaiser. So far, I feel like the Kaiser impedes rather than enables my daily productivity.
Bleh.

The Tilt is a great phone, what else do you need?
If you want something exciting why don't you pickup a new iPhone 3G? Seems to have a lot going for it..

right now, I'm thinking I need more speed. The Tilt is very very slow compared to my Treo 650, even without overclocking the processor.
Also, the interface is more laptop PC, less cell phone. Five+ clicks per basic task = 4 too many. It's a mouse-and keyboard like interface.
Plus, Outlook Mobile is lame.
I dunno, I still have it and am flashing away to try and improve things. I like having control over my phone's software, hardware and OS, but I don't like having it be agonizingly slow.
-Mod
Mod'em is right about having extreme control over the hardware/software but it being just toooooo daaaaaang slooooooow.
I also firmly believe this is why I'm most definitely waiting for the next gen powered devices (UMPC's/MID's). These are most likely:
-Intel ATOM powered devices (X86 platform)
-NVIDIA Tegra powered devices (can you say 720p H.264 with the CPU/GPU/Chipset only taking up 1.3watts!).
But really, the hardware you see in the videos at the link below almost made me cry! Do yourself a favor and check them out!
http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/03/nvidia-shows-off-tegra-on-video/2
Those videos show what I've been looking for in my mobile device. I think a Tegra chipset is in my future and going to be the device that takes me away from my tilt.

I have discovered the HTC Advantage x 7501.
The only difference with the kaiser seem to be that its got a bigger Display.
Anyone aware of any other cons/pros. - or what BETTED DEVICE THERE IS ?
I need to sell my T-mobile VArio III
http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_x7501.htm
hmmm 16 gb version - X7510
Don't do it. I got one and sold it 1 month later. The TyTNII does all the same things and is more portable. The X7510 does look very interesting thought. I liked my X7501 but found it to be too much to carry around, and having to have a bluetooth headset on all day at work didn't work for me either.
Just my 2 cents.
ru serious? do You know the size and weight of this device??? the other thing is that You can use it as a phone only with headset or with built in loudspeaker, not in a normal phone-ish way.
vga and faster proc are pros, but the size is a real no go for me.
I might leave kaiser, but for some good multimedia device like upcoming nokia N96 or that sooo hyped new SE xperia.
br
bro
I'd prefer my Kaiser... more portable and it fits on my belt bag and it is a phone.
I wonder others seeing me speaking with a TV on my ear... he he
the advantage has been out for a while (what you linked to), but if you've ever seen it the thing is huge, the screen's like 5 inches, its like the size of an in-dash navigation. it is closer to a small laptop than a ppc.
I Have and use both. i like my advantage but it is a big big, if you are just goign to and from work then it is a good phone but if you go out to dinner or out on the town i like my tilt. both good phones, the very cool thing about the advantage is the screen so big so beautiful. and it have very good battery life. good for watching movies. it also have USB port for flash drive and have VGA out (as well as s-video) you can connect a keyboard and muse to it as well. all in all it is a very cool device. but kinda on the large side...
Just attach this to your Vario III:

...Sorry, couldn't resist.
lol. good sense of humor
I got an Ameo the day after they were released, kept it for 3 months, sold it and now have a Vario 3 (if I was rolling it I might have both) if you're only going to have one phone you should get the Vario 3.
Coz the Ameo (Advantage) isn't a phone.
And one day I might update my sig ;-)
Thanks for the replies guys,
I got fascinated by the Advantage’s screen – It keeps the Internet on hand ( I guess ). I agree that no browser at the moment can compete with the Iphone’s browser , but IE/Opera will catch up and when they do – Advantage will be a great device.
I do consulting and most companies do not allow to plug/carry notebooks. Something like the Advantage is what I need.
I also checked out HTC Shift – but that is another thread..
I just thought of what would be a great device. Imagine the Advantage as it is , except that you can take a part out of it , the phone part , and use it as a phone …

You don't need working drivers for that video - it's Liverpool - they always play in slow motion anyway so no problems with camera lag
"You don't need working drivers for that video - it's Liverpool - they always play in slow motion anyway so no problems with camera lag "
LOL !!!
Nice
Interestingly that endgadget article has a post that this phone does not actually run Windows Mobile... but some sort of rip-off.
Other sites that sell the device don't state WM6 (or any version) on their features list.
Does M$ charge alot for putting WM on a device? If so that could be one reason for the low price.
Plus it only has a 30 day warranty, I believe the tilt has a 1 year(?)
More here
http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2008/04/awang_a9000_clones_att_tilt.html
Uses "some sort of Windows Mobile operating system". The real one is already a buggy mess, go figure that one...LOL
I bet it will perform better than the Kaiser, and I'm not kidding (sadly).
It will probably perform better than the Kaiser because it is using a basic OS that is more like a calculator than a Windows Mobile.
So, it probably boots up in 5 seconds, switches apps in a fraction.
But it also probably doesn't have TouchFlo, PIE, or many of the other features that make the Kaiser/Tilt nice.
It is like any of the other numerous phones out there on the market (like from Verizon) that have a slide out keyboard with a proprietary OS.
This of course is assuming the statements above about it not being WM6 are true. If it indeed runs WM6 then I am sure the performance will be equivalent to the Kaiser.
hi,
Kaiser has been a disaster. I am tired of flashing Roms every other day.
Thinking of buying Treo Pro. I guess its got almost same specs as kaiser.
I just need to know if its being manufactured by those Taiwanese cheaters/Frauds. I don't want to use HTC Hardwares.
What about Imate do they manufacture their own phones?
Any info will help me make my life more simpler.
Tough luck man! Treo Pro is also manufactured by HTC!!!!!
See this - http://www.palminfocenter.com/news/9656/palm-treo-pro-review/
Anyway what is wrong with your Kaiser (or HTC)?? My Kaiser works perfectly fine
Indeed, I don't know what's wrong with the Kaiser. Some people flash repeatedly because they can't live without it and need their fix, but that's in no way necessary... I tried one custom ROM, liked it, and never flashed again in 6 months, and my device works just as I'd expect it to. Period...
HTC happens to make a fair amount of Windows Mobile hardware out there out the market. Sorry to tell you that? Their hardware is actually superb, its the software implementation that you're complaining about(and which I can sympathize to a degree with you). The Android is coming out on T-Mobile relatively soon. You might take a look at that. HTC made still, but the software should be MUCH nicer than Windows Mobile.
I need hardware as good as Nokia

I have go myself a Treo Pro. I also grew tired of the kaiser issues;
Camera
Video
Keyboard
GPS (on 6.1)
If anyone would like me to compare the two in specific tests, let me know soon before this Tilt is sold.

Hi,
Im very interested to see what current Kaiser users are planning to up grade to?
I almost bought the Blackstone but the hardware keys prove very valueable with java apps. Not to mention that the jog dial is also very useful.
Any projected handsets that HTC will release that support dual sim, and maintain the hardware buttons similar to the Kaiser?
Thanks
I'm in the same boat, except I also have a secondary desire..... The Pre. But I don't plan on changing from AT&T so..... we'll see. I haven't heard anything concrete in that regard except for a weak rumor that a Centro-like WebOS might be coming to AT&T which I don't care about.
So I'm eyeballing the "Tilt 2" but I'm with you in that I REALLY like having hardware buttons, losing the 5-way controller blows..
Touch Pro 2 brah!!!!!

I only miss the Camera button, the scroll wheel, an ummmmm the button above the scroll wheel, the Windows button, the left/right softkey buttons.
the Center button, and the 4way Dpad.
Not to mention I have to use the Left Hand!!!!
I cant open the slider with just left hand.. lolz.. i guess i need to switch the fapping hand.
But I really like the new TP2 because of the real estate on the screen.
Not to mention the 3G connection... (which doesn't work I my room cuz of weak signal, so Edge only) Oh and the keyboard is ALOT better (both hardware and on-screen)
It is definitely worth the purchase for me. (half the price of the unlocked Kaiser, duh!)
blackstone for me...
i have the kaiser for nearly ... past 2 yrs.... really enjoyed using phone.. and still do...but....about 4 months back ..upgraded to blackstone and in beginning ..bit upset with some missing issues...as you ,also named..jog dial... hardware buttons....... also some software ...etc ..but.....
after tweaking this and that... you get so use to the blackstone (and screen ) that the missing issues..(jog dial....hardware buttons..)becomes a very.. very small issue ... the blackstone ..to me is... no 1.. .!!!
working very... very smoothly..!!!!
..but yes..in beginning (for 1 month ) after upgrading i did miss the kaiser eperience...but hey...
... now i have the pleasure in having both phones ( one old .. but still good and the other one ..blackstone.... my favorite...
my vote ..blackstone..

I... read this...post...in the...voice.. of Willam...Shatner
But... I can't...get a phone...from....PriceLine.
And, I'm waiting for the Touch Pro 2 when released by AT&T.
http://blog.mozilla.com/blassey/2009/09/04/fennec-alpha-3-for-windows-mobile/
I have installed this on my X1 and the interface looks good, but I can't get it to load any web pages!!
Am I missing something or is anyone else having the same issue?
For those that want to give it a try the cab is here:
bit.ly/wma3cab
same here
I didn't have any trouble at all - just installed and ran fine. I'm using Touch-X custom rom though, so I'm not sure if that affects it. I've tried both a1 and a3.
I'm really excited about the layout, it certainly better and more inline with the iPhone Safari experience; needless to say the rendering is the same as FF for desktops. But it's quite unstable, many pages cause the browser to crash/quit, and since there's no support for OpenES yet - it's painfully slow.
I only had one problem with it. It was terribly slow.
As Opero Mobile Turbo mode is still in beta and does not support lots of features, I keep my Opera mini.

Thats absolutely no excuse for this extremely slow piece of software, Opera Mobile 9.6 didn't have any acceleration either and is over an hundred times faster. OpenGL-ES was one of the key-features of 9.7 Beta.
Granted, its a Alpha. But all things considered, I dont think we'll ever see this running at reasonable speeds on the 528Mhz MSM7200A.
Im very interested how the speed is on the, 1Ghz Snapdragon powered, LG TG01 phone.
The actual page panning is a lot better since A2, it's just panning onto the interface that is painfully slow.

Haha that's true, shame that it seems Fennec's focus is really just on the Nokia platform at the moment.
on my x1, don't start the browser, crash only.
www.opera.com/next
OperaMini 5 soon..
Will kick ass probably.
I think some people in this thread forget that it is a fricking ALFA! IT IS SUPPOSED TO CRASH AND BE SLOW AND LAGGY! Ever heard of a "work in progress", or did you think "alfa" is part of the name? Pffft...
