Hi,
Received my brilliant brilliant kaiser today. Every penny worth an upgrade from trinity apart from a slight brick feeling.
I was wondering if someone knows how to keep QWERTY keyboard lights on all the time while you are using the keyboard. At the moment they stay on for few seconds when keyboard is opened, but turns off later and don't turn on even on pressing keys unless you close and open the keyboard. It would be helpful to type in dark if backlight on keyboard keys stay on as long as keyboard is open.
thanks
heh i use the low tech way, i put my finger over the light sensor
I am wondering the same thing. There is an option for "Automatic keyboard auto sensor" for the backlight under "Settings....Buttons....Backlight" but haven't been able to get it to work. Where is the light sensor? I could possibly go high tech and put tape over it!
Update:
In the Registry, navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER...Control Panel....Backlight....QKeyLedTimeout
and change the default value from 10(seconds) to something high eg. 180 (3 minutes).
This will keep the backlight on for the specified amount of time.

so say you only need the keyboard for 1 min, when you slide it shut does it stay lit for the other 2 min or go off when closed?
One last update....the above registry mod actually will keep the phone button backlights on for the specified time as well as the keyboard backlight. So, this could be a bonus for some. Still haven't found the light sensor on this device I am guessing it is on the keyboard on the left side (tiny hole), but I still haven't been able to activate it. Anybody else had any luck?

Unticking this option actually fixes the issue... If you DON'T enable the auto-sensor, the light will come back on instantly on every new key press (any key..).
Stretching up the time-out with earlier suggested reg-mod is a nice added bonus...
The sensor is slightly left from the Q-key. A little black dot.
Strange,
I put my finger on top of it, and it did not light the keyboard

Yeah.. my light sensor is iffy... Maybe it is just a bug.. I can be in a totally dark room and they key backlight will not turn on. If i disable the auto sensor the backlight, of course, works as normal.
i think i will have to leave it disabled..

Hello,
I have a kaiser and my auto sensor is not work.
Anyone have auto sensor (for light keyboard) work on his kaiser ?
Thanks.

That is exactly the same problem as I am having. I can't seem to get the keyboard to light up in complete darkness. My other devices never had this problem. The backlight would come on in darkness. Any suggestions?

Most of the time it works for me.. The easiest fix it to simply disable the light sensor. It works just like any other PPC then. If it is misbehaving a reboot will fix it for a while. I haven't actually had any problems for a bit now. I wonder if it has anything to do with the lock password bug? I did disable my lock password and haven't had any problems since.. might just be a coincidence. Wouldn't hurt to try that too just to see.

how do i hangup a call?
the screen is black and therefor inaccessible after a very short while so i cant use the
on-screen red end-call buttun, and also the button on the right-bottom (phone-icon down)
doesnt work!!! (or sporadically: cant put my fuinger on that yet....)
i tried the tweak where my screen will stay up while having a call, but that one doesnt seem
to work on my rom-version or so? (standard 1.35 dutch version).
is there another (or new) way to keep the screen up while on a call maybe?
please help: this is highly annoying as you probably understand.....
Thanks group!
The (hardware) button on the bottom right should work normally if you want to end a call. It could be that there is just a little leg between pressing it (once) and the phone actually responding to it.
If you want the screen to pop on during a call, just press the power button on top of the phone. Could have figured that out yourself... (even by searching the forum)
what a problem.... lol.. did you assign the hang up button to something else??
thx guys!
no, not assigned to something else.
the power-button is ok yes, thanks. still: the screens display should stay on, right?
thank you!
much appreciated

No the screen light will not stay on when your making a call. Simply put and its been repeated so many times on here now...that when you make a call the diamond light goes off as soon as the sensor senses that its near your ear...the sensor is next to the earpiece...clear little led light. What you can do to get around it...which is what i do is ring the number you want to ring and dont put it next to your ear until you get the vibrate ie when the call connects then put it next to your ear and the light should stay on...well it does on mine but if that dont work then when in a call just press the middle navigation button and that will turn the phone backlight on for you.

Spawn, you're absolutely wrong about the sensor... the screen light goes off regardless of whether you hold the phone against your face or not.. it's a timer..
Older phones like the Touch Cruise didn't have the sensor but yet it turns the backlight off after a few secs...
It's a timer setting in the Registry.
It turns the backlight off to save battery.

i thought spawn is right but i did a very simple experiment.
called my self from my fix phone and live the diamond on the table face up. i answered without picking the phone and after a few sec the light went off.
happyguy82-1, spawn and kukuriku-0
if there is a timer it has a registry and where there is a registry it has to be a "tweak".
btw, another way to have the light back and a safe background for yr ear is simply pull out the pen. you''ll get a note that will not bother anyone because it is not actionable by yr ear lol!
if you'll light on the screen with any other means you and your partner in the conversation will get for sure a few "beeps" when the phone pad is touched by yr ear.

Ermm no it doesnt...i just made a call to test your theory....didnt put the phone to my ear and when i did the light still stayed on. Left the diamond still connected for about a min or so and still the light stayed on...
On my phone i have the TLR version 1 rom running and made a few adjustments in the power settings so dont know if thats made any difference to the light staying on etc.

you are right ...i think i didn't pickup the phone but i was too close, looking at the screen....and that was enough to start the sensor.

There are two listed tweaks for preventing the Diamond from turning the screen off during a call. I've done them both, and nothing happens. Are these tweaks confirmed to work for all phones, or just on some? It says the "Sleep" one works on european ROM -- do all European phones have the same rom?
I'm having a simmilar problem... It seems that the screen turns off after a set period of time... I thought that the light sensor was supposed to only shut the screen off when you bring it up to your ear, light gets dull... I have the phone sitting in well lit room and done got near it yet the screen still turns off..?

give it a shot
I've read that if you remove the stylus while in a call, then the note program comes on automatically, but the screen will also stay on until the call is finished

yes, you are right and this is in my humble opinion the best solution. this way even if u touch with yr ear/cheek the screen no funny noises and no unwanted programs popping up not to mention that this way u have the choice and if you don't need the screen it stays black.
If you want to turn your screen back on during a call just simply press the round center button once and it will turn back on. no need for any hacks.
Thanks for the help
From what I have read, the phone screen should only turn off the screen when you bring it up to your ear/there is low light on the light sensor in the handsets ear speaker... My phone's screen shuts itself off after 3 seconds or so, doesnt matter where light is... If you just disable fastdormant (1 to 0), does the phone still shut itself off after x seconds or does it wait until there is a change in light?
Can anyone confirm/clarify the above???
Also is it possible to reactivate the display once the phone detects a sizeable change in brightness again? From reading the links posted, no one has found a solution for this one yet..?
The screen will not turn off as long as you continue to touch the center button during call. The default setting work fine with me until I need to get information during a call yesterday. The center button touch allow you to use other functions during phone call.
[EDIT] STRANGELY ENOUGH, AFTER ENTERING THE REGISTRY AND JUST LOOKING AT THE VALUE OF THE KEYS HAS SOLVED THE PROBLEM BELOW...

My problem is that my phone won't go into the sleep mode when calling. Covering the phone doesn't help (I've tested the light sensor, and that still works)
For me this feature is a positive thing so I would like it to work again.
The registry entry for the EnableFastDormant is still on "1". The HTC Phone Skin is loaded (without that skin it doesn't work either).
When searching the forum I come across people who want their screen to stay on... I want the opposite to happen again. Anybody a suggestion?

Check this reg entry as well:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\Sleep - 1
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LightSensorPollingEnable - 1
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatteryTimeoutInCall - 5
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatterySuspendTimeoutInCall - 5
Also,
Start - Settings - System
Power
Advanced
Check the following:
Turnoff Backlight if device is not used for 30 Sec
Turn off Device if not used for 40 sec
All the best
Note: After changing Registry Entries.. (if you had to).. do a soft reset.

Problem with 1.93 ROM
Hey,
I cant seem to get the screen to stay on during a phone call using Asia WWE 1.93 ROM....
I have got BattTimeoutIncall = 0
BattSuspendIncall = 0
Phone\Sleep = 0
EnableFastdormant = 0
but the screen still turns off if i leave the phone sitting on the desk under light exactly when the call time ticks over to 4 sec (0:03 to 0:04)...
Ideas anyone, is this an issue with v1.93 rom?
Thanks.
this works!

This is actually the best option because it turns off the screen when you want to conserve battery life.
So I just press the Center button when I want to see the screen to use the keypad or speakerphone.
Also, I have disabled the phone shade (curtain) by doing this:
Code:
HKLM/Software/HTC/Phone/PhoneLockEnable = 0
Hey guys, I know that the Kaiser has a light sensor to tell the keyboard when to light up (at least I think I read that somewhere)... So does anyone know a program that uses this light sensor to adjust the backlight of the screen according to how bright it is outside? I would love it so that when I'm indoors the backlight is dimmer to save battery, but when outside in direct sunlight it gets brighter so I can see it well. Anyone know if this is plausible?
If a program doesn't exist, I'd really like to develop one. However, considering I have no experience, I would need considerable help. If someone is interested in developing this, that would be awesome!

I don't think there are any light sensors on the Kaiser. The keyboard just lights up anytime when you want it, I think there is a setting for that.
to the left of the letter q on the qwerty keyboard there is a sensor that makes the keyboard light up when it is dark
If you press a key and it is dark, the keyboard backlight will invoke, and if its light out and you press the keyboard, the backlight does not invoke.
what dyou mean lights out
the backlight will light up whenever the sensor next to the q senses no light

He said when it's light out, as in when there is a lit environment.
Anyone have any ideas how to tap into that sensor? Or perhaps have the lens of the camera sense light when the keyboard is closed somehow for the backlight? Am I thinking way to hard about this? lol

Turning off light sensor for keyboard:
Start/settings/buttons/backlight tab/uncheck "enable keyboard backlight auto sensor". That's it.
Cheers
Keyboard Backlight Time-Out
My backlight comes on fine, but no matter how dark it is, it will not stay on for more than a few seconds. So then I have to hit just ANY old key to try and start typing again.
Anyone know how to make the KEYBOARD backlight stay on longer?
Thanks.
I checked the power settings(I set it off after 1 Min),but the phone display is on during calls. It's on for 6-7 mins, not turning off. What to do? Please rep ASAP
Just press the power button on the top of the phone, and it will turn the screen off. Well thats what i do any way. Try it out
Dont hold it for to long otherwise the phone will turn off, just give it a quick press!

Hi,
I have the exactly opposite problem. I have installed XperiaTweak (current version) and enabled the option "Disable Screen Turning Off during calls", but it's still turning off after a minute (like the normal standby settings...).
Do you know the registry key etc. for that feature so that I can check the settings?

Whats most retarded is why we can't have what the iPhone ALREADY does...
the Xperia X1 has a front facing (near your ear) light sensor. It should turn the screen off when it is next to your ear, and turn it on when you move it away from your ear... JUST LIKE HOW THE iPHONE DOES IT.
I mean, something this simple... why hasn't it been implemented?
Think about it. Why put the light sensor near the ear then? When not put it on the side or something? because obviously someone thought that, well, when the phone is near the ear, it will go from light to immediate darkness, and when moved away, dark to light.
Why cant we have somethign this simple? Or anyone know of a workaround or third party app?

The X1 as you probably know has no light sensor or accelerometer, so there is no way to interpret when the phone is at your ear or otherwise.

the iphone switches the screen off when it goes to your head then turns back on when u take it away. is there a simple app for this??
Phone lacks the proximity sensor the iPhone has. Fortunately, it has a plethora of other useful features (a keyboard, picture messages, etc.)

To add on to that the phone also goes to sleep when the call is connected and its just a matter of pressing the power button to get it to wake up again.
mine doesnt
Well mine has always went black when it goes up to my ear, but it would be nice if it came back on when removed from my ear.. although we dont have a proximity sensor, i dont see why it coulnt work with the gsensor/accelerometer. all it would have to do is go on when the phone is put back in the upright position

is it possible to in fact use the light sensor? it obviously recognizes something when it turns off, maybe write up something saying "when dark below 'x' threshold, turn off screen. when bright above threshold, screen on. you would have to press the screen somewhat snugly to your face, but it sure beats nothing.

It should be possible, but no one has done anything with the light sensor of turning it back on. I'm thinking that the polling of the light sensor turns off when the screen is in standby. If we can somehow get that to work in only incall (so it doesn't have battery issues), then it should work, when it goes from little light to more light, it should act as close to phone to far away from phone.
One could even use 2 sensors for it? Maybe the Light-Sensor and the G-Sensor. So when u bring the phone to your ear the light gets dark an the position upright. (the phone turns the screen off) And as soon as it get brighter and the position is change to normal (whatever that is ) it turns back on.
I reall would love to write something like that. But so far i have no clue of writing anything for that phone. Does anyone know a tutorial for writing software for a pda?
Thx
Come on guys this would be soooo great

It doesn't actually do that when you put it up to your ear. It's a WinMo setting to put the phone in standby after a call is launched or received. What you preceive as behavior is actually a timing thing.
The guy from pocket shield managed to combine these two sensors, g-sensor and light sensor, to work together as locking/unlocking behavior.
maybe some g-sensor and lumos code can handle this thing... and create one cab solution here...
if some one could write this code it would be an AWESOME addition to the Phone. I would personaly love this as im sure many others would.
Thanks.
