Thanks to the people that notified me HTC changed the way to switch the radio band in Kaiser. BAndswitch and commmgrpro projects (Hermes forum) will be updated tomorrow.

Now upgrading Bandswitch to V2.4
Bandswitch project updated to V2.4. Again now band switch works on kaiser.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286844
I was wondering, if I've installed Schap's 3G Comm Manager that allows me to tap the 3G key to turn On/Off 3G without resetting the phone, does Band Switch add anything more?
Well. Standard commmgr allows to change the band doing one change in the registry. It isnt exclusive of schap rom. This feature wasn before. But bandswitch adds many features, like change to 3g, not only auto mode. Change band with time limit (if you forget to go back to gsm the program does it automatically after some minutes. The same to control Bluetooth, wifi and phone. It allows to manage all the ras connections, connect, disconnect, always on and close idle connections (but no with registry tweak because It doesnt work correctly, but monitoring all the connections and data flow)...
CommMgrPro extends this concept to profiles that automatically changes depending on location (cell-id) and time. But these features are covered in their threads......

Hi
One person had problem switching from 2G to 3G because phone didnt register correctly on network. I tested it in two kaisers without problems. It would be nice if someone could help me and verify if it works in his kaiser. Download: http://commmgrpro.com/db5/00454/commmgrpro.com/_download/BandSwitch.V2.4.CAB

Nice . Are you talking about bandswitch or commmgrpro?. I suppose the last one because It is skin based. Current one was done by a fantastic Italian designer (skiZZO). Soon there will be more available although they are easy to do because Its only needed one xml file and images....(But It takes time to do a nice theme)

I see that bandswitch and commmgrpro have the facility to disconnect after x seconds of idle time. How reliable is this?
I currently use PhoneAlarm which has the same facility but I noticed that the auto disconnect is flaky. I disabled any automatic updates just to be sure but the disconnect is often much later than the established period. The PhoneAlarm support forum states that this facility just sets a registry entry and it is up to Windows to handle the auto-disconnect. I checked the registry setting and it is as per the PhoneAlarm setting.
Hence my question as to the reliability of the bandswitch/commmgrpro setting...
Hi
I know registry tweaks dont work correctly to close idle connections. Bandswitch and commmgrpro explicitly monitors data traffic each x seconds and closes them when trafficis minor than 1 KB(because sometimes there are residual packets or control tcp packets flowing)

I also noticed that the registry tweaks did not work well or reliably. I installed the demo of Band Switch and it worked flawlessly...everytime...even when the device was asleep. My battery life has increased immensley.
I bought Band Switch the second my demo expired!
Great work Daniel.
Daniel,
Is the way the communications are handled on the Tilt documented anywhere or did you have to reverse engineer it to figure it out?
Thanks,
Greg

Hi.
If you are talking about connections (close idle connections, disable them, etc) then Its win32 api standard. If you talk about switch between 2g-3g then I did reverse ingineering of htc binaries. It was easiest on HTC Hermes, Universal and Athena but in Kaiser (Tilt) It was much more dificult (Strange calls to undocumented htc methods with variable parameters). I am scared about incoming htc models....
Dani
Is there a guide to indicate what all of the options do? How does the auto feature work, ect. Will it switch to 3G if need or only switch from 3G to Edge.
Thanks

Live Search for Windows Mobile now offers voice input (in beta), gas prices, and hours of operation for businesses. Voice recognition works pretty good for an online app.
http://wls.live.com
Wow, it's been a while since MS one-upped Google. I'll have to check this out. Looks pretty nice!
I wish it had turn-by-turn voice but guess this will be great while driving. I am quite amazed of the speed of voice recognition even on EDGE.
Very cool... now, what did I like about Google Maps again to keep both on my device? I can't remember!
Google maps supports european cities.
Once Live came out the first time, I dumped google. It blows google away 10 fold!!! It has more features and loads and runs faster. The only thing that it doesn't have that would be cool is Dallas traffic. OH and for those that don't have GPS, LBS would be a cool feature.
Now that it has the gas feature, there really isn't any reason to go with the TeleNav from AT&T...not that I was anyways. Pay for GPS...my ass!
So it doesn't have spoken turn by turn, but it does notify you when the next event is. That has worked for me.
The voice thing is cool to, not sure i'm going to use that too much though?
Later,
Aaron

Live search definitely blows googlemaps away.
I installed this last night, but I cannot see how to get the speech recognition working. The "Enable speech recognition" is greyed out. Is it US only?
Just wondering if im doing something wrong here. in previous versions you could type a street adress in the search bar and select the city and if would fing the address and allow you to map it.. with this version that does not work, i have to type the full address with city in the lower location bar and then switch to map in order to see the location. because of this i can't find a way to just say an adress. it recognizes everything correctly but just puts the street address in upper bar and city in lower bar then if unable to find any matches. is there a certain tag of something you need to say before the address so it knows to look for stret address and not a business name or something like that?
Speech Recognition is US and UK only.
It doesn't appear that it works with a bluetooth headset, you have to speak into the phone itself. Otherwise, its very cool.
I don't hold much hope for voice recognition being much more than a gimmick, but even so, I think this is one of the best apps to come out of Redman in a long time. Navigation and usability are high, and the search results look top notch. They must have spent some big $$$ on data acquisition to get all the up to date traffic, movies, resturants, gas prices, etc...
Now how can they get this so right, then put a handy left soft key delete in the messaging window only to prompt you on every single delete?!?!?! MNFS
Installed it last night...uh-oh, the big M is onto something...

I think it's critical for use when driving. Interestingly though, I didn't find their gas station pricing to be very complete. There are a lot of gas stations in my area listed by gasbuddy.com that aren't on MS Live. You'd think they'd just partner up with gasbuddy, since they are already established and have a method for collecting that data.
is it me?
Is it only me who can't get speech recognition working?
I am in UK with Vario III on T-mobile uk. I have reinstalled with the latest cab from wls.live.com This installs version 2.5.2840.19676.
On the settings page the option to enable speech recognition is greyed out and not selectable. Can someone just check their version number and describe what they have to do to activate speech input.
I do have MS Voice Command 1.6.4622.0 installed and I wonder if this is causing a conflict.
If all else fails I will hard reset and install again. Voice control is a must have for me as I am in car most of the day.
Well I was always a Live Search guy over google maps because of the stupid data error that google always gives me. The voice rec is pretty accurate and very vital for use when driving.

There are two versions, a UK specific version and a US version (that allows you to select UK). The latter does not offer voice control when UK is selected.
You have probably downloaded via IE mobile. It appears the website detects your locale and initiates a locale-specific download. If you browse to wls.live.com/ from your PC you are re-directed to http://m.live.com/download/download.aspx?a=download&dlt=wls&mid=1011 since the site cannot detect your device. From there you can select an option to manually download. The cab downloaded this way is the US/UK version weighing in at around 715Kb as opposed to around 550Kb for the UK-only version you will have downloaded via your device. This (larger) cab allows you to select either the UK or the US and has voice control enabled for the US option only.
I've not tried the voice control yet, but I suspect it is optimised for US speakers.
Best regards,
Steve

there is a trick to this ...go to settings and change it to United states
and then go back to the main menu change your location to London England./ or anywhere in england if that fails then try this ...while connected to the internet ..type in london in the seach bar.. it will then prompt you for "london england" select ... and now use should the speak function.

Thanks mate.
Why I should expect MS stuff to be intuitive and just work I dont know, and why I need to swear allegance to the Stars and Stripes before it works is beyond me. It is working now ish, but I may need to work on my accent. If all else fails I can kidnap my Texan sister in law to speak to live search for me.
Thanks y'all from the Peoples Rebublic of Mancunia
Typical as I typed the above post live search beta just crashed my Kaiser. 1st involuntary soft reset.
A quick stick up its bum and one reset later its working fine.
Will I be able to connect to the GPS part of this updated program, with my Tilt, if I do not subscribe to a GPS plan?
Hi all,
new GB-SOFT GPRS Tweak v10.07.2008 work on DIAMOND.
Download: GB-SOFT_GPRS-UMTS_Tweak_WM6.1_Diamond.CAB for test.
(After install and soft reset is GB-SOFT Tweak in Settings/System.)
Auto turn off GPRS = more battery life?
(Work if Microsoft Direct Push & Live Messenger is OFF)
(OPERA and YOU TUBE block the connections. GPRS go OFF if OPERA & YT terminated {no minimized} )

Love the Idea...
But it does not seem to work..
I set the thing to disconnect after 1 min.
I wait the minut... and i turn on my divice again..
and it is still connected.
net traffic in / out = 0 ?
first apply = soft reset ?
I'd love a wrapper which i can use around certain programs (opera) which asks me if i want to turn on 3G when launced.
Eg, i create a shortcut:
TurnOnH3Gapp.exe opera.exe
It asks me if i want to turn on 3G, then turns it on, or leaves GPRS, then launces opera. It monitors opera.exe and when it closes it switches back to GPRS only (or asks me if thats what i want to do).
You could make it configurable as to if it asks you on start or exit, or just switches. Now that would be a great app!
Another way to do it would be to have a process running searching for certain exe's starting.
Anyway just a thought.

Only thing that will connect is my email every 30 minuts.
No other connections active..
and i tryd a soft reset.
Today test HTC Diamond:
For me work GB-SOFT Tweak fine...
(Work if Live Messenger and Push Mail is OFF (or other trafic generators))
Off Topic
This is a great app & I'll be installing on my Diamond later after work.
But is there anyway to get rid of that BIG "H", "E", "G" connection icon on the top of the task bar, somewhere within the registry perhaps?
Also would be nice to have a priority to search for HSDPA/3G network first, then set GSM as Secondary. I realize that everytime I manually set these within the network settings, everything goes back to default "Auto" after either POWER OFF or Soft-Reset. Any suggestions?
Works great, really coool thanks!

OPERA and YOU TUBE block the connections. If OPERA & YT exit (no minimize) then GPRS go OFF
Tool works only if device is not in standby, in standby gprs connection stays on my htc diamond original european rom (1.93.407.1).
I would like to get my emails every 60 minutes.
I use the settings in the screen shot, no pushmail, no life messanger, no internet with opera and youtube (never used), set to disconnect after 1 Minute. In Standby it doesn`t work. I looked today on the connection, I was online for 3 hours, I´m afraid of my next telefon bill.

HI,
I also had a look at that but it is too complex for what i need.
I only need something to kill the connection when is idle.
The GB-Soft is OK, the only problem is that it does not work in standby.

Try locr at www.locr.com It is a very good geotagging client, imho.
thanks for your share
ok Thanks, but i was under the impression from reading the reviews that it had this capability already built in?... ok will have a look at locr
IMO geo tag feature is just a software manipulation that connects image browser/taker with the GPS.
You could also check GeoTerrestrial's GPSToday/GeoTagger (www.geoterrestrial.com). It has a lot of nice features, and does the tagging in the background if you want.
shozu works wonders, use the htc touch cab.

Embed GPS location as a tag into the picture you took with the camera. When uploaded to flickr/picasa, the web album will show a map of where you took the picture.
I tried both LOCR and GPSToday/GeoTagger on my X1. Both either hung the phone or made it run really really slowly. A soft reset was the only way to exit the program. Has anyone used either of these successfully? If so how did you set the application up?
Thanks
I had an XDA Orbit before the X1 and had to alter the registry to enable this feature. Does anyone know if this is possible on the X1 cos I was under the same impression that this should be a feature of the X1

Shozu doesn't embed the GPS pos in the EXIF header. IMHO kind of worthless if you copy the pictures to something else than using the shozu uploader.

Tried locr before, but didn't find it as good to configure and use as GeoTagger.
Here's what I did to get GeoTagger to work:
Download GPSToday (http://www.geoterrestrial.com/gpstoday/)
After installing, on the Today screen, click on the map to get the map/configuration screen up.

Go to More->GeoTag Pictures. This will start the installation of the GeoTagger plugin.
When this is done, you go to the setup of the plugin the same way (More->GeoTag Pictures)
On this screen you have a button named Auto-Run Settings. This is the settings for GeoTegging in the background.
You start or stop the background tagging process with the Start and Stop buttons in this Settings screen. You alse set the watched folder for pictures and how old the pictures can be to still tag them.
If you want to tag the pictures manually (if the GPS didn't connect in time for tagging), you have to stop the automatic geotagging here first, while you do it manually. Then, choose your position (actual position or the one on the map on the map screen), select the time span of the pictures and click on "Show & Confirm". If the button only says "Show" then the autotagging isn't stopped as above. You can also select "Run" if you don't want to confirm.
On the today screen you can click on the clock to set the GPS auto update time intervall. Setting it to an intervall gives you almost instant tagging but you won't have any battery at the end of the day! Setting it to off will start the GPS as soon as you take a new picture and tags it when it gets a fix.
Good luck!
Great howto!
thank you!
I've used GPSed http://www.gpsed.com/ on my X1. It runs in de background and records my location and track. When I get home I use geosetter to match the track that is recorded by GPSed with the photo's I've taken.

Loudtalks is available for Windows right now, but we are working hard to bring it to other platforms soon, including your mobile phone. Loudtalks is free and will always be free.

Link not found... but it sounds fun
anyway, here is the link according to the reviews, it should work on Touch Pro Sprint
However, as I understand how it work, although it's free, you still have to pay for the internet to get a connection, right? (that isn't cheap man)
Oops sorry
I've updated the link sorry

There is one bug:
you cannot add or accept contacts on the ppc you must do that on the windows (PC) version
But then it works great
PC version:
http://loudtalks.com/
What are differencies in comparison with Palringo?
I don't like in PR these things:
- voice history is saved on the server and all the time you want to play them,it is necessary to download it
- you push the button and it starts to recording. after you release it,it sends it,so not realtime. how is it working here?
Anyway,it looks great.
yes it is real time and no downloading messages.
just like walkie talkies
Well, that looks great! I missed an info about history. Is it saving as some file each message or how? And it will be available for Smartphones as well? I am using SP's and it can be very good choice,if it can use all resolutions(QCIF,QVGA,QVGAls) and OS(WM2003 as well).Yes and how about transfer rate? Is GPRS/EDGE enough?
Great one!!!
Thanks
Interesting app. I'm testing now

Yes GPRS is enough. The history (voice messages) you can find them if there is a blue arrow. if you click on the arrow you see the history of that contact. you can play them as much as you like.
Loudtalks is only available for Windows desktop and Windows Mobile based handhelds
It should work fine on devices with 400 MHz+ processor and on Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6.0.
Anyone tried this out? How well does it work???
Any plans to port Loudtalks client to BlackBerry? My team has a mixture of WinMo and BB devices. I am WinMo, of course, but some of the suits haven't seen the light yet.

Mark, this works very well. Since the update last week it is much better, faster en clearer.
Even now you get an roger beep befor you receive a message on the phone.
Also you can "send"speak to laptops and pc with speakers and a mic.
You can always try and you can speak to your self with the echo user.
I tested the echo, works good. But I cannot delete the messages. None of my buddy's got a Window Mobile. They prefer cheap old fashion flip phones.
Add me: xhypnotik
I want to see if it works with people.

Lol! They need to make a popup or whatever when someone adds you. I almost didn't see the small flag located on the bottom right hand corner.
yeah it's hard to see, but it is better then last week.
The previous version it wasn't possible to add people or accept people. You had to accept new people on a window pc.
So it will be better, i hope.
This is a great app, been usinbg it for two weeks with wifey on our Touch Pro's
Hey guys.

Nice thread
Good luck
So how can I map it to my ptt button? I installed but it didn't map it. I'm using RSW 1.6 rom. Works fine with onscreen button, but would work much better to ptt button. I can make a link to it, but just need to know the parameters.
Hi,
I'm having this annoying problem with my device, and HTC has no clue how to solve this (they said I should wait for WM6.5, as it might solve this).
The problem is so: I bought this device in London, but live in Israel. Settings are set to my local time (GMT +2), and the time shows correctly. However, after a while (can be a few hours or a few days, not sure what triggers this) the time changes and the local time is shown as London local time. It does that automatically.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
strange... I bought my device in London too, but this doesn't happen. No idea.
This hint is from another thread, have you checked this setting:
Start - Settings - (More, if you are using TouchFLO) - Personal tab - Phone - Timezone - Tick the box to automatically change time.
Changing this might help.
Alternatively, you could move to the UK

It was indeed unchecked, so I will give this a go and post back.
Moving to the UK is indeed a valid solution
Nice that you quoted my solution of the other thread. This might resolve your problem. My provider seems to have a different Timezone then it should be, so it gives me the wrong setting, but maybe it does work for you.
Sadly this didn't help...
It just automatically changed for a different time zone than London... have no idea why.
Activesync
Had some similar problems once where it changed the time and together with that it corrected my appointments.... But I found out that I had to set the timezone on the pc correctly because it happened everytime i synced it.
hope it helps

Yeah, is this the case? It might be because of your PC has a incorrect setting.
The settings are okay, they are the same. It doesn't explain why it always switches back to London - I have no such setting in my desktop pc. I'm betting there's some setting in the device...
This is so weird....

Hmm.. If you want to be really sure, just do not connect it to your PC and charge it using the normal wallet-charger. If it still happens while you never connected it, then you are sure it's a device configuration.....
I bet there is such setting in your desktop PC, you just need to find it (Regional Settings in the Control Panel, but may differ from the Windows version you are using).
Do you have a weather program installed? Maybe that that syncs with the internet or smth?

Yeah, done that - and it still changes automatically.
I don't have any weather program, and I checked my regional and clock settings on my desktop pc, no London anywhere.
I am, however, trying something different. In the device, there's a setting to auto sync with the cellular operator. It was checked, so now I unchecked it. Hopefully this will fix it.
Hi,
You need to open Settings -> System tab -> Clock & Alarms -> Time tab -> Set Visiting timezone to the same as your current time zone.
Hopefully they fix this bug in WM 6.5.
I am travelling across time zones. I have made a couple of observations. If I check the city I am in then the 1st line listed will swap to that city and all will be good on my phone. if my phone time differs from my laptop then the sync process hangs.
Does this make sense or am I dreaming that you should never change the time on the 1st line and you should never select the first line as your time.
I have 100% success in keeping my current time zone accurate (where ever that may be)
What I tried previously failed.
Meiz, I already have that setting...
I had similar bug. There were 2 moscows - and 1 moscow sometimes became Helskinki - and the time changed.
What I did - deleted all world cities (except the default one), then added, say new york, made it as my city, then deleted first one (moscow) and then readded it again and then maid Moscow my default city. No I don't have any timezone problems.

Tried that, but the problem persists.
I suspect my Desktop pc... even though the time doesn't change after syncing (and even an hour after), I have Windows 7 RC, and the time there is in UTC, not GMT like in the device...

yep. W7 can be a problem. I'm using Vista.
Are you using any navigation software? I was using GiniusDrive here in Greece and the timezone in navigation's settings was incorrect so everytime I was using my navigation software it was messing up my timezone! After setting the correct timezone in my navigation software everything runs fine on my TD2!

OMG, you are totally right! I'm using iGo 8, and every time I launch it the time changes!!! You're THE MAN!
Problem is I can't change the time there, only the timezone... when I do that it still doesn't show the correct time.
Also, it keeps reseting itself everytime. I'll try to fiddle with it and post back.
Thanks!!!

In time & date settings in iGo8 you need to untick the option to automatically update the time as per the GPS clock.
