Has anyone been able to get onto AT&T's (Cingular's) Streaming video site with their unlocked TyTN II here in the States?
http://cingularvideo.cingular.com/
It does not detect the phone as a 3D phone, or so it says.
I had no problems getting to the http://device.home/ page though.
I just get a blank, white screen.
doesn't work for me either... Same error. Not a 3G phone.

isn't there a reg hack where you trick the the CV side into thinking you have a Samsung Blackjack, which is a supported device?
This link has a 8525.cab that allows you to get technical difficulties (for me at least, i don't have wireless.cingular.com:80 set as proxy)
http://www.gadgetech.info/treo/hacks/registry/
shogunmarks cab with realplayer could be your huckleberry too

I dont remember the exact change (been a while) but yeah look in the Hermes forum....also you will find MANY threads so look for the newer ones as ATT and WM6 went through stages of what works for this. It is a PIE issue.
Read into the first dozen posts or so:
I don't live in a 3G area so I can't test...

I got it too work, no problem. Below are my instructions.
TyTN II Users
Here are the instructions for access MediaNet and Cingular Video, or just about any at&t/Cingular link just like on the Tilt.
It’s really simple to access MediaNet. Even on at&t branded phones you have to switch from My ISP to MediaNet so you can access the MN home page or Cingular video. Here is how you do it.
Go to START, SETTINGS and select CONNECTIONS.
In the connections, select CONNECTIONS Icon.
At the bottom, select ADVANCED tab.
You will see a SELECT NETWORKS option.
Under Network Management, change the first option for MY ISP to MEDIANET.
Now click ok and reselect TASK (bottom left tab). Now your Connections now say MediaNet with a proxy option below it. We need to verify the proxy info is correct.
Select edit my proxy server, then select Advanced. You will see a window with server/proxy info. The first one is HTTP. It should have the following (wireless.cingular.com:80). If it doesn’t, select HTTP and enter the info. Now check SOCKS. It should have (LOCALHOST:1080). Again, enter it if needed.
Now you’re done. You only had to do this one time. When you done with MediaNet, all you do is switch back to MY ISP for normal surfing.
Before you continue, you have to make a change in your registry so that the proxy knows your phone as a branded phone. I choose the Tilt for this.
If you know how to use a registry editor, then look for this entry on you phone.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Internet Explorer\User Agent]
"CustomBase"="HTC_TyTN_II Mozilla/4.0"
You need to change the CustomBase to HTC-8900/1.2 Mozilla/4.0
This is what is listed for the Tilt
Save your settings and that’s it. By changing that info on my TyTN II, I am now able to access Cingular Video and MediaNet home page. I had to change my connection from My ISP to MediaNet so it would go through the Proxy.
I can now access my account information and a bunch of other areas I wasn't before on my TyTN II.
Cv http://cingularvideo.cingular.com
MN http://device.home
Note: In order to play the videos, you can download a PocketPC version of Real Player since the files are in RM format.
Does your HTTP setting stay?
Whenever I set the http to wireless.cingular.com I can then get to the CV but then after a while the screen says it cannot connect to the internet. I went back to the http setting and learned the http setting to wireless.cingular.com is not there anymore. Looks like it doesn't want to stay there.
I changed my registry to make it think I am using an AT&T Tilt instead of the HTC TyTN II.
Can anyone help?
Got It Working
I only had to do this on my HTC ADVANTAGE...
If you know how to use a registry editor, then look for this entry on you phone.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Internet Explorer\User Agent]
"CustomBase"="HTC_TyTN_II Mozilla/4.0"
You need to change the CustomBase to HTC-8900/1.2 Mozilla/4.0
MEdia Net Proxy info
I believe that the proxy info for the MEdia Net as ISP is hard coded into the ROM as it was for the Hermes.
So all you would really need to do is revise the "model" info for PIE in the registry to what they said earlier.
Do you need to do something to get RealPlayer to stream the video? I'm able to get to the video pages, but when I try to play them, they download instead (wow, there goes all my RAM!)
I did find that this only works in IE, my Opera browser still gives the error page for Cingular Video.
Read what I posted here. http://www.mobileplanet.com/ft.aspx?k=99281
When you select a video to play, it downloads a video.ram file, which contains nothing but a URL. Real Video opens this video.ram file, reads the internet URL, and then plays the video from that URL.
Note: Each time you select a video from the web site, it'll download and overwrite the last video.ram file you downloaded/saved.
Okay, changing the network settings on RP seems to have fixed it.Thanks for the great guide!

Check your e-mail accounts. POP/IMAP accounts allow you to set the connection they will use. If they don't match "Media Net" and go out to check e-mail, you'll get this error because the mail doesn't think the network's available.
There's also a setting in RealPlayer to specify the network that I had to manually change. Once I did all that, I was watching The Colbert Report clips on my phone.
ha im an idiot i was getting the temp difficluties screen but i was connected to wifi took it off and im fine that was dumb but i just tried a video and got failed to connect! lol well ill see if i did somethign else dumb lol
switched the real player settings to mn and were all good
That fix worked for me! I am able to surf/check e-mail while using the MediaNet connection - is there any real need to switch connections all the time? It seems about as fast as my non-proxy connections, but perhaps it isn't.
i can get the list of videos playingm, but when i click on it to watch it, it says " can not connect" real player......how can i change this
any still having problems with real player here u go
Go to ur tmp-file folder (normally "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp\"
u will find quite a lot of folders in there, but if u search (f3) for files ending with *.cab there will pop one file named:
"realplayer.cab" ^^
copy it to ur ppc by using active sync
this worked for me hope for u too
I have tried all of these things and it still tells me the clip is unplayable.

Hi everybody,
I had a problem with my WM6 when I tried to surf via GPRS. The connection went fine but the requested pages would not load. After a lot of posting and research I found out that the pocket IE included in the WM6 rom only opens
url's when they start like this:
wsp://www.google.com
This is a real pain in the a** because when you click a search result in google it'll link ya to an http://... site and the problem starts again!
I live in germany and I use the O2 WAP Flatrate and up until the WM6 rom I had no issue.
Does anybody have a fix for this maybe a registry tweak that tells the pocket IE to behave as in the previous rom's?
I know a few of you out there got the same problem and I hope this thread will help us enjoy this great rom because everything else is just perfect for my needs!
Thank you and I am looking forward to your suggestions!

I can assure you that PIE in WM6 opens http:// addresses too. I haven't tried connecting through GPRS, though. Only WiFi.
Maybe it's a DNS problem?
Hi Risidoro,
which WM6 are you using? I use the PDAVIET3 and I had the same issue with
the PDAVIET1.
DNS sounds good but it worked on the previous roms and I use the same settings as before. Maybe there is some registry entry in the PDAVIET causing
this phenomena!?
Thanks for helping!
im using the Original WM6 rom and im not having 1 problem.. maybe is PDAVIET3 rom.. i have been using PIE on Wifi and GPRS and it always connects
I'm using the BigBrother's rom AKA clean wm6 and i've no problem so far. IE works as always...that is: BAD (but at least it opens http)!
The best browser for WM, the real usable one, is Picsel Browser.
It can't be bought online (picsel only sells it to device manufacturers) but... WM6 couldn't be bought too... if you know what i mean
I do use pdaviet3 and have no problem opening http pages with GPRS in IE.

I think you have bad gprs connection settings, as you wrote you can only open through wsp:// it means you are connecting to WAP service where only connection to internet is through APN (Access Point Name) so you have to use wsp (wireless session protocol). I'm assuming you set up your connections using some cab file, don't you? Go to Settings/Connections/Connections/Manage existing connections and check how many connections you have there if it's only one than it's for shure connection through WAP APN and you have to change it to normal internet connection if there are more than one connections check the proper settings for internet instead 'auto pick' if any of this does't work make your own settings as I can see for German O2 you have to only put APN name 'internet' and nothing else no passwd or login. Hope this info helps you

Hi deviusdragger,
tried your help but to no avail. The PDAVIET 3 really has different settings but changing them and rebooting did not really fix the problem.
The keys you are mentioning are only under HKLM did you also change yours there or do you have them under HKCU as well?
Thanks a lot anyway for your help!

Hi shamus,
thank you for your reply! No I do not use a cab I perform the settings manually. There is more to it than entering a APN, here is all I do and how
it is documented in the depths of the german O2 website
modem: CELLULAR LINE GPRS
APN: wap.viaginterkom.de
USER/PASSWORD/DOMAIN: empty
PROXY: 195.182.114.52
HTTP: 195.182.114.52:8080
WAP: 195.182.114.52:9201
SECURE WAP: 195.182.114.52:9203
SOCKS: empty
Only by entering these informations I am surfing on the O2 wap flatrate and
by entering the proxy like this I can surf to http sites as well!!!
And exactly this feature seems to have been taken from me
Well not really as I can enter wsp://... I am still able to surf but using
google and hitting search results gets really anoying cause for every search result I will have to change the url from http to wsp !!!!
So if somebody out there might really have the antidote for my prob I'd
be most happy and if not I´ll consider switching back to Farias rom as this
WM6 stuff is only for evaluation
Thanks for helping!
Hmmm seems it's good lead. When your connection is through proxy server in this case 195.182.114.52 then you have to have all connection setup in "my work network" disable "My ISP" in connections/advanced/select networks by choosing only "My work network" in both fields then setup Proxy server and setup only HTTP proxy remember 8080 port, left all other protocols empty (wap, socks, secure wap). Try if it works, if not than try to setup WAP proxy to 8080 port also. Since browser connects all the time to wap apn in this way you can trick it. Other unusual possibility is your provider stoped to serve http proxy or changed some settings.

Hi shamus,
tried all of your ideas but still it did not resolve this issue! I always choose "My work network" because the ISP does not let me set up the proxy.
My provider still features this service because if I use any of the normal WM5 roms everything works perfectly!
Thanks for helping!

Hey FREIMAURER....we met in another thread......
I had a similar problem...you may have to flash your factory rom just to get your provider network settings. Flash back to your current rom and then use that cab file to set your device up so that your carrier's settings show up in Connections. At this point you can modify the wap address and your proxy settings. This will get you on the internet.
MMS is another beast!
PDAviet3 does not include MMS....you have to install ArcSoft MMS for it to show up on your device. I recommend you install ArcSoft MMS before you install your carrier's settings cab because your carrier settings include MMS configurations but once they are installed...you can not change them. If your MMS works, you're good. If it doesn't, un-install ArcSoft MMS, re-install ArcSoft MMS and manually input your settings.
Sounds like alot of hard work but it's not that bad.

Been following the guide on how to get Vodaphone Live to work on the HTC branded TytnII.
Done the registry editor changes to it now appears to be an Nokia N95... but every time I try to copy the Browsers.dll file across to the windows directory I get a write permissions error.
Any ideas?

Try using Resco Explorer or Total Commander to copy "browser.dll" to \Windows...
I think the built-in file explorer will give you an error, but those two should allow you to copy it over.

Hiya this is the guide I used:
http://www.modaco.com/Vodafone-Live-Settings-t259142.html
I tried the settings in the thread Wise1 gave but it didn't work. Has anyone got vodafone live to work on the TyTnII?
Use the cab in here...
It uses the same browser.dll and reg settings as mentioned in the guide, but only takes two seconds (and a soft reset).
Oh, and always remember that you have to connect to the internet via the *WAP* settings before you can get on to Vodafone Live! - you'll get an error if you're connected via the "Internet" settings.
Enjoy!
It Worked!!!!
Thanks Sub69 it worked. I had spent hours trying to get Mobile TV.
Just thought I'd add one note though for those people that download the cab and then expend the Internet browser to work.
Once you have installed the cab go to START, Settings, Connections, then click on Connections icon. Click on Advanced and Select Networks. On programs that automatically connect to the Internet, select Contract WAP from the dropdown menu.
Next goto Internet Exployer and type http://live.vodafone.net. It should then work.
p.s. turn off WiFi as this will stop internet streaming on vodafone live
Thank you for this...
This worked perfectly for me, although I had to enter wsp://live.vodafone.com before it loaded the vodafone live! homepage (http:// at the start didn't work).
Amazing isn't it how Vodafone happily sell Windows Mobile devices but don't support them with Vodafone live and Pocket IE!
Personally, I use: http://live.vodafone.co.uk but as long as it all works, that's the main thing!
And yes, you must be connected via the *WAP* settings otherwise you get a "service is not responding at this time" error.
Bit of a pain that - I've tried all sorts of fiddling with the exception list etc. and I just can't get it to switch connection settings automatically when navigating to the Vodafone pages.
app to devellop...
If a dev guys could write a little apps with two big button to switch to :
* Vodafone Live wap
* Defaut internet
it's would be nice if you can setup within the applic 2 network config something like:
Button1(I):
Internet connect with : ....
Work connect wit : ....
Button 2(WAP):
Internet connect with : ....
Work connect wit : ....
and an option to start PIE to another web page ... with button 2...
Still not working...even with the .cab
Thanks guys...I'm another HTC TYTN ii user and I got all excited reading this thinking I'd finally found the fix (I hate Vodafone for selling me the Vodafonelive/MobileTV package and then not supporting me!!). I've loaded the .cab and followed the instructions for the reset. I'm also using WAP to now try and access the vodafone live sites...but no joy!!! :-( The following errors occur on each respective 'potential' Vodafone live page.
http://live.vodafone.co.uk - Gives me the error message: Bad Gateway - The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. Additionally, a 502 Bad gateway error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
http://live.vodafone.com - This must timeout in some other way because I get an IE initiated message saying The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later.
http://live.vodafone.net again an IE initiated message saying The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again.
wsp://live.vodafone.net again an IE initiated message saying The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again.
wsp://live.vodafone.com This must timeout in some other way because I get an IE initiated message saying The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. check the connection and try again later.
wsp://live.vodafone.co.uk
Can someone please advise if I need to do anything else...or can you think of anything else that I can try???
By the way...I do at least get the EXCEPTIONS working out in Connections...By inputting the above sites into EXCEPTIONS, they do connect over WAP rather than IS(3G).
Pleeeeeease help! Cheers.
The cause is just your tricks to use exception...! Don't try to use it, even if it connect right...do a manual connect you will see the difference
I got those sorts of error messages when I was trying to work out how to use the exception list too. Very long "loading" times, followed by IE timeout errors.
Should work fine if you set your connections so that the "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet" are using the "Contract WAP" settings...
Same here?!

Same here?! Kaiser (Vario III) with Dutty´s Kaiser Final 2 (TouchFlo). Running fine.
What happened:
Try to establish internet connection. "wap.vodafone.de" (without Proxy)
- Vodafone Mail works fine (POP)
- IE (only http://www.vodafone.de) works fine
- Every other page (also wsp://live.vodafone.de) The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again.
Add Proxy 139.007.029.001 like it is written in some "Threads":
- Vodafone Mail --> did not work any longer. Sync error (Could not establish connection)
- No IE connection is possible.
Any idea?
Thanks. Bye.
Reversing the Vodafone cab file
Hi Sub69
I have been able to use Vodafone Live TV fine on my TyTn II for sometime but recently I wanted to look on a site that won't work as it said that my phone had been detected as a Symbian S60 unit and wanted me to download a .sis file which obviously won't work on the TyTn II. Have you got a cab file that does the reverse of the vodafone Live cab file and reverts the TyTn back to a WM6 device as far as some programs are concerned. I will then be able to toggle between the 2 as and when I need to.
Thanks
I flashed the HTC rom on my tilt a few days ago. Everything seems to work fine except that when I open a webpage (using Pocket IE), the 3G icon on the top changes to H. (What is H anyways?)
Other apps that require(?) 3G like Streaming media player and Messaging cannot connect at all. They try to connect to 3G, cycle thru the connection attempt twice and give up. But they work fine if I'm on wifi.
Are there any settings that I'm supposed to put in the Tilt?
I've tried searching on the forums but have been unsuccessful so far. If anyone can help me that would be awesome. Or point out keywords that I should use to search the forum, that would be great too.
Thanks.
Go to 'Settings' 'Connections' 'HSDPA' and uncheck the box.
BTW its High Speed Downlink Packet Access and you may need to subscribe from your carrier network for connection.
Thanks for the lightening fast reply. It got rid of the H icon. But streaming media still doesnt work.
When trying to open a youtube video, for example, it tries to connect to something, but fails eventually. I'll post some screenshots soon.
Do I need to change any settings in windows media player?
What branded phone were you using because you may have removed vital streaming SW required by your carrier.
AT&T Tilt aka Kaiser
I flashed it with the HTC rom from this forum.
Have a look at your programs and see if Flash Player is installed. If not, search the Forum for the cab (its in Dutty's thread in this forum flashlite) and install it. That may solve your problem.
The flash player is installed. As I can view the same streams if I use wifi.
But if I disable wifi, then the webpages open up, but no streaming media opens up.
Also, using Messaging, hotmail is able to download my mails on 3G, but not other accounts (ex. gmail IMAP). But everything works on wifi.
Sorry to be a pain in the ass, but I'm willing to search the forums if someone can point out the keywords to look for. I'm really clueless at this point.
Then look for the AT&T operator settings needed after flashing. If all is working on WiFi then that is definately your problem.
Thanks. I know its a problem on my end. But I don't know where to look for settings. I'm very new to this windows mobile world.
I'll search the forum now for AT&T settings and will get back.
Thanks a lot again for your help!
Damn... not sure where the info is. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
Here, try this.

Better still, found you this.

You owe me a beer next time you are in Abu Dhabi.
I just tried the AT&T instructions and it screwed my IE connection. Every page load gave me an error. I reverted back to the original settings.
As for streaming videos, I managed to change the settings to use Media Net and it seems to work.
Still cant figure out how to do that with Messaging.
p.s.... trying the cab you just posted.
Okay, I tried that cab, and it still doesn't let me use any other email account in messaging. Here are the screen shots.
As you can see from the images, Windows Live (hotmail) email downloads just fine. But when I change the email to Gmail from the dropdown, and press Send/Receive, it fails to connect. What are the differences in the connections between the two.
By the way, sorry for the 90 degrees rotated images. It didn't let me upload images with heights more than 280. Weird
p.s. Farsquidge, I still owe you a beer

Thanks for the lightening fast reply. It got rid of the H icon. But streaming media still doesnt work.
When trying to open a youtube video, for example, it tries to connect to something, but fails eventually. I'll post some screenshots soon.
Do I need to change any settings in windows media player?

Wait, explain why you want to get rid of the "H"? H is HSDPA, which is the fastest 3G connection.
G = GPRS (slow)
E = Edge (faster than GPRS, but stil slow)
3G = UMTS (3G, fast)
H = HSDPA (3G+, fastest connection)
Assuming you have HSDPA in your region (which if it showed H means you do), you would normally want HSDPA. It provides speeds greater than 1Mbit/sec.
I've enabled it back. Thanks for the clarification.
Try using the Network settings wizard then do a soft reset to apply them.
Go through the AT&T settings page on the link to see they match and adjust them accordingly if not.
Then you will most likey have to go to the other setup pages on AT&T's site for email and MMS setup as you have lost all with the flash.
I tried the Network settings wizard. Didn't change anything.
Tried the AT&T settings page. It screwed up even more and I couldnt even browse web pages. So I reverted back to original settings.
I've managed to fix the streaming media player by making it use Media Net. As for Messaging, I'll have to look into AT&Ts setting for MMS. Will keep you guys posted.
p.s. You guys are amazing. Thanks for all the help!
If you look, a new version of Network settings wizard has been posted to this forum today.
Aah.. thanks, I found it. I'll try that in the evening when I get home and let you know.
I need access to a direct ftp port with the http://65988.0023.XXX style connection but I can't get access to it unless I am using WIFI? what setting can I change to stop this?
try disabling the proxy settings, sometimes bypassing your networks proxy settings will open up all sorts of options you where once blocked from accessing
how would I go about that? I didn't know I was behind proxy settings? And do I need them to access medianet?
in your connection settings go to manage existing connection, select proxy settings and untick the box that says this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet and leave the box ticked that says this network connects tothe internet.
Ive disables my proxy settings for t-mobile Uk internet settings and now it connects alot faster and pages seem to be loading faster also
doesn't work... Darn this sux... I test it with www.msn.com and it still makes it pull up msn.mobile... how annyoing...
bump anyone have anything on this?
I would really appreciate help with this because I have to access a program that I can't otherwise.
If you're looking to hit an FTP site, then I'd grab an FTP client for WM and stop futzing with IE in the first place. Or am I misunderstanding what you're doing?
not it is not an ftp it is an http://112.2232.224:2324 type of site... that is all.
Don't know your carrier but here's a cab that disables the "hidden" proxy in AT&T and one that restores it. Worth a try?

YEAAAAAAAAAAA I don't know what happened... but since I installed your thing it works perfect. damn I was getting peaved... when I go to msn.com thought it still brings up msn.mobile though. Well at least I can go to anywebsite I want now.
Do I ever need to put the proxies back? I guess I should just put this on my card just in case.
Again, Thanks... What else am I able to do now?
In the Tilt, Internet Explorer's user agent string is locked to mobile internet, meaning that websites will see your device as a mobile device. If the site has a mobile site, it will automatically re-direct you to that. In WM5 devices, you could use software to change IE's user agent string to make it look like a desktop, but on the Tilt, you can't.
You'll need to get Opera Mobile if you want the internet to see your phone as a desktop.
I think for what your trying to do you need to use the MY ISP settings instead of medianet settings. But I don't know what they are anymore. I think you will also need the right data plan to use them.
does PIEPlus User Agent setting work with Tilt?

Is this true even if using PIEPlus? PIEPlus Tools>Options Plus>User Agent allows setting User Agent to IE 5.5 or IE 6.0 (which should be seen by websites as a regular computer) in addition to the default PIE setting (which is seen as mobile)

what is pie plus. First off, I tried using opera mobile desktop setting and when I went to www.msn.com it still comes up as mobile. Do I have to configure something further?
Lastly, I just told you all that the program for turning off the hidden proxies worked. So for what I was trying to do those programs the other person posted worked nicely. However, it still sucks that I can't bypass the mobile crap... There is a program called deepfish from microsoft that addresses the issue exactly, however the jerks won't let the beta out any further. I am gonna aaddress that issue in another post.
I believe the problem is something in the WM6 or the Tilt itself because Opera doesn't work either.
Boy I'm glad you guys worked on this. I upgraded to Tilt yesterday and was cracking my head against the wall trying to figure out why the HTTP addresses wouldn't resolve with the same settings I've been using in my 8525. @#$%#@ Hidden Proxy! lol
Cheers and Happy New Year!

Hello guys n gals,
I have been searching for an answer to this (google, many times)
I cannot get my ATT Tilit w/6.1 to act as an internet connection for my Laptop.
I disable Activesync, go into the Wmodem program, tell it to start, and my computer sees it as a Palm Treo Modem I have to dial out on. According to the program description, I should be able to use the Phone to just "share" its connection. Is this an issue with 6.1? Is there someting I have to enable that wonderful ATT does not allow me to use?
I thank you all in advance for your help. Like I said i have googled a few times and nothing comes up that helps me. They all point to a program called Internet Sharing, which i dont seem to have on my tilt. I suspect this is done intentionally by ATT but hey, I gotta ask first. Help????????
Google is indeed my friend!!! LMAO!! its 4 am here in NYC and I finally found it. Now forget everything I said above!! I just have to figure out how to pin it to my programs menu or start menu! for that i am asking for your help. I am too tired to do anyore googling tonight, err, today, or whatever it is now.

It's there. The file you are looking for is entitled "intshrui.exe". It is located in the \Windows\ directory of your device. You may need to enable "view all files" for it to be visible. Once it is visible, tap and hold on it. Select copy, and then browse to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and tap and hold a blank space. Select "Paste Shortcut". After the shortcut is created, tap and hold on it, and rename it to "Internet Connection Sharing", or whatever you so desire. This is the application you will be using to enable ICS between your desktop computer, and telephone. Be sure to use wap.medianet as the access point. isp.cingular will not work if you are only on a Media Net plan. (if you have a dedicated tethering plan, it is fine to use isp.cingular if you so desire).
I don't have the ATT stock ROM on my phone any longer, but in the WModem application, there is a options menu. There is a item labeled "Configure" IIRC. Select this option, and uncheck, "Choose an access point automatically". Change isp.cingular to read wap.cingular, and save it. Restart your device. You should now be able to use your PDA as an internet gateway. Be sure you have installed either ActiveSync or WMDC on your computer. And the awnser to your inquiry regarding ATT doint it on purpose is "Yes". The phone is fully capable of tethering, but ATT wants to charge you $60/mo for the ability to use technology that already exists in your phone.
Other files of interest:
HSDPASwitch.exe
FieldTest.exe
CSDType.exe
Yep, At&t doesn't add the shorcut to ICS on their roms, its in the windows folder.
Also a not of caution, its suggested that you remove the proxy from medianet while you tether. There's stories of people getting caught tethering without the tethering plan and ending up being charged per kb on their bill (leading to a phone bill around and above $1000!).
I always make sure i've disabled the proxy, actually only time its on is to use cellular video, and I've been tethering without the tethering plan for as along as i can remember and never been charged per kb on my bill.
To disable the proxy look for a cab named removehiddenproxy and then go to start settings, connections tab on the bottom, then connections icon. advanced tab on bottom, select networks, tap edit under the first drop down box (MEdia Net should be selected) then proxy settings tab on bottom, and uncheck the second box "This network uses a proxy server to cnnect to the Internet"
