Dopod 595 keypad double click - HTC Breeze

I saw this entry at the Breeze wiki section...
I know 4 rather devices that have keyboard problems (this is approx. 30% MTeoR's I know).
First time it's OK, then "*" click begins work as double click (i.e. "**")
Later "4" button bugs to, then "1" and left softkey
"0" button may works with double clicks too.
Other buttons work fine on this devices
This is warranty case, but you can solve this problem yourself. You'll need to rub keyboard contacts with the alcohol.

I am having this problem with a Dopod 595. The right side of the keypad (esp. the right softkey) seems prone to taking double inputs when I press the key only once. This is very irritating when using menus and typing SMS.
If you have solved this problem or wrote the above entry, can you help me understand what is meant by "You'll need to rub keyboard contacts with the alcohol." ?
Does this mean I just rub the rubber key with alcohol, or do I have to find way to strip open my phone and reach the actual contacts?
Please help!
Thanks in advance.

Hi, this means you have to open the phone first, than you clean the contact sections on the circuit board and the keypad from below.
Cheers

Thumb-friendly keyboard (PocketCM alternative)?

PocketCM is good, but I'm looking for something better. Even though PocketCM doesn't require a stylus, I'm still having a horrible time typing with it.
What I'm looking for is a thumb-friendly, on-screen keyboard that'll take advantage of predictive text to allow larger buttons. Something like the Blackberry Pearl keyboard (1 or 2 letters per key), or even the traditional phone pad (with 3-4 letter per key) would be enough.
Anyone have a suggestion?
cootek touchpal is the best i've tried.

Thanks! Searching now.
Here's the link to Cootek Touchpal, its the best http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334437
Did you spell it right? A search revealed nothing...
**EDIT
Got link, thanks!
Thanks for the recommendation! It works great!
Three questions:
1) Is this free until December, when I'll have to register it?
2) Is there any way to move the space button to the center (and why is it on the left in the first place?)
3) What is "precise" mode supposed to do?

hold down the spacebar and drag to the middle and it'll move
precise mode appears to take away predictive text so you have to rely on finger slides to get the right characters.

Thanks for the tip. I tried precise mode after I posted an it was horrendous.
I'm still getting used to the program. There are a few things I don't like about it:
1) It takes up a lot of screen space. I would like to see a smaller key option
2) It doesn't always remove itself from the screen when you leave a text area
3) There is no way to spell words efficiently, for example:
I wanted to type "download". I enter "down", but as soon as I hit the "L" button, the letters "down" change to something else. You have to accept "down" as the word, backspace over the space that is automatically entered, then finish the word. PITA.
It's not for one thumb but Spb Full Screen keyboard is the best I've used. I actully don't use the Kaiser keyboard and type 3 times faster with Spb. Also try Tengo its a one thumb kb with big keys.
Touchpal is nice ive used it before.. Im still waiting for PocketCM to release a newer versions as i had some issues with the current version..
As for another one, I flashed my Tilt to the AKU cooked rom thats floating around the forums and there is actually a SIP that is a phone pad that supports T9 input and I find it very handy and works well for one handed operations!
Touchpal is the best in my opinion. Once you get the feel of it you can really type fast.
Yes a slight reduction in hight would be good. I suggest if they half the height of the top row which contains the various options we could benefit with some more screen real estate.
try to go to the htc asia website and download the official phone pad from HTC! I really find it useful!!

yeah it is a slight learning curve, but once you get used to it it'll be the best sip out the there! I got the same thing when trying to spell download, but after spelling out by using the sliding function, it showed up everytime when using the predictive mode! it just takes a little getting used to!
Well, now that I've been using it for a while, I have several big problems. I don't know who to blame (M$ or Cootek), but here they are:
1) The program will only work if I use it in conjunction with sipchange. Once I do that, I cannot select any other keyboard. They come up in the choice list, but if I select them, nothing happens. So I'm stuck with it. If I'm using the stylus, I prefer the standard windows keyboard, which is why this is an issue
2) The program does not go down and stay down. Unlike the standard windows keyboard, TouchPal is always popping up in your face. It drives me nuts, as I only seem to actually need it 1/4 of the time it decides to pop up. It seems to take 2-3 times minimizing it for it to finally stay down... and when it does, it can pop up again for absolutely no reason.
3) It may be the most the most intuitive keyboard, but it's still not very "finger-friendly". I don't consider myself to have unusually large hands, but I still cannot reliably hit the right key every time, even when I'm careful. Another thing it will do is detect a capital letter (diagonal motion) when I very clearly touched it without a swipe. Not sure why this is...
I'm still in search of something better....

Accidentally pressing keyboard shortcut to SEND SMS

I don't know if anyone can help me with this, or has experienced the same problem, but .... when typing SMSs on the keyboard I frequently mistype and somehow send the message before I have finished typing it. But have no idea how, I have tried pressing every key to replicate but without success, seems like I must be pressing a mysterious key combination which is a Send short cut but can find no documentation of this. Can Anyone help and is there a list of keyboard short cuts anywhere?
Thought that I had found the answer to my own post - in the phone manual. You canbring up a list of keyboard shortcuts by opening up a message programme, eg SMS, MMS or email, then in message list press and hold H key. On list is S - Send, but if I try this in open message just get SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS repeated across doc. Any help anyone. Nearly there but not quite!
you're accidentally pressing the left softkey on the keyboard
You are pressing the softkey by accident on the keyboard. Its very annoying, and I dont know of any solution at present.
Surur
Same problem here. Happens alot.
Yeah, the only way is to completely disable the soft keys, but you have to completely disable them, as in on every screen & including the two on the front of the device. Not very practical.
Same thing w/me, i just learned to be more careful when typing the letter T cause thats when i always hit it.

Bingo "t" or "r" Stupid Large Fingers.
This was happening to me but sorted it by using a little app called AE Button Plus
It doesn't stop you catching the button but you can change the soft keys so that they need to be double pressed to activate. You can also change them to a long press or 3 presses but i found a double press was good for me.
The downside is that it affects the soft keys on the front of the phone too as essentially to the phone they're the same button. That trade off is well worth it for me though, was bloody annoying sending blank txts every 5mins!

Yeah, happens too often. I sent reply email today that said "It"
Thanks to all replies, guess that's what I must be doing - bloody annoying. I already have AEButton Plus so if I can't be more careful with the fat fingers I may try that solution.

Is there a trick for finger flicking ?

Many times when I want to scroll through a list of items by finger flicking (which the Diamond uses so much), the touch screen mistakenly recognizes that I want to enter one of the items that my finger touched while trying to flick.
Is there a trick to avoid this problem ?
I wish there was a way to let the device recognize when I want to flick, and when I want to enter an item.

use your whole thumb drag the command longer
and if u are at sms or email.. and the item happens to be the last mail or sms and u still try to pull up newer mails which does not exist, the system register it as an "enter" command
Thanks man.
Change the pressure threshold with registry editor to 1, i think default is 45 that helps A lot.

Or just re-align screen but now by really softly pushing it, just keep pushing harder until cross moves. Works perfect!

Messages name auto complete

Ok, so when I used to start typeing a contacts name in the 'to' field of message, it would give me a list of names or numbers after putting in a few letters or numbers. Now I have to put in a couple letters/numbers and then go to check name. Anyone have any idea how i turned this off.

try this:
u want to send sms to Johny, start typing to the name field "Jo" and then push the space bar on your keyboard, an option of the possible names should pop up at the bottom.

ok, now I feel a bit retarded, don't remember doing that before, but guess it was. Thanks.
Have loaded any new touch keyboards to your device. For me, that feature will stop working after I add any new keyboards. It will come back for a bit after a soft reset, but then it goes away again. Once I remove the offending keyboard, then it works again... I wish I could have both.
I have a similar problem if I use large title bar. When its loaded, the roller wheel on the side no longer controls call volume... Again, wish I had both!

You should't have to enter a space to get the options. It should appear as your typing.
As mentioned above if you installed a keyboard from another device, such as the Touch or Diamond, with T9/XT9 you will lose this auto complete and word suddgestion. There is a disable XT9 cab witch will give you the auto complete and word suddgestion back, but cause the non defult keyboards to enter number only, no letters. it that is the case you have to decide witch is more important to you.
Did you install another keyboard? or did it just stop working as it had?
I will agree that the Installation of Customer SIPs like PCMKeyboard or something else will interfere with this..

Correct, but I was just replying to him saying:

because he shouldn't feel stupid, because he did't have to do it previously.

Unfortunately hit "send"

Hallo
I'm tired of all the the time hitting "send" by mistake when I'm typing a sms.
Does there exist a tweak so you need to hold the send bottom in for a while for it to send? So you can't press it quick..
The right notice
I have suffered from this when using extra thingie to enter (exotic) estonian letters like äüöõšž and if the device slows down a bit there (it happened just few times) then I notice that I unfortunately have pressed Send because the softbutton just had another function

Turn off TF3D! ;O)
Better solution:
FingerKeyboard 2.1 (search in Forum)
1. You get a better keyboard.
2. If you want, the keyboard covers the windows bar including the button "Send". You have to tap the keyboard away to push "Send". Works like a charm.

Don't use the 3DFO message. Simple as that.
I never use that, just the built in outlook to send text messages.
In fact I disabled the 3Dflo plugin in today and I'm using right now the standard today with all the plugins that I want.
